Mary- Yay! You're here! You have given me such good advice(even about AC) that I am so glad you will be around!!

Deb- We had a terrible storm and lightning Saturday night too. It did cool off a bit afterwards. How is Ken today? Hope he's having a good day!

Eliza- The walking machine!! I love my FitBit too. I am still at .5 to 1 mile a day. I did way more in FL because I exercised in the pool. That, of course, doesn't show up!! Congrats on the new badge!!

Lime!! So glad you're here!

Hi, Monica!! Glad you're on this thread!!

chewie- What you cooking up today?? I know it's something good!!

Eliza- Yes, I saw you one afternoon. You were taking a short break from walking and relaxing under a palm tree while reading and drinking a fabulous looking all natural strawberry water! Loved the floppy brimmed hat you were sporting!! Re: Reading- We were still doing learning centers. Whatever we were concentrating upon that week was incorporated in each center. If you've been in education long enough, you know how it swings from one opinion to another. It goes in cycles like styles of clothes. Styles last 5 to 10 years and then we were back to what we were doing before with a new name. I tried to keep constant with what worked for my individual class and adjust my teaching style accordingly and call it by the new 'name'. The phrase when I left was 'buying in'. We were asked to please, 'buy in', to whatever the new trend was at the time. Just jargon that you have to go along with or be seen as not a team player. Yuck. So glad I'm out. Loved the actual teaching and the children but hated all the added paperwork and CYA documents. It had changed dramatically from when I began in 1974. Then, we, as a class, had so much fun every day.

Jan---woohoo, you are doing awesome. To come home from vacation with a loss??? PRICELESS!!!

Welcome Lime.

And good afternoon. Woke without an alarm---on a Monday, it was nice. Then had coffee, watched the news, read the paper, folded some laundry, had an egg and steak and read a bit more. Nice to not have to do anything today.

Dh is going to bbq 2 big chickens today on the grill. We're going to spend the afternoon on the patio and in the pool so it'll be easy to watch them. Plus when he butterflies them, they cook pretty well unattended for most of the time.

Jan, the pendulum keeps swinging back and forth and somehow there is always research to support whatever is opposite to the thing we did last 4-5 years ago that we also had convincing research for.

In the meantime, each year we add additional paperwork to be completed for every little bit of thing we do to the point where we spend more time doing paperwork than planning for our lessons. You are so on the point with your observations about having to continuously "buy in" to some trend or another.

Me too. The closest I can get to it right now is by watching Magnum PI on Netflix.
