Is 97lbs close enough?

My long term goal is to lose 97 lbs. Is that close enough to a century to join this group? I don't want to have to regain 3lbs just to join (lol, just kidding).

My name is Colleen and I just joined this site yesterday. I am a stay at home Mother of two. I gained a lot of weight after I had my kids. I want to be a good example to them, I want to make sure I am always here (and not just here, but healthy) for them, and I would like to have more kids but I really need to lose significant weight first. I am also going to be in a wedding in November, and I have super critical relatives I haven't seen for a few years coming into town for Thanksgiving. If I know them they would find some way to make me feel more miserable then I already do about my weight. I have a supportive husband but he is a major sugar junky with no intention of changing, and he is used to me being his partner in crime so to speak so it's really hard letting go of my sugar addiction but I HAVE to. By the way, my husband isn't overweight and he eats whatever he wants. So unfair. lol

So one week ago today I weighed 242 and this morning I weigh 237. I was hoping I had more water weight then that, but I'll take it. That is also without exercise though. My plan for this next week is to exercise and up my water intake.

Welcome to LCF Colleen. It sounds like you are off to a good start already! There is nothing like having to see relatives to make us try our hardest.

My husband was my eating buddy too. We are both doing LC together. I'm sorry your DH (dear husband) still wants to eat refined carbs, that does make it more difficult for you. Just stay strong and remember why you are changing your eating.

Welcome Colleen! and you can definitely jump in here!! hopefully your hubby will be supportive even if he isn't joining you in the eating change. my bf is skinny too and wants to eat whatever he wants, so sometimes cooking two things for dinner is a pain, but he's been very supportive of my changing my eating - except for maybe still wanting me to drink with him some weekends, which i do sometimes, but mostly i try not to... i'd rather get the weight off first and drink later! LOL

Welcome Colleen!!!!! I also have dh and 2 kids. I have all kinds of junk in the house but over the years have managed to steer the way to healthier snacks - mind you, it is not 100% by any means but I do have a few tricks ..

1. start buying some lc snack treats for the rest of the family and get then used to the idea that those are around for snacking without any mention or threat that other stuff is going to disappear (to that I add fruits that they all like, and some foods that are not necessarily right for starting up lc, but that will be ok in future) .. off the top of my head thing you can make: babybel cheeses, peanuts, hummus, smoked salmon/cream cheese pinwheels, cubes of meat and cheese on platter, yogurts as desserts - they even have some chocolate ones .. etc etc

2. Little by little, change out all the white items in the house .. I started buying whole grain bread with at least 3 gm fiber, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, etc. introduce sides like mashed turnip and / or sweet potato.

3. Place the kids and dh high carb foods that you do not want jumping at you all the time on the bottom shelf of the pantry .. my kids are old enough now that I have them getting their own snacks. My teen does entirely on her own, my 10 yo has some guidelines on what items and what quantities qualify as a snack, lol! best of all, I am not faced with them every time I need to cook or get myself a snack!

Anyhow .. just some ideas .. getting the rest of the family to eat more whole foods can only help their heart health, etc. Glad you joined us!!!!!

Pauline

p.s. my original goal was to lose 101 lbs .. knowing I'd be thrilled with anything close to 70 or 80 so I could just "look normal" and in the end, the 101 lbs was not quite enough and went to my final goal of losing 108 lbs .. soooooo who is to say that 97 will be the exact target, lol!!! if anyone gives you trouble (lol), I'll gladly lend you three of mine

Hi Colleen,

In my experience, relatives like that will always try and find some way to make you feel crap, whether its your weight, or your house not being perfect or whatever. I have a set like that so I can def relate.

The key to facing them will be getting your confidence back and not giving a crap about their judgmental rubbish. Losing a bunch of weight will totally help with that I reckon.

5lbs in a week isn't to shabby . I lost a fair bit of water the second week as well so perhaps you will see another grand loss before things settle down to a more reasonable loss pace.

Thanks!

Thanks for the welcome and all the good advice!

Last night DH and I went somewhere where they were serving cake. He had some but I wasn't even tempted! If you knew how strong my sweet tooth is you would know how amazing that is. I am usually never able to resist any sweets!

I had a talk with DH about bringing sweets in the house. He has agreed to keep them all at work, so I'm happy about that.

Today is day nine. I walked half a mile this morning and I've been drinking a bunch of water. Had a bacon & cheese oopsie sandwich this morning, and a salad and pork cutlets for lunch. I have decided to give up diet soda and caffeine, as of today. That is a little scary because I am very hooked on Diet Dr Pepper. I just have to be strong and overcome. The funky induction breath continues, even when I brush my teeth. I don't mind too much because it means my body is doing what I want it to. I just stand far away from people when I talk to them. lol

I hope you are all doing great and have a great weekend! Thanks again!
