It's One Of THOSE Days

It's one of those days that can drive me to cheating. It's not bad enough, that I work in retail, but I own the store. So if they need somebody to yell at, you know who it's going to be. I've been yelled at today, hung up on, and treated like crap..... all by different people.

It's times like these where I find myself wanting to run in the back of the store and grab the candy, chips, whatever I can find. WHY???? I know that it won't make me feel any better in the long run. Why is that my first reaction?

I think your unconscious has a good impulse here - you've been hurt, and part of you is trying to take care of that hurt. The only problem is that its "solutions" don't work.

I once saw someone compare comfort eating to putting ice cream on a broken leg - it's well-meant, but it isn't going to make anything better.

You're exactly right. And I KNOW that, but there's something about that immediate gratification that calls to me. I didn't give in, and the scale rewarded me the next day, so that's making it easier to avoid each time. I just don't know why that continues to be my first response when I'm upset. It's so dumb, and I KNOW it. Grrrrr.....

It is my first reaction too. Turning to food when there is a life crisess describes me the food addict. It my first reaction to life was to have a drink and have too many, I might be called an alcoholic. By saying no to the food, I am retraining my brain to resolve life prolems more sanely. Will ai do this all the time? Just for today, I can follow my plan, by doing the next riht action.

It's my first response too. I've been sober for four years from alcohol and drugs and I sponsor other women in the program. I don't know why I can't apply the same principles to food. I am very very grateful for Atkins candy bars though lol!
