Anyone elses stomach bothered by coated 81mg aspirin?
I have started taking coated 81mg aspirin per my doctor's advice and I find it upsets my stomach. i.g. a little burning in the stomach. Am I the only one?
I really thought that the coating took that away. |

Rich: Aspirin is a killer for peeps with tender tummies. It can cause ulcers and has for many people.
Now, do you take your aspirin with alot of food? That might help...When the coating dissolves in your tummy, there is the aspirin...ouchie. |

My doc recommended taking a half glass of warm water before the aspirin and then the rest of the warm water with it. It helps it dissolve quickly, less time to irritate the stomach lining.

Do you take enteric coated or non coated? I think that the uncoated would break up quicker. |

When I had to take anti-inflammatory meds (which irritate the stomach), it was always with food to combat the irritation. But my pharmacist suggested a better solution (since I try to restrict food intake). He told me to chew 2-3 TUMS tablets before taking the meds. They will coat and protect the stomach. You may want to try that with your aspirin, since obviously you are sensitive.

I take the enteric coated but the warm water works on it too, just not as rapidly. I have a host of problems with aspirin, the stomach thing is the least of them. I have had no luck in finding any info re: a reaction I have had to ASA for years. No matter what form it's in, whether plain or with other substances like in Excedrin, when I take ASA my left arm pit starts to hurt, and actually gets warm and the nodes swell up a bit. It takes a few days to go away. With the lower dose, it's less of an effect, but if I raise the dose or take it enough days in a row, there goes my armpit. It also extends to the outside of my breast tissue. Google has NOTHING on it. The doc isn't sure and not even a pharmacist had a clue. They tell me that ASA is prescribed for armpit and breast pain, NOT be a cause of it.
