My dh is back. He got the rug and it is gorgeous. It is that heavy carved oriental. Love it. Dh is shampooing it in the garage right now so we can put it down tomorrow. It had a few spots. And he only paid $40!!!! They were asking $60!

I am baaaaaaaaaaaack! I have my snazzy new sneakers. I saw a pair of sketchers the other day that I adored but I was not going to spend 70 bucks. I went in today and they were on sale for 51, with my coupon I got them for 41 dollars!

Now we do the dance of joy.

Deb..you know what..my husband's sister gives my son very expensive gifts.....he still hates her....swears when he turns 21 and goes to Vegas..as all kids do here...he isn't going to contact her. ,,

This isn't a competition., You can only do what you can do.seriously I see how in my hubs family how disastrous that is

All you can do is love them and make good memories.,., with your cakes and other things..,

Deb -

Deb - my sister has the same problem - she can barely afford her own rent but I can tell you that doesn't factor into how much her son and grandkids love her. To kids spending time with them leads to a better emotional connection than someone just buying them something.

In fact, my two step-sibs (bro/sis) have a dad that would send them money (intermittently) but rarely see them. (He's a real piece of work). Let me tell you that they call my father Dad because he was there for them - even though with five kids we didn't have a lot. In fact we are so close I sometimes forget they are technically "step" -- love is more than money.

Deb, instead of dwelling on what you can't give focus on what you CAN. My mom does not have a lot of money but the grandchildren adore her. She is always doing stupid craft projects or they help her outside in the garden.

Do you love people who give you more things or people who give you more of themselves?

Good one Lony....

With that said I do understand where you are coming from Deb. Been there and had those feelings. They still sneak in on me every once in awhile. You will find in your heart fun things that you will enjoy with that little one. For me it was tea parties with funny hats and old dresses and baking and decorating cookies with them. I can not do what the other grand mother does but guess what? She can't do some of the things I can do such as sewing. I can make doll clothes and the girls are so excited! If you are blessed with a little grand son they are easy to please and make memories with. Just sit down outside in the dirt with some play tools and cars. They also love making cookies and they all loves my special chest that I keep story books and coloring books in for them. They all know nana also has a special drawer where sometimes I have some goodies such as suckers or crackers or something special for them. It's things like that that they will remember. As far as the planning and decorating the baby room and shopping for things with DIL.....well that is just something she is going to do with her mom. I can tell you also try not to feel left out if and when her mom goes to the dr. and gets to see the baby or hear the heart beat. Or when she goes into the delivery room. With my first grand child I felt so left out. Not that I wanted to even be in the delivery room. I didn't!! I was just feeling left out. My dear son must have saw that. When he went into the nursery and we were all standing there looking through the windows like a bunch of zoo animals (LOL) he asks the nurse something and he comes over and opens the door and tells me to come on in. That was really special. This baby will adore you and I promise you one thing. You will love this little one beyond words!!
kcmama.......I have just one question for you. How in the world do you stay out of those girl scout cookies???????????????? OMG....I can taste those thin mint ones right now dipped in a cup of coffee!! Oh...and those haystack ones also!!!!!

Hi to all.....its been a busy weekend here!!!!

Deb, you have one very big advantage over the other grandmother. I believe she works full time and you don't. That means you will have time available and I forsee a lot of babysitting in your future. The more you babysit, the more you bond.

Deb, you were with them all weekend. Remember to remain in the present. Enjoy the fact that you were able to help them so much with the move. You guys have helped them fix their vehicles saving them how much money? Can her parents do that? If so, why didn't they? You bought them suits for graduation as I remember, didn't you? You do what you can/want when you are able. Don't let your mind go down this path, Deb! You are letting worry over the future rob you of the experiences you had this weekend.
