I just started today and was hoping to join a May group to set my first mini-goals!
May Goals: Eat Clean, Drink 60 oz. of water, and walk 1 mile a day. So far, I'm off to a good start- with the exception of my water goal. I drank 40 oz. and not 60 oz. Not too shabby! Thanks for starting this Annamazing! |

That's exactly how I plan on approaching this as well. I guess, my ultimate goal is to stick with eating whole, unprocessed, real foods.

New to low carb friends
Hi there all,
I am new to low carb friends, but "Dr. Atkins" is my old friend. I lost around 100 pounds about 7-8 years back, then got married and gained it all back after my first pregnancy. I have tried lots of diets in the past 7 years, and nothing has worked like atkins did. When I got married my hubby did not want me doing atkins anymore because he thought it was too expensive. I bet he regrets that now! I am now realizing that I never should have stopped low carbing. Low carbing for me is not a diet to lose weight, it is the only way for me to be healthy. Before starting I was basically starving myself all day and then feeling guilty eating a small dinner. And that only maintained a weight of 275-280 on my 5'5' frame. I was always hungry and miserable. Because of health problems exercise is very difficult. My doc wants me to do only 5 mins every other day if that tells you anything. I know that my back pain will get better if I only lose some weight. Even only 50 pounds will make my pain less and allow me to exerercise and get in a "good cycle". When I met my hubby I was in college and worked out 5x a week for 2 hours each alternating between an hour of yoga or weight lifting and an hour of cardio each of those 5 days. I had gotten down to the high 170's from the high 280's doing atkins and working out. I gained 40pounds up to 220 ish by my wedding, and have gained as far as up to 289 by a year and a half into my almost 7 year marriage. This is probably not the place for my weigh gain sob story, story but I figure I need to start somewhere on the board. I see so many of you who have lost weight and given credit to support to other people on the forms. Well, I sure could use some support and encouragement. My hubby is great, and I love him, but I can't get support from him. My mom is, however, doing Atkins with me and being my buddy. I am very grateful for her support.I just started April 25th with induction. The way that I lost weight before was with extended induction. My body does not like to part with fat and the 15-25 carbs a day thing is about the only thing that makes my body part with it's beloved fat stores ![]() I could use some help in goal setting. I was hoping to lose 10 to 15 pounds in the first few months. I know it is possible, but I don't know I will. Does anybody have any advise on goal setting? Any advise or encouragement would be great. Only 6 days in and I am already getting kind of discouraged. I had lost from 276.2 to 270.6 in the first three days then stayed at that weight for three days and then weighed in at 275 this morning. Sorry this is kind of a long rant. Help! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hey there JC!
I've only just started, so I haven't had any discouraging feelings yet. However, in the past when I have felt discouraged I tried to remind myself why I am worth feeling my best. Even this time around after having regained the weight I lost, I came to a point where I didn't beat myself up over it. Instead, I am here again because I deserve to feel good again. I want that pride that I once had when I was able to see the results of treating my body and mind with respect. The worse thing I can do is come down on myself for being human. Be good to yourself and take it a meal at a time. |

Hi JC and Skoolmarm! I was waiting for Anna to start this month's thread, and here we are!
I'd like to lose 10lbs this month, but weight loss isn't a race, so mostly, I just want to stay on plan (I'm doing JUDDD and staying as LC as possible) and get through a work trip and a long weekend with friends without GAINING anything! I usually post menus and comments here, so this is what's going on today: My 12yr old greyhound (one of 2) Haka had a rough day yesterday-- got a lump removed from his paw (on the pad) and while it was just done under local, he had a rough reaction to the morphine-like drug he was given. ALL DAY he was pacing, drooling, paranoid (I couldn't get near him) and generally miserable. Seems better today-- so I'm better today. A little tired, b/c I slept 1/2 the night on the couch to watch him. B: skipped L: lc pasta (tried a new kind, made from quinoa-- not worth switching to IMO), with margarine and parm, and a couple pieces of sausage L2-- I had 6oz of cold roast beef S: 15oz (OMG, that's a LOT) of cucumber! sliced, with a T of dressing to dip D: the plan is chicken thighs marinated in Franks hot sauce, grilled. Not sure what the veggie will be. I'll be back later to post totals (I count calories and net carbs) Soren

Thanks Sorenkkg!
Sorry about your doggie Sounds like he has a good owner taking care of him.I think that 10 pounds sounds like a good goal. Thinking about it, it seems like the most important thing about goals is how you react to reaching or not reaching them. Maybe for me I should not look at weight loss goals, but action oriented goals like staying on plan, or doing my exercise (what little I can do) Happy Monday! |

