G'day, Ruth. Love hearing about Alaska - a lot different from what we think it is like. Rain forest? Amazing!

Hey y'all. I'm on my way upstairs to clean the bedrooms. I got a call from DH earlier today - he leaves Camp Liberty in 3 days!!! He should be home the 16th or 17th - he'll be in Kuwait till he gets a flight out - whoo hoo, less than a week! xxxxcrossing fingersxxxx Anyway...

Ruth, I get really tired in the summer too - doesn't matter what i'm doing. The heat just sucks the energy out of ya. You've been doing awesome with your walking - don't sweat the small stuff and do what you can.

Bill, the mangasizer thing sounds really cool. Great job on finding something that you will be able to do from your chair. I'm sure the weight will now fly off your body and you'll feel so much better from the extra movement.

Jean, sorry about the campground thing - seems like everywhere is tacking on extra fees whereever/whenever they can. Maybe there's a private campground around that doesn't make you have reservations? My stepmom said that the private campgrounds around her are now cheaper than the state one's because people are just not doing as much recreational stuff due to the economy and the private campgrounds desperately need the business.

Deb, most monster-in-laws suck. I'm sorry yours is being such a pill. I have the opposite problem - my mil loves me and wants to spend a lot of time with us (we're the only one's with kids). My husband is the favorite (which he hates!) and is treated like the proverbial prodigal son whenever we go to visit. Leroy is a very unassuming guy and doesn't like the extra attention (or the resentment that comes from his 2 brothers!). Beyond ignoring the behavior I don't know what to suggest - it sucks from the other side too. At least you'll know the behavior NOT to emulate towards your new DIL. Good luck!

Gotta share: I won't record an "official" weight till tomorrow but I saw 338 this morning on the scale - finally some downward movement! Lets just pray that it holds till tomorrow!

and identifying them with a book from the library good good memories

i will try to be a better MIL.. already i share all my pictures i have with her(DIL)! probably more than she wants me too!! and i know i ain't gonna miss out on my grandchildren growing up the way Roseanna has selfish she is

Lucky I tried it already for about 15 minutes I like it. This particular one has some weight to it 18 pounds so its pretty stable. If you get it you may have to get a small rubber mat to keep it from walking. My wife got a small rubber mat from a local dollar store that works perfectly. I would recommend this piece of equipment.

Here's hoping y'all have a healthy LC day today! Drink plenty of water too!

Good morning Zer. I'm glad to see that your sister works so hard to get along with her daughter's partner - I hope i'm able to remember to be fair and unjudgemental when it comes to my own children's choices. I don't have to like them - its enough that they do. Hopefully I will have raised them to make good choices for life partners.

I'll keep my eyes open for a bird book - I think I saw one at the local thrift store yesterday. I'll check it out later (the store's in my town about 3 blocks away) for you.

Its got to be so hard to have to pick your way thru meals prepared by others. I'm proud of you for doing your best. Keep up the good work!

This is my favorite kind of coleslaw. Its the one we got as kids. I don't remember the carb count for the whole recipe. All I know is a good healthy cup and a half is only about 6 carbs.

FREEZER SLAW*
1 c. vinegar
1/4 c. water
2 c. sugar/or equivilant sugar substitute
1 tsp. mustard seed
1 tsp. celery seed
1 tsp. salt
1 med. head cabbage, shredded
1 carrot, grated
1 green pepper, shredded

Shred cabbage and sprinkle with one tsp salt. Mix well and let stand while making dressing (one hour).

Bring to boil: vinegar, water, sugar/equivilant sugar sub, mustard, and celery seed. Boil for one minute. Remove from stove and let cool.

Squeeze excess moisture from cabbage. Mix in other vegetables. Pour cooled dressing over slaw. Mix and put in freezer containers and freeze. Yields 3 pints. Slaw can be refrigerated for use without freezing.

My DW will drain and reserve as much liquid from the finished product as possible then divides the slaw evenly in vacuum seal bags. Then redistributes the liquid evenly among the bags. Freezes then vacuum seals. This adds about 3 or more months to the recommened 3 month limit.

