Hello, everyone!
![]() I have been following this challenge for several months now, but Donna's post prompted me to reply. I have been on and off low carb for two years now, mostly on, but I still just eat too much! I have lost from 273lbs. down into the 240's where I have been for ages. I get so upset with myself for not doing better, but I do know that low carb is a woe that is healthier for us even without losing. What I really wanted to address is the water retention/swelling that Donna was asking about. For 8 weeks, my feet were so swollen that I had made an appointment with a podiatrist to see what was wrong. Everything that I had researched online was pretty grim. However, I did not have any other symptoms to go along with those grim possibilities. Finally, I found a thread from our own Low Carb Friends Forum that talked about swelling in the hands and feet after going off of low carb or just eating too many carbs. That is what I had done - I was out of control eating way too many carbs! I decided to get back on low carb, which I needed to do anyway, and within one day and a half, I could see an improvement! I cancelled that Dr's appt. as he would have put me through all kinds of tests, I am sure. My feet are fine now, but they were so swollen, I couldn't wear anything but flip-flops, and my feet hurt from being so tight. CarboHYDRATES really do fill you up with water, just as the name says! I would love to participate in your thread/challenge as I love the way everyone supports each other! ![]()

Yesterday was strange. I was hungry but nothing satisfied. I finally went to the recipe thread and searched. Found a no bake choc cookie and made it. It satisfied the craving. I know I ate too many, but that's life. At least they were low carb. It will take a few days to eat them up and then I will be back to a stricter program.
B- LC muffin L- stirfry S- LC frajitas Snack- chocolate no bake cookies (sort of like fudge) Linda- It is definately a process. My focus is getting healthy and forming new good habits. Getting control of my life again. For me that means housework, exercise, not procrastinating, cooking regularly (I used to eat lots of frozen pizza and the like). I have been working on this for several years and seen many improvements, but still have a long way to go. Glad you have joined the group. We can take this journey together. Agnes- Sometimes you just have to eat those things to find out that they don't taste as good as you remember. You will be fine as long as you you get right back to your plan. Donna- I feel for you. I puff up really quick from lots of different things. If you like brocolli eat a big helping steamed. It always helps me to flush excess fluid. LaRae- Stop lurking and start posting. By the way, do we post a monthly weight loss to see if we make that 100 pounds in 2009 as a group??? Love and LC kisses to all of you Halo (Sally) Last edited by halos; 07-23-2009 at 10:39 AM.. |

Sally, I'm not opposed to posting monthly weight loss, when I have something to report. I think the original goal of this thread was for each of us to lose 100 pounds this year. But personally, my weight loss has stalled. I lost most of my weight in the first six months but this year it's been difficult. Posting our group totals for this year may be encouraging!

Hello everyone
Checking in to see how everyone is doing this afternoon..It has really brightened my day to know I can come and visit with you all. cuelgirl Dang..don't you just hate yourself when you do things like that? but hey...I am sure we all can say that we have been there and done that..so try not to beat yourself up too much and remember to just get back to what you were trying to achieve. Like you said... live and learn i guess... to me this is very important.I look at my weight loss journey as a process.I have always told myself.."I want to be a specific number" but I have come to realize..that ..."that magic number that is suppose to make things right" is not what it is all about...for me It is the learning process and skills along my way that is going to keep me at my goal when I get there! All of those potholes and detours "learning lessons" I will gather and benefit from..and when I get there..I will be able to maintain ![]() so hang in there my friend...and just proceed on down the road sherlocklabs You are quiet welcome...that is why I so love having friends to chat with...YOU all have so much insight that can help me..I enjoy so much the support that is given on a daily basis..We all need support and encouragement..and like you I have come to realize this will be a lifetime deal for me and that I or no one is perfect..we have to learn to balance our lives and our foods to where they will be in the best benefit for us. That doesn't mean that on ocassion we don't indulge otherwise..but with a steady, persistant attitude...we will be molding and shaping ourselves towards heathier beings By the way..you too are doing a fantastic job with your journey. ![]() donnagail I love your name like that.. I am like you too..if I go off plan...boy do I ever gain! My old body just does not like the carbs..I honestly think I have an allergy to them because they sure make me creaky and achey when I indulge..about your swelling...don't know what it could be..maybe you could try a process of elimination...You take meds..so that should help..do you drink enough water? do you eat alot of processd meats, cheeses? hidden salt in foods, spices, condiments? What about diet drinks? like crystal light, sodas?Sometimes these things will effect my body too. Don't give up..I am sure you will figure out the culprit... ![]() Hi LaRae I'm a newbie here too..so glad to meet ya...welcome I am with you on this being the WOE...as much as I try to resist it..I know it is as it should be..because when I am not on it..this old bod has aches and pains ...hang in there...keep moving along and it has to start moving in the direction you want to go.. Sally I am so with you on this journey!! Looks like you are off to a good start! It sounds like you are on the right track also..with getting things in order and control...like you said.."getting healthy and forming new habits" for me is what is going to keep me at my new weight when I get there So I am looking forward to you being there with me along this journey moonius aww you are welcome my friend..YOU to me sound very positive from what I have read in posts..I loved your pic of the sunrise! I believe that we gather what we think..so I am trying to keep my thoughts and actions positive! There are the negatives..but I try to work thru them..to make them positive.. I laughed at your chicken and pepper the other night..lol sounds like something that would happen to me..if there is a next time..just double or tripple your recipe...and maybe your ears won't sweat ![]() make a positive from the negative..just like you did..thanks for sharing and bringing a smile to me that day ![]()

