Diana I know what you mean some of the people at work just shake there head at the face that I'm doing Atkins. Even though I've lost 48# in 6 months. They think the diet is bad for your health. Yet my blood pressure is going down. I started at 40mg of lisinopril I'm down to 10mg. Another 17# and I don't think I'll need any. My pressures went from 160/130 to 130/90 without meds.... so something is working. But people can't see that all they see is "Atkins". And if one more people says he died of a heart attack I'm gonna scream.

Judy!

Oh down to 197.8 today!

Thanks for the welcome everyone! It's Sunday and I weighed myself for the first time in about six months today. 267.5. … The last # I recall before stopping the concept of dieting was 259.5. Actually pretty amazing that I only gained 8 lbs in 6 months of non-dieting. I really "went to town" in those six months! It seems the “lost” weight when dieting comes back on so much quicker than “new” weight.. At least for me. That’s a good thing!

Feeling hopeful about the new plan.. The time off of dieting was like a brain reboot. I no longer will tie my value and worth to what the scale says. No more black/white, good/bad. I’ll just do the best I can and start getting stronger at the gym and pool.

I have a fun day planned today.. going to the casino to play in a poker tournament. I love games and challenges! Will stick to a couple of low carb beers throughout the afternoon and plan out my food in my journal. YAY, Day 1!

I hope you all have a delightful Sunday!

Sammi~ JUDDD is an alternating plan of a "Down Day" and an "Up Day"... Down days are really low calories set by a calulator you use to configure your personal #'s., same for Up day calories which are much higher, again depending on personal information, ie. weight/height/activity level etc. The idea behind it is that you can eat whatever you want as long as you maintain those levels..sort've like dieting every other day since the Up days are relatively high calories.. JUDDD stands for Dr. Johnson's Up Day Down Day diet. MANY people have huge success with it, and lots of people do indeed use low carbing with it as well. I stopped doing it end of last year because I just couldn't get a handle on the freedom the plan allowed. There is tons of info on the boards here for it, much more detail about the benefits you can get from following this type of lifestyle.. kinda along the lines of intermittent fasting almost. Good stuff!

Hi all!
Just dropping in to post my weight. I had a crazy busy weekend involving both a baby shower and a birthday party, and yet, somehow managed to stay on plan! (I don't think that has ever happened before!) Atkins is great, I had all of these tempting foods in front of me and didn't even have the slightest desire to cheat!!! I didn't believe that was possible.

Laura - congrats on getting back to ONEderland this week! (and then some!) I sure hope the housing situation works out for you.

Tammy - Very sorry to hear that, thoughts and prayers are with you.

Judy - I am also a newbie and this group is awesome!

Diana - I know how you feel! I have to go to ridiculous lengths to hide that I am dieting at all or else the know-it-alls at work will start giving me their unsolicited "advice" all day long. If you're feeling great and doing great, I think that speaks for itself!

Danielle - congrats on the loss this week!

Sammi - I was very surprised at the Dexter ending as well. Then again, I'm still in denial that it has ended! I don't have much time to watch TV, but I usually follow at least one series per season. I'm at a loss now. None of the other shows I like are on yet. I didn't get to follow Breaking Bad after the first season, I'll have to catch up on it.

I hope everyone else is doing well! It is 11:20pm here and I am just now prepping breakfast/lunch for tomorrow...ugh...hectic weekend...! Good night everyone!!

ok - last week got down to 289 - and really been eating clean... so why am I up to 291 I have been eating more salt... do not know why... and I usually do not eat salt... so that may be a reason but this is a new month.... so have four weeks to regroup and lose...

Tammi - sweetie going up for you and your family.... keep strong...

laura - I feel the same way.... Dr. Atkins did NOT die of a heart attack.... people get things soooo wrong..... I will from now on tell people that I will not discuss my WOE plan until they have read the book... and we all know that people will not read the book.... they think they know everything about low carb...

I feel that there are a lot of good WOE programs..and you just have to find the one that fits you.........

did not do my WA today... just felt off... will do my walking DVD and maybe will go and do my WA later this evening.... in the evenings it is nice.. usually not many people there... so I usually have the whole pool.....

trying to eat really clean this week..... and measure everything (that is what I do not usually do - and I know that just eyeballing things is not the best way to go.....)

hope that everyone has a great week.....

Hi everyone! Thanks again for the welcomes! I am so glad to be here!

I forgot to ask… What does FOS stand for? LOL

I tried JUDDD last year.. Couldn’t handle the down days. Life is too short to be waiting for “tomorrow”. I know that when you get used to it it’s a breeze… Some JUDDD’ers actually love their down days. I just couldn’t get that far. What also turned me off was how people talked about how cold they were on their down day. That is a sign of a messed up metabolism.. Not for me, but I am glad for anyone who is having success and likes it!

DesertGurl, what specific carb cycling plan are you using? Do you like it?

Prayers going out to Tammy and her family. And, a big ((hug)).

