Just how much water SHOULD I drink per day?????

Ok, any input would be great. How much water should a person lose when they are trying to lose weight?

I found a site that said at 269 pounds I was supposed to drink 134.5 ounces per day!!!!!

Do I really need that much?

I've read the same thing a few times. I try to drink water, not only with my meals, but I sip on water all day long- even when I don't feel thirsty! I'm lucky to get in 100 oz. per day. The downside is that as a teacher, I'm having to constantly run to the restroom during my students' passing period between classes- luckily the teacher's restroom is next door to my classroom! LOL

I wish the world would turn upside down and coffee with cream counted as water. :-P I'd so have this thing knocked. The 'drink half your weight in ounces' of water method sure seems to work well for most people - once upon a time I could do that effortlessly. Now I'm such a bean fiend that you almost never see me without a cup in my hand. Don't get me wrong, I *like* drinking water, and even when I was not lowcarbing I rarely drank anything besides water and coffee.

I would hazard a guess that perhaps your body doesn't *need* that much water, but it surely helps with weight loss enough that it'd be a good decision to try.

@skoolmarm - oh my goodness, what a dilemma, heh. Glad you have that handy restroom!

The nutrition plan I am on says to divide your weight by 2 and that's the number of ounces per day you should be drinking... up to 1 gallon (or 128 ounces) per day.

Example: 300 lb divide by 2 is 150 -- this person should drink a full gallon or
128 ounces

200 lb divide by 2 is 100 -- this person should drink 100 ounces or 5 20-oz. bottles

And this includes straight, plain, filtered, unflavored water!!!!! Crystal Light and Vitamin waters do not count!!!!

I think that water is one thing that I will cheat on

I get myself to drink lots of water by putting crystal light in it.

I like to make a half gallon of the lemonade with a single serving packet of cherry pomegranit added to make a super yummy fruity lemonade thing.

When I did weight watchers they wanted you to drink so much liquid a day and said that you could count anything you drank

While I'm doing Atkins, not weight watchers, I like weight watchers view on water .

In my experience, regardless of my weight, 64 ounces a day gets the job done. I bloat and feel uncomfortable when I drink too much water (over 80 ounces).

The reason for drinking plain, unflavored water is that water will let 'stuff' like fat will attach itself to it. If it's flavored with drink mixes which has sweeteners, colors, etc. the fat can't attach. I dunno if that's true or not, but it's what they told us

All I know is once I get the water in me... I sure don't have the cravings for soda, tea or otherwise... so maybe that's a good thing!!!

I don't think fat actually attaches itself to water. If that were the case it would hurt like H### to pass urine! It does help us filter out toxins. It is important to drink enough, but if we thought we could flush our fat away, we might die from water intoxication!
