From Centuries, to Decades and on to Goal--2009 part 2

This is a challenge for anyone who has lost a large amount of weight and now is experiencing some of the unexpected or undesired obstacles we can encounter during the final phases of weight loss.

*Do you have fears/doubts about keeping the weight off?
*Do people treat you differently, even unkindly, since losing weight?
*Do you have problems seeing the new you in the mirror?
*Do you find yourself sabataging your own efforts?
*Do you ever feel that as you are finding yourself under all the fat that maybe you are losing something too?
*Basically, are there things going on as you get closer to goal--the thing you have worked so hard for--that just aren't all they were cracked up to be?

If any of the above applies to you--come on in and hang out for awhile! This is a place where we can vent, compare notes, get suggestions for how to deal with some of these obstacles and just feel free to express ourselves--AND--ultimately not feel so alone in this thing!

Previous thread.

From Centuries, To Decades, And On To Goal--2009 Edition!

Just a matter of hours and the first half of 2009 is over. I'm not sure if I'm disappointed, or glad to put it behind me and move on (with a few new lessons learned I hope)! Either way, doesn't matter cause time marches on whether I like it or not!

Morning! Happy 1st day of July, Happy Beginning of the Second Half of the Year, Happy Canada Day Val, and Happy Hump Day!

The hotties are in the house for your viewing pleasure---viewing I said --no touching !

weight--150.6 down .4. Didn't quite make the 40's by July but sometime this month I'll get there. I just need to stay off the scale because I know I am getting to point where I usually start sabataging when I don't like what the scale says.

My calendar is 'almost free' of meetings today so I'm hoping to get caught up on tons of little (and not so little) tasks! It's another beautiful day out so maybe I'll get in a lunch time walk outside.

Good Morning Girls

Teresa~ WTG on the weightloss! I think I am going to start staying off the scale between weigh-ins also.

My weight was the same as it was Friday....just out of curiosity I am going to weigh on Friday....TOM should be gone.

Happy Canada Day to my American friends!

I am having a great day, with the exception of my weigh in this morning. 167.2. Bah, only down .2 from last week, and I actually saw some 166 & 165 numbers on the scale earlier this week, so it's water retention playing games with me, I think. I *did* hit my calorie target for the week (by undereating yesterday, but I overate Sunday, so while it's not ideal, it's okay, I won't be undereating regularly). I'm planning for a calorie target this week that would give me a 1.5 lb loss if the calories in/calories out equation was perfect. We'll see what happens.

In better news, I ran my Canada Day 5k race this morning and absolutely *smoked* it! I had a personal best time of 26:35 minutes. My previous best had been 27:09, so it was a great improvement. I'm very happy. Surprised, but happy. I didn't think I'd have a good race, but I did.

However, now I need a nap! LOL!

Val--awesome on the 5k--good for you!!! So what did you end up doing after the race as far as eating goes? Hopefully whatever it was it worked out!

I'm not a total believer in the cals in/cals out thing.... For the last several weeks I have been cutting enough cals to equal a little over a pound loss per week but only 1 week did I hit it. I suppose it might average out over the long haul and maybe TOM and/or cycles are a factor though...don't know. I have been not eating breakfast to cut the cals because reducing them just doesn't work for me, I get way more hungry that way. Maybe for me it's true that I need something in the morning to get the metabolism going?? Not sure. Anyway, just a little ramble because I've been thinking a lot about that whole cals in/out thing.

Kathy--I think I'd look at the scale on Friday too, got to know your birthday weight! But then again....if it's not what you want hopefully it doesn't spoil your day at all.

Lisa--yep, half over. Less than 6 months until Christmas--yikes! So much to do and so little time to do it. My parents always told me the day would come when time would go by toooooo fast--I just never understood that concept until I started experiencing it for myself! Darn getting old sucks sometimes!

Just realized that I updated my stats wrong, should be 150.6 not 150.4.....wishful thinking I guess!

I'm not so sure about the exactness of the calories in/out thing, but I feel confident knowing that at least while I'm eating this many that I'm losing something. The water bounces with going on & off a strict low-carb are definitely a confounding factor. I vary between very low carb days, moderate and then like Sunday, and overeating day which is high carb. I'm not sure I'll ever know if it's working right.

Speaking of how calories play into this whole thing--has anyone ever done a reverse type diet? Biggest meal in morning then getting smaller through the day? I know I do really well when I eat a large breakfast---I'm wondering if I went even larger with breakfast and lunch then small with dinner if that would create different results even with the same macros. My only concern (for me) is if a smaller dinner would end up being like a smaller breakfast is--which just makes me hungrier..... Something I think I might try out sometime soon. Just want to get down a little further before I play around with it because I'm afraid I would just end up having a big dinner on top of it all while trying to get used to it.

I've never tried a reverse diet, I don't think it would work for me because I find I need to have more calories in the evening or I feel deprived, it's that unstructured time that turns into eating more for me. But you have said you find the opposite, easier to eat less on weekends with more unstructured time. It might work for you.

I like that avi, only I wish I looked prettier in it
I just went and got my new driver's license today....I don't like the pic....I am stuck with it for 6 years!!! I had them change the weight to 160.....just a little fib......if I am still within a 10lb radius of 160 in 6 years I will be a happy girl!!

Vee~ What a great time on the 5k!!!!! My big problem is not having alot of motivation to go faster. I can not get anyone around me motivated to walk with me, let alone jog! I just basically finished the c25k program and jogged 5k about 10 times and then did the 5.5k and quit doing anything
I have let my recently busy life take over.......

