Oh Lucky, shingles? That stinks. I had a case of that a few years ago. That hurts. Hope the cream helps.

Tomorrow we are decorating cookies again. I have my fingers crossed they will turn out this time. It will be intresting. Natalie the girl I was with last sunday is coming over to learn. hahaha How do you teach someone to decorate cookies when they have never held a piping bag in their life?
Just pretend she is your daughter and teach her like you would a child. It is not that terribly difficult to learn the basics. Even I can use a piping bag. Surprise, surprise!Maybe she won't have the stamina to do elaborate piping but you can have her practice on a cookie sheet or parchment paper, etc. let her practice filling the bag and then putting on diff. tips to see what they do. She can do a few practices on parchment until they look good and then try cookies. Meanwhile, you could be decorating with another bag so some things are getting done.
LOL I am just going to let her have at it! I will be doing mine too so she can watch. She wanted to just cover the whole cookie with one color and be done. I laughed and told her that she could do that with hers, but there was no way she was touching mine. I have a reputation to uphold.

I do have the practice sheets from the 70's. If she shows any intrest at all I will make copies of them for her. Most of the time people are in love with the idea of cookie decorating but when it comes down to it, they don't want to put in the work.
And it is a loooooot of work. I took a Wilton cake decorating class many years ago. Decorated an entire cake in basketweave, then had to fill flowers in the top, etc. They were pretty but man your hand gets tired. LOL The worst part though was making up the batches of frosting. Course now that I have a KitchenAid Stand Mixer my opinion might change. My poor little hand mixer died working so hard on frostings......

Chewie, when I had my last new surgery, I had my husband build a 4" tall box to go under my recliner to help me get up. He laid 2X4" on their side to make a frame and put one in the middle and put a plywood top on it. He put quarter round on the outside so the chair didn't slide off. It was wonderful, EXCEPT my husband wouldn't do it when I first asked, and ended up getting plywood from the hog house. It was aromic to say the least. I wouldn't let him put it on my carpet without a towel underneath. I was worried about germs, but I didn't get an infection from it.

Wow. I cannot imagine what you all went through. Although, looking at it from outside the family unit, they had an instant and built in support group, sadly, didn't they? I am not trying to be flip or funny. Just rather amazed at how it played out. They certainly could have a better understanding of how the other was feeling. So many times people say "I know how you feel" just because they are imagining how they would feel at the loss of their husband/father/brother, etc. but your family truly did know how it felt. I am sorry for your loss.

Gosh maybe I overdid it yesterday. I feel much more sick today and I've already had a nap. Hard to get motivated to do anything....and there is so much to do around here! I just put a load of dishes in. My kitchen went from being in pretty decent shape to like a bomb went off. A new pizza place opened in town and I think I might try them out for lunch today. I would like to get my tree finished decorating today so I can get the xmas boxes put away for now. Everything just feels so cluttered and messy...KWIM?

TGIF all.

How do you pin stuff and get the whole webpage to pop up and not just the picture. I just tried my first "original" pin instead of repinning and it didn't work so good.

Well the pizza idea was a bust. Apparently they aren't open until Jan 1st. So I got Chinese food instead. But I had my taste buds set on pizza.

They do but it's pretty bad pizza. We just wanted to try the new place. We are supposed to be starting our LC diets after the holidays. hehe.

Hey KCMama I was confused about what Kohl's Cash was. I can definitely use it! I am ordering some curtains for the living room. So I will be able to use my Kohl's cash and the 20% discount is still working until Sunday so that is quite the savings.

Got back from helping at youngest's school with her Reading Enrichment group and their Christmas Carol Dickens book. It was so funny. Three of the girls in the group who are absolutely voracious readers (like reading Harry Potter in one day) remarked how long it has taken them to read just 50 pages of Dickens. LOL Then ran to the grocery store. I now have a beef stew in the dutch oven. I was intending to do it in the crockpot but ran out of time. I found some Crockpot seasoning mixes for BBQ Pulled Pork, Beef Stew and Beef Roast at Target last night and decided to try them. I went ahead and used it in the dutch oven anyway. Wanted to see if they are any good as I may use them for stocking stuffers for my sister. Goes well with the theme of the gifts I got her yesterday! I am also planning to mix up a batch of beer bread to go with.

Wow! You are like our own little Keebler Elf.

Yea, I'm still up. With all the napping I really got my schedule messed up. Oh well. LOL. I was thinking of making this recipe:

Pecan Pie Thumbprints « Go Bold with Butter

I don't have any caramel candies though. It shouldn't be too hard to make a caramel sauce should it?

So, has everyone gone to bed already? Got hot dates?

The Beef Stew was good as was the Beer Bread. If any of you are interested, I bought the boxed mix for the Beer Bread at Aldi. All you do, pretty much, is add beer to the mix. Put in loaf pan and pour 3 TBSP melted butter over then bake. Very yummy. I used my last summer beer with lime.

Trying to go through the file folder from last year for the Citizenship in the Community Merit Badge that dh is helping me teach tomorrow at our MB forum. We are also making the final Forum list, doing class room assignments for the different classes, then will teach an afternoon session. I can't wait until it is over!!!

It has turned dark and chilly here. Feels cold but in comparison to where Lony is, it's not very cold.

caramel isn't hard to make gah Betty had the BEST recipe from southern living for carmel candies but for drizzle you don't want it to set up that hard SIGH Ken has just been sleeping all afternoon and his tablet came now to wrap it and keep him from getting it from under the tree he is worse than a kid

the tree is barer that it ever has been under it SIGH IDK i mneed my mojo back
this would probably make a good drizzle

Ingredients

1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup butter $
1/4 cup whipping cream
1/4 cup honey
Preparation

Bring brown sugar, butter, whipping cream, and honey to a boil in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring constantly; boil, stirring constantly, 2 minutes. Remove from heat, and cool 15 minutes before serving. Store in an airtight container in refrigerator up to 1 week. To reheat, microwave at HIGH 10 to 15 seconds or just until warm; stir until smooth.

i think this was her recipe for the candies

soft and chewy caramels
Vegetable cooking spray $
1 cup butter $
1 (16-ounce) package light brown sugar
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk $
1 cup light corn syrup
Preparation

Line an 8-inch square baking pan with foil, extending foil over edges of pan. Generously coat foil with cooking spray; set aside.
Melt 1 cup butter in a 3-quart sauce-pan over low heat. Stir in brown sugar, condensed milk, and corn syrup until smooth. Bring mixture to a boil. Cook over medium heat, stirring often, until a candy thermometer registers 235°.
Remove mixture from heat; stir by hand 1 minute or until mixture is smooth and no longer bubbling. Quickly pour mixture into prepared pan; let stand 3 hours or until cool.
Lift foil and caramel out of pan. Cut caramels into 1-inch pieces with a buttered knife. Wrap each piece with plastic wrap.

Thanks Deb! If I'm going to make the caramel though I'd rather make a sauce rather than candies I'd just have to melt down into a sauce, KWIM? I found this recipe that looks pretty simple. Caramel Sauce Recipe | Simply Recipes