Regarding the comments from others about “Atkins”.. I don’t ever use that word. I just say I’m eating low carb and staying away from sugar and starches. With all the hype about pre-diabetes, glucose levels, refined “white” foods, most people know that is a good idea and I rarely get any comments. The word Atkins equates in people's minds to huge amounts of bacon, sausage, processed deli meats, etc. and little or no veggies. Something I guess the Atkins marketers need to work on!

I actually posted in my journal again and feel good about the last 2 days. Off to serve dinner to the hubby and crash on the couch with my Kindle and Netflix.. Tomorrow I WILL go to do some water exercises.. I will!! I will!! I hope!

Down to 196.0 today. Also got the loan I needed to move. I go in tomorrow morning and pick up the money. Then off to the renal place to fill out an app and go look at trailers of all things. The only thing i could find that accepts pets. Poor lil boys never did anything wrong. They don't potty on the floor and and very well mannered lil boys. Stupid rental people. So I know John doesn't want to live in a trailer but no choice. Where we're at most everything is a trailer anyway.

dipgal, FOS is friends of Sophie she started this thread.

Diana~ know that the gain is gonna be gone soon--it's just water.. Hang in there, girl!

Judy~ I did JUDDD last year for awhile. I absolutely loved my DD's! I did get cold off & on but it's whatever..was kinda nice during the summer months! I couldn't reign in my UD's to save my life and the types of foods I was eating was all wrong for my body. I'm followng Chris Powell's plan. I adore him And, well, his plan is awesome!
It's wonderful when you can feel good about what you've done throughout the day, go you! Enjoy your night with the reading and the movies!

tammy - oh sweetie so sorry about your cousin.. prayers for you and her family.... keep strong.....

Danielle - I adore Chris Powell - wish his show was on all the time....

laura
- wow that is great on your weight.... and I hope that everything will work out for you..... keep the faith

well, still at a stall did one hour and 10 min of WA today.... really worked hard in the pool... and will do my walking tape later today... plus saw that they have a class on Thurs and Sat for Zumba in the pool - the thing is that it is in the lap pool... very cold water... I do my WA in the warm water pool - but I would like to do it.... did it twice a long time ago... and liked it... so will try it out.... I have done Zumba land exercise... wow was very tired after doing it.. plus I do have a DVD of Zumba... just have not done it... I need to be more proactive and start doing these different types of exercise...

maybe that is what I need to mix up my exercise... and hopefully that will give me a whoosh........

but I am losing inches... and going down one dress size... made me happy....but I want the weight gone

so will really measure everything that I fix for meals..... and not eat after 7pm..and up my water intake.... something should work... will not this defeat me........ I am going for the prize - which is healthy... and looking good....

everyone have a great day... it is rainy here today.... from the storm Karen.. but not too bad... just gloomy outside....

Tammy~ you're family is in my prayers.

Diana~ Hang in there! Sometimes the scale and the inches lost don't always go hand-in-hand..I hate that, but such is life, huh? The most important thing is that you are LOOKING smaller by dropping all those inches. This is FAB! I really need to get the workout thing going, and soon. I'll have to dig out some of my dvd's and start with those and maybe i'll get inspired to walk outside a time or two! Keep the faith and know that you ARE successful, it IS working!

Ooops... I almost forgot to join the October FOS thread!

But I'm a little confused... what are we supposed to do?

Is this a weekly weigh in check? If so, for the SW, do we put the weight we were at on 10/6 since that was the first official weigh in day?

Kim~ Copy & paste the chart and then under SW put what you were at the beginning of OCT and then what you were for 10/6. Each week you'll just add your weight for Sunday... Voila!

Diana - sounds like a great plan! I'm happy with weight or inches - as long as something is shrinking! You are doing great so far, you've got this! I have the Zumba game to go with Xbox Kinect, but I still need to hook the camera part up to my tv. I have two left feet, so this should be interesting! I definitely need to get some kind of exercise going as well though! I'm hoping I can start using my elliptical if nothing else, it's pretty tough for me to do more than 8 minutes, but I think tough is supposed to be a good thing right??

The scale is not being friendly to me today, it went UP for the first time since starting this WOE. But, I know I'm doing what I'm supposed to so I'm not discouraged yet. Must be water..sodium..or the fact that I ate a big ol' heavy steak for dinner. I know that as long as I'm doing what I should be -- the weight will come off! Trusting the process!

Danielle & Laura - congrats on your losses!

Tammy - so very sorry about your cousin.

Brand
- I bounce around a few threads, I'm new and have no idea what I'm doing - but it's fun. Haha. I believe on this one, we weigh in on Sundays.

Bren~ haha! My biggest problem with exercise is I don't like to sweat or be hot! Oh, and yeah, that "hard" thing bugs me too! 8 minutes on an elliptical is great! Just think how much stronger you'll get at it if you just keep plugging away.

Hello everyone!!

