Scared to eat...?
Im not "scared" per say - lol.
Im new to the Atkins eating, and i have high BP. I'm 24 and weighed 240 - i have PCOS and im having issues with it. Dr said to try atkins so ill lower my pregnancy risks, etc when i do decide to have a baby. Again, i have high BP and DID have high cholesterol but got it down - is eating the atkins way going to cause problems?? Im past my induction, but am still eating low carb - 10-20 or so a day i guess. Im eating a lot of ground beef, chicken, fish, broccoli and green beans. Tonight - i had a cheeseburger - no bun, with ketchup and mayo, with brocolli and cheese and a pickle. (dill - not sweet) ill eat cottage cheese, cream cheese, celery, cucumber, cheese cubes, slight ketchup, and at the end of my 20 days (a goal i had set) i put in a few low carb / sugar free candies. ive also been eating two crackers (total of 11 net carbs) i dip that in spinach dip (mccormick seasoning packet and one cup of sour cream) before i started this i only bought 2% cheeses, sour cream, and low fat things. Im not used to eating full fat, and wondering if this is going to raise my cholesterol or give me heart problems. any help would be grateful.

There are a lot of great vids on the cholesterol myth on youtube also. Basically what cholesterol does is it helps to naturally heal damaged arteries by closing up the tears. It does other things as well like helps with brain function and the transportation of certain nutrients. What I have found strange in nature is that a lot of things are lumped together as if nature is smart to know where to put things in certain foods. Eggs for example have a lot of healthy benefits that sustain life! Strangely enough, it's an egg so that makes sense right. It's got protein, it's got iodine to help with normal thyroid functioning, it's got choline to help with brain functioning, it's got other things. Overall you have to remember that certain foods have chemicals and benefits that science has yet to uncover. Vitamins and nutrients! Lots of creatures on this earth eat eggs.
I also suffer from high blood pressure. Some things I've incorporated are apple cider vinegar after reading that it has dramatically reduced people's blood pressure. It also curbs my appetite. In the past I have ocassionally eaten raw garlic cloves. I take around 5 and chop them up with a knife, then put them in my mouth and chew them up enough to swallow them, and then down them with water. Garlic dramatically improves my blood pressure, it's my strongest defense against it right now. I don't take medication. I noticed that coffee makes my blood pressure worse. In the past when I drank coffee with friends at night, I'd come home and would eat garlic to balance it out or I'd have trouble sleeping. The garlic provides amazing relief. Other things things that help with blood pressure or blood flow are drinking water and getting oxygen. Breathing exercises help. You can lay down and take deep breathes and you'll feel your blood pressure and circulation improve. I've recently added cayenne supplements because it gets my blood flowing really well when I eat spicy foods, so added in cayenne supplements. I recommend reading as much as you can on pros and cons people have had with different things... Last edited by lowcarbman; 11-12-2009 at 01:07 PM.. |
