Recent blood results (low-carb works!)
Before low-carb - total cholesterol: 195
2 months after my re-start: Total - 299 HDL - Between 30 and 35 LDL - Don't remember exactly, but over 200 Last week: Total - 165 HDL - 61 LDL - 95 I am only disappointed that I got the results on voice mail and not in a live conversation. The nurse who called me initially told me to start a low-fat, very low-cholesterol diet, despite my protests. This time she praised me for doing that very thing, when I haven't. I'm eating just as much fat and cholesterol as I was in September - and I don't exercise (though I get plenty of low-intensity activity through my job; I'm on my feet 10 hours a day) due to an injury last year that makes strenuous exercise very difficult. Also, I still smoke cigarettes, which I shouldn't but that's for another day. I'm wondering if the September results might have been partly due to a lab error, but then again, an initial worsening before improvement is fairly normal. The only change to my diet I made is that I take a capsule of fish oil twice a day. |
