We Can Do This

Leo41 02-15-2013 04:00 AM

Thanks, Mary for starting us off!

I've been struggling to get into my 'lower' maintenance range of 141-43, and I want to do that during the first part of this Challenge and maintain there for the remainder (I tend to get down but bounce right back up).

I've struggled with finding a maintenance WOE that is as good as the way I was eating during weight loss, so I've decided to return to what I was doing then--I allowed myself a 'free day' on Sunday--i.e., still low carb but not limiting calories.

So my goal for this Challenge is to get into my preferred 'range' of 141-43, and find my best WOE to remain there.

To further that goal my aim is to make 'good choices' in eating 100% of the time. It's my attempt to keep the principles of Beating Overeating front and center in my mind--i.e., I can eat anything at any time--but I always try to make choices consistent with my personal goals and self-image.

I've found this approach really helpful, but it's something I need to continually reinforce until I 'get it' fully.

Lavender Blend 02-15-2013 07:03 AM

I'd love to join.

My goal is to stick to my WW plan and go to meetings/weigh-ins weekly for 6 weeks.

thecloude1 02-15-2013 05:04 PM

Count me in! I hope to stay on plan and lose lots of inches :D and 25 lbs would be nice too  I started out on the Paleo plan but am slowly converting over to Atkins...have been at it for 11 days and only 3lbs lost, so Atkins Induction is in order here soon! Good luck everybody! :hugs:

MaryMary 02-16-2013 02:27 PM

I am going to keep it simple for this one.
1. Lose 5 lbs
2. Re-start walking program

sherlocklabs 02-16-2013 05:44 PM

:hiya:Hello everyone!
I'm on day 11 of induction...and plan on continuing on extended induction.
My goal is to stay on plan and drink my water. I'd like to lose 15 more pounds by Easter....that would great!

MaryMary 02-16-2013 08:37 PM

Hi everyone,
I just wrote a long post and tried to attach a picture of myself after getting my hair done. Maybe I will try to put it in the signature area. Anyway, I hit back one time too many and lost the whole thing.

:welcome: Michele, Lavender and Denise... It is a great group. Looking forward to getting to know you.

Leo41 02-17-2013 06:03 AM

Great picture, Mary! You look wonderful, and I love your hair.

Yesterday, I managed to give myself a 'treat' (homemade almond butter 'carrot cake'--low carb) without going overboard and continuing to eat all day. That's a triumph for me because 'treats' usually spell disaster.

I did have an urge to make myself a snack when I was in bed last night, but I resisted because I know how easy it can be to develop a 'habit' of nighttime snacking. I'm sure the 'urge' was because of the 'cake' earlier in the day (that's my pattern) which is the reason I want to limit any treats to Sundays only for the rest of this Challenge. Since I've been maintaining and allowing myself an occasional 'indulgence,' I've seen what a 'slippery slope' that can be--leading to urges to compulsive overeating.

I was 143 this morning, and that's inspiring me to eat clean for the rest of the week because I want to stay here and stop bouncing up and down as I have been doing.

Happy Sunday ~ Working today. Things have not been great as I had shared and I hadn't caved to the food but I did and was rewarded with a 2 pound weight gain.

Home computer is fried again and because our office is moving, the IT guy will not have time to look at it until beginning of March and the tickets for a concert we are going to on March 9th were on the desk top, hadn't printed them yet and didn't back up computer because I didn't think I needed to because they were networked. Anyway, now I'm trying to figure out how to get them.

Really it does seem like it has been one thing after the other :sad:

Goals for the last challenge were:

1. Exercise (park farther away from the entrance to get in extra steps) 100%
2. Eat Slower (appreciating the taste and flavors of the food) 50%
3. Breathe Deeper 50%
4. Plan Meals 50%
5. Report weekly on the above goals 0%

As I only achieved 100% on 1 item .... my goals for the next challenge are very similar:

1. Walking Tape 4 x per week
2. Eat Slower
3. Breathe Deeper
4. Plan Meals
5. Report Weekly on above goals

Mary ~ Thank you for starting the new challenge. the new picture.

:welcome: Lavendar, Michele & Denise ~ I look forward to getting to know more about you.

Leo ~ Cake sounds :yummy: and :congrats: on resisting the snack last night.

