Thank you Deb for starting this off for Sept. I used to come to this thread regularly back in 2001 thru 2003, then got caught up in other things.
I love the special month celebrations and wacky days, great idea! You've probably been doing it all along.
I have been working on maintenance this summer on figuring out how much is enough but not too much. It is a luxury problem but not one I ever mastered in my life. Back in 2006 I was down to 154, had the panniculectomy to remove 6 lbs of skin, and once everything settled down, over time I gradually gained back about 5 lbs a year until 2011 when I had an all out binge and got back to 226 lbs. so the last 3 years have been a challenge.
Now that I am back here, I don't want to blow it again. I have a special person who is an advisor or sponsor, if you will, who is helping me make food decisions. She helps me decide when we are needing to add food back in. Three months ago I started switching from low fat to whole milk to slow the weight loss and continued to lose a pound a month. But I have been walking more with the summer months.
My goal on another thread was to get up to 10,000 steps a day. In June I averaged 8,000, in July 8,600 then in August, I resolved to do it but fell short with 8,200. Perhaps this month I should shoot for 9,000 and work my way up there. I did manage to walk 101.4 miles in the month. For a lady who couldn't get off the couch without help in 2001 at age 52 and now can walk over 8 miles a day is a miracle!

Deb--you sure have your hands full. Can you call Ken's riding buddy or veteran friends to help with your van? You should get a folder for all the insurance stuff so you don't worry about losing things. Just always put all the papers in there and you'll have them.

Yay!!!!! I weighed this morning; my first day back from 1 week at the beach. I weigh exactly what I weighed when I left. I am just amazed. I was afraid I ate too much but not off plan. Apparently not!!! Of course I wish I had lost but I'll take not gaining!!
Annett- Glad your car is running better. Hope it was just the battery.
chewie- I can't wait for fall either. Plus, cheaper electric bill!! HaHa
Mary- So glad you posted here. We took your idea about the window AC unit for general living areas and put one in the bedroom for sleeping. Our bill we just got was 107. Highest yet but hottest month too. Very cool and very pleased!

always interesting here gah a snapping turtle in the backyard UGH HOW did it get up here nearest pond is half a mile away we had storms last night but it couldn't surely have picked up a 5 pound snapping turtle and landed it in my backyard ??

I just realized I typed '8 miles a day'. I meant to type 3 miles a day. 8 to 9,000 steps for me is about 3.5 miles.
I am happy to have a partner with the walking. I just got back from going round our block. I still need another 1000 for the day to get to 10,000 so will probably walk to end of street with Dh after dinner. It is so hot and muggy here this weekend. I am really sweating.
When I went on vacation, I lost a pound. That is a thrill.
Oc9n2 ... Happy the AC thing worked out. I don't know what we would do without it.

Mary, we gotta keep walking....:) It's hot and humid here, too. I walk indoors. 9,000 steps for me are about 3.92 miles....10 K steps come to 4.4 miles at my stride length.

Chewie, I am from NH but have a brother and BIL from CT.
I'm feeling a little September weight loss love! I am new to low-carb dieting (haven't even been on it for a week). In February of 2012 I did a low calorie diet and lost 50lbs, but started to plateau so I took a month off. That month turned into a year and a half. My boyfriend is a diehard low carb supporter and talked me into trying it. I gained back about 25 of the 50 I originally lost, so I am currently at 306lbs. By the end of September I hope to be down to 295 at least.
Congrats!! Do you like the FitBit? I've been thinking of getting one. What's the best part about it?
I like the Fitbit, especially because it automatically uploads all the info on their website, so I don't have to keep track. I have the Fitbit One, doesn't track sleep patterns, but I don't really need that.
It's motivating to be able to go back and see what you've done over the past month, etc. You also have the option to track food, other activity, and weight on there.

Did you see me in Twoterville? Cause I'm there! :D In comparison, it has taken me over 3 years to lose a total of 35 lbs. :o. I'm the slowest loser, I swear. I went down to Twoterville once, stayed there for 2 days, then something happened and I followed LC only 2/3rds of the day. Went up to 318.4, then back down about 19.5 lbs since July 4th. It's been quite the ride.
When you were a Reading Specialist and a teacher, did you do Daily 5 or Reading workshop? Our district is becoming very big on those and we are moving away from literacy centers. All these years they claimed research shows centers are the best way to teach, now, all of a sudden, we are to completely eliminate them and do long periods of SSR and individual conferencing.
