End of Summer Callenge
Come join us on the End of SummerChallenge through August 31, 2013. Think of the amazing things we can accomplish in 8 weeks!!! The rules are: No Rules! Feel free to join during any stage of this challenge!!!

Pick your own personal challenge based on whatever is important to you! and come report in whenever it suits you. Some will have a specific weight loss as a goal and some of us will have goals based only on desirable behaviors. We are all at a different place on this journey A goal could be as simple as coming in to post .. Think outside the box. What do **you** need to keep you going?

My goal for this 8 week challenge is to stick to plan and lose down to 140lbs, for a loss of 19.4lbs. This will be a real test for me as I will be travelling for 3-4 weeks during this time.

OK, I'm picking the same goal as last time - to be in the 180's at the end of 8 weeks.

Stretch goal - to lose back to my 100-lb. mark (185) and go lower.

My goal is to stay on plan and lose about 15 lbs. That is just about 2 lbs. a week.

My goal is that I would like to be 225 pounds by the end of the summer. That's 10 pounds for me and with vacations thrown in it would be awesome to stick with my WOE and get to my goal.

I won't be able to weigh until Saturday when we hopefully return home.

But today, I walked 20,000 steps or 8 miles

I did well and stayed on plan. We grilled steaks for dinner and I was able to include 1/2 an ear of corn on the cob. I sure could have eaten more but was satisfied that I could have the 1/2 ear. It is so funny that eating corn is a special thing now.

Lisa- Welcome! I'll be working hard with you on sticking to plan during vacation.

Mary- Wow, that is fantastic on the steps! I hope your husband is feeling better each day.

Good morning...looks like everyone had a good 4th :D Mine pretty much sucked....I had a massive headache all day....still not totally gone :down: I'm up a pound this morning...sure that has something to do with my not feeling good :down:

Mary: wow 20,000 steps!!! That's incredible! I have a tough time even getting close to the recommended 10,000.... Most days it's 6,000 lol

I was down 1/2 lb. today. I want a pedometer. I had a cheap one years ago but can't find it. What kind should I get?

Mine is like a watch I wear it all the time. It says Smart Health on it. It lets me take my pulse, measure my steps, also in miles and how many calories I burned. It resets itself every night at midnight. It sells for $39.99 but I got it with a 20% discount from our Rite Aid Pharmacy.

My DH is still in the hospital and regardless of where you go, you walk a lot. Yesterday I started off by taking a 2 mile (5000 steps) walk around a pond in the town where the hostel is located. He had a procedure this morning where they used paddles and it restarted the heart (sorta jolted it into a normal rhythm). It worked. He is as good as new. We go home tomorrow.

I have been making my lunch and bringing it to the hospital. I spoke to Ed's surgeon this morning and we talked about low carb. He agreed that the plaque in the heart comes from excess carbs not the fat we eat (except the bad hydrogenated fats). He asked me if I drank alcohol. Told him no. Showed him the before picture. He sounded interested.

Goals for this month:

Continue on walking at least 30 minutes a day, shooting for more.

Currently at 152 lbs. I am not trying to lose anymore but have established a range of 148-152 lbs with my 12 step sponsor. She helps me with decisions about adding in more food. Right now I just keep eating what I have been. I increased my calories going from zero fat Greek yogurt to 10% fat Cabot Greek Yogurt to pick up an extra 150 calories without increasing any quantities of food. It seems to be working.

Mary- My old one counted my steps by movement. How does it measure your steps. Arm movement? Do you have to move arms? I am assuming you program with your weight to measure calories burned. I'm not very technically minded as you can see. LOL

Up 1 lb. for no known reason today!

Yesterday I took a prescribed valium (for Menieres disease) for the first time and found that it really impacted the way I ate. I was also super tired from not sleeping very well for a couple of days. The combo really lowered my vigilance to make the best food choices, especially when I went to party where there was a buffet spread of food. I did not go hog wild or overeat, but I did eat more carby food off plan than I intended. In the future if I have to take this med again I will be very aware of this tendency to lower my guard when I am around food.

Michele- Sorry you had such a bad day on the 4th. I hope you're feeling a lot better today. I decided to go on a little road trip for a few weeks. I have the time after years of not being able to pick up and go so it is the perfect time. Trying to plan where I am going along the SE coast line and what days, but still keeping it loose so I can take any detour that piques my interest along the way.

Mary- Great new about your DH's procedure and that he is coming home. You have done so well with taking your meals to the hospital. I never did a good job with that.

Jan- I have a Fitbit Zip but want to upgrade to Fitbit Flex or Jawbone Up which are worn on the wrist. But it is a really good little tool and super easy to use and sync with my laptop. If I get one this weekend I will send you my Zip!

Alassea- I am glad you decided to join in. The motivation and accountability when you post really helps a lot. I look forward to getting to know you. Tell us something about yourself.

Oh, wow! Frankie, you are awesome. I am speechless. That's uncommon for me.

Your trip is my dream trip. My sister and her dh did it a few years ago. We live in GA and they went up the Eastern coast all the way to Maine. Ate Maine lobster and rode a ferry to Canada. When I do it, I would like to see all the different kinds of beaches and see all the lighthouses!! Sounds like an incredible trip!

It's been so long ago, but I did have to enter my weight, height and stride (low, med, high). I am medium. I keep track of it on my ipad where I record my daily food plan. Nothing fancy but it works.

We just got home, yeh! I was starving as was DH. I made my lunch before we left in case we were delayed at the hospital, but he was discharged at 11 am. Ttyl

hi Frankie, I started a journal in the journal section called "I love your eyes, especially with ketchup". my goal is to post in my journal at least once a day, if not more. one of these days i'll figure out to do a link. I know if I just keep pressing enough keys, I can do it.

I also just signed on for the next 5 lb challenge.

I just got back from shopping/treasure hunting at goodwill and picked up some smaller sized clothes for later this summer and also for the fall, and some pretty scarves.

jan, I've been collecting smaller sizes for a while now, even when i wasn't doing low carb because i figured either i would eventually fit into them or i would cut them up and repurpose them for a craft project.

I am always looking for interesting clithes at thrift or consignment stores. A met a woman this weekend at the hostel who is losing weight, so I can bring her some of my 18's from last year. She likes sweaters and turtlenecks.

My feet are hurting. Just got back from grocery shopping and cooking DH's dinner. Cooking dinner for him is new because he normally eats certain things that I don't. So now he eats what I fix and I supplement his meal with a grain.

alassea- Wish I was more crafty. I'm not good at it at all. I do have a best friend and a sister that swap clothes around with me. We are all doing this WOE now so maybe we won't need to do that anymore. When one gained, they gave smaller clothes to whoever was smaller at that time.

:hiya: just checking in....had a wedding to go to today so I ate supper off plan....the only thing that was LC was the salad with ranch dressing...lol ... On a good note....I ate just enough to be satisfied so hopefully not too much damage done :D.

Frankie: that sounds like a fun trip!!! My headache is much better but hasn't totally gone away.:down:
