Any natural alternatives to statin drugs?

I'm worried about the side affects and would like to try some natural proven remedies. Thanks!

CoQ10, get some! Statins are not good for you, and deplete your body's CoQ10 which protects the heart!

My husband refused the drugs too but takes Niaspan (Niacin). He has done well with it and it has helped a lot.

are there any side effects with the CO2 or the Niacin? I'm also wondering about interactions with blood pressure medicine.

CoQ10 is NOT CO2! And it is safe. I take an OTC slow-release Niacin and CoQ10 both as well as meds for hypertension; been doing that for years and have had no side effects--or inter-reactions--at all. The niacin and the C0Q10 are not expensive and are easy to find. they are worth a try and I hope you will find them or something else helpful. good luck.

PS--I would do almost anything to avoid statins.

Try this. It is so simple....

Eat your last meal 4 plus hours before bedtime. Get at least 7.5 hours of uninterrupted sleep. 8 to 8.5 is even better. Always eat some kind of high protein breakfast.

The sleep is very critical in this. If you just can't sleep that long seek a doctor.

A friend of mine at work took this advice and on his follow-up lowered his overall by 35 points without dieting or exercising. He did that in 4 weeks.

I also use a low cost Metamucil substitute from Wal-Mart--(Equate" brand) exactly the same ingredients (psyllium seeds/husks) and much less in cost than Metamucil. I use the grey unflavored stuff and it is icky, but I knock it back as quickly as I can mixed just in cold water, sometimes chase it with 3-4 frozen blueberries (For many reasons, I dont take either the orange flavored with sugar or orange flavored stuff with aspartame)

Many experts claim this is the kind of fiber which helps keep your total cholesterol down and your arteries a bit more free from plaque. (It's one of the natural things I added to get my total cholesterol down and it helped) If you start out slowly with it, adding it gradually, it will not cause gas or other undesirable gut activity.

Red Yeast Rice IS a statin. I wouldn't touch it.

There is a lot of research proving that high cholesterol is not bad for you. It has never been proven in any study to cause high risk of heart disease particularly in women.

Before you go trying to lower your cholesterol, please do some reading about it:

I agree about the high total cholesterol. Mine is 229 and my PCP and cardiologist think it is fine because my LDL/HDL ratios are very good and so are trigs. And if I listened to the "so-called experts," I'd have been gobbling statins for years.