My MIL "was" pretty selfish. The day of my husband's accident all she did was complain about her arthritis, and how it was a big deal for her to sit in the hospital chair (a very nice one). Everytime someone asked me how I was doing, she'd start up with her ACHY BONES. Grrr. She also refused to allow Ron lifesaving surgery, but fortunately it wasn't her choice.

They plotted to get him out of my care and into a nursing home, and when we called them on it - Ron was in a coma and I WARNED THEM he could probably hear everything they said, but they plotted right in front of him while I was gone, I fought it, they slandered me, etc. Then Ron said he didn't want any contact if they couldn't treat me with respect due his wife. They disowned us. I think they were happy to get rid of any responsibility to him.

Ron decided, based on that and many other issues, after MANY attempts at patching up, "Let's all put the past behind us..." and getting the finger again and again, to treat them as if they had died the day of the accident. Terrible accident, took out all my inlaws.

Such a RELIEF! They had promised to help care for Ron, and told me 12 hours before his discharge I was on my own. God took care of us, and I thank Him every day that I'm not "beholden" to them. They would have never let me forget "We got Ron a glass of water, YOU OWE US!".

Now, all that depressing business over with, I am crawling out of the nasty depression-hole. Pretty soon I'll be as happy as a lark, flitting around. I can't wait for it.

I see it as the big blessing of Bipolar disorder, the mood, whatever it is, will only last a couple of weeks for me (everyone's different). Good!

Tomorrow fun stuff for me, work in the garden. We have 2 growing seasons and the fall season starts in late August. Plenty of time to work some manure and woodchips into the garden beds, prepping them for fall crops!

Due to "outside cat" issues I do not grow root crops, I plan to get some stuff like kale, collards, and broccoli started at least. I feel like a loser admitting this, but it's a lot easier for me to buy my lettuce than to try and grow it! Same with squash, I have to BUY mine!

I also have a big sack (literally) of the cutesy little Christian romance novels I love, so maybe a nice cool bath with a romance novel after I'm done in the garden.

Heather it never ceases to amaze me how ruthless and unkind relatives can be. The decision to treat them as deceased was probably the best way to handle the situation. Its their loss not you or your DH's.

As for cat problem. Here's two methods that work. With my choice being the second.

Planting some smelly plants around the edge of your garden. Cats hate strong smells on their fur and will avoid any place where they could get bad odors transferred on them.

The best and most immediate solution I've run across is to put stakes around the perimeter of your garden. Take some heavy cord and secure to the top of each stake running from one stake to the other. It doesn't have to be very high. Just high enough so that a teabag suspended from the cord would be about nose level to a cat. Collect as many used teabags as you can from your own use, neighbors and kin. Tie these teabags so they hang from the cord around your garden. Put a few drops of eucalyptus oil on the each tea bag. This is a method my DW and I used with great success. Periodically replenish each teabag with a few drops of the eucalyptus oil. .

Hope you get a chance to try it. Happy gardening to you.

I'm just doing my evening check in - i'm going to bed early tonight - wading thru stinky children's rooms has worn me out. hehe

I was good foodwise - too busy to eat.

B: couple bites of cold chicken breast
L: chicken breast dipped in salsa
D: mushroom quiche, couple slices of roastbeef, broccoli w/ shredded cheese, berries w/ h.m. whipped cream
H2O: not too good - I think I drank at least 2 big (32 oz.) cups but I don't think much more

Anyway, hope everyone else's day went well. Talk at ya tomorrow. 'night!

im done with a busy day...got the house straightened up, dinner cooked, served and cleaned up, dishwasher going...took toddler and my friend who doesnt have transportation to the store, bathed toddler, brushed teeth and off to bed for him...took older son out to meet up with a friend to stay the night with them...came home and went for a BRISK walk on a new route...was a nice cool night, no bugs, and i'm gonna call it two miles, the length seemed right but the time was shorter, possibly because i was walking brisker than usual(?)...so im gonna call it good at two miles...going to bed soon nite all
