Anyone around the 300# mark? Sizing question.

What size would a woman wear if she weighed right around 300 lbs? I'm 5'6" and, though big all over, hold a lot of extra weight in my belly.

I'm going to buy an awesome new *something* (top, dress, something) for incentive.

I have no idea because it's been wayyyyy too long since I was "that small".

What do you think?

Not sure about sizing, but I just want to say that you are doing an amazing job with weightloss. I am in awe of your progress and could not be happier for you, Lisa.

I hope you will keep posting new photos so we can see the progress. When I weighed 238, I wore a tight 2x loose 3x and some 22s. But, my trouble area is my chest.

umm..I carry alot of weight in my belly and when I was at 300lbs about 3 years ago the sizes I wore were based on who the manufacturer was, how the garment was cut and what I was trying to achieve a far as accentuating my look. I recall I was in a 26/28 or a 24/22 alot of the time as far as dresses depending on the style (princess cut, empire waist, etc.). Pants have always been a nightmare because of my belly so I always had to go bigger there but if there was give in the waist I could squeeze into a 24 back then. I don't have much on top so I was in a 18/20 for my blouses Hope that helps!

Congrats to you! Fantastic!!! I was hovering around 300 for a long time and I'm also 5'6" -- I generally wore a 26/28 (now 24 solidly at 276). Like others have said, it really depends on your body shape and the manufacturers. I carry a lot of my weight in the belly and chest. I find the clothes at Kiyonna.com are fantastic for my body shape and I feel great in them to boot. I wear a "size 4" there, but I think I may need a size 3 next time I get something there. Good luck finding something great!!! You deserve it!!!

Thanks Miss Gigl. I'm trying to break through the 330's. That was a former set weight for me. I stayed that weight for a lot of years. I haven't seen 300 since high school (except for a brief 5 day period when I first low carbed).

You may or may not experience a size differential compared to what you are now. As others have said, it really depends on the cut, company, etc.

Congrats!

I am 5'7 , weight is 295. Measurements are 50 inches in bust , 44 in waist and 60 in hips. I wear 2x-3x depending on how its made. I wear nothing that shows my rolls or is above my budda belly. Tops have to be 28 29 inches long..I like loose fitting tops, jeans 22-24. I have a mini tape measure on my key ring..so many times I buy a top only to get home and its 27 inches long and that doesn't cover the dropped tummy....(I never try things on at the store) For me there is a huge difference in the way my top looks if its 27 or less.

Congrats on your weight loss so far! I'm about 5'7", when I started I was 281 and wore size 26 pants, and 3X tops. Now at about 240 I'm a 1X (18-20) in tops, size 20 pants.

Thanks everyone! I've plowed through my closet to find some old clothes that were too small. I had put them away to take to Goodwill. Now I'm glad I didn't. They fit! Just a few shirts, but it'll keep me from having to buy anything in the meantime.

Thank you all again!

I worked with a woman recently who is around 300 and her outfits were so nice I asked her where she shopped for them. She buys her clothes at J Jill. She told me she has trouble with the online store with their sizing but if you are near a J Jill store - apparently their stores have really awesome clothes. She always looked lovely in everything she wore from that store. Congrats on your big loss. You deserve something really nice for yourself.

Definitely measure. I'm 5'10" and wear a 26/28 and have for years. YMMV. I've been in that size since I was around 250 though, I have huge boobs. I'm in an H cup.

BBG nice to have you join us. I'm gonna go with it depends on the maker of the clothing but generally at 300 I wore 3x, now they swim on me. I love it when people tell me my clothes are too big. I don't have the funds to buy new clothes on this journey but I too have shopped in my good will bags. It makes me smile. I wish many smiles for you.

Congrats on your progress so far!

I'm 5' 4", and at my top weight of 297, was stuffing myself into size 26 jeans and 3X tops. Belly and boobs are my biggest obstacles.

Hope this helps...

Ok, wow I feel really big now! At 255 I am still in a 2X top and a 24 jean. I guess it all depends on the person and the clothing. I like my clothes a bit on the big side. (Still hiding in them) PLUS muffin top is my biggest pet peeve, on me or someone else. But I am 5'10 and have the big ole belly.

I am 5"6 and apple shaped. I am currently 230 pounds and still wear some 3X, more 2X and some size 22 womens pants and dresses. Right now my body is at a very awkard shape and clothing is not fitting well.

When I was at 145-165 pounds when I was about 30 years old, I wore size 12. I fit into a couple of size 9 for 15 minutes. lol. But in general, I could count on size 12, because my waist, while more in proportion when at goal, was never shapely.

I like the idea of a single clothing item as a goal, but I found something more fun. I use my wedding dress. I weighed close to 300 pounds when I got married and I have tried it on at this midpoint, took photo's and compared them to my wedding pictures. Oh, I remember how tight that dress was and how uncomfortable I was wearing it. Now, it it too big! THAT feeling is more encouraging to me that the feeling I still can't get into something yet.

Either way....finding fun things to do is always encouraging. Another thing I am doing is making a necklaces, one of quartz beads and one of glass pearls. One bead for every pound lost, a great visual. One day I will wear them so proudly and it will be a reminded of my accomplishment. Another funny one that I loved was one woman I knew made a fat cloth doll, small enough to sit on her desk. She stuck the number of straight pins in it that was her excess weight. She removed a pin for each pound lost and it reminded her of how much less pain she endured for the pound.

One, I love the the necklace idea and the pins in the doll...I think I just might do both. The necklace is definitely going to happen. Thanks for the idea.

Lony, I am with you about the muffin top and making sure my clothes do not fit tight. I just don't want all my fat bulging out for the world to see. The world knows I am big but they don't need to see each roll.... I wear jeans that do not have elastic in the waist so there is no give. Its the best gauge of whats going on...if it gets tighter Im not working the plan...loose means Im in my zone Taking tucks in the waist band calls for celebration...