Leo41 02-17-2013 03:30 PM

Hi Cindy- Is there any way you can contact whoever you bought the tickets from, explain the situation, and have them e-mailed to your office computer? You're living my great fear--that my computer will die when I need something that I haven't backed up.

I think that you can be proud of 50%. I read on a site about weight maintenance, and the doctor who runs it says that we aim for perfection so that we can achieve excellence. Her point is that simply aiming for adequacy leads to failure, and that we should aim as high as we can, but take pride in any positive movement.

thecloude1 02-17-2013 05:54 PM

Hello everybody! Just checking in....Everything is going smoothly so far :) Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Chris 232 02-18-2013 07:26 AM

Hi Cindym: glad you are still here.

well I'm back after a computer break-down, Christmas, and a January vacation --then it took me 2 more week to get back on plan. So now I have 18.2 lbs to lose to get back to my total lost at Thanksgiving. 5 weeks until Easter should make a good dent in that number.
We've been invite to 2 wedding this summer-one will be local and they will also have a bridal shower.
The other one we've just been invited to is in Traverse city, MI in mid July--and the hotel room is $315 a night-eeeeek- a 2 night stay is required. I guess I haven't been to a nice hotel EVER-never guessed it would be this expensive--plus gas, meals and a gift. If it wasn't my only nephew getting married, I would certainly pass on this wedding. So much for a simple wedding on the beach. We will look around to find a one night stay someplace for allot less money. Any suggestions from you world travelers?
I just got a simple dress to wear-black with tan/cream leaves around the bottom-from the resale shop-It was probably meant to be a bathing suit cover-up. Need to lose those 20 lbs to fit into it. I have a back up red/black/white jacket with a black shirt & pants incase the weather is cold. Sorry-but I finally have something exciting to talk about.
So next week I be down, hoping to learn more about all of you, your diet pal. Chris

MissMerize 02-18-2013 07:33 AM

Easter is soo early this year!

March 31st?

Come on! I'm putting in a complaint with the holiday gods.

Anyway, I'm looking to see 195.

I'm on day 3 today induction.

SINDERELLA 02-18-2013 09:34 AM

hoping to see 280 by easter would be nice! as long as i am in the 2's i will be excited!

cindym 02-18-2013 04:43 PM

Happy Monday :hiya:

Another crazy day. Sheesh.

Leo ~ Yes, I contacted them and they are sending a new email (not received yet). Another lesson learned.

Glad that you are having a good day Michele :sing:

:welcome: Back Chris ~ That wedding sounds exciting. We rarely stay in one of the "expensive" hotels because heck, who spends much time in the room when you are on holidays. LOL

:welcome: MissMerize & Sinderella ~ Looking forward to getting to know more about you.

sorenkkg 02-19-2013 01:11 PM

Hi gang! :hiya:

I want to keep it simple too:

1) stick to my plan.
2) track my food daily, even if I go over/above my daily allowances
3) I can't control the actual # that I lose, so this one isn't a "goal" per se, but I would like to be well into the 230's by the end of March. By following 1 and 2 above, I don't see why this wouldn't happen.

Not much to report here. I prefer it when things are quiet ;)

thecloude1 02-21-2013 11:49 AM

:hiya: Low carb and lovin it!

sorenkkg 02-21-2013 11:56 AM

I was a bit bummed yesterday, but seems I was just really retaining water... down 3 today, still have 3 to go till my sig weight... following my plan, cutting back on some carbs b/c I think that's best for me, and things were getting out of control, and trying to drink a LOT of water.

a friend's got a challenge going to have veggies or fruit at every meal, so I'll give that a go for a week as well :)

groovygiirl 02-21-2013 01:03 PM

Hi everyone, I'd like to join the challenge :)

My goals:
1. stick to induction
2. lose 10 lbs.

Leo41 02-21-2013 04:31 PM

:welcome: groovygirl!

Chris 232 02-22-2013 12:30 PM

Well, on program today. I have 2 weeks before my Doc appointment, and plan on losing 4 more pounds. So down to the elliptical I go and then to clean my basement workshop area. I make a tiled shelf for my plant stand, so the broken tile, adhesive, grout, tools, paint etc are still there.
I will go to Costco later to get some pecans and two of their cooked chickens. I read here about someone cooking the bones to make chicken broth--it sounds great. And about 8 meal for $10-perfect. That is dinner for tonight. I know they have sugar and salt in their coating, but I'll risk it.

