Terri,

I don't know if you remember me but I remember you. I was here in 2012 (posted my "life happened" story on the main forums) and I was hoping there would still be some familiar faces in these threads. I also remember Parisfox.

I made it to 249 when I was here last and am sad to say today Im posting in at

06/24 - 316.9

I've had a horrible year and a half which led to my gaining every bit of weight I had lost. I'm ashamed to post that weight after all I had succeeded at before.

But such is life, and here I am. Again.

Thank you Bronwyn for the welcome. Hi Joanne Terri & Blondie!

I found out like 3 wks ago I am borderline pre-diabetes. My Father died from it after multiple heart attacks and loss of one leg just below the knee. He died in the hospital after them taking the other one. They took the veins from his legs for his quad bypass and that's where the real troubles started due to him not having the circulation.

All my life I have been the heaviest one in most every circle. He always wanted me to lose "the weight" but after he passed I got even heavier... top weight was 327 which I was at early this spring.

Got down to around 320 with lots of exercise and self denial of fats.... then stalled... nothing. Researched Low carb high fat because of my blood sugar levels and am losing more weight easier than ever. Dad used to tell me that the bread was my downfall. Guess he was right (again)

Today weighed 299

I'm in that lull that I can't seem to get out of. I had gone a whole year on a strict regimen and had done very well. Then the boredom set in. It's so evident that It happens to the best of us. This is why this thread seems to have a revolving door. When people start backsliding, they don't come here anymore.

I'm in search of the fire I had two years ago. I'll find it eventually. I just don't want to be the typical statistic that "gains it all back plus some" . Been there, done that. . . Two or three times!

In the mean time, I revel on stories such as yours to keep me motivated. It keeps it fresh in my mind how I felt two years ago!
Terri, I have FAILED many, many times in the past! Lost weight, and then gained it all back PLUS extra multiple times! That, and having a "problem" with food (I don't stop, just keep eating!) is what got me up to 300 pounds in the first place.

You just need to have a strong WHY -- the reason that makes you want to lose weight, and no "to be skinny" or to hit a certain number isn't a good WHY.

If you want some motivation to get out of your lull -- take some pictures. Get out a tight two piece bathing suit and take some front, side and back pictures, and then KEEP them somewhere that you can look at them every day (or every week)!!! I see my starting pictures every day and I just can't believe it... The guy in those pictures is SOOO sad and depressed, I can't even believe it used to be me!

I also feel that having goals is very IMPORTANT! I've got my single digit bodyfat percentage goal, and after that I want to start putting on more muscular size and strength. I've hit two of my fitness goals already (do a chin up and a pull up -- from a complete dead hang, chin up over the bar, legs straight below me), but there's still more that I want to do! Some of them will take a very long time, and that's GREAT, gives me long term goals to shoot for!

What boredom "sat in" for you? Food? Routine? Meal prep?

Anna and Blondie, welcome!

Amylynn you have lost almost 10 lbs this month! Thats amazing!

KetoWarrior, I read your post in my other thread and am SO glad to see you a part of this thread too. Your weight loss (in less than a year, mind you) is an incredible inspiration to people like me. And the fact that you lost/gained in the past then have pulled off this remarkable feat just gives me so much hope.

Works for me. It's weird how some mornings I FEEL good, step on the scale, and GAIN. Other mornings (like this morning) I feel bloated and fat, and BOOM WHOOSH! WTH???

Blondie! Of COURSE I remember you!! I'm soooo happy to see you! I know it took a LOT of courage for you to come back here where your roots are and post your current situation! CONGRATULATIONS for taking that step! Life happens! Weight struggles continue! They suck! But we are here for each other! I'm so glad you're back! Now, if I could get some of my other homies back here, I'll do a dance!

Keto, yeah, boredom with routine and food mostly. Giving in to the temptation of the occasional carby "treat" haunts me every day. I'm a sweet lover. I will always be. My main "WHY" is pain. All of us here, that have a significant amount of weight to lose, KNOW how much it HURTS to be fat. I don't hurt anymore. I don't ever WANT to hurt like that. I do have arthritis starting in my hips and knees. I'm over 50. You don't see very many fat old people. Especially tall ones. I want to stick around a while for my grandsons!

Happy hump day ya'll! (wish it was Friday though!)

THANKS FOR ALL THE WELCOMES!!
298 lost another lb. YAY! Well maybe it was 3/4 bc I hadn't been looking at the fractions. But I will start.
OH...
How do you all keep your daily weights to repost them everytime in single file line???