![]() Agnes: I didn't mean to go on-and-on...but I'm sooo glad you understood the point I was trying to get across. We are only human....and the indulgances will (or most probably will) happen. And...for goodness sakes...why not?!? Life is way too short ~~ indulgances are things that we need to get a 'handle' on...enjoy in moderation and move on. Our overall WOE is what will keep our weight down and keep us healthier. Quite honestly....I think that once a person gets that perspective...they are more apt to maintain this WOE....as opposed to going OP, feeling guilty, and then not getting back on track...ya know. AwakeningHeart: Love your attitude and perspective on things!! ![]() Now with ALL that said....I do have a confession...I, myself, have been battling the "This just isn't worth it" attitude this past week. The stall in weight loss has really gotten my discouraged....I just can't understand why I am having such problems losing this time around I've been battling in my mind every day....I'm treating it like a recovering alcoholic would...JUST ONE DAY AT A TIME. I've decided, as I told DH this morning, that I'm going to 'DROP BACK AND PUNT' starting tomorrow ~~ going back to INDUCTION for the next 2 weeks...and from there I am going to find the items that stall me out. I too, believe that I have a VERY low tolerance for carbs...and must keep them REALLY LOW in order to keep losing. I sure hope everyone has a great LC day.

Hi everyone...its my favorite day of the week!
![]() Denise, when I bounce up on the scale for whatever reason, I go back on strict induction and follow to the letter and then start adding adn getting back to where I was carb wise. Even now, I will do a day or two of a meat/egg fast after a day that I have eaten too many legal LC items. Moonius...you are so right! This woe is most importantly about good health. The weight loss (if you have it) is just a bonus on top of that. Agnes, glad to see you posting again. There is NO WAY you gained that many "real" lbs! Its all water weight and your body will release it. Have a great LC weekend.............

Thanks Moonius and Peggy
....I know you are both ABSOLUTELY right ~~ and I think, that is probably the main reason that I've been winning the battle...because, down deep I know I am healthier ~~ no matter what the scale says. I compare how quickly I've lost in the past...to now...and I'm absolutely baffled ~~ and then, of course, discouraged. This whole mindset may be in conjunction with the quitting smoking ~~ perhaps I'm just mentally 'outta whack' due to the nicotine withdrawal... ~~ BUT, on the brighter side...I'm standing firm....No cigs since 4th of July! So...though my road is a little more bumpy than usual ~~~ I just take a deep breath...and go over each bump One At A Time! ![]() Thanks everyone...as always, you say the right things. I almost didn't log on today ~~ that "stinkin' thinkin'" voice was talkin' to me..saying 'don't bother...its not worth it' ~~ but thank goodness, my other side REALLY enjoys this group of folks...and I love cheerin' y'all on I realize that we are all in the same boat....and taking this journey with friends a WHOLE lot EASIER than going it alone! |

