I hope it all goes smoothly and you have great results! Even with my not so great results I am still so happy to have done it.

This summers weather has sure been varied across the country. We usually have hot steamy summers but not at all this year. I've only had the air on twice, and only for a few days at a time. Right now we are in the upper 80's which isn't bad for this time of year but best of all the humidity is not horrible--love it! I keep thinking we will have an 'indian summer' this fall but I recently heard they are predicting our first frost for Sept 1 so maybe not.

So how are things going with you? How is maintenance? If it's going smooth--I want to hear your secrets on how to make that happen!
I'm super excited about the surgery....even more excited that I've been able to save the cash for it so I won't have to charge anything The PS seems to think he's going to remove somewhere between 10 and 15 pounds of excess skin so that's going to be awesome.

It's been a strange summer here as well....it was really cool and rainy for alot of it. This week has been hot and humid. Really curtails my walking outside at work so I've been hitting the gym instead.

I'm doing really well. I've got a girlfriend coming out the end of September and we're renting a beach house in Jersey to spend a four day weekend. She's down about 70 pounds and almost to Onederland so we're gonna celebrate. Neither of our husbands like the ocean much so it'll just be the two of us.

Maintenance is actually going really well. I'm staying within my "acceptable" weight range. I've recently given up gluten and corn and feeling much better for it. I find I can stay around 100 grams of carbs a day and still maintain but the gluten and corn have been giving me problems so I've gone back to a more traditional low carb meal plan. I have some gluten free bake mix I want to try but haven't been craving anything I'd make with it so I haven't tried it yet. I had alot of arthritis/gout/inflammation stuff going on so I started supplementing with black cherry juice (fresh cherries when I can get them) and was amazed that ALL of my pain was gone within a week. The gluten free/corn free menu helps that as well.

I'm still a Scale Ho but it helps keep me on track....if I notice a trend I don't like I catch it quickly. I usually will drop back down to induction for a week or two and that seems to help. I noticed you guys are kind of doing the same thing.

That is awesome--I love to hear successful maintenance stories!! Yeah, these guys have been going back to induction--me, I just can't stomach it!

Have you checked out Lauren's blog? She goes by the name of Jackiesmixedtape here and you can find her all over the recipe threads--her blog is linked in her siggy. She makes all kinds of great gluten free stuff with natural ingredients, mostly sweets but if you check out her site you will find all kinds of different things.

I wish my tt had taken 10-15 lbs, but alas it didn't. I think between the surgery and revision it was maybe 5. I swear I have at least 5 on my thighs--which is my next area to tackle--but it will probably end up only being 1 lb! Oh well, I don't care, I just want these bulges of skin gone, gone, gone!!!

Your vacation with your friend sounds like a blast---I LOVE the ocean!

OK--need to hit the road and get to my training. It's so weird to be at home right now, usually by this time I have been at work for over an hour---it feels quite decadent to be just sitting around at home!

I've seen some of Lauren's recipes...they look pretty good. I've got a binder going at home with a bunch of low carb recipes of stuff I can make ahead of time and then freeze before my surgery so I don't have to worry about cooking, etc. while I'm recovering.

I guess I'm fortunate (depending on how you look at it) that all of my excess seems to be situated in my abdominal area. Everything else seems to be okay.....I'm hoping I don't get the stomach done and then look at everything else and go EWWW

I ended up cutting all of my hair off a couple of months ago. Was quite the change. I had long hair for a good 10 years and had never really changed the style. Now it's short and layered and I use hair wax to give it a shaggy, messy look. Must say I'm loving it and I've never liked myself with short hair. I always thought my face was too round for it. Just went for it one weekend and now I'm loving it. I can ride in the Jeep with the top down and it doesn't tangle all to hell

Have fun at your offsite!

Hi everyone!

160.4 lbs this morning! So close to the 150s that I can taste it. I'm really, really hoping for this week. I'm mentally preparing myself for a bounce back up though, it's more likely given my weight loss pattern. I was looking at the last few weeks' weighins, -2.8, +1.0, +1.4, -4.6, +2.8, -4.6! Seems like I'm due for a +2 or so this week unfortunately. Damn water fluctuations.

Teresa - I hope they find that little boy, that's so scary. There was a missing girl around here a few months ago and unfortunately, she'd been abducted & killed. It was horrid.

Thanks for the info on the OMM. I'm kind of finding that I'm in a groove of just not eating bread type things while on this weight loss phase, so I'm not sure I'll try it now, but I'll know what to do when I'm back in maintenance. Same for Kathy's link to the bread machine recipe. I have a bread maker and would love a proper bread maker LC bread.

