Mary- Red meat, pork and, of all things, asparagus are bad for gout. My doctor said that my kidneys could be playing a part in it too. I'm 3rd stage renal failure.

Have they ever told you to eat cherries for gout? My doctor's mother had gout and the doctor said it helped her mother.

Although some veggies do have purine, oddly, it does not affect gout, only the purine in meat affects gout.

Oncloud, hope you're feeling ok this evening!

I had my MRI yesterday and heard back from neurologist earlier this evening. Overall, nothing catastrophic but did have a lot of nonspecific spots that he wants to check out further with a spinal tap. Thinking serious ouch and don't want to have to do that! Spoke to doctor about the nonstop headache and earache and very little sleep since starting the anti-seizure med and he decided to cut the dosage in half to see if that helps.

I went back to work on Monday, off yesterday for MRI and back today. Was beyond wiped out on Monday which everyone at work was more than open to telling me then and today (gee, thanks). But really everyone at work is being great, I'm not supposed to be left alone right now and they're doing a good job making that happen! Such is life working with social workers!! Everyone is being so supportive, I do find it hard to accept, it's much easier to help someone else than let someone help you.

I'm really having to force myself to eat, I've had no interest or appetite, but at least getting something down 3x a day, even if it's not a lot. Taking the train into work, will have to get used to that for the next 3 months or more. The one upside is that the train is actually much faster than driving to work.

Checking in...
Glad to "see" new members! Welcome.
Hubby still home recovering from surgery. I fell last week in the kitchen and messed my arm up. Trying to drive one-handed not fun Still in a lot of pain, I thought it was just a sprain. Now thinking I may have hairline break. Gonna get xrayed soon. I keep putting it off. Already hit with massive hospital bills from hubby's surgery.

Still on plan through it all! Down a total of 19 pounds since I started in March. Feels so slooooooooow.

Kath---sorry to hear what happened to you. Did you get your car fixed or was it totaled? I'm so sorry. Take care of yourself. Keep us posted.

Deb--so glad you got good news! Congrats!!

Mary,
I've been meaning to tell you something. You mentioned you had a head injury awhile back. I saw on a Ted Talk something about gaming that helps with recovery. I'll see if I can relocate it and send you a link. It was really interesting!

Mary,
It was Jane McGonigal. Ted talks "the game that will give you..."

Super interesting video.

Tulip, so sorry about your arm; it's got to be difficult around the house and taking care of your husband. Are you icing it to help with pain?

"Luckily" accident itself wasn't that bad. It was the front-end (bumper, grill, lights and hood) and police had to break open side window to get me out. Car was only two days old, I had never bought a brand new car before; apparently I had to break it in!!! Car place called yesterday to say it was fixed. They were really nice and agreed to drive it back to my house even though they don't usually do that. People at work have told me that the parked car I hit is still there; hasn't been moved in 10 days now. I know police said it was illegally parked, but given the damage, I'm pretty surprised they haven't done anything with it yet. Still waiting for police report to be ready to get to insuance company, not sure why that's not done yet. Fully expecting my insurance to go up because of the seizure, just hoping it won't go up much.

Hope so, Mary and for you as well. I'm going with trying to find the silverlining out of the situation as an ok approach, but easier said than done.

Doc told me to drink black cherry juice. Man, it is so full of carbs and natural sugar. I am drinking a shot glass every morning. I think once it's in my system, I can cut to every other day and then maybe down some more. Foot is already much better but I started the steroid packet much earlier than in April. I didn't let it go so far. Hoping the cherry juice will keep it from coming back so soon again!

Kathy, glad it didn't ruin your car. Glad you have a way to work. Prayers for you.

Tulip- Glad to see you! Proud of you for staying on track with all you've been thru.

Lucky- What kind of cherries? We bought regular cherries and the doc said I needed the juice instead! Cherries were $12.53. Made me so mad. I then had to go buy the black cherry juice!

I just bought fresh cherries. I haven't heard about black cherry juice. I wasn't on steroids. Whatever I took, they told me to take until it made me sick. It certainly did.

Deb, I think exercise really helps with the blood sugar. I know Ken can't do much, but all the "stirring around" he can do will help.

thank you Lucky. sigh mostly he sits in the recliner or sits in the van UGH or when i can get him to go outside we have to have those folding chairs stationed around the yard?/ for him to be able to sit whereever he might get dizzy

the loss of his independence is really really wearing on his mental condition lately
it is like i am watching his spirit die inch by inch every day breaks my heart

how are you doing lately?/ i haven't been able to check in much anywhere and the internet has been out since tuesday afternoon

Deb- So sorry about Ken!! I know it's a helpless feeling when you can't do anything to help someone you love!! At least you have Molly to brighten some days!!

So sorry, Deb, for Ken. Maybe, he will be able to get some help with the VA ir through the services such as counseling or meds for the depression. I have found the tapping to be really helpful. The Ted Talks that someone suggested by Jane McGonigal using gaming sounds promising for improving spirits. Setting small goals. That is what they are doing with me in rehab but I am on an anti depressant along with the anti seizure med.