HAPPY WEEKEND EVERYONE!!
![]() ![]() ![]() I hope everyone has a marvelous weekend planned! so enjoy yourselves agnes congrats on the weight loss...I know you have to be relieved that once again it is in a downward spiral..like the others...I too..think it is water retention..so hang in there... denise oh I can feel your pain ..but let me say "Yes...it is so worth it!" (I hope you all don't think I am trying to get any attention here from my yammering..but I would like to explain why I say this..my appology for yapping beforehand) In Jan....I had decided that all my years of saying, wanting, trying and still being morbidly obese was going to stop this year..I made myself a promise that I would start this year out getting my health back and my life back.. I had wasted so much of my life wishing, wanting and not making it truly happen. I have had a lot of health probs over the last several years..most steming from the fact that I am morbidly obese and have been for nearly 28 years. From being obese came...high b/p, a thyroid prob, diabetes..from those came a heart attack 2 years ago, and I have spent time in the hospital 4 times in the last 3 years. This year..I said "enough"..I was going to take control and do what I could to improve my health and quality of life..I also have fibromyalgia In January I was diagnosed with cancer..it took me til april of this year to even get healthy enough before I could go thru the surgery I needed.. so I can honestly tell you.. YES!!..YOUR life is worth every effort you put towards making yourself healthier and to improving the quality of life before you. So don't give up my friend.. some days are gonna be harder than others..that's just the way life is..but for me.. I realize my precious gift of life...I no longer want to just exist and not to be a part of what is going on around me, to see each day, year go by unhealthier..I decided...it is within my power to some degree to have a better quality than I have allowed myself in latter years..I am learning to love myself enough to care enough ..to take better care of myself ..I know that I have to be active in my choices of where I want to be in the future..and to work towards them..even with the bumps in the road.. I may be slow..like a turtle..but I will be steady and eventually I will arrive to my destination..a healthier person You will figure this out..what works for you.. You can do this..like you say...one day at a time..have faith in yourself as you have faith and care and love for those around you.. ![]() sally can ya come do my floors?? I would love to see them all shiney and waxed!! ![]() Happy Weekend everyone!! Live, Love and Be Happy!! Last edited by awakeningheart; 07-25-2009 at 12:15 AM.. |

Wow, I had a fun day today! Dodge City Days kicked off on Thursday and continues through August 2nd. They wrap up with the PRCA rodeo championships next week. The radio station got free lapel pins for all the events and free rodeo tickets. Today was the 19th ANNUAL BARBECUE CONTEST at Wright Park. For only 3 bucks you could sample some of the best BBQ in the country. Everything from chicken to pulled pork and pork ribs, beef brisket and beef ribs! It was a low carbers delight. They even had live music. It got up to 100 degrees but with the typical Kansas breeze even the heat felt pretty good! Hope y'all have a super LC Saturday!

I finished my kitchen today. Almost got side tracked. When I took the panels off the stove and refridgerater and saw what had accumulated under there I nearly gagged. DH said "Do the floor and next week we will start a thorough cleaning." So he is going to help me move the fridge out and the like. I Shudder to think what is under the sink.
Donna- I have a scrubber with spinning brushes that does a great job on everything but the edges. Those I have to do on my knees. Once I get down it's hard to get back up. LOL. Center Hill Dam is 12 miles from my house (on the back roads). Moonius- I would have loved that BBQ. Rodeo sounds like fun too. Linda- I feel so much better when I get things clean. I am not a good housekeeper, so when the urge hits I dive in. We live on a farm so the floors always need work. Denise- Don't get discouraged. I maintained for a year on WW (on my own). That is why I have come back to low carb. Quiting is not an option, changing plans is. You are doing so much good for your body by quiting smoking. If I can get my mind set I would like to quit too. We can do this...the WOE and the non-smoking. I am here for you. Peggy- I have eaten mostly meat for 2 days and am finally showing ketosis (more than a trace. I guess I need to do a couple of days like this every week to keep the scale moving in the right direction. Agnes- Hope you have recouped from your vacation. B- muffin L- small salad , ground chuck S-Ground chuck Snack- 1 oz cheese, 7 strawberries 1644 calories/21 carbs Sally |