Getting a jump on my Tuesday-- I need to plan my food, b/c my down days (I alternate calories, and try to stay LC also) are a little boring. I bought lettuce and radishes, but I also have a fennel I need to turn into slaw (with some onion), and maybe I can lower the calorie count on that a bit, more than my normal oil drenched version.
Do you guys know about boiled radishes? VERY LC, and very yummy... I slice the big ones in half (or quarters, b/c the ones I just got are bigger than golf balls! ) and boil till fork tender. Serve with butter, and a sprinkle of garlic powder, s/p, and some chives if you have them but not required. REALLY REALLY good! Worth trying, and you can do it with fresh radishes (I tried eating the greens, yuk) or the ones in bags-- doesn't matter since you're boiling them. There's a cabbage recipe out there I need to find and try, maybe tomorrow's my day. Oh JC, do you like roasted veggies? Cauli roasted till really brown in the oven, OMG so good.
Kale too-- cut it into pieces, toss with olive oil and salt, and roast till crispy. Crazy good, DH and I eat a whole head of kale in 1 sitting. ******* I had a good day-- for some reason, maybe TOM (?) I felt the hunger growls and whatnot, but I didn't feel like eating. Super weird, but I went with it. B: green tea L: OMM made with eggwhite powder, coconut flour, glucomanan, and protein powder, and davinci. Something like 112 cal, 2g net, and really great texture, very bready and fluffy. D: 1 chicken thigh, 3oz pork loin, HUGE salad of greens and 3oz of grape tomatoes, 1T lite mayo and some fat-free/carb free dressing I was going to have another OMM with some powdered PB2 (finally bought some from netrition, and it's really good, and WAY lower in calories than regular SF pb.) But I wasn't hungry, and I got busy making a bracelet and a necklace for my mom's bday and mother's day... and now it's 11:15pm and I'm not going to eat now... So, I wound up at this for the total: 367 cal 6.5g net BEFORE you think I'm insane-- I'm giving JUDDD a try, and also still doing LC. JUDDD (there's a whole section on the forum for it) is just about doing some weird calorie things-- full calories for your weight/height/age/activity level on one day, and 20% or so of that number the next. The alternating days is supposed to activate a gene that does stuff to your metabolism, and helps you mentally not feel deprived. I've been doing it a month so far-- see my stats below Anyhoo-- planning the work, working the plan, right? How you ladies doing? What's your favorite LC go-to meal? Soren p.s. Haka, my baby boy greyhound, is incrementally better today than yesterday. The vet called-- the lump from his paw was NOT cancer! Now I just need the drugs to wear OUT of his system, he's still a little weird today ![]() |

JC- No problem! We all have down days. I am noticing that I'm feeling kinda nervous/anxious/sad and I'm pretty sure I'm just having Doritos and cookie withdrawals! LOL
Soren- That's great news about your doggie! I have a weenie dog and he's weird all the time, so I wouldn't know if he's acting weird-er! All of your veggie ideas sound great. I just eat veggies the traditional way- in salads and sauteed with butter and garlic. I'm going to have to be adventurous and try one of your ideas. Had a good day- off to WATP 2 miles. I might even try Pilates tonight too! |

I have a ton of the WATP dvd's... I tried one, and thought it was funny, and found a bunch more on ebay... she sort of drives me nuts, but the work outs aren't that hard and go really fast!
I have pilates for dummies dvd, very good. also, yoga for dummies-- love the pace and the instructor. isn't it late in chicago for exercising? not discouraging, just asking |

I agree about Leslie Sansone! Which is why I mute the video and put on my headphones with my fave workout music! LOL I also have her yoga and pilates and I just ordered The Biggest Loser's walking video this week too just for a change of pace!
Yes it is late in Chicago- almost 11p. Because of work, family, etc. if I don't get a chance to work out earlier and if I still have energy (like tonight!) I get my workouts in around midnight, then I take a warm shower and sleep like a log til 6! LOL |

I'm down a couple today <------------- and sig below Haven't a clue what to eat today though!!! Congrats Soren! I can't wait to start seeing some results myself.
For the last 2 days for dinner and lunch I've had zucchini and chicken stew in a spicy sauce and today we skirt steaks on the grill and guacamole on the side Cheeseburgers on the grill tomorrow- yes we cookout on the grill quite a bit all year! I would've freaked out too until I took a proper shower! LOL |

