New to LCF
My name is Kelly, I am 32 and getting married in August (yay!). I have tried dieting/diets off and on for years as I have always felt like I was overweight. I was 175 in high school, and I hit 200 pounds shortly after college. I am now a bit over 250 pounds and I am not happy with the way I feel.
I first noticed some foot pain begging around 200 pounds, then I simply couldn't do as much physically and I had to start buying bigger and bigger clothes, I am currently a size 24 and wish I could get back to my size 18 (which I thought was big then). I have had mild asthma all my life, but this year it got much worse and I can't help but think it is related to my weight. The only things that have really worked for me in the past were exercising daily (mostly aerobic DVDs), and the 9th Law Diet (low carb). The exercise was great and I felt great even if my weight didn't change much (my body sure did!), but it just ins't something that I can maintain everyday. Working out an hour or more a day simply takes too much time and once I slow down or stop due to illness or travel it is almost impossible to get myself started again. The 9th Law Diet was wonderful, I lost 50+ pounds, I finally made it under 200 pounds again and I felt great (all without any exercise), but then I met someone new and I realized how hard it was to maintain a rigid diet when I went out or if I was eating a shared meal (a lot of people don't like eating what I needed to eat on the diet, even if it was tasty to me), so soon enough those 50 pounds came right back. Now I have a supportive partner who actually likes eating low-carb and I am just getting started again. This time I am taking it easy, no extremes, no structured diet, just reducing carbs and playing with foods to see what works. That is why I am here, I am looking for support, recipes, and anything else that might help keep me on track, it's good to have people to share a life changing experience with ![]() |

![]() Congrats on your upcoming wedding. It's refreshing to hear you are not going to extremes and instead looking to find the lifestyle change that will suit you as you move into the future with your low carb lifestyle partner. Very healthy! |

Welcome Kelly - I'm new too. Been here almost one month. You won't find a better website for knowledge and support. I haven't worked with the recipe section yet, but there's lots of recipes there. If my SO would do low carb, I'd think I died and went to heaven. I make it work though. At least we don't have kids to deal with too. We're seniors at 57 (him) and 60 (me). Planning to be married by next October and I would like to wear something that will knock his eyes out - especially since he thinks I'm beautiful as I am. Peruse this website and I guarantee you will find everything you need. I just love it here! Best of luck! You can do it and we're all with you...every step of the way.

Thanks!
Thank you all for your support, it is nice just knowing there are others out there working the same lifestyle changes. I am not sure why low carb isn't more popular, it is such a satisfying and natural way to eat.
My only real complaint is that there is very little in the way of low carb convenience foods available in the stores. Maybe someday soon |

Just signed up today
I started a year ago June 2011 at 210. Never thought I go eat LC but did it and lost 55 lbs in 6 mos. Then there was travel, Christmas, and my job which is intense for the month of Jan working 70-80 hrs per week. Oh and my free gym membership thru my job went away. I did cardio 30 min 5 times a week. Since end of Dec/Jan I have gained 25 lbs eating carbs! I'm grateful to still be down 30 lbs but it will all come back if I don't start eating LC again. I'm starting today. It feels like the unknown again but I know I can get the hang of it again. I felt so much better! So happy to have found this site!!!

![]() I just have one suggestion When I tried to just do a general low carb, I didn't lost one pound. It took me really getting serious about a plan to make LCing work. I hope that's not the case for you, but I would hate to see you get discouraged and quit. There are so many different plans you can follow. |