....I just need that swift kick in the behind to remind me Thank you!I started this serious journey after my son was born. I realized that I really needed to love myself...and start getting healthy if I wanted to be around to see my son grow up. I've battled weight my whole life....but when I realized that I was unable to kneel down on the floor to give my son a bath ~~ I realized that enough was enough....and it was time for me to start treating my body like a temple...instead of a garbage disposal ![]() Thank you awakening heart... ...you are the best!Quote:
We went to a rodeo on Friday evening....what FUN it was! We really enjoyed ourselves...and ds got the cowboy hat that he has been wanting. We sat in the drizzle for the first half...and decided to head home after intermission ~~ I really wish we could have stayed longer...but the rain was getting harder...and we had a hour+ ride home. You sound like me...I've got the down and dirty cleaning to do in the kitchen....every weekend seems to have something going on *sigh* I've got my 'to do' list started.....getting under the stove and refrigerator is one of them ( I too shudder at the thought)...I've GOT to spend an afternoon making soap....we are getting low PLUS I make extra for gifts at Christmas....so I really need to get in gear and start that. Thank you....I can't tell you how much I appreciate your support The smoking gets easier every day...and just when I think I've licked it....I get huge cravings....usually for something really sweet or sinful (isn't that aweful! My sweet tooth has really intensified since I quit )...I chew a LOT of gum...hoping to keep the cravings down to a minimum....Oh...your comment to Peggy....about eating meat for 2 days...and doing every week....Ya Know ~~ that sounds like a really good suggestion....I may give that a try too. I was comparing what I eat currently to the Atkins Induction 'acceptable food' list...and quite frankly...other that a few things...that is pretty much what I eat on a daily basis.... hmmmm... so the 2 days of meat only is worth a shot... I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. I wrote yesterday...a long reply (like this one)...and it disappeared (I think I hit the wrong key on my keyboard in error )...I didn't have time to write another....so that I why I was MIA yesterday.Have a great LC day everyone!! ~~ I chalk it up as this: I myself peek in from time to time...during the week it is from work...so needless to say my peeks are kept short Weekends, are for family and chores...but I try to peek in when time allows (or a break is needed ). I try to answer or address everyone...but I'm sure I miss some too (especially if I haven't peeked in all weekend...and I am playing catch up at work ). Sometimes things get missed OR (in my case this has happened a couple of times) I do respond...hit a wrong key or whatever...and it all DISAPPEARS Oh that burns me...and sometimes I just don't have the time to re-type everything...tell myself I'll do it later...and guess what...later never comes. I take the FlyLady approach...and just jump in and start versus panicing and stressing over getting caught up ![]() Please don't take it personal I'm am sure that it was not intentional to not reply to your post (I know it wasn't by me)...Please reconsider converting back to a lurker....as you can see...it is a FANTASTIC supportive group...I for one am very thankful that they are here for me (as you can see in the previous posts from the last couple of days) |

HAPPY MONDAY EVERYONE!!
Well, I do hope everyone has a great day today...today being workday monday for most..Even after you all sounded like you had a wonderful weekend doing different things... that is except Sally she cleaned her floors all weekend...which now..we are all gonna be so envious of..them being clean and waxed shiney! ![]() Everyone just keep on moving..and doing...it is so important.. Every so often, I think I have to do some reflecting about some things to get a proper perspective of what i have accomplished and what I am trying to achieve with my weight and health goals.. I tend to forget just how far I have come sometimes Today I am going to think about the word "CHANGE" I am going to think about the change about where I was in the past really looking at how things were...with my food/exercise, even my outlook and attitude with life and myself.. then I am going to think about the change of today of how things are today...of the positive changes that I see that is evident now...with each choice I make today that was so hard in the past for me then I am going to think about the change for the future I want to visualize/see, recognize that all the change that has came about from the past and today...is really going to pay off for my hopes and dreams for my future I can just picture them all!! Can't you? Spend some time and think.. VISULAIZE YOUR CHANGE I won't beat myself up for what is past, I will do my best with what I have become today, and my future will be molded and shaped because of all of these CHANGES! HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY TODAY MY FRIENDS ![]() Last edited by awakeningheart; 07-27-2009 at 02:15 AM.. |