Kim - menu looks good, feeling better about yourself is even better though! I'm glad for you.

Raven - plastic surgery in November! I think my first plastic surgery date was Nov 11th a few years back. 10-15 lbs of skin, wow! That's a lot. I had a tummy tuck & an arm tuck done at the same time and I think the two combined were about 10 lbs. I also had my thighs done, but that was later.

I think Lisa is back from vacation soon. I'm wondering if I'm going to have to stay off the scale while she does induction!

Welcome back BOTH Lisa & Raven (Lisa) It's nice to have both of you back.

Brooke's power soccer practice was a success last night....thankfully I was worried that she would not actually get in the power wheelchair & participate this week but she did!!! And she met a new friend that only lives about 20 min. from us and will be on her team.

My weigh in was ok I was down a couple pounds but still about 10 pounds away from my lowest weight....which I would be very content at right now

Down is down though, Kathy, and you'll be back there in no time. I'm glad Brooke had a good soccer practice. It's great that she felt ready to participate.

Morning....please tell me it's Friday?!? I am so tired. I do have a beautiful pink rose on my desk though so that is making me feel a bit better.

Welcome back Lisa lcq--you'll have to tell us all about your trip!

Kim--where are you? I'm waiting for yesterdays menu!

Kathy and Val--congrats on the lbs down! I think the 150's will be here soon for both of you!

Lisa--my hair keeps getting shorter and shorter but I haven't taken the plunge yet to go very short, I don't think I could pull it off. But I can say that even now at shoulder length with some layers it is so easy to take care of---basically I do nothing to it!

Looks like another long day which ends in a 2 hour meeting...blah. Tomorrow is just as bad but, I'm leaving early if I can get out of here, to head to IL for the weekend for my cousins wedding. It will be nice to get away but these quick trips back and forth are getting tiring.

Well--best go read the 182 e-mails I got while I was out yesterday.

Morning Ladies

Hope everyone is doing well.

Short hair rocks I didn't think I could pull it off either but it works. I actually need to get it trimmed again...it's getting a bit tangled when we have the top and doors off the Jeep.

I've got three people following Atkins here at work. Two of them are doing it correctly...the other one says she's doing Atkins yet eats pretzels, bread and gelatis Then wonders why she's getting heavier. Oh well, I try to lead by example but some people are harder than others.

I know it's not Friday yet but what is everyone's plan for the weekend? I think we're doing more remodelling/demolition and going to the Renn Faire.

Hopefully most of those emails are spam that you can just delete!

The scale is the same today, or at least only .2 up, 160.6. I'll take it. I'd vaguely hoped for a 159, but no. I'm kind of cycling calories right now, lower on weekdays, higher on weekends, and yesterday was day 3 of lower calories in a row. I noticed it was getting tougher. If I have the same trouble today, I'll steal some calories from the weekend. It's possible I'm cycling too much, this is only week two of this particular strategy.

It's Friday for me, I'm off tomorrow, thank goodness.

When I was heavy, I always had short hair. I'm not sure why, I just always kept cutting it. When I lost weight, I started growing it out and had longer hair for a while and now I've become one of those women afraid to cut it short again! I did get layers & a more shoulder length cut recently that is much better though. Same as you Teresa, sort of wash & wear, other than a quick blow dry, no styling needed. I love it.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Hi Guys...thanks for the welcome backs

Other than Miami Sea Aquarium we did not go to any other parks.....I will post some of those pics eventually.

We are hoping to go back for Chrishmas and then hit some Orlando parks.
now that my DS is older (8) and we have family there we can spread it out the park visits over the course of a year because those darn parks are expensive

Raven aka Lisa - howdy... nice to meet ya

Val--have you thought about throwing a moderate calorie day in the middle of the week? That might get you through the hump.

Lisa----yay--pictures--I can't wait!! Those parks are really expensive. Check out the internet now and then and look for deals, they have them occasionally. Also if it's anyone's b-day while you are there they get a day pass for free....although I think that is just through the end of this year. When my sister lived down there we never had to pay because so many of her friends or neighbors worked at Disney and always gave us free passes--which was a huge bonus!

So when does induction start? I know Val has just been waiting for you to get back so she doesn't have to get on the scale anymore! I made my goal of 149.0 or below so no induction for me...well, hopefully anyway....more on that later.

So--the good, the bad and the ugly from today.

