Thanks all for the welcome!
It's so great to read through all your posts and hear all the successes/struggles that you all go through. I am the only one in my family that has dealt with weight problems my whole life. And finally finding a way to get it under control is nice, but a very lonely journey when everyone around you can eat or drink whatever they want and are skinny as can be.... You guys all help inspire me to keep going, especially on the days when the scale doesn't move! Made it through my dads birthday without cheating, and even made my son chocolate chip cookies without even licking the dough that stuck to my fingers (got my hands in the sink as quick as possible)! Saw a 1.8 lb drop yesterday, expecting to see that go up slightly or hold for the next several days, as seems to be my pattern.
We shall see.... Hope everyone has a wonderful day!!!!

Thanks everyone!! I'm excited to start this journey!! I did however stray last night after church but I'm BACK AT IT this morning!

I am just curious if anyone may be/have gone through this...I have to see a kidney specialist in a couple weeks due to my blood/urine test showing signs of kidney issues. I am completely healthy other than being overweight. I'm a little scared the doc will want to take me off low carb even though I'm not eating high protein, just high fat. Has anyone had similar issues?

This year has been a year of maintenance with the food and I started walking more. Last June I started writing in my food log, the number of steps I walked each day. I would get to about 8,000 steps a day on average each month. I wanted to get to 10,000 steps a day. This is a woman who could not get off the couch without help in 2001 when I weighed 376 lbs. So today, the sirens were blowing and the bombs were bursting in my head as I came home from work and walk down to the end of my street and back so that I could go over the 1,000,000 th step since June 1st. That is 400 miles. Quite an accomplishment for a 65 year old! I had my bp checked a week ago when I went to give blood and it was 104/70. The walking and the good proteins, fruit and vegetables with the love and support of a loving God, wonderful husband and great friends both here and in my general life contributed to making this a possibility. One day at a time. NMW. A&G&C. Odd thing is my maiden name is Walker yet I have never been one until this year.

Momoffaith, what kind of kidney issues? I remember years ago of having higher levels of uric acid but just had to drink more water. Do you eat some veggies? Even Atkins suggests veggies. I found raws work better than cooked. And cranberry is good for kidneys. I had a friend who would add a small amount of it to her water that she drank each day. Others take cranberry in the form of a pill or extract.

Good Friday Morning,

Mary your walking is so inspirational. I hope to add very soon one more mile to my walking. Last year at this time,I could never do what I am doing now. As I lose weight the stronger I get. I feel younger too.

Momoffaith , I am not familiar with kidney issues. I pray your appointment goes well.

On Cloud , you are doing fantastic congratulations !!

Michelle, I can't wait for the time when I can just walk into any store and buy clothes. Right now I order everything on line. I want to shop at Chicos. I love their clothes.

I promised myself a brand new Burberry Handbag as a gift when I get down to my goal weight.

mary - wow just wow - on making 1,000,000 steps... 400 miles...

mom - sure hope that your appointment goes well....

oncloud - WTG....... you are doing great....

well, just got back from doing my WA (there was a WA class in the lap pool - too cold for me - but I did follow the instructor for 20 min...in my warm water pool... plus she had a weight movement that I have not done before... so will add it to my weight plan...) did one hour and 15 min.... feel tired but really good... plus.... after doing three food outings for my b'day..... and gaining some pounds I was four pounds down... today.... so since Aug. 11th I am down 18 pounds.... I got a great whoosh so glad..... I needed that... hate it when I am in a stall... plus my B/S number was 99 this morning.... so doing great on that......

so my first goal is to be down 25 pounds.... so I am close to it..... so will work really hard to eat clean from now on.......

hope everyone has a great day.... love ya diana

Hi All!
I'm brand new to LC and brand new to this site. So far I love it! I just started the induction phase and would love to join this challenge. The challenge for me will be sticking to induction/LC through Halloween. I won't set a specific weight goal right now, I will just be thrilled if I can get it to go down at all.