Happy Monday everyone!
I had such a wonderful, but busy weekend and am sad that it is over! I am not loving the hot and humid weather we are having now. Bring back 70's and DRY! Blech! I had about 10 friends over yesterday and made it a completely LC feast and everyone raved about the food. LOL! I ate *too much*, but it was all on plan and if this is going to be a woe for life...this will happen and I am back to normal sized portions, etc. but I am retaining water big time and am up 2 lbs....too many carbs and cheese! Thats OK tho...I can see the puffiness and know it is water weight and it will be gone soon. Such a different mindset! So, I am down 3 lbs this week instead of 5. I can deal with that!! LaRae, sorry for not answering you. I am often on the board at work and usually do a drive by and don't address everyone. I feel your pain on the water retention! Literally! My feet are swollen this am and are tight. I can see the water retention in them. Of course, they are better than they would be when I was much heavier, but still! One thing you can try is to google veggies that have a diuretic effect. I know asparagus is one. Also, try lemon juice in water in the AM. That helps too. My feet have gotten so thin and I can usually see the bones and veins...so I knew I was in trouble before I even got on the scale. Hope this helps! Thats it for now. I am plugging away and I had a nice compliment this weekend. I was at a show and a friend saw me from a distance and had no idea it was me. LOL! I thought that was so cool! Anyway....be well my 100 lbs in 2009 challenge friends. Check in peeps that have not lately...and YOU know who you are! ![]() |

I had a great time at the BBQ contest Saturday. I had to sample everything, so I ended up eating too much!
![]() I didn't want to jinx it so I haven't mentioned that I've been exercising for the last 3 days. I hope to extend that into 3 weeks so that it becomes a habit. I've been doing weights and floor exercises. I will add cardio today. Hope y'all have a magnificent LC Monday! |

Well I managed to exercise again last night. I'm beginning to develop a routine. I think it's helping me to sleep better too.
Dodge City Days continues here in SW Kansas. Tonight is Family Burger Night/Media Night. It's where people bring their families to get free burgers, served to them by members of the media (that would include me)! Folks get to meet their favorite TV and Radio celebrities tonight (I think I have at least one fan). Anyway, it should be fun, a chance to meet and greet our listeners and of course I'll get some free burgers! Hope y'all have a tremendous LC Tuesday! |

Morning everyone! Hope everyone's weeks are going well. I am hiding in the AC comfort of work and home. I don't mind 90 degree heat, but the humidity just melts me. Not my idea of a good time! lol
Sandra? Agnes?? Where are you two? Come out of hiding!! We miss you. |

Hello Again!
Sally: Wow....I wish my DH would do things like that! Well...he does try to help out the best he can ~~ that is all one can ask! Hope your sunburn feels better soon (oweeee). Moonius: Great job with the exercise! You sure are gettin' into a groove! Have fun with your fans tonight....sounds like a lot of fun! Peggy: I'm with you....the humidy melts me too!! Yuck! Nothin' worse that gettin' out of the shower...and sweating! Blech! We haven't even put our air conditioners in the house yet!!! Haven't needed them until the last couple of days ~~ the nights have still been bareable ... cooler evening with the ceiling fan has been enough to keep the comfort level in the 'okay' range for sleeping (thank goodness). Yesterday's menu: b: microwave scrambled eggs with a little butter s: Atkins strawberry shake (these are quite yummy...expensive...but it seems to satisfy the sweet tooth I've had since quitting smoking) l: leftover bbq chicken d: bbq sausages with a slice of provalone over them, steamed green beans, green salad with ceasar dressing, unsweetened almond breeze with a drop of stevia |

Hello my friends..
Sounds like you ALL are moving right along and staying pretty busy!! Hey that works!! Burning those fat calories ![]() Keep those bodies moving!! Can sweating count as burning calories too?? I don't see why not...it is water going out huh? ![]() I am in the process of canning some veggies right now..haven't done any in years..so for now..it is quiet a job with all the preparing, preping and canning (seems all come in at the same time)..but so worth it in the end..I love eating those that are home canned...a lot better taste to me too! And..at least some of the salt and sugar content can be controled for me too ![]() I do rather enjoy it too as long as I can do it at my own pace.. Tomorrow..or should I say today now is.. Hump day...Wednesday....Just think... we are on the downside of another week..so everyone.. Keep your goals and dreams alive and do the best you can... ![]() Ciao Last edited by awakeningheart; 07-28-2009 at 11:41 PM.. |