Sinderella: wow you are doing well. I lost my 60lb status, even my 50 lb status, so I'll work hard and get back there. Right now my signature is a lie, but an encouragement that I know I can achieve something.

sorenkkg 02-22-2013 12:40 PM

HI guys!

Chris-- great way to make the most of a chicken-- use the roasted bones to make broth, and you'll get good flavor too. I don't think the skin should set you off (never did for me), but you could always toss it if you're worried.

I'm also on plan too :) I was up quite a bit after an indulgent weekend last weekend... but am back within a couple pounds of my sig, even from yesterday, lost a bit :).
Drinking lots of water, tea, herbal tea. Am considering getting some organic lemons and seeing if lemon water (I'll put the lemon in it, hence the organic) helps at all...

I'm really hoping to keep it together this weekend, even with a dinner out at our favorite place tomorrow. I did a lot of hard work to get back here, and I really want to end Feb with a lower number than I started with!

Have a great weekend folks! Onward and downward!

Leo41 02-22-2013 01:04 PM

I'm trying to end February lower than when I started, too! I seem to get to my low range--and then there will be a couple of days of indulgence, and I shoot back up. So I'm in 'damage control' mode until the end of the month.

cindym 02-22-2013 07:28 PM

Entire post .... gone :annoyed::annoyed::annoyed:

Thankful to have this old lap top but it is very very frustrating.

Weight down this week. Office is moved and no working this weekend. Woo Hoo. New office is much larger and all the girls decided to wear steppers and today I logged over 7,000 steps and I did my exercise tape before work :kicking: :kicking:

:hiya: Michele ~ You sound happy.

Soren ~ putting lemon in my water or cucumber slices :yummy:

:welcome: Groovy ~ Looking forward to getting to know you.

Chris ~ Never made broth with pre-cooked chickens but I make it with the chickens I cook. I add onion and celery :yummy:

Leo ~ I'm going to be happy when February is over.

sorenkkg 02-22-2013 09:41 PM

Wooooo Hooooo Cindy on the loss!!! :high5:
And the steps! :workout: wtg, kutgw!

Ps, love my tablet, don't use my laptop on the weekends or at night at all anymore.

Chris 232 02-24-2013 05:17 AM

Big news I'm into Onederland again. feels so wonderful. 8.4 lbsmore need to lose to be out of the obese catagory!
I went for our monthly outing to Olga's and ordered the original Olga--but only ate some meat & sauce. I was statisfied. I had a sampling of their new spinach/fetta soup-was it yummy-but oh my goodness, it has tons of carbs & calories. So glad I did not order their special of all you can eat soup, salad, & snackers. Now I have some meat for breakfast & lunch too. I guess I am getting better in my meal choices.
Everyone stay strong on this Sunday.

MaryMary 02-24-2013 06:26 AM

Hi everyone, Snowing here in New England again. This is the third weekend on a row with snow. We made a misstake of visiting the animal shelter yesterday. DD didn't realize she was still grieving for our Koko who passed away last August. We took a little chihuahua mix out for a walk and she started crying when we left there and hasn't stopped since. Her car was back in the garage this weekend to get the final sticker. So it is just as well, since the driving is so bad. And when we pick it up, the engine light won't come on.

Food is going well. I am roasting lamb this weekend. But getting low on veggies. Will have to make a run to the store later today. I am less than half a pound from getting back into the 150's. It has been six+ years since I have seen that number. Hopefully, it will happen by the end of the month.

Hope you all have a good week!

sorenkkg 02-24-2013 10:16 AM

Wtg Chris and Mary!

No news from me, trying out lemon water this week instead of plain...?

Chris 232 02-25-2013 06:24 AM

slipped just out of Onderland, sucks. I ate too much Costco chicken with broiled brusselsprouts and had some nuts. But I am down for the week by 2 lbs. much better than gaining.
Just over 4 weeks to Easter. Stay away from those Peeps-their evil. Think I will put out the Easter table setting my mom got me years ago. Something cute to do on this dreary day.

sorenkkg 02-25-2013 09:19 AM

I'm down a wee bit... which is weird, since I"m expecting a bounce up after my dinner on Saturday (quite carby and high calorie).
Anyway, I'm down a 1/2lb or so on the scale, and so I'm going to continue to drink fresh lemon in my water (a few drops of sweetner balance it out), keep it lower carb, pump up the veggies, and track everything.

I really want to see a new decade before the month is over!