I recovered, but it took a couple of hours
![]() I LOOOOOOVE skirt steak! For some reason, it's super hard to find here. We have a couple of Whole Foods (whole paycheck!) and I can get it reliably there, but it costs as much or more than ribeye at a regular store! Don't get me started! It should be wayyyyy less... UGH.sigh. We grill all year too-- bought a cover, never use it. If it's really bad, DH pulls the grill closer to the sliding door. This winter was mild, so we didnt' do that. One of the things I lovelovelove about the place we're going for vacation in November (Excellence, in Mexico) is that they serve skirt steak all over the resort-- lunch on the beach, grill restaurant, everywhere. And they make guac by the tubful, and it's AWESOME. We're going for 2 weeks, and both DH and I will have our birthdays-- my 40, his 42nd (we went for his 40th a couple yrs ago). This year, I plan on being at my first goal, and not worrying about food for 2 full weeks! my-- I'm off on a roll aren't I? Here's my food for the day: B: skipped (spider issue, etc) L: 4oz of dreamfields and quinoa/corn pasta (did I mention? don't buy this...) and about 1.5c of really meaty tomato sauce, 1/4c parmesan D: 1/2 rack pork back ribs 1/2 bottle of red wine (slightly less, DH shorted me ) 1 chocoperfection bar 2T pb2 2142 cal (my new upper limit is 2221 or something) 103g net (but both pastas are supposedly low glycemic, so we'll see-- I was full all day though, no cravings, etc). I have a Dr's appt tomorrow to discuss peri-menopause wish me luck.S. |

Well the Dr's was a semi-bust-- she said that being fat is sucking up my estrogen, and as I lose weight, my TOM will go back to normal.
But she also sent me for blood tests (hormone levels and TSH, which is usually fine), so we'll see.I did well today, food-wise-- a bit hungry at night but I kept busy doing some new necklaces B: green tea L: OMM (112 cal) D: 6oz salmon, 6oz boiled radishes with a wee bit of marg, garlic powder, chives totes: 473 cal 5.55 g net going out tomorrow to get my hair colored, and then dinner with friends tomorrow night, out somewhere Happy Friday! How great is it to be in love with healthy foods? How crazy is that? LOL
![]() I had a good higher calorie day today. Also got my hair trimmed, colored/highlighted. Finished a couple of bead necklaces I was working on-- one for DH's mom, and one for me. Wore it tonight to dinner, with a new dress I won't go into all I ate-- but it was all pretty good. Tomorrow is a lower calorie day (and WAY lower carbs!). Also, I think we're going to see Avengers. Hi folks! Where you all at? How are things with you?
here's my menu for today: I weighed, and I think I'm up due to some water retention (salty DD yesterday, way overboard carbs on Saturday). Trying to keep it tame: B: 3 eggs, some margarine, LC english muffin, 1T cream cheese water L: LC chicken shawarma salad (chicken and lettuce) and some garlic sauce about 1oz D: probably grilled italian sausages, grilled asparagus 12 squares of 85% chocolate (Black & Green's) organic-- very flavorful, makes me want to try chocolate from different countries, taste the variations... totals: 2025 cal 38g net not planning on much tomorrow-- going to try something new with sauteed cabbage, and maybe I won't be so hungry after dinner... |

Weighing tomorrow-- will NOT be scared of what I see, b/c I know I can knock off the water/party weight, and get back to fighting form. In other news, my trip to Manila and Sydney for work in July was confirmed. FREAKING OUT ![]() |

Hello ladies - Throwing my hat in the ring as we all need all the support we can muster. I'm pretty new to this website and loving every minute of it. Started back to Atkins May 14 and lost 7 pounds during the "whoosh." Have been faithfully walking 2.5 miles 5 days a week with my sister, so I'm hoping for a great Monday weigh-in. I'm trying to stay true to my once-a-week weigh-ins, as I get easily discouraged (you can see from my stats). I've gained and lost 1,000 pounds, I swear. I've been in onederland twice since I was in grade school (200+ in eighth grade). Why, oh why do we do this to ourselves? I look at slim pictures and can't believe I'm going through this once again, but as the old saying goes, it is what it is, and this is the last time I'm going to do this. I'm 60 years old and hoping I'll say goodbye to the 270s once and for all in the merry month of May. I wish us all the luck in the world. Stay true to yourself and stay the course. WE ALL CAN DO THIS...TOGETHER!!!!

Well said 4me!
and yes, we have strength in numbers ![]() I was up NINE POUNDS after a week and a bit of total debaucherous eating. So, now I know what happens (b/c I'm doing it again in November for my birthday ).I'm down 2.6 from when I weighed the other day-- back at 251. Now I want to see 244 again... won't happen this month I guess, so May might be a wash. Onward and downward though! And, more importantly I think for me (and you guys too, I think)-- what can we learn along the way of this journey so that it can STICK and we don't have to fight this battle all the time? I'm learning that calories do count, for me. What are you figuring out? |

Soren,
I have learned that I need balance. As much as I love eating healthy, I need to have PLANNED indulgences for the long haul. Also, right now, I need to know how much I am eating, hence the WW Points. My frame of mind right now cannot handle self regulation. If I feel at the end of the day I went even slightly overboard, it will lead to a binge. With the WW Points I can keep track of exactly what I am eating and feel more at ease |
