I'm confused by cholesterol results as well, but I know the LDL is the bad cholesterol and the HDL is "good" -- triglycerides should not be high either...and then there's a ratio...I found this link to help interpret results:

Cholesterol - a Primer

Unless your tris are high and your HDL is low, high LDL is not a concern. Total cholesterol is meaningless. What are your tris and HDL?

BTW - up until a few years ago "normal" total cholesterol was up to 240. Also, did you know that there is a strong correlation of low total cholesterol (under 170) and cancer, stroke, depression, and suicide? Also, if you're female, total all cause mortality in elderly (over 65) women was the lowest with a total cholesterol figure of 250ish in one study?

People freak when I tell them that my cholesterol is too low (total 203) Yeah, I do it just to see the look on their faces, I'm mean like that

From what I've read recently average adult total cholesterol level is like 216 so how can the normal level be 200?

If you are eating low carb then you trigs are probably very low meaning your HDL would be close to 60 which is good. I would not be concerned and for sure stay away from statins.

Cholesterol is dependent largely on genetics 220ish could your natural level don't sweat it. My cholesterol stays around 160-170 which statistically gives me higher chances for stroke and cancer, nothing good about low cholesterol levels.

Chasintrail is right. If your triglycerides are low, and your HDL is high, then your LDL is basically useless. LDL actually has TWO PARTS:

Large, buoyant LDL is actually a benign substance that can be relatively harmless for your body, and doesn't increase your risk of developing heart disease (in most people).

Small, dense LDL can actually squeeze through the lining of your arteries and oxidize, thus increasing your risk of heart disease/attack.

So, if you have high LDL, which part do you have? How can you tell? If you have high levels of the first pattern, and have low triglycerides and high HDL, you are basically safe. If you have more small, dense lipoproteins, and your triglycerides are high, then you are more at risk.

Discuss this with your doctor. Also, try to find articles about this to relate to your own health.

Good health!