To Terri
I soooo agree with your basic/simplistic "why" as Keto calls it... you are so right FAT HURTS. IT HURTS SO MUCH! Not just physically but mentally and emotionally. The good thing is most of that pain is not permanent and hope u ease your arthritis in the next weight drop... All that physical work you been doing lately and getting under the 240 mark leaves tracks in your body set point (my opinion) and now that u got there it will be easier to get back to 239 and once u do it will "slingshot" you right past it! I am good for that. Just watch careful and as far as boredom how about do something different like buy a new shirt a little snug and hang it someplace you see often? Just an idea... obviously I'm no weight loss pro HAHA...I have bounced around the same 50-75 pounds a couple times for the last 6 years.
Uggh!

By the way.
Blondie I feel your frustration... I've been there! It makes it really hard knowing how good it felt at 249 lbs after putting some back on. But it's also a good thing bc you were pretty much 'just there' as far as your body's set points "knows"! It's only been 2 years ago & I am happy to know you were here when you lost it last time. It makes me even more excited to be here!

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and hope I can achieve a strength and the enlightenment of this low carb thing as u all have.

I really believe keeping our goals & health near the forefront of our daily thinking makes it easier to be strong in times we need it most and forget about all the bad sugars. That's what makes this forum so awesome; it will help me do that.

I was just thinking of eating without being hungry and I spent time here and YAY it has passed!
AP.

We like novels....

The way I post mine is I click on "Post Reply" at the top or the bottom of the page....which opens a blank box in another window or tab. Then I copy and paste from my previous post to the blank box and add the current date/weight.

Anna - I have a word doc on my desktop that I add to everyday .. then just copy/paste it into a new post

Terri - my "WHY" is the same .. arthritis pain. Only 56, had a hip replacement last year with serious complications, just now getting back to normal and doc said at some point the knees are going to need to be done. The more weight I lose, the more exercise I do, the longer I can put it off. So when I get a craving, I bend at the knees, say "OW" and ask is it worth it ???

This is SO cool - a little late for me to join in the party for this month but I want to join in for July. It is SO fun watching everyone's numbers go down, down, down.

Bronwyn, you will surely make it to 219 by July 4th! Good for you and how exciting!

Blondie, congrats to you for having the good sense to come back to a list that supported you in the past and will continue to do so now. I am 100% sure that everyone says welcome back, forget about the past, and let's focus on getting that scale moving downward. You'll be back to 249 in no time, and leave that in the dust as well.

Yes, it's going pretty well. It's been about 10 weeks and down 32 lbs. Some days no loss then whoooosh. I really think it's the low carbing along with tracking my food. Thank you!

Ok, I'm sure this is prob water weight but I'll take it! I can't tell you how motivating it is to see that scale move like that. I tried LC without weighing every day and it was just blah. I -have- to weigh every day to see if there is progress. I'm so stoked right now and haven't felt this good (mentally) in over a year. Man, its nice to be back.

Bronwyn, I can see the last week has been a back and forth for you and I know it can be frustrating BUT you are still down a considerable amount for the month and thats what matters! Crossing my fingers you'll see a 219 or lower tomorrow!

JoanneO, My mom has had both hips replaced and I'm afraid I have inherited her issues. I try to stay as active as possible. NOTHING helps as much as losing weight and activity. I will continue to SQUAT (not all the way down, but) and LUNGE (OH MY POOR KNEES) even though it HURTS. Because the more I do it, the LESS it hurts. Make sense? it's all about keeping the muscles and ligaments that SUPPORT the bad joints supple and strong. Most people allow those muscles and ligaments to atrophy because it HURTS too much. I GET IT.

Okay, I'm off my preaching box now. Happy Thursday wish it was Friday!!

Hey rl 2b why not start late? Jump in (I did) and the water is fine! I love it!

PARISFOX thank you & love your ID name!
Thanks to you and JOANNE for the cut/paste instructs.

TERRI Thanks I am very pumped to get over the 300 lb mark... hadn't been here for over a year. I promised myself I won't go there again so I gotta do lots of elliptical sweating today to make sure I do bc I went above 299 today as you can see. Hey bout your knees... you got a stationary or even better a recumbent bike? You'll still get the movement without the pressure maybe?

EVERYONE : You guys are coming down to the finish line for your June month... I know its the weekend and all but try to give it a good push from here on out to see a positive change in next 4 days ok?!? I want everybody starting July with a bang.

BLONDIE: keep it going! Even if it is lots of water...I'll take it too since water is that yucky fluffy stuff and without it ya start looking thinner fast! Waist of pants loosen up too! YAY!

Anna, yeah, I started with the "easy on the joints" types of exercise and equipment. When I was over 300, I started with water aerobics. When I got down to the 270-280 range, I moved up to the elliptical and recumbent bikes. I also used the weight machines alot.

The more weight that comes off, the more you can do, and you should. Muscle burns fat. Even when you're sleeping. The more muscle you build, the better. However you can get that muscle, GET IT. Even if you're sitting on your butt hefting milk jugs.