Danielle, I never heard of Chris Powell until you mentioned him.. but, just searched him out on the internet and Facebook. OMG, he’s so popular!! Have I been living under a rock? Before I download yet another weight loss book I think I’ll read some of the blog. Rules, rules, rules really turn me off. If I don’t follow one I just beat myself up and feel bad about myself.. Trying to stay away from plans with many rules. That’s why my current plan of cutting down carbs is EZ! I know me though, and now that my interest is peaked I’ll probably end up getting the book downloaded to my kindle to keep the other 2,000 weight loss books company.. exaggerating kind of..

Diana, I know patience is hard, but it is key. Just do the right things, keep forming good habits and the weight will come off!! (Save this advice for when I have lost weight and am at a stall, please!). I wish there was a Zumba pool class around here. Only the real thing and I am way to unfit for it. Good for you on losing inches.

Tammy – praying for your family. What a tragedy!

I didn’t get to the pool today, but I did go for a little walk and did some strength training.. YAY – something instead of “I’ll start tomorrow”!

I went to a huge Resale Shop today and got a TON of bargains! It feels so nice to have newer things to wear and not spend a lot of money when I believe I am between sizes!! Funny, I tried on all the tops/sweaters, but I was too tired to try on the pants I got 3 pairs of my usual size but different brands. 2 fit fine and the 3rd I couldn’t even get over my hips.. What’s up with such a huge deviation? Nothing is returnable though, so I’ll tuck them away with the intention of fitting into them in a couple of months. (Pleez!)

Off to cook a healthy din-din of steak and green beans. See y'all tomorrow!

Judy~ Yep, he's definitely popular! I love his show, so inspiring and I truly believe he really cares about the people he's helping. I'm following his 2nd book. There are some "rules", mainly because he's asking to keep your metabolism raised..basically it's just eat every 3 hrs 5x a day, easy peasy! But I hear ya, I'm not big on rules either which is one of the biggest reason why I was so drawn to Atkins way back when...counting just carbs, yep I could do that! I can't really explain the change I've experienced the last month..strange at best. Almost like it happened when I wasn't looking? All I can attribute it to is the fact that I'm staying full all day long so I feel happy? I, also have a huge stack of diet books, you are not alone my friend!
GOOD FOR YOU for getting that exercise in today!! So proud! How exciting will it be to slip those pants on in a matter of weeks, good goal pants even if ya didn't mean to!

Good Morning,

I see you are talking about diet books. I have spent soooo much money on different books on different diets throughout the years. Oh my gosh, Richard Simmons, Suzzane Somers, weightwatchers and on and on. I probably now have 4 Atkins and a Protein Power book on hand at all times. Exercise equipment, the same. I had all the latest things on the market, or the latest fads going. Treadmill, skier rower, thigh master, pilates DVDs , walking tapes, yoga, callanetics weight bench , breathing DVDs to lose weight my favorite was the chair you sit in and move the handle bars side to side to trim my waist. That last one made me motion sick so I only used it for two days. The bottom line I now realize is, having THE MINDSET to keep eating right. Nothing else matters. Once my mind was made up, it happened. It just seems so simple. I thought if I bought all those things I would lose. I thought magically they would help me lose. All the money I wasted over all those years. Now I just eat low carbs and walk daily and the weight comes off. Sure I slip once in awhile, but I am not perfect. My goal now is very reachable .

Sorry been MIA. Having problems at work, took Monday off because I'd had no sleep and was in so much pain I was struggling to get out of bed. My boss wasn't happy because it meant her in the office by herself, went in yesterday and she didn't speak two words to me - talk about childish!!! I'd rather her say she wasn't happy or that I let her down or whatever but she actually made me feel like I was back in high school
I've got a hospital appointment today, two suspect moles one on my chest & one on my knee that I'm getting checked out - I don't like hospitals!!
Then tomorrow morning I have a disciplinary meeting about having time off even though they knew when I came back to work 2 years ago that I suffer with 3 chronic illnesses so would more than likely take more sick days than most people!!

On the up side I'm down another 0.2 lbs this morning so that's 5.4 lbs on JUDDD in 3 weeks and I really haven't been that strict. Stepping up my game now really pleased with the loss so far x

Ps all clear at the hospital don't have to have the moles removed or anything!!

judy - wow - I love bargains.... and good work on your exercise....

gina - sorry your boss was such a child..... and will that everything will be ok for ya......

sammi - I think I have the same books like you have

well, yesterday was not a good day for me...it was gloomy and rainy due to that storm Karen.... and I had the worst headache - a sinus one... and I wanted to eat....) I did exercise... 1 1/2 hour of WA.... but I ate late last evening... which I have not done in a long while.... I ate good stuff... tuna salad, but I know it was the amount that I had

so, today.... back on track.. (I guess we all that those kinds of days )
so I did one hour of my WA.... and had my usual breakfast and I fixed some homemade chicken and veggie soup... so I am going to have the soup the next two days... that should help me... I hope

I do feel good today.... and I will put in my walking DVD and do it... plus I plan on cleaning my home....... so it will be an exercise day...

hope that everyone has a great day.. love ya diana
