tomorrow is Beltane and i just do not feeling like celebrating at all

Quote:
Beltane is a Celtic festival which signals the beginning of the bright half of the year. Beltane may be translated as "fires of Bel" or "brilliant fire"
Ken will be home tomorrow night and i have the stuff to make smores so maybe we will have a small bonfire
Quote:
In parts of Scotland, the Beltane bannock is a popular custom. It's said that if you eat one on Beltane morning, you'll be guaranteed abundance for your crops and livestock. Traditionally, the bannock is made with animal fat (such as bacon grease), and it is placed in a pile of embers, on top of a stone, to cook in the fire. Once it's blackened on both sides, it can be removed, and eaten with a blend of eggs and milk. This recipe doesn't require you to build a fire, and you can use butter instead of fat.
Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: 35 minutes

Ingredients:

1 1/2 C oatmeal
1/8 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 Tbs. butter
1/2 cup hot water
Preparation:

Combine oatmeal, salt and baking soda in a bowl. Melt the butter, and drizzle it over the oats. Add the water, and stir the mix until it forms a stiff dough. Turn the dough out on a sheet of wax paper and knead thoroughly.

Separate the dough into two equal portions, and roll each one into a ball. Use a rolling pin to make a flat pancake that is about ¼" thick. Cook your oatcakes on a griddle over medium heat until they are golden brown. Cut each round into quarters to serve.

Traditionally, the Beltane bannock would have been made with meat fat, such as bacon grease, instead of butter. You can use this if you prefer.

Well, I typed out a good sized post on the April thread (since it is April 30th after all) and after I clicked submit it gave me the message that the thread was closed.I have never had that happen before....Oh, well. Guess what I had to say was not really that important afterall.

I remember those rollers! I was in my teens and would try anything to get my poker straight hair curly ( nothing ever worked! ). like you I used rags and remember those flexible roller sticks were very expensive.

Had a really good thought that I was probably heavier and larger then than I am now

Loving this mad May thread!!

Deb--I would suggest you go to a lawyer that is a disability specialist. There is info about it online, I think it's under the VA site. I had done some research due to my dh's problems. Luckily, his dr put him on light duty so he is having a little easier time but his bosses resent that he can't push 500 lb carts around. Unbelievable.

BTW, I'm keeping Ken in my prayers.

KC--we have similar weather here although we're usually a little warmer. Our apple trees have already bloomed and gone to green. It is going to get cold here tonight too. Oh well, it'll be warm for a long summer so no biggie. We didn't turn off the fireplace pilot yet and dh said we may need it later or tomorrow.

Sue, we will be celebrating MIL's bd on Sunday. I asked her what kind of cake she wants and she said a cheesecake with cherry pie filling to put on top. Easy peasy!

I just got home from taking ds14 for her driver's test permit. HE PASSED!!!! Woohoo!!! I also stopped at a Phillipine grocery store and bought almost an 11 lb bonita(fish.) It is giant and ds14 will clean it and then I'll marinate it so we can grill it on Friday. It is so cool!!!!

So ds14 and I went to Aldi's and bought 2 ten foot offset umbrellas for the backyard plus a dozen roses. Then we took them to MIL's. She was happy. DS14 drove. I wasn't even nervous although there really aren't that many cars on the road during the day.

I will be obsessing over cherry delight for a week - I haven't made that in so long - and it sounds so darn good. What I did see though - and I'm going to try it - when the cherries come in. Make some cr chees/conf sugar/lemon.
Then a small bowl of grah crack crumbs. Dip the cherry (with stem on) into the cr ch mix, then into the crumb mix. I'm hoping that will take care of my hunger for cherry delight. We'll see.

Lucky - I was glad to read that you didn't suffer any lasting effects from your fall. I kept wondering how you dent a wall and it doesn't do anything else. Surprised it didn't punch right through. Scares me something awful - even thinking of falling. What's the latest on your eye? If you said I missed it. Did you end up cooking all of those mushrooms? My b-i-l hunts for them every year. Thinks they are the absolute best things ever.

Linda, there were too many to cook at one time. My daughter, 2 grandsons, and my 92 year old mother were out last night. They didn't get much besides mushrooms. I worked all day, had the boys help me plant flowers, and then fried mushrooms. I fixed some broccoli and put out cottage cheese and called it good.

I think the dent in the wall was where I tried to catch myself and didn't. You really can't see it if you don't know where to look. It looks about the size of my fist.

I thinks my eyes are better, but I really don't know why. I need to make an appointment to go back to the DR.

I don't like cherries so it's not a big deal to me. I do like cheesecake but I really don't ever eat dessert now,I have no room. I might have one spoon of my dh's but definitely not with cherries on it. LOL

we are thinking Ken had a stroke last week he is losing movement in his whole right side he would not go to any ER yesterday he has an appointment with his VA doc tomorrow

i did not get him to go to the ER but if it was a stroke it happened Sunday before last when we thought he had a huge migraine that imetrex did nothing for. i wrote the symptoms down and will tell them to his VA doc tomorrow but honestly i do not see them doing anything for him thank you so much for your thought and candles keep them coming maybe we can get something done and minimize whatever damage there is
have you guys been on FB lately?
