Hi all had a very interesting weekend and cheated a little bit but for the most part did well. Finished up week one of Couch to 5k (walk/run in the rain with friends!) but yesterday had a hamburger with the bun. I think that while I am exercising, I am less sensitive to carbs because I am still down almost a pound over the weekend.

Hot Stuff

In my house we use Sriracha (a Thai hot sauce) on everything and in everything...I once saw an episode of Top Chef where someone tried to make ice cream with it!!

Me likie spicy stuff, too! Hot sauce is a staple for my food, but DH and DS aren't much into it. The Asian section of the grocery store has a nice selection of hot sauces.

There is a Thai restaurant here that places 1 to 5 hot peppers by its dishes so you know how spicy it is. I looooove their coconut milk soup with straw mushrooms.

OMG, both DH and I had stressful days today. DH was a witness to a bad accident at his work where part of a man's face was burned off by hot steam.

As for me, I was driving through a not-so-stellar neighborhood and just as I was about to turn on to a main street, I looked to my left and saw a woman walking toward me literally covered in blood from head to toe, feet and arms included. Her face was completely red from all the blood on it. I jumped out of my car and asked her what we can do next.

Poor woman seemed to be in shock. She told me a man who had been holding her hostage for 2 days, stole here credit cards, and beat her up badly. I ended up calling 911 and waiting for paramedics and police, etc. It was shocking and scary. I hope they catch that b@stard who attacked her.

We need to count our blessings every day.

Hi-
Hot spicy things are BAD and uneaten in my house. My digestive track runs from things like that or tries to get them out of my body as fast as possible so I avoid them. The milder the better. I do like different flavors, just nothing hot/spicy.

Deb-hope your hubby is ok. Why can't I PM you anymore? there's not that option under your name anymore. can you PM me your private email so we can converse that way?

Eliza-how traumatic for everyone involved. Hope the people injured are ok and that you and your hubby recover from the shock and horror you both must have experienced.

Hi Angie-good to see ya!

J Biggars-KUTGW and congrats!

Steve-congrats on the weight loss and the exercise! WOOHOO!

Faced alot of temptation tonight-Pizza party/meal at the monthly meeting of the charity organization that I preside over. I did ok. Just ate pizza toppings, wings (without sauce) and some salad. I did have some fruit chunks for dessert but only like 1/4 cup.

Saw a commercial for the KFC double down sandwich..am definitely gonna have to go get one before the weekend. Anyone tried the fried or the grilled version of those? if so, what did it taste like and what was the verdict?

--Laura

Good Tuesday morning everyone!
I'm at the office for a few hours so I'm trying to catch up on everyone.
Eliza, That is just so sad about the man and the lady. Prayers for them and also you and your hubby. Something like that is so upsetting.
I am the same way with music Eliza!! Isn't it something how it can move you and change your feeling and mood? I'm such a whimp when it comes to weddings also. I watch that show "Say Yes to the dress' and it makes me cry just watching them try the weding dresses on! I cry so easy. In church I cry when they sing a lot of the songs. That's just me I guess!
JBiggars....Way to go!!!!!!!!!
Beth...I think it was you who asked if I tried the "Butter Chicken" recipe yet. Yes I did. I went to a lot of trouble hunting down the spice that goes into it and I was so looking forward to it. Well......lets just say hubby and I are not lovers of the Indian type flavor. I'm sure it is a wonderful recipe if you care for that taste but I didn't even care for the smell. We had it last evening and hubby said he would personally go throw the recipe out if I didn't. I told him not to worry I would do it. I think I will stick with the Mexican and Italian recipes!!
I so missed not seeing Bill on here when I got on. Please get better soon friend!!
Steve, my hat is off to you. Running and walking in a 5 K! WTG!!
Happy Birthday Jean and tons of prayers coming your way!!

Hello to everyone else.....miss not being on the computer daily.
I feel as if I am losing weight but I promised myself to stay off the scale so I don't know for sure how I am doing scale wise.
Catch you later....
B-Protein drink (Atkins)

Unfortunately some of my favorite Thai recipes involve rice noodles

My favorite is a dish called Pad See Ew; it is thinly sliced beef/chicken/pork, chinese broccoli (which is different than ours) and wide flat rice noodles. The whole thing is cooked with a special 'dark' soy sauce that turns everything caramel brown instead of just salty.