The good--got a message from the plastic surgeons scheduler and appt set for 9-18. I called back for directions and then reconfirmed the date because I thought that date was weird---it was either going to be next Tues 8-18 or the very end of Sept. She re-looked at it and was shocked that it is actually 8-18. She said they are booking into Sept and Oct and totally missed it was for this month. So--I am way excited and nervous that I am going to have the consult in just a matter of days! Here's the other cool thing. Last night I was doing some more research trying to decide what to do if this isn't my guy and I remembered that the nurse at the Surgical Center knew I wasn't happy with my results from my tt revision. We spent a lot of time talking about it that night after surgery and she referred me to a Dr that she said is fantastic and dealt with peeps with my skin issues all the time and does a wonderful job. I searched and searched and finally found her business card--and on it was written the name of the Dr she referred me to---and guess what---it is THIS Dr! So I'm starting to feel like this was meant to be!

The bad--stress levels were through the roof today. My boss, who never gets pissed---got really pissed at my co-manager today. Stuff is seriously rolling down hill and everyone is feeling the pressure. I felt more like a counselor today than a manager trying to keep everyone from stressing out.

That all probably leads to The Ugly. Yes, today I ate sugar. Not just a little, but a lot. Not a binge thank God and as soon as I felt it might go there I got myself in check. I know I have better coping skills than that, I think I was just looking for an easy way out. I thought about going for a walk--and that's what I really needed to do, get away from the situation and clear my brain. Instead I told myself I had to get through a bunch of high importance e-mails so I sat at my desk for an hour doing that and eating candy. I'm less freaked about the sugar and the scale as I am annoyed with myself for not realizing that it would be OK to just take 30 minutes to go take care of myself, especially after spending most of the week taking care of everyone else and trying to help everyone work through all the change and chaos that is going on. So--live and learn. I wish I could say that it didn't help at all (the sugar that is), but sadly it kind of did. I felt much better which I'm sure was just a little sugar high, but I think that also tells me I probably need to up my carbs some (but NOT with sugar).

I always tell people it's not the unplanned crap that you eat, but what you do after that that is important. So, I need to practice what I preach and just get back to healthy eating. Thank goodness I never feel deprived not eating wedding cake or I could be in real trouble this weekend.

Lisa/Raven---my plans for the weekend are I'm taking off as soon as I can get away from work tomorrow afternoon and heading to IL (about 4 hours away) for my cousins wedding. I plan to stop at my favorite outlet mall on the way to do a little shopping, then my mom has various plans for us on Sat and Sun (besides the wedding). Church, movie, eating out and somehow I think I'm getting suckered into going to a Mary Kay party with my Aunt.....I don't even like Mary Kay! But, it will be fun and I need a break. Sadly I just have to turn around Sun evening and drive 4 hours back and then jump right back into the maddness Monday morning. Oh well, I'm just going to try to enjoy the weekend.

I cannot believe it Renn Fair time already! How did it get to be mid-August??? I swear it should still be April or May. Gosh, time flies and since we haven't really had a normal summer here weather wise it's hard for me to believe it is really almost over!!

Teresa - it sounds like you are practising what you preach. You caught yourself and you stopped eating sugar. It's not about never making a mistake, it's about knowing how to recover from a mistake, right? You did great and I'm sure any repercussions from it will be gone by Wednesday.

I don't have any big plans for the weekend, I'm leading the Women's Learn to Run clinic this session and it's Saturdays at 9am, so there is that and our long run is on Sunday mornings as usual, but other than that, it's an easy, unscheduled weekend. I should plan something, but I probably won't! I'm lazy at heart!

Teresa - great idea about the moderate day mid-week. I might just do that. I may just do it today! We'll see, so far I'm within my calorie allowance even with my planned snack later tonight, but if I get really hungry, I may add another snack.

Yep, knowing how to recover from a mistake has been my problem so I really need to deal with this. I typically have no problem when I plan to eat sugar--it's when I don't plan it and it 'happens' that I end up screwing myself. But I am feeling OK with it all right now and just moving on so we'll see how the next few days go.

I have a question for ya----I need to get some new tennis shoes and since I do jog occasionally---what would be your suggestions for a good shoe for jogging and/or walking?

If you are going to jog occasionally, then get a real running shoe. Most of the brands are fine, Nike, Saucony, Asics, New Balance, Mizuno, you should really try them on and see what feels good. Running shoes are fine for walking as well.