Nice to "meet" you all! I'm still learning how this site works and hope to update my profile and figure out how to journal soon.

Hi Sue! Grand babies are wonderful but I know you get tired since you keep them so much.
I am in third stage renal failure and my kidney doctor said it was OK for me to eat low carb. I hope he understood I was doing Atkins. He said to come back in 6 mon. if I wanted to check my progress so I probably will. I started May 27th. We shall see.

Good morning everyone! Today ends week 2 of induction for me... However I am feeling that I need to stick to this for awhile longer. After a couple lbs down the first week, I have not had any changes this week. (The 1.8 lbs that I "lost" were right there the next day, so I have had zero change this week at all). As frustrating as that can be, it seems that many people go thru this so I am trying not to let the scale get me down. I have been feeling great and am trusting that my body is just making adjustments. I haven't cheated and have been logging all my food, so I know I am sticking to the plan. The only thing I haven't done is buy ketostix to measure, but from what I read they aren't all that reliable. Any of you guys on atkins have any input on those? Do you think they are worth having? In the meantime I am trying to stay focused and hoping for some change this week, even if its small. I do go to jazzercise 6 days a week, and am thinking that building muscles may also account for less change on the scale. Anyway, hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Well, I meant an average of 10lbs a month!!! Duh!
Lack 1 1/2lbs now before end of Sept.
Red- You're right on all counts. Body has to adjust and muscle weighs more than fat! I used the sticks the first time I did Atkins and I was only in the darkest ketosis once or twice. I lost over a hundred pounds.( Gained it all back plus in last 9 years.) My opinion is that they are more for your assurance that you are on plan. They, in themselves, can't help you lose. I haven't bought any this time and don't plan to. They can help to motivate you by checking your color but I don't need that. That's just my opinion.

Paw- 4 lbs. down!! Wow!!

A pound of muscle weighs the same as a pound of fat, it just takes up less space. But the body retains some fluid when we first start exercising to protect the joints until it gets used to the new program. It happened to me too.

I used the ketpstix in the first mnth or so, but they never registered that I was in ketosis. So I stopped wasting my money on them. I added veggies after the first couple weeks on induction and never regretted it.

Welcome to the newbies and congrats to those losing or accomplishing today's goal.

We went to the NH Highland Games today. It was a two hr car ride each way so when I returned I immediately went to walk around my block as I was short 3500 steps. But all set now. Plan on sleeping tonight!

I am back after a week visiting my daughter and her little family. I really expended a lot of energy keeing up with a 51-week old. I was happy about the weight I had lost, but determined to lose more before we meet up again. I really did good staying on plan. All except for water consumption, too low. My daughter was a bit skeptical but supportive of my WOE. My weight this morning was the same as when I left a week ago. I was sort of expecting a loss, but I am confident that I'll see a drop in the next week.

I am going to focus now and up my walking a bit this week.

My kitchen is still torn apart and my scales are still packed somewhere. I'm not doing well but I am here reading. I have no appliances so I can cook so it's fast food and pizza. I am going to be scared to weigh. I am going to Las Vegas this weekend as big as ever. I was hoping to look better by the time I go.

Welcome to all you new losers!

Hi Everyone,

Well,my scale has not moved in so long. At least it is not going up. I am faithfully counting all carbs. I must be patient. This is not a race.

Everyone sounds like they are doing so good. Wendy, 139, this number is my fantasy number. I haven't seen that number since I was in my twentys.

Jazlyn, have a wonderful time in Las Vegas.

Sunday, we went walking in the park, car shopping up and down the aisles wading through hundreds of cars, and then went bra shopping. It's been a couple years since I ventured out. I knew I needed a new one because I couldn't make it any tighter.

Old one was 38DD, so I picked 36DD and 36D. I wasn't sure. Delended on the brands. The Lady Grace salesperson went and picked out a Wacoal, 36DDD, and it fit perfectly. I can't believe the cup went up. Maybe I was wearing the wrong size all this time.

Walked 15,000 steps today.
