Traveled most of the day Saturday to get to New Orleans. What a zoo! I stayed away from the crowded/drunken parts and spent a lot of time walking and cycling around the different parts of the city. I did eat some awesome fried shrimp but this was in my plan so I enjoyed it. Yesterday was in the car for 12 hours to get down to the east coast of FL. Relaxing here at my dad's place now. Watching golfers on the course having my chicken salad for breakfast. My dad made me a chicken caesar salad last night and even remembered I do not eat croutons.

Jan- Fantastic news about getting off one of your meds!!! I have had my thyroid meds lowered twice this year for the first time ever. I am so happy for you that the benefits of eating healthy and LC are so immediate.

Alassea- Awesome job on getting tot he 20lb Club!!

Mary- Ask the hospital for an air mattress for your husband. They really help with the prevention of bed sores for someone who cannot move very well. I hope the change in meds improves his pain levels.

Michele- Gotta get you into the 70's soon!

Joanne- I have estimated that 125 is my goal weight but I won't really know until I get there. I want to be on the lower end of my weight range to stay healthy as I age but I also want to feel and look good. So I will see how that goes as I get closer to that weight.

Frankie, thanks! I agree.

My current frustration:

7/14/13 229.6
7/15/13 230
7/16/13 231

So, I'm repeating to myself all the posts I've made over the years to not react to the short term fluctuations in weight and I am re-reading TaDa's epic tweaking post.

Michele- Thanks, I am having a good time!

Joanne- If I have been on plan and the scale jumps up I do not tweak. As hard as it is to see it go up I know in my head that I have not really gained fat. I think so often people really jump too fast to fix what is a natural part of weight loss. Pauline had it right when she said weight loss is not linear. After I lose a pound or more I typically bounce back up for a day or two before I go back down.

Good morning. This is a great challenge that I would love to be a part of. I would like to lose 15 lbs by the end of summer. I'm at a standstill but I'm going to up my exercise from 5 days a week to 6 and see if it helps.

Frankie!! So glad you're having a good trip! Sweet Daddy! Enjoy every moment with him. I miss mine so much!! I am on a lot of medications since I have a lot of health problems but that makes 2 pills I don't have to take now. This time one BP pill was dropped and about 6 weeks ago my kidney doctor dropped my potassium pill. I'm hoping that as I lose, I'll 'lose' medications, too!

Hi, Karai! How has the meat and egg fast been going? I've heard of it but never done it.

Alassea- YVW! I started May 27th and have not eaten anything off plan. I have had days where I ate too much of my LC foods though. I think that's when we get in trouble when we think that just a little won't hurt of carby foods. It gets back in your system and then you want MORE! LOL

hi jan

congratulations on getting off 2 of your meds that's what i'm trying to do too, get off my bp meds.

I started right at the end of may as well. I tend to stay around 20 carbs per day but I remember one day, a couple of weeks ago, where I was ravenous all day . I certainly ate more that day than usual but it was all low carb food.

hi phranquie

thanks for that welcome into the 20lb club! I still have another 80 lbs to go but at least i'm 1/5th of the way there

Welcome, Karai & Jazlyn!

I got the word DH is being discharged late today, so I left work and drove 2 hrs, got here at 6:30 pm. I told him I coukdn't drive back tonight, so we are staying at a hostel run for families of patients and in my husband's case, a former patient. He is so happy to be out of the hospital. He fell asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow. I told him we aren't in any hurry tomorrow.

I ran home before starting the drive up here to pick up my salad and yogurt/pumpkin custard, so I could stay on plan. For me staying on plan is #1 because if I do that, my head is clear to be available for DH. During the last 3 weeks I dropped about 1.5 lbs.

When we get home tomorrow, I will most likely go back to work if I am not too exhausted.

Hi Jan, the M&E fast is going well. I've lost 16 lbs since late June so far. I am hoping that my next weigh-in will get me to a 20 lb loss (reaching my first goals!). I will know Friday if I've made it.

I like the M&E fast because it is simple. It keeps me satisfied and, it gives good results. I have modified the plan to include lean meats, good fats, protein shakes and veggies at one meal.