Most of the Thai curries 'could' be eaten without rice or noodles. Red Curry is my favorite.

Tom Kha (Coconut Soup) is awesome.

There is a simple ground beef dish that I can't remember the name...it's like Sloppy Joes! It is ground beef, sriracha, onions, sweetener, thai soy sauce...can't think what else but it is hot and it is good...

I love to cook.

Worked overnight last night so no workout this morning, but I will be going for my run/walk with friends at 5:30. (Couch to 5k - week 2)

Hey guys - just popping in to say hi. I'll try to catch up on posts later - i'm in the middle of catching up on school work with the kids (12 more days and I could technically be done with my 180 required days for the state - we could finish our books in about 20 though so we'll see). The move went fine - all safe and sound. My mom already found a little apartment in the next town over so she's out of my house already (:happy dance. I did okay foodwise during travelling/moving - more salt than I should have and I had 6 pound gain (mostly water) that's almost back off (323 this morning). I have been terrible about walking and I really need to get back into that. I hope everyone's well and i'll try to work my way through the posts - ya'll were sure chatty while I was gone!

Many thanks to all of you for your prayers. One just becomes so wrapped into one's safe and comfy life that I sometimes forget that there is so much suffering in the world.

Jerome, I congratulated you on the TOPS thread, but I will do it here again if you don't mind. Go get them!

Laura, thumbs up to you for not succumbing to the carby goodness/evilness of the pizza and just sticking with the toppings! It must have been tough to be in that food environment, but you did so great!

Deb, thanks for updating us with Bill's facebook postings. I worry about him and keep him in my prayers . How is Marble today? Did you get the enclosure yet?

Sue, your daily menu looks wonderful! Sad to hear your computer is still on the fritz. Hope it gets fixed soon. I too watch say yes to the dress and cry. In my day-to-day I am pretty "dry", but music, movies, weddings, and some books do make me cry ... often. And so does the National Anthem - I find it beautiful ...

Steve, I am totally with you on the Tom Kha All your delicious descriptions of Thai food made me hungry. Now I have to go look for something LC in my fridge.

Min, glad your move is over and everything is returning back to normal. You and I are of similar weight and I hate those water lb. that stick around sometimes.

Hi Winifred

Miracle noodles go with everything! I'm sure they'd be good in a curry at least to catch the sauce...I once used them for Chicken Marsala which is one of my favorites to cook.

Just finished my run/walk (Couch to 5k Week 2 Day 1)

Thanks so much for all your beautiful graphics, Birthday wishes and Prayers. They mean a lot to me. especially right now... My Dr 's office called and there is trouble with my newest blood work, I go in to talk about it on Friday and to see what is next... But I am not going to dwell on it today!!
Today is my Birthday and I am enjoying evrey minute of it
I am 48 today and as I peek back at you from OVER the "many" HILLS I have crossed so far, I have only one thing to say... The journey may be a little rough in spots, but MAN What a Ride!!!

Eliza, I am praying for the folks who were so hurt. SHe is very lucky you were put into her path to help her... there are some folks in this world who would have turned away.

Happy Belated birthday MPB Jean!!!! I'll be 56 on my next bd in September...boy time flys!
I finally have my whole house back in order after DS and family moved out. It took this long cause I have been dealing with a small crisis with Mom and Dads little dog. I spent Monday at their house watching him and thought he was improving. Yesterday both parents were about to cry cause he was no better. He bit me on 2 fingers pretty good when I tried to get some meds in him and so I pretty much had had it. After 30 minutes on the phone I found a vet to see him. Turns out he appears to have a pinched nerve which is making him feel bad. I crushed his meds and mixed them with Liverwurst but that is all I can do cause NO MORE bites for me.
My d brother got the dog for them and now I get to look after it. Sigh, life is trying some days lol.
HAGD..Come back soon Bill,
Jean
