Calcium I have heard about. Cant take that.....

But Vitamin D?????? I have not heard of any bad things about it????

So the Krill is omega 3 replacement, right?

I'm not sure that Mega Red wants to be increased that much - or at all. I was talking about Omega 3 in general. The highest dosage of a Mega red I see is 500 mgs. Maybe 2x the 300?s then. You might get a stomach upset with too high a dose. So as I have never taken krill oil (but have considered it!) I can only really go off what I've been told and read for 'regular' fish based Omega 3. I went back and reread what I had said before and I can see that was a badly written sentence about the Mega Red. I was told and read also that 1000 - 1200 mgs of fish oils are the goal for a day. Maybe krill is more potent? I can't say. So, I'd add in some Omega 3 with other sources then.

I would add Chia seeds to your day, unless you have IBS. I put them in/on a lot of stuff. Oatmeal, hot/cold cereal, meatloaf, shakes, etc on and on and on. They are neat, as they swell 12% after 30 minutes. Kinda like tapioca really. Mostly I take some almond milk and put in chia seeds, hemp seeds, hemp oil and stevia. sometimes wheat germ. I add turmeric now and then if fighting arthritis pain in my knee. I use this recipe for Golden Milk

On the Vit D part for postmenopausal women, I've heard it on the news a few times but can only find one or two articles when I look... so lately I've been drinking more almond milk (has more calcium then regular milk) plus getting kale and spinach (the usual.) Getting some sun on my back and legs too these days.

I took that many Krill at once to get that kick start. I couldn't afford to buy that amount for daily consumption. But yes it is suppose to be so good for us because it is so tiny. Unlike fish. Tiny tiny and whales live of of the Krill. Which is gona cause some hungry whale, if the catch we make is not closely monitored. :-(

I drink Almond milk. It is GREAT!

Dr. Weil.....I have heard of him...Going to check it out....I have heard about the chia seeds. My son and I have talked about it. I have always feared the carbs and never stopped long enough to count them. Going to do it now. :-)

I take Mega Red Krill Oil, 300 mg, once per day, and in 6 months it raised my HDL from 50 to 67 (+17), giving me a TG/HDL ratio of 1.76, which is in the "good" range. I'm due for my next blood work next month, which will be 6 months again. The phospholipid structure of the EPA & DHA in krill oil makes it more efficient so you don't have to take as much. And there is no fishy burping!

Morning'! I picked up the Mega Red. CVS has a sale of buy one get one free... so I did. We'll take one 300 and then a regular fish oil of 1200. Should be good to go with that and the other handful of stuff we take. Never seems to be enough time in the day to take all the supplements that I lay out for myself each day. I take them one at a time through out the day and Hubs can take four or five at a time and it never bothers him - I feel like if I try that.

How's it at your end of the woods?

Oh, wanted to say that Chia has enormous fiber - so the after subtracting for that, the carbs are super low. I think CVS has Chia too. But the price is high $16.?? for an lb. I like a price of around $6.00 - $10 for a pound. Black or white chia is the same - just looks a different color. Try for organic if you can which may cost a bit more - of course.

Okay, I'll look into Krill Oil more and maybe get some of that to go along with my other supplements.

About Chia... The most I've ever done is put seeds on those silly planters. I read the article a few posts ago and I'm wondering if chia helps cholesterol? Off to do some research, but thought I'd ask.

Hi capricapers and JanCA

I made that cake in a mug last night and put one serving Flax, ground, in it. Words cant describe how different it was. But taste buds can be retrained. I have never been one to discard something just because it is different.
I will be getting some Chia seeds!
Subin the fiber makes it worth a few carbs. I need all the fiber and nutrition I can get at 61.............

Mama got my youngest son that Chia pet many years ago. Didn't know I should have fed them to him instead of watching the pet grow hair

Four months ago my cholesterol was thus.. the part in parenthesis are ref points. Doc said my "fats", which I assume he meant trig was a little high, but the rest was fine. (BTW my HDL has been as high as 93..doc said he'd never seen it that high.

Total - 211 (<200)
HDL - 63 (> 46)
LDL - 110 (<130)
Trig - 189 (<150)
Ratio 3.3

These were done months before I started LC. I'd like to keep these... minus a bit of trig which is the reason I'm so concerned with this new way of eating. It scares me. I've read dozens of pages saying all this fat is fine. Are eggs every day going to do me in? This is why I ask about chia and other things..I want to do the things that naturally lower cholesterol to keep it balanced. You know?

To me your numbers look great! On LC your Trigs should go down some more.
It is my understanding Trigs are high because of sugar consumption. Mine were over 800 several years ago.
Jan I have had my share of scary thoughts about low carb. LC includes so many great reasons to stay LC the list is as long as CA. state. :-)
YES your HDL is super GREAT! (((((hugs)))))

And I'm glad to hear your stats have improved on LC. It takes awhile for the 59 years of brainwashing to clear.

The good news is that your LDL looks WAY BETTER! Have you had a VAP test to see if your LDL is the large fluffy kind? You want large fluffy LDL - not a big deal if #s are high if that type A.

Off the top of my head I would say put unrefined coconut oil into your diet if you are not already - start slowly and work up to three to four TBLS a day. Put Omega 3 into your diet if not already. Mega Red Krill oil, salmon oil, fish oil that type thing along with chia seeds - two TBLSP a day.

Cut carbs drastically - that will bring the tri numbers down - did for me. Stay away from fried foods - those transfats and hydrogenated oils will kill us all yet if we are not on our toes.

Research on this forum and other places - how to raise HDL and lower LDL and trigs. An LC WOE brought my lipids into amazing new healthy places!!!

Gotta do 20 minutes of exercise a day that gets the heart going - there's just no way around it.

You can do this! Talk with your DR to see what he/she says.

Some folks take Red Rice Yeast (to combat high cholesterol) - but it is reported to have some of the same effects as prescribed station - do your research first.

Firstly I would say to scroll back and watch the video below entitled 'The Oiling of America.' It's two hours long - but worth every minute!!

Exclamation Warning: Stay away from Stevia in the Raw

Grrr, I'm so mad! I just discovered (after buying 2 boxes) that Stevia in the Raw contains dextrose, which is a form of sugar!! I was careless and didn't read the label because I figured stevia was stevia. I've been using this for at least a week and wonder how much it has affected my losses. I've actually emailed the company asking for my money back--we'll see what they do. In the meantime, stick with SweetLeaf brand as it has nothing else added.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I found this while searching Stevia. I have been using the Stevia in the Raw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is BADDDDDDDDDDDDDD
This makes me MADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
I have been trying my very best to get my weight loss restarted. I have been working my butt off to figure this stall out!
This is the very first time I have heard about the Sweet Leaf brand! I dont think I have ever seen that BRAND
