Momoffaith, For chili I would saute an onion and garlic, add mushrooms, ground meat, crushed tomatoes and spices, a pinch of sweetener, a can of black or white soybeans. Soybeans are low carb as they are high in protein and not bad in the carb dept.

Have a good day, everyone!

Mary - that chili recipe sounds I will have to look for a can of the soy beans... never saw them in the bean section before...

well, I think I proved a point to myself..... for over 10 days have been eating under 20 carbs and not eating after 7pm.... but last evening I ate over 20 carbs and after 7pm it was not anything really high in carbs.... cauliflower, broccoli and some turkey..... - but I gained a pound today...

so back to under 20 carbs and NO eating after 7pm..... just do not know why I did that but I will be back on track again.....

Good for you Diana getting back on track. We all have those moments. The chili does sound great.

I usually find the soy beans in the health food section of a supermarket r in a health food store. Eden is the brand. I see the black soy beans more frequently. I have seen recipes for hummus made from the white soybeans and tahini. I have seen fajitas made from black soybeans and winter squash. These are obviously vegetarian choices.

I make a three bean salad using green edamame, black soy beans, and chickpeas, Mexican spices, cumin, etc., jalapenos. Mixed in olive oil and lime. It travels. Fairly low carb and it's been completely eaten when I've taken it to potlucks. You could add some red bell pepper for extra color. It is firm and doesn't get mushy, better marinated over night. I'd have to dig out the recipe but you get the idea.

Thanks, Bella. I don't eat chick peas but might substitute yellow wax beans. The red peppers sound good. I like the idea that it travels well. What would you consider Mexican spices?

The end of the challenge is coming up? Hope we all did good. Can we have suggestions for a name for a new one that will take us for the next 8 weeks?

Do we want to do two months again to take us up to New Years eve . . . or something shorter, or a bit longer to get us past New Years?

Big Holiday challenge?
Triple Holiday challenge?
Winter Solstice Challenge (would include thanksgiving but not xmas)
Jingle Bells challenge?

Re Mexican spices, usually whatever chili powder I have on hand, plus extra cumin.
My recipe also calls for cilantro which adds some flavor and nice color, too. Some garlic. Maybe some minced red onions.
You could fix it with just and oil and vinegar dressing as well.
Wax or green beans could be a good sub for the garbanzos. I am not eating them right now, either.

hi all - I am up for any kind of challenge... one for Thanksgiving - up to Christmas... or the Big Holiday challenge up to New Years Eve..... whatever the rest of you wish to do - it is fine with me.....

I know that this challenge and support really does help me... I am so lucky and have three great friends and a sister here where I live to support me, but I also love coming to these threads and hearing about y'all's day and receiving all your support...

I adore edamame beans, but I love any kind of beans, but have not had any for a few months.... except for green beans...

going to house/pet sit for one of my BFF starting on Monday evening until thurs.... so I have to plan well..... usually at her home I tend to get Taco Bell or pizza - in the town where she lives she has these two places (which I do not have) plus last time I was there - I was making peanut butter sandwiches alot... I peanut butter ( I can even eat it on a spoon ) so on the phone the other day she said to me... do you want me to hide the PB... and I said yes... she knows my trigger on PB..... I do not keep PB in my home.....

so I will keep it simple - salads - turkey patties, veggies ect..... plus I will be house/sitting for her again during Thankgiving 10 days (she goes to South Afriica and then at Christmas time for 10 days - when she goes to Alaska to visit family...

but this will be a good challenge..... for Thanksgiving I will come back home (we only live 15 min apart) and fot Turkey day cook for my sister and nephew and then for Christmas we always go out for Christmas dinner....

sorry so long.... I am chatty today

I lost a pound today. Yay! I had eggplant Parmesan today. So good!
Any challenge is fine with me. I'm just happy to lose one to two pounds per week. Started May 27th and have lost 46 pounds. Not as fast as some but good enough for me.

Everyone seems to be doing so well! Congrats!

Not only the weight loss but all the personal accomplishments too!

Just barely walked 10,000 steps today as we drove to my DD for the day. 2 hrs down and 2 hrs back. I had fun going shopping with her. She needs new jeans. Found some nice ones at Eddie Bauer. I got a blouse and capri's off the clearance rack. The capri's were a size 6. It is that really lightweight material that is great for hiking and I'll be able to wear to work.

I was down to 144.8 this morning. I am eating about 1500 calories a day and have beenplaying around with different things like soynuts and different dressings. Some are high in sodium. I am thinking of making my own with EVOO and lemon juice, sumac seasoning, and a bit of salt n pepper. Sumac is a Lebanese spice that has a hint of lemon. I love it!

Good Morning All,

Diana and Bella, I am up for a new challenge also. I just reached my second goal for this Halloween challenge, 232. Now I will lower it to 231. I would be happy with this number!

sammi - wow you are on a roll.... WTG....

I am down another pound and feeling really good today... did one hour of WA early this morning..... and plan to do my walking DVD this afternoon.

just can not wait for the challenge of a new month..... goal is another loss of 25 pounds - I break it up, so it does not seem like such a huge goal.....will try to drop 12 pounds next month... we will see if that happens... going to really up my exercise... that always seems to help me

Ladies.....hope everyone is doing well....I'm hanging in there! Don't think I will make it to my goal of 259 for this challenge but that's my own fault...I have been going up and down in the 260's for the past month or so due to bad choices and slacking...I think I have regained my focus and should continue to shrink Scale was 264 this morning ....Count me in for the next challenge whatever you decide to do...End of the year or Christmas challenge sounds good to me

Have a wonderful day!!!

Yeah, well... I have not eaten off plan but I have eaten a lot and too many veggie carbs. Not starchy vegetables, just too many good green ones. Big steak for dinner too.

I am glad now I didn't set a weight goal! I have maintained and not gained. Well I am one pound up from my 2013 low, but I am starting to think that was a fluke. I will take it, as I am not heading back into size 16 territory.

How about the Jingle Bells Challenge? I like the ring of that, pun intended.

I need to think on my goals, but not drinking alcohol will remain on it. I've strayed a few times, and I need to and can do better. I keep saying I will track, but I haven't yet, so I need to decide whether that is something I can do. I can up the exercise a bit, but I think I need to commit to concrete ways of doing so. The last few days I have done poorly on getting my fluids . . . why is it so hard for me to remember to drink that water?

Round of congrats to all!

We should all be proud of our accomplishments these last couple months. Maintaining is lways a good thing. It is your body taking a breath before the next change.

Didn't sleep much last night. I woke at 2 and fall asleep again at 4, then alarm goes off at 5. Last night, I got a total of 4 hrs sleep and had to have a diet pepsi with caffeine to get my head clear. I don't drink coffee, so the options are slim. Once in a while green tea ill do.

Got 10,000 steps today, just barely. I am proud of my committment to walking ths month. Will publish ths month's total on Friday.

Sounds like Jingle Bell Callenge it is! I will set it up tomorrow, to end Christmas Day. But be on guard or the wek between Christmas and New Years. It is not a vacation. We will still work onour goals.

Mary, my sleep pattern has gone all the hell this week too. I can't even blame it on leg cramps as those seem to have mercifully subsided of late. I am trying to view my plateau as a bit of my body settling to a lower weight . . thanks for that reminder.

I hear what you are saying about the last couple weeks of the year . . . I don't plan to celebrate with food, but I really need to beware the drink. Maybe we can have short term challenge to gird our loins (do women do that?) during those dark days. Or maybe the precise ending date of the challenge could be variable . . . is that too loosey goosey?