If you plan to try to get into running more and/or have foot problems at all, flat arches or anything like that, I'd advise going to a running specialty store and have them watch you run or jog and they'll analyze your foot strike & help you figure out what kind of shoe you need, some have more support & structure for foot problems than others. In general, there are three types of shoes, "cushioning or neutral" for no foot problems, "stability" for minor corrections and "motion control" for really flat arches and feet/ankles that roll in. If you have orthotics already, then you will always want a cushioning or neutral shoe because your orthotic will already be correcting your foot plant. Just take out the liner of the shoe and slip in your orthotic. Take the orthotics with you to the store and try the shoes on with the orthotic.

The problem with is that running specialty stores tend to be expensive. If that's an issue, go anyway, have them analyze your feet and tell you what kind of shoe you need. Then you can shop around for a better price on that type of shoe.

Cool, thanks for all the info! My feet are pretty normal--short, fat and with a high instep--so I guess not normal but no problems with tennis shoes. I do wonder if the high instep is why I've always had problems with lots of different types of high heels and ice skates though--I get an ache in the top of my feet when I wear any of those kinds of things too long or too often. OK--but that's off the subject!

I currently walk/jog in New Balance and love them. I've had no problems with them at all and they're very comfy--but very worn---so I just thought since I need to buy new ones if there were better choices I might look into them. But I think I'll get some new NB's then!

Well, must go get ready for bed, I want to get into the office before anyone else (which means before 6am) so I might have a few minutes to myself to figure out what needs to be done and come up with a plan for the day---with no distractions!

New Balances have one of the best reputations for shoes, if you like them, keep buying them!

I had a bit of a bad day with food today, too. I knew hunger was going to be an issue, but I also allowed myself to have a cookie and then later a bunch of crackers, too many carbs for me, and it made the hunger worse. Things aren't too bad, calories are only 425 over my target for today, and I can easily adjust by spreading out that overage over the rest of the week without much trouble. It does mean that I need to just gut it out for the rest of the night though and put up with hunger if it returns and I need to be extra careful tomorrow about staying a little stricter with controlling the carbs.

KIM---where are you????? You need to check in soon or you will be getting a call (and maybe a kick in the butt!)!

I'm here and doing ok. I've lost another pound or two--yesterday I had

B--turkey with butter and pepper
S--Atkin's shake
L--turkey with ranch
D--6 meatballs, 1/2 c marinara and shiritaki noodles

Today I've had:

B--turkey with butter and pepper
L--omelet with veggies and hollandaise sauce, no cheese
D--5 small cabbage rolls with no sauce and 1 sliced tomato

Got good news and bad news today. Found out my insurance will pay for a panniculectomy if I meet criteria BUT the only plastic surgeon who took my insurance is leaving the end of this month and not taking any new cases. Bummer.

Morning--it's Friday--woohoo--I think....yawn.....

Kim--thank you for getting your buns back in here and I'm glad to hear that things are going well. It looks like you are getting back in control! Yay on insurance approval--that's awesome! I'm soooo jealous!! So will you have to start searching outside of your area for another surgeon who accepts your insurance, or is that allowed with your plan? I would think in KC or probably even closer you could find someone? I hope! Don't give up--where there's a will there's a way! If the Dr I'm seeing next week isn't the one my next plan is to start checking out the Chicago area or maybe the twin cities as I know I would be able to find lots more choices in those cities--it will just be hard to sift through all the choices and will take a lot of research, but it's worth it.

Val--425 cals is nothing--when you eat crappy food you definitely don't go overboard--I wish I was able to do that. I'm pretty much an all or nothing kind of gal. We are going to have to teach you to make some low carb baked goods, including crackers!

Kathy--what's up in your world these days? You must be getting close to a couple weeks back on induction....is it going well? How is your mom doing with SB?

Have a good one all. I'll probably be back later but if not I'm sure I'll check in this weekend.

Good Morning Ladies,

Woot! It's Friday

Kim, That's great that your insurance company will cover the surgery. Hopefully you'll find someone in the area that can do it since your surgeon is moving. I'm seeing my family doctor in two weeks to get a "referrel" to my plastic surgeon for a medically necessary Breast Reduction and hopefully a medically necessary Tummy Tuck. I'm getting the TT regardless of whether I have to pay for it but I'm going to see if I can't get my insurance to cover it.

I can't decide whether we're going to the Renn Faire this weekend or whether we're going to spend the weekend putting the room back together that we completely demolished. We have knotty pine tongue and groove panels on the whole first floor of the house. It's dark and from the 60's....and I can't stand it.....so we're ripping it all out. We have one room completely demolished (down to the studs). We replaced all the insulation in the room, ran some new electrical and widened a doorway. Now we have to drywall, etc. We ordered a 100 sheets of drywall (we have alot of projects) the day before my hubby tore the tendon in his ankle and it's just sitting in the garage taunting us I'm afraid it's going to snowball. We've decided to do so much to the house and we're only in the beginning stages!