As long as I keep my eating under control I think the athlete in me will come back out to play

Good Morning Girls

I am getting ready to go spend the morning fishing with the family. Spencer spent the night with my sister and she is coming out to go fishing this morning. I did weigh myself this morning and it was a little better....we'll see what it says tomorrow.

Morning--it's Thursday!!

Kathy--if I were you I would have put 150 on there--I think most people are probably off by at least 15-20 lbs! Heck, mine used to be off by about 100. For the first time in my life I weigh less than what it says.

I finished the c25k, still not feeling it but I think I will look for a 5k for this fall and see if that motivates me to keep with it. In the mean time my tentative plan is 2 days HIIT and 2 days jogging and on the jogging days I plan to do 10 minutes of some kind of light strength training. I may have to build some kind of reward system for myself for exercising because I just suck at sticking with it! The funny thing is the few times during this journey that I really got into exercise and seemed to be making it a habit I then had surgery and had to quit....then never really got back in the swing of it. If I have surgery this fall/winter I'm scared it will be the same thing. My 'lazy brain' says don't bother--you know you'll never get back to it after surgery so don't waste your time. So I'm trying to convince myself that even if it only lasts for a few months it's better than nothing and I'll deal with getting back at it after surgery when the time comes. But my lazy brain can be very convincing!

Teresa - And being in the best shape you can be before surgery will help improve recovery and make it easier!

I jumped on the scale this morning, too, and wished it was Wednesday not Thursday. I'm down to 165.4 this morning! That's 1.8 lbs less than yesterday! Damn water. That's okay, I'll just post a wicked loss for next week. I hope. Now I'm afraid I jinxed myself. 165.0 is my next big goal. I've only been below it a few times and never for very long, I *so* want to get below it now and stay there finally.

Lisa--I want one of those chairs! It's a little exerciser and amusement park ride all in one. However, working in one of those....ummm, no way!

Val--yeah, exercise and healthy eating have probably majorly contributed to my having little to no problems after surgery so perhaps if I look at it for that reason only it will get me to stay with it....and I'll deal with whatever happens after surgery when I get there.

Congrats on the whoosh! You are going to a new low very soon!!

Val---when is your Birthday?

I gave in and tried the RS buttercream caramels. Very good. Thank God there are only 6 in a bag--and no, I didn't eat all 6 thankfully but it was tempting!

Have a great day everyone.

Teresa~ Thanks for the birthday wishes Tonight is the fireworks at the lake, so we are having a cookout at my parents house across the lake from my house. We will all load up on boats and go out and watch the fireworks on the water. The only sweets that are going to be there are brownies and a fruit tray. I am making a veggie tray so I will have something legal to eat with my burger. If my Kroger had the spicy sweet potato chips that would be my treat but they don't I might make myself some of the microwave ones.

I weighed myself and it said 164.6......I'm still up about 10 pounds from where I was hanging out at a few months ago......I will get there again. I will wait until Wed to change my stats.

Happy Friday.....I added the new Friday hottie for everyones viewing pleasure

I like the Friday hottie. I want to grab him by the bandana.

Happy Birthday, Kathy!

Hope you have a great day. A cookout with family sounds perfect.

My birthday is coming up soon, actually, July 16th. I'll be 45. Ugh. I'm running a 5k race that day, too. It just happens to be the goal race for my Learn to Run clinic I'm leading, so I'm kind of hoping I can set a new personal best again on my birthday.

There is a race result on my "record" that isn't mine. I couldn't do a race one time, and it was a special sold out women's only race, so I gave my bib to my co-worker's daughter so they could run together. Little bugger is faster than me, and she got a 26:32 time. So now, under my name, there is that time as my personal best. So, I need to beat it so that my personal best is really my own. I came close on the Canada Day race, I got 26:38, but I was just a little short. Darn. Anyway, I'm crossing my fingers I can do it July 16th, it's a flat, fast course, so I'm hopeful.

Weight was still 165.4 this morning, so that's good. I'm waiting with bated breath to get below 165. It's my next goal. Maybe tomorrow. But I shouldn't count it until the official weigh in day of next Wednesday anyway.

I *think* I just managed to finagle Fridays off for the summer at work! Whee!!! A combination of vacation days and a couple 'free' days off offered by the company because we are slow this summer. I hope it works out.

I'm hungry. I worry about these hungry days, I often end up in trouble. I'm hoping I'll be okay, I'm going for lunch in 10 minutes and I'll have eggs, very filling & tasty, that might put me back on the right track.

Kathy--sounds like a very fun day--hope you enjoy it!

Val--wow--how exciting to have a long weekend every weekend for the summer?! That would be great! So, did you get through the hungries?

I just got back from going out to lunch at a new place. Had a fantastic Cobb salad and decided to eat the oat bran muffin with some kind of glaze on it that came with it. It was awesome of course and the first thing my screwy little head did was think of what other kind of crap I could/should eat. So now of course I'm having the little wars in my head but for the most part I keep winning so it hasn't been too bad. I just know that when I don't plan to eat something like that and I do---it usually back fires on me. Right now I feel fine....but I have 3 more meals out yet this weekend so I'm going to have to be a bit stronger if I don't want to gain a few......and I don't!!!

Hope you all have a wonderful and safe weekend---Happy 4th of July to those who are celebrating it (and even to those who aren't )!

I actually got through the hungries okay. I'm surprised. That's the last two times that I thought I was in for a "hungry day" and it turned out that eating a good low-carb meal put me back on track. Imagine that! Low-carb works!

I've got my poledancing class tomorrow morning, and then after that, to the hair salon for a cut! I need to get something different. Even my DH who hates the idea of me having shorter hair agrees it needs "some style" as he says.

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping to dip below 165 by tomorrow morning. I know it will bounce back up, I always do, but I haven't seen a 164 number in a long time.
