HI Ladies...

Tomorrow is weigh day.

Hi Susan how is all going with you did we talk you away...hope not.

Laura how are you coming along?

I had a weak moment and ate more legal food than I should have.
DH found a Rib Eye Steak sale and we had quite a steak dinner yeterday. I am not at all hungry today it really took my appetite away that is high protein for ya.

Carby food gives me headaches and weakness sleepies and makes me feel hungry.

Heidi and Brenda if your reading this I send you both a hug and hello!!

Hello everyone!

Well today is my very first post! I just couldn't keep lurking. I have so enjoyed reading everyone's posts and wanted to contribute. I have been doing Atkins about two months now. I don't know how much I have lost because I don't own scales. I am afraid to weigh because I feel that psychologically it would hurt instead of help. If I see that the scales aren't moving, that could lead to cheating.

I have gone from a size 22-20 to a 18-20 since Aug. I figure as long as my clothes are getting looser and I'm in ketosis, I must be doing something right. I have about 100lbs to lose. I'm not concerned about losing it fast...just losing it. I have a six year old and I don't want to develop diabetes. I'm ready to take control of my weight issue once and for all. I lost this same 100lbs 10 years ago and it took 10 years to find it again. This time it's different. I'm not doing this for my looks, I'm doing it for my health. Thank you EVERYONE for sharing your stories. We can do this!

Hugs,
Tracey

Jann, Hope you see your birthday wishes........Happy Birthday!

Kim, You were up late last night! Hope you awake refreshed and energized! How's the weather down there? We are finally getting some rain today; hasn't rained in weeks.

Hi Carol, Laura, and Susan!!! And everybody else. Blessings for a successful, happy week. Oh, Carol, If ya have to 'binge' I think rib eye is a wonderful choice. Yummmmmmmm.

June, please don't be discouraged. Good things are worth waiting for. We're here to help each other stay in focus and on-plan. You always have been such an encouraging lady to me and I love ya for it. Slow and steady is so much better that up and add 'em.

Deb, I like frozen vegetables best too, but have no freezer space left. I used to use my Reynolds Handi Vac for preserving freezer stuff but they no longer manufacture the bags. Should have known such a good product would fail to continue. I've checked dozens of places online and they're gone.

Eliza, I'd not canned in over 17 years; maybe more like 20. But when the DD and her boyfriend lost their jobs, produce started falling in their laps. Well, in their boxes. Had to pick some of the apples and sweet corn and tomatoes. But you get the idea. We were blessed to get jars from Mom and I charged a bunch on my card. My kitchen is in disarray due to the fact that we kind of want to keep it all out until we're finished Bragging rights and pictures will be in order......

Tracey, I'm glad you have joined us. Congratulations on your losses so far. And blessings for continued success. Be sure to come back often and tell us good stuff. But don't hesitate if you have problems either. We're all here for each other.

Have a great and successful day, all! "See" ya later.

Good Morning!!

to Tracey

You are doing this for the right reason and
do your best to make it what you can do long term.

:Yes as Kim said, "we are honored you would post here with us"...

I weighed this morning and I am the same I will have to wait till next tuesday for another drop. I am not surprised...been this pattern so long now.

Tonight is "Biggest Loser on NBC" I do not like how Jillian screams in the faces of the competetors it is so demeaning. Some I know like that. I hate that.

I believe in a poke to get someones attention but this is like mititary humiliating screaming gosh Jillian do you do that at home too???

Deb love that scale quote from our dear Zer.

I also think that Jillian needs an attitude adjustment. But I'm sure she will continue blasting remarks because she sees success AND.......it's making her rich$$$$.

hi there Carol! how is our Princess doing???

yup i will be watching Biggest Loser tonight too but was really disappointed last week with the level of profanity from both trainers and that the show didn't bleep it out..it does come on at 8pm for goodness sake! just another example of how there is no shame left in America.....i understand a lot of foul language and harsh treatment has to go on to get obese people to move 6 hours a day My DH was in the military for 20 years! but for prime time tv to not only show it but focus in on it close up(Jillian and the bi atch word TWICE) is just plain unnecessary

ok ok rant over! back to what is important!! what has Emilee been up to lately??

I hate the profanity on early evening television. We don't have the t.v. on when the grandchildren are here. Unless it's one of their children's shows but they're not usually on after supper. So, we just play and read. Bliss.

Good morning beautiful pple Hope everyone is on plan and having a wonderful beginning of the day.

Tracey, I would like to give ya a big woooooohoooooooo on your weight loss and glad you are joining us. This is a great group of pple and they are always ready to help.

I only watch biggest losers first and last show. I don't really like the way it is done. I don't think its good for me or for children. I understand the dynamics. Just wish they would do it a bit differently. Just my opinion.

Hope all have a wonderful day. Lets make it low carb all the way

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome!