Oh well, off to work. We have a retirement ceremony today so I'll be in and out.

Have a GREAT day!

Kim~ I think that you are in the same boat that I am in.....insurance will cover if you can build a case & have it approved. I have went to the Dr. and had some things documented but have not asked for a referral to a PS yet. Congrats on losing a couple more pounds

Teresa~ Sugar Sucks!!! I'm glad you regained control quickly
Did they ever find the little boy that was missing? Have a safe trip this weekend and have fun.

Raven~ Did you ever think of painting the knotty pine? My sister did that in a house she lived in once and it turned out pretty nice. We did our share of remodeling in our old house...since we built a new house DH will not even let me repaint a room

Vee~ Good luck with the calories/carbs today

Lisa lcq~ Did you get all your shopping done?

I'm going shopping today with DD & my sister. We are looking for new school shoes....for a suddenly picky pre-teen I have salad cut up in the fridge & eggs boiled so I have lunch ready when I get home....NO reason to grab something when we are out!!!!!

Kathy - We thought about painting it but I don't reallly like the look of painted wood....not to mention this stuff has never been treated or taken care of in 40+ years. We think this house must have been an old hunting cabin at one time that was expanded and added to.

We just have SO much to do to it that it can get overwhelming at times. We're trying to fix things that the previous owner did. In order to remodel the kitchen we're gonna have to tear down the ceiling because the ceiling was put in after the knotty pine panels were put up. And then the floor was built up about 2 inches and the panels go under the floor as well. It would almost be less work to tear it down and start over! But don't tell my DH that....

So--the good, the bad and the ugly from today.:
Teresa - First off regarding your good, bad and the ugly........I am so happy for your good news.....even if it is short notice....as for the bad which led to the ugly........I am proud of you for regaining control so fast..........that is what it's all about.......because life will continue to happen...it's how whe deal with it is what matters

As for induction.............sorry I forgot to mention it before....but I am on day two now and I have the yucky headache to prove it.......

.So Val......time to put away that scale for 2 weeks.....and Teresa.....you got away from induction by the skin of your teeth.......but I am happy you are out of the 50's

Raven - Sounds like your house will have you busy for a long long time..........but the rewards will be well worth the time and sacrifice you are putting into it

Lisa - I won't go back on the deal, I'll stay off the scale. I will have to weigh next Wednesday, I'm keeping an official weight loss weigh in week by week and Wednesday's my weigh in day, but other than that, I'll stay off the scale! I didn't much like what it said this morning, anyway.

I'm sorry you've got a headache, but I'm glad you are back on induction, I hope it goes well and you lose lots and lots.

Morning!

Kathy--they did find the little boy after like 5 hours. Unharmed and apparently in one of the buildings that had been searched. I don't really understand the details but he is OK--that's if his parents didn't kill him! So did you find some shoes for Brooke? Can you believe they are starting school this week?? Is Spencer psyched and ready to go?

Val--so has the scale withdrawal begun yet?

LisaR (I have to figure out a way to distinguish you two!)--so is it working on the house, or the R. Fair today? I'd be voting for the R. Fair! Have you been to many R. Fairs in your area? We have one locally but it's small and not that great--or at least it wasn't when I last went probably 5 years ago. The ones in Minneapolis and Chicago though are awesome! I've also been in Detroit as well as somewhere else in the mid west--I think Omaha or KC---and they weren't that great. I think the one in Minneapolis is probably my favorite one.

LisaL--sorry about the sucky headache but proof that you needed a good little detoxing! Hopefully you will be feeling better today. Still waiting for those pics! I have some that I need to post for you one of these days that I took awhile back of the Carthage Jail. When does Jared go back to school?

KIM---OK, what's up missy?? Stressed? Come chat with us, maybe we can help ya through it.

OK, as much as I need to be at work this weekend catching up and figuring out what the hell I am doing, I am soooo glad to be away for awhile. I'm not usually stressed out easily, and typically the one who helps everyone else through the craziness but yesterday I was stretched just about as far as I could go without snapping. By the time I finally got out of there I just didn't even care anymore....which is so not me. But I think a couple of days away are 'just what the Dr ordered' so hopefully I will be able to tackle it all again next week with a better attitude.

Have a good day ladies!
