It's funny. Last month, two-fifty-anything would have been the best thing and now I'm staving off the annoyance of revisiting the second lowest number I've put up in more than 5 years. I was ready for this. I'm bringing on the eggs, and staying the course. the weight will work itself out, in time.

This is a fantastic number considering I had a boatload of pizza and cake on Saturday!! I'll take it!!

I'm very bruised, battered and sore from the weekend though. LITERALLY. Friday nights Zumbathon included some turbokick instructors and also an insanity instructor. I could hardly walk to the car!! THEN Race for the cure on Saturday morning. Although we only do the family 2k (because we push my mom in a wheelchair and we have babies in wagons and strollers), we end up walking at LEAST a 5k because of the parking situation!

Yesterday morning, I tripped when I stepped from my house out to my garage, so I fell down 3 brick steps and landed VERY hard on the concrete floor. Although I knocked my head pretty hard, so far the only casualties are my tailbone and my left elbow. I'm sure more bruises will be revealing themselves in the next few days. I'm good though! I guarantee you, If I was still carrying 300 #'s, It would have hurt a lot worse!!

I'm so proud of all of you! What great numbers I see! Keep up the great work!

fish_on. I don't think I could make it too long without looking at the scale. I weigh 2x a day. I went one day without but I was too busy moving to worry about the scale that day... hurried up and got it unpacked so I could weigh the next day though.

Laura, I'm like you. I can't do without weighing. Ignoring the scale is a death sentence to any weight loss effort. I agree with some that once a week is okay, but I have the ability to gain 15-20 lbs in one week. The daily keeps me in check. It's my diet cop.

And this time, 253 isn't just because I ran out of water and allowed myself to become severely dehydrated for two days, and rid myself of all evacua. This is 253 with a normal amount of water weight, and a typical amount of retained food.

Or, to badly paraphrase my other thread:

Any given day's weight is the product of the summation of several cyclical waveforms. Food in and out, fluid intake vs sweat vs voided fluid vs fluid retained, new stored fat, old fat burned, muscle gained, muscle lost, et cetera, et cetera...

With the fluctuations that are inherent, you might see the same weight 3 or more times. Once, when you are reaching down from a higher weight - that first time you see that new weight on the scale. Again, as your 7 day average passes through that weight. And yet again, as you bounce up one last time from your new 7 day average.

Before, as I explained above, I hit 253 on an below average weight day. It always feels good to see that new number, but it is good to understand that your below average days by definition tend to be followed by a bounce. I try to think of it as a preview of things to come. This time, 253 is more true to my average weight - sort of the center of the range that I might see over the next few days. And I wouldn't be surprised to see it one last time after I hit 251, or even 250.

Same weight, each time, But the number doesn't tell the whole story. Is it a heavy 253 or a light 253? Am I reaching up or reaching down to hit that number?

If you think about it that way, a bounce isn't such a bad thing. Either you are simply correcting back towards your true weight, or you are stopping by one last time to mock a number that you never intend to see again.

Sure, everyone likes to see that low number, but what I find most exciting is that on my worst possible day - fully dressed, wearing shoes, a hat, and a coat; and retaining water like a demented, overachieving sponge - I STILL don't weigh 265. And I never will again.


A small side note for any computer nerds out there... No more long integer for me - I've finally managed to bring my weight down to 8 bits, if only barely.


Br3n: Congratulations on your new decade. that's 6.4 pounds in three weeks for an average rate of 2.13 Lbs. lost per week. Especially in the beginning, 2 pounds a week is a lot more than it sounds like - especially over the long run. Keep up the good work.

Sammi: Same goes for you. Three weeks into the month and you're killing it. Anyone who can post a loss during 'endless sea of candy month' is doing great.

I'm seeing a lot of people putting up big numbers this month. Making it through October is so vital to not hating your scale on January 1. October is where backslides begin, and all of you are doing a fantastic job of taking owning your weight loss at a time when the whole darn world is out to feed you chocolate. This is one of the strongest months I've seen for this group.

I agree with Z. October is key for the holiday successes. My doctor echoed Z's sentiment and told me to lose as much as I can this month to get a good start to the holiday season. I am struggling a bit this month with sugar cravings and not staying hydrated. I also need to start a mild work out program to start burning the excess fat stores.

Thanks! I'm glad I stuck with it also-- I do get frustrated but I'm trying to stay focused on the bigger picture. I'm perfectly satisfied with 2 lbs. per week, I just hope I can keep it steady.

Yes, October IS a tough month for low carb eating, I absolutely love Fall and all the comforting foods of the season. November and December will be extra tough, that's when our vendors start sending in candy and fruit baskets every day. Yikes! Although, I figure if I can make it through this season I'll be all set because Spring comes early in TX, and then I can talk the hubs into grilling everything.

10 days of October left!! Keep it up everyone! We've got this.

For a brighter note to mirror Z's on bouncing.... last month I was bouncing up and down at the 200# mark!!!!!! Now it's gone FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :jump joy: next month I'll be fretting about bouncing into and out of the 180s damn I'm so looking forward to that!

No, I don't drink coffee. I do drink Earl Gray Tea with SF Vanilla Syrup and some HWC. It is a great evening snack. Lovely with some Brie cheese too.

I just started drinking it with this WOE... even bought an espresso machine. The top shelf of my "pantry" shelving unit is devoted to SF syrups...

I walked 4 miles yesterday. Believe me my knees feel it. I want to get to the 220's so bad. I am almost there.

Z, I totally agree with your post.

Last night was very hard. My son was eating cherry frosted poptarts. I love those. My mouth was watering just watching him. I wanted to give in soooo bad. I DID NOT. Good and evil were struggling in my mind big time. Whew! I survived. My evil side kept saying, just this one time. Then have a little Halloween candy too. You can lose it fast. Your in no hurry to lose. My good side said ,if you eat this, it will start a three day binge. Look how hard I worked to get to this point. Very hard night for me!! I survived. It's funny how one thing can set you off. I feel like a drug addict trying to stay clean. I have a mantra I say to myself daily, food will not control me.