I have some questions about ketosis that I hope someone can help me with. It is my understanding that ketosis is a secondary process to lipolysis. If that is true, then:
1. Can you actually gain "mass"---not weight, but fat mass-- while you are in ketosis. By definition, this does not seem possible.
2. How can you be in ketosis and *not* be losing fat (again, not talking about weight fluctuations from water, muscle gain or loss etc.). Again, how would this be possible.
3. How can people on any diet lose fat if they are never in ketosis and if ketosis is a natural co-process with lipolysis?

I'm trying to sort all of this out in my head. I hope that wasn't too confusing!

That steak with the blue cheese sauce is calling my name this weekend! I have a graduate class on Tues. nights. I guess I'll be grabbing a cold pork chop out of the fridge.

I loaned out my Atkins plan book so I can't look it up either. Be sure you have a written plan. It will help so much. Sometimes, I just let it work and not try to figure out why. I'm sure those answers are in the book

I can answer #2
You can be in Ketosis and not lose if you are eating too much fat there is a famous story here on the boards when I first joined of a woman that started gaining a lot of weight while in Ketosis she was eating whole sticks of butter LOL
I was in Ketosis for the last month but was not losing now other things could have been going on but inches were not moving either.
It would be so nice if it was really the simple less calories move more stuff that gets preached

Hi folks

I'm just chugging along (slow as ever, but thankfully steady).

I vowed to stay off the scale for a week or so, and thank gosh it worked. I had been struggling on and off for several weeks gaining and losing the same 3-4 pounds. This morning I was finally down 3 pounds. It is a reminder that sometimes a mental break from daily weigh-ins can be good too.

I really have little to nothing to report. We are having gorgeous fall/summer weather here. I can't believe it's almost the end of September and we're still having 30 degree weather (90+For my American sweethearts). This is also excellent because my husband and I had a really rough summer financially. I am finding I can spend 3-4 hours a day at our local park in glorious sunshine with the girls and they couldn't be happier with my packed up lunch and the swings and monkey bars. Usually in the fall/winter I spend roughly $15-20.00 a day at our local community centre (swimming/gymboree/child minding fees while I swim etc.) So, this warm weather is also helping to curb expenses as well.

I haven't been posting or reading much of the posts either. I have no real excuse not to, I'm just finding myself occupied with other pursuits. I was also really busy the last few weeks. My husband has been working late several times the last few weeks and last weekend he had a "boys weekend" with his buddies in Seattle.

I love you all and admire our ability to not give up.

Susan

Deb I have never watched Biggest Loser because of the verbal abuse to these morbidly obese people who I think should be respected because they are coming out of their comfort zones to make an effort.

I actually record this program and watch it on Wed after breaky then with my own remote I flip out what I do not want to hear. I always pray blessings on my remote it puts me in the editting seat.

Emelie is growing at the time is flying clip. she's a delight.