Right now, my workouts are mostly aerobics, step classes and weights. I started going to a cross fit class once a week with my daughter. I was scared! But i did it. NO I can't do a burpee, but I can TRY. And I can still run (slowly) and I can LIFT REAL BARBELL WEIGHTS. (with proper bladder control devices)

Funny thing is, yeah, I'm sore afterward. And I consider that a GOOD feeling. My pain in my knees and my hips are just a reminder of how much I did in my YOUTH. It's a nice scar I guess.

Now MOVE IT!

Blondie -- glad you saw my message in your other thread! I've said it before, but the ketogenic diet is the EASIEST way I've ever lost weight -- it just takes food prep time! You've done it before, you can do it again -- just get dedicated and make it happen!

I also LOVE data -- so I really like weighing every single day anyways! Let's me know how certain foods might be affecting me, how exercise affects me, etc. Just have to not get really upset when the weight goes UP! I talked about this many times on my site, but weight loss is NEVER a straight line down! It's peaks and valleys, highs and lows that form a downward trend over a 7 to 14 day period!

Joanne -- I need to remind MYSELF every now and then about my "WHY" also! Like just a few hours ago I was feeling COMPLETELY overwhelmed and wondering if everything I'm doing is "worth it".. I spent a few hours in a funk, but coming here and seeing you say that made me sit here and think about my WHY and I'm feeling better now!

Terri -- the thing that's "getting" to me is the food prep time. Like, I love the food that I eat, but week in and week out cooking all the time is really starting to wear me down. Or maybe that's just the "funk" I'm in, because there where times in the past I didn't mind it. I think I'm just lonely and over-worked/stretched too far.

As for boredom with actual food -- well I only know about myself -- it's been almost a year and I think I've barely scratched the surface of what I COULD actually be eating! I tend the to make the same things over and over, as making something new is like an adventure having to calculate everything out to make sure it "fits" within the guidelines I want. I see people making AMAZING keto foods and I look at them and I'm all like "when would I have the TIME to make that?!" ugh.. my schedule sucks.

"it HURTS to be fat" -- yes, absolutely! It's why I set specific fitness goals for myself, because being 300 pounds with a huge belly like I had made seemingly easy things extremely difficult and painful! Walking sucked -- my feet/knees/back hurt. Getting down on the floor and up off of it was ridiculous the amount of effort it took!

"You don't see very many fat old people" -- there's this saying that I had running through my head when I was so big -- "there's fat guys, and there's old guys, but there's not too many fat old guys" I was reminded of this when James Gandolfini died last year.. right before I started my journey!

Anna - I just scroll back to my last post and copy and paste when I hit the reply button! Also, you are extremely correct, "fat" hurts more than just physically! People TREAT YOU DIFFERENTLY when you are fat vs when you are "normal" weight!!!

A tip -- when you are thinking of eating, guzzle some water! Works for me -- gives my mouth something to do, and puts something in my stomach! I try to drink around 5 Liters of water a day, so I'm always drinking water!

TheBelly and rl2b -- welcome, and join right in! I joined like a week after the month started I think, it's never too late!

Terri -- talking about SQUATS and weightlifting, I knew there was a reason I liked you! lol

Have you ever tried BOX SQUATS? I love those things, and talk about building up your leg muscles! They are exactly what they sound like -- you squat down and back onto a low box, and then lean forward and stand up using only your legs. You can actually do them at home with a set of stairs. Stand in front of them facing away from them and squat down and back onto either the first step (very low -- where I like doing my squats) or the second step. Come to a COMPLETE pause/rest, then lean forward and POWER up using only your legs!

This can help you build muscles to squat BELOW parallel -- your hip joint is below your knees. That is the *correct* way to squat, and actually PROTECTS your knees. If you squat down but don't go below parallel, the change in direction from down to up, ALL that force gets shoved onto your knees -- very bad. When you go BELOW parallel, the change in direction force is applied exactly where it should be -- your hips, glutes, and hamstrings!

Ok, talking about "pigging up the space", I think I just took the crown, lol! Off to bed, g'night!

KetoWarrior, I really enjoy your posts. You seem really educated about what you are doing and completely in tune with your body. Its people like you who truly do give people like me hope. You have lost over 100 lbs in less than a year and that is SO inspirational for others. I can't imagine how you must feel right now but it has to be amazing.

Joanne, that was a nice little mini woosh for you! Hope you enjoy your weekend outing!

It's my Birthday! And it's Friday!

Keto, Thanks for the tutorial on squats. I know "below parallel" is the goal. That's what they do in the cross fit classes. However they do them usually holding a ridiculous amount of weight on a barbell over their heads! I squat lower than I've been able to in a long while, however, I have yet to go "below parallel". I think it's mostly fear that keeps me from trying. Fear of permanent injury, fear of not being able to get back up and having to roll on the floor to "bail". Maybe soon! I'm gonna re-read your post later and give it a try!

You guys have a great Friday and weekend! I'll check in today, but you know, I probably won't be back on here until Monday!