Congratulations on dropping some of the meds! That is wonderful news.

Karai

Last day chillin' with my dad in FL. Gonna have lobster tonight, yum! (FYI-Golf on TV is the most boring sport!)

Mary- That is good news your DH was released from the hospital. You did so well to actually lose during the stressful last month! That surely shows that your planning keeps you from staying and eating the wrong things.

Karai- Welcome! Lots of people have good success with meat and eggs since it is so basic and a no brainer LC plan.

Jan- Thanks, I am enjoying relaxing with my dad and step mom. They are retired and it has been rainy here so we are not doing too much, but it is nice to not have a full agenda. Congrats on getting to a lower potassium too. I believe that not only the change in what we eat but also the weight loss changes our bodies back to being healthy, requiring fewer and fewer meds. Many folks have gotten off cholesterol meds, high blood pressure meds and insulin from the benefits of eating LC.

Alassea- I find at times I can overeat LC foods, especially if they are processed. When sticking to protein and fats I get full pretty fast and it is harder to overeat. When I have one of those "hungry, hungry hippo" days where I want to eat everything in sight, I make a blend of shrimp, bacon and avocado and that usually does the trick to fill me.

Welcome Jazlyn!

Hi Frankie, thanks for the welcome. I am loving M&E so far! Although I did not quite make my 2nd goal of 10 lb loss for two weeks, I am down 19 lbs since late June. I'm happy with those results. On to next week...

Happy Friday to everyone,
Karai

Hi there. I see you are still taking care of your child (body)

About the veggies to eat. These are my tips: Get a list of low glycemic veggies and choose from it. Break them up in to A,B, C categories. A being the least of carbs and high in fiber and antioxidant. As your body adapt choose from the B list so forth and so on. Spinach is good, Kale, lettuce, zucchini etc.

hi phranquie, that combo sounds good! i already love bacon & avocado but i never thought to add shrimp as well. i'm not a very adventurous cook and that recipe certainly fits into my "3 ingredients or less" requirements

I have only lost 1 more pound but I can get on 3 button up shirts that had gaps in them before. I guess the exercise is helping after all. Bad news is, the pool is closed until Friday. I will have to hit the gym instead. I don't like it as well but I need to keep it up. When I stop, it's so hard to start again.

Finally, LL Bean fixed the sizing on their clothes. They are more like everyone else's now. I remember buying a pair of flannel-lined size 16 jeans 5 years ago and the waist fit but they swam on me in the butt. Last week I bought a pair of cargo shorts there and I could zip the size 8's but was afraid to buy them, so I got the size 10's.

Now I wish I had gotten the 8's because the 10's have gotten bigger or I have gotten smaller. I am staying the same with the weight 150-152 lbs. Love my food especially my salads. If I didn't weigh my meals, I tell myself I could eat and eat, but the truth is in 2011 I let myself go there and I can really only eat a little more but then without the structure, I eat more frequently, and start eating the wrong stuff. In 2011, I regained 32 lbs in 7 weeks. I know now that I eat enough, I get enough, I am enough. I don't need more food to feel satisfied. I am very grateful I heard the message from my Inner Spirit and am taking the actions needed to maintain my weight and feel satisfied in life.

Jan, for breakfast lately, I've been doing a veggie cocktail (juiced beets, carrots, kale, lemon--added ginger + 1/2 apple today). For dinner, I'll have any non-starchy vegetable (broccoli, greens, salad, cauliflower, sauteed green beans, peppers, etc). I usually cook them in coconut or olive oil. I also slather some mayo or flax oil on the veggies and meats.

Michele, thanks for the welcome. Hey, major congrats on moving that chair closer to the machine and seeing the scale move. I don't hug my scale as much as I should...so, I look for results in many ways, including how far my stomach is from steering wheel. You look for results where you can.

True, Karai. I was so excited when I got to pull my seat up a notch toward steering wheel that I called my sister to tell her! Hahaha
I have a juicer. Aren't carrots too carby? IDK anymore!