here Cindy said she was so proud cause she climbed up on this bench by herself and that is pretty much her she is trying to do many things herself.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tracey I do not know if this will help but I lost 77 lbs in 2007 without ever once going into ketosis and I have diabetes 2. Insulin resistance. I take Metformin now but did not back then.
If I do not eat like a bird with close supervised selection on every ingredient I gain weight very easily because of the insulin resistance.
I think when one goes over three hundred we are in a not understood fronteir. Drs must keep researching.
On the subject of TV LAND
I see that they show many examples of people who eat like insane out of control mindless folk.
I have never eaten in that way ever at anytime in my life.
There are alot of people who eat well who have an awful time losing weight and they just do not show those cases leading the general public to think all fat people eat like ravenous wolves...I personally resent THAT!! It is not an accurate picture at all.
Oprah has been battling her weight for years she is one good example of someone who does not eat off the deep end and still has the daily battle with her weight. I will rant no more for today
Have a good day ladies I will keep on the straight and narrow and hope for a drop next Wed maoring when I watch Biggest Loser they do inspire somewhat
but not near as much as all you wonderful ladies
sorry the picture of Emelie is so large I lost my resize program.
Morning Ladies
Carol, lil Emelie is so adorable I just wanna reach up and hug her to pieces The picture is so cute. What a joy!!!
Susan, congrats on the lbs lost
Whole sticks of butter??? Was she cooking with it or having a stick for a snack? Your answer does give pause for thought tho. I think I am over doing on my fat levels. I use mayo in practically everything. Then when ya add in the cream. I am going to try and cut my levels and see if I can get on with doing what I need to do.........LOSE!!!!
Hi Ladies-
June, Carol and everyone else, please hang in there. Glad you saw a decrease Susan.
Deb thanks for letting us know about Zer. May she rest in peace.
Welcome Tracey.
I've been foundering again-rough time in some parts of my life so of course I turned on myself and used food to comfort. Carbs are cheaper than protein too so that doesn't help. Don't know WHY I keep doing this same pattern-it certainly doesn't solve the problem and simply adds more issues (like weight gain, being upset with myself and feeling bad for not eating the way I should, etc.)
I'm with ya June-can't imagine someone eating a whole stick of butter-maybe she was just cooking with it (hopefully).
I,too, find the biggest loser to be problematic. After the show is over, many, if not most people, gain the weight back. I always said if I had a personal chef, personal trainer and lots of free time, I'd be able to get fit and trim in a jiffy and maintain it longer too. I certainly don't feel that someone screaming obscenities in my face or making me work out until I threw up or had to be rushed to the hospital would work for me.
I've been volunteering and worked with a lady last night that made me realize I was probably working with someone who is living what my life might be like if I, too, make it to 80. Bless her heart, she could hardly get up, the staff didn't want to help her get a shower so they said it was up to me or she wouldn't get a shower (and she hadn't bathed in 2 days) and she had a real bad yeast infection/rash anywhere she had folds of skin. When the shower was over, she begged for some oxygen, it was so rough for her to just sit and be washed and move from the shower bench to a wheelchair. Made me realize I gotta get myself back on track.
Weightwise, I'm in a holding pattern-gaining and losing the same 3-4 pounds. However, it is 11am and I'm on track so far today. Going to have a ham steak and some eggs for my breakfast/lunch and then planning on a salad and beef pot roast for dinner.
That's all for me right now.
**hugs** to everyone and hope all goes well!
Hey June I also could not eat one stick of butta just thinking of that is making me cringe. I have eaten a 14 stick of nutta though not good I guess. I am cutting back on fats. I actually am also a mayo user
I use Hellmanns but my sis says down south where she lives in S Carolina
the mayo they love most is Duke's.
I would use two or three T to two cans drained Tuna or two Chicken breast diced
I find cellery diced and a tad onion helps me not miss the less mayo but
it is hard I do love Chicken or Tuna Salad with lettuce in a St Josephs flat bread roll up. Nice quick lunch.
Deb cut squrill who is the lady?
Laura God Bless you for your care. May I assume to suggest some unsolicited help here. I had some serious cellulitis in 2007 and having been a Cert Home health aide
I know what you faced with your lady. Did she have a prescription cream to kill the yeasts.
Also once washed well ... drying it is most important so the cream can adhere to the dry skin to form a barrier. I use this method with Silverdine cream by prescription only ... have not seen a rash in two years. Hope it helps.
Susan I think of you often with all the rest here it is fine do what you can do
I am hoping for change for us all
Morning Ladies
Carol, there is no contest........Hellmans is the bomb in mayo!!! I grew up with Duke and Blue Plate mayo, but once I had Hellmans its been no going back. I am a true southern gal too I eat too much mayo and I do try to cut back. Its just so funny, one person tells ya to increase your fat(hellmans is a great way) another tells you to cut your fat intake. I hve no problem cutting out butter and oils but I really wouldn't want to give up my Hellmans.
goes out to Laura, Sharon, Deb, Jann, Susan, workinhard and everyone else I missed. Hope you all have a great low carb day.
Deb thanks for letting us know about Zer. May she rest in peace.
Welcome Tracey.
I've been foundering again-rough time in some parts of my life so of course I turned on myself and used food to comfort. Carbs are cheaper than protein too so that doesn't help. Don't know WHY I keep doing this same pattern-it certainly doesn't solve the problem and simply adds more issues (like weight gain, being upset with myself and feeling bad for not eating the way I should, etc.)
I'm with ya June-can't imagine someone eating a whole stick of butter-maybe she was just cooking with it (hopefully).
I,too, find the biggest loser to be problematic. After the show is over, many, if not most people, gain the weight back. I always said if I had a personal chef, personal trainer and lots of free time, I'd be able to get fit and trim in a jiffy and maintain it longer too. I certainly don't feel that someone screaming obscenities in my face or making me work out until I threw up or had to be rushed to the hospital would work for me.
I've been volunteering and worked with a lady last night that made me realize I was probably working with someone who is living what my life might be like if I, too, make it to 80. Bless her heart, she could hardly get up, the staff didn't want to help her get a shower so they said it was up to me or she wouldn't get a shower (and she hadn't bathed in 2 days) and she had a real bad yeast infection/rash anywhere she had folds of skin. When the shower was over, she begged for some oxygen, it was so rough for her to just sit and be washed and move from the shower bench to a wheelchair. Made me realize I gotta get myself back on track.
Weightwise, I'm in a holding pattern-gaining and losing the same 3-4 pounds. However, it is 11am and I'm on track so far today. Going to have a ham steak and some eggs for my breakfast/lunch and then planning on a salad and beef pot roast for dinner.
That's all for me right now.
**hugs** to everyone and hope all goes well!
Laura, I think of you very often and always wonder how you're doing. We're always here for you. What can we do to help you through everything and get you on an even keel for improving your health????
None of us wants to end up in the condition of your patient, but if we do, I pray we have ladies like you to care for us. Thank you for doing this work.
Just try to be really, really strict with your way of eating for a week or two. You will find yourself feeling better and be more optimistic. We like to pat ourselves on the back. You can do this. I know you can. Persistance.
Hugs.
Low carb would be very hard without my mayo!!!
How are you all doing, Kim, Deb, June, Susan, Carol? Anybody else?
I've been moving around a bit more and can tell the difference. By bedtime, I can't walk but by morning, I'm ready to do it again. Hope it continues to get better and better. One step at a time
Have a fun Friday, all.
