Woo Hoo for August!!!
Actually, SS, the Atkins' shakes I have say they are okay for all phases of induction. Check yours - they may be just fine - and I do use them - and bars - when I can't get breakfast. Still, I try to also avoid them if possible. SOme suggestions for breakfast: Cook up sausage the night before. It isn't so bad cold in the car... Ditto for bacon... Cheese cubes with some chicken, ham, or steak/roast Deviled eggs The individually-portioned cottage cheese containers (or make your own) with s&p or davincis syrups depending on how you like it... low-carb yogurt smoothies with a handfull of nuts (they are only 60 cals, I need more than that for breakfast) ...and...of course, be sure to have a bottle of WATER with breakfast to help fill youup for a while! Y'all have a great day! Keep it cool and low-carb!!!

I am going to follow more along the lines of Dr. Barry Groves, Eat Fat Get Thin. I do better with a little higher carb plan and was following Curves when I did so well last go round. But the foods are very similar, I'll be having around 75 g of carbs from fruit and an occasional piece of high fiber toast, etc.
Yesterday's menu: 2 eggs fried in butter 3 smokie links 2 slices tomato coffee, 1/2&1/2, splenda Lunch: Harvest cobb salad from Crispers w/ smoked turkey and poppyseed dressing (salad contains fruit and bleu cheese crumbles) unsweet tea, lemon water Dinner 5 jalepeno peppers, w/ cream cheese, bacon slices hamburger patty w/ fried red bell peppers and onions on top unsweet tea water I haven't eaten yet today, but the menu will be similar. HT:: I have a hard time preparing food in advance. My husband and I have a 21 yr old, 16 yr old and three younger kids. There are never any leftovers and if I do make things ahead, they think it's for them and gobble it up! I'm not much of a fan of leftover bacon or eggs, so breakfast is really a challenge for me. I did find that the Atkins shakes contain malitol, so I will not be using them. That stuff is wicked mean on my tummy! I think I'll do better sticking with whole food. I can't afford organic, but I prefer raw as much as possible.

Morning All !
I have a story to tell you... Frist let me say THANK YOU to you all and this board for keeping me "together"... ![]() ![]() ![]() Had a hard day at work yesterday and I somehow threw my back out- Got threw it though... anyway, we have been helping nights refinish a house that our "other son" bought. He bought Pizza's for us all for dinner and I have to tell you that I SO WANTED THAT PIZZA!! Pizza is like my favorite food in the whole wide world! I thought of all of you and this wonderful board and about "Cheat Free August"! I told myself, that I made a commitment to you and myself to join in and instead I ate left over tossed salad with ranch dressing and two cheeseburgers with just dill relish and was just as happy and proud of myself for staying OP and honest! THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() My "update" from the scale... I trotted to the scale- fresh from the shower yesterday morning and hopped on to find that it did NOT budge again this week!!! ![]() (another good reason to have threw up my hands and eat the pizza)... ![]() could it be the black olives? Maybe the salty fetta cheese? Maybe all the Advil I have been taking for my back? Maybe I need to drink even more water? I'll make all these small changes and see what next week brings... Have a great weekend ! Just had to tell you my "little story" and how you all helped! Thanks again! from the bottom of my heart and the little dial on my scale.... ![]()

I didn't have a good last two days, but I am ready to have a good saturday!
I got up and got busy straight away, vacuuming and tidying up, so that I could feel comfortable. I am working on a big embroidery project to keep busy and it is white, so no snacking while I work in the evenings. my dh and my walking friend have been bugging me about walking, so I need to gogogo! it must have made a big impact on them, when I was going daily. my old scale is back down to 225ish, my digital one may as well go in the garbage, it varies so dang much. I did notice I was peeing and peeing so I hope all that water rention is going down. I sure felt miserable for days with swelling. thank you ladies for being here and giving the structure and support I need. ![]() |

Hooray for Frieda, Heidi, and EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am back from Nick Hotel...we only went for an overnight - for the kids to have some fun. Nick Hotel - Nickelodeon Family Suites by Holiday Inn -Florida Family Resorts, Orlando Kid Vacation Spots & FL Hotel Packages I DID NOT cheat!!!!!!!!!! There were SO many temptations! I had the buffet for dinner and had a bunch of shrimp and prime rib - no pudding and ice cream! I also, however, got a visit from "Aunt Flo" whom I haven't seen since April. THis is the worst TOM I've EVER had in my entire life. I'm amazed I haven't caved, but I am DETERMINED!!! THanks to all of you, I feel nicely accountable. THANKS!!!!!!! |

![]() ![]() ![]() We're still at the beach. DH's aunt & her family didn't come down this weekend as they usually do (we inherited the house together), so we decided to stay. Neighbor agreed to feed the kitteh for a few extra days. Not 100% on plan but not bingeing. 8 times out of 10 I'm binging if I'm not on plan so that's a plus for me. We'll be home tomorrow afternoon. Talk to y'all tomorrow night or Monday |

For ALL of us! We ROCK! I too had another great day and the back is feeling a "little" better... My DD was given an award tonight at our Civic Center for saving a local and well loved womens life from our area who was found laying on the floor in her kitchen while her house was on fire, two firemen and my daughter who is a paid EMT/ Volunteer Firefighter pulled her out and my daughter started CPR. The lady was airlifted to a burn hospital near NYC and was on life support for weeks. Anyway, she thankfully lived and was at the award show tonight as the three "Heros" were presented with plaques... SO VERY PROUD! Just "had" to share.... Sweet potato with Cinnamon butter ???? OMG I am so going to have to try that!! Sounds wonderful!!! We can have sweet potatoes? I love them, I just thought that they were considered a potato and a no no... YOU MADE MY NIGHT!!!! Going to have to look up the carbs... THANKS! Well- best get to bed. Here's to a GREAT SUNDAY! I have hubby's family Reunion tomorrow... I have a plan..., ![]() |

Frieda - What a great award - you must be so proud!!! I have to tell you that I think SS is doing a slightly different plan than Atkins (Eat fat, Get Thin - I believe is what she wrote...). I highly doubt we can have a sweet potato - or I'd be ahead of you in the checkout line!!!
Jennifer, what beach are you at - or in which state? DH and I are just DYING to move to Emerald Isle (or thereabouts) in NC. We went for a week last summer and I fell totally in love with the place. I also grew up a few hours from Wildwood NJ and spent many summers there. I'm all about the ocean... We buy lotto tickets almost weekly hoping to win a few million to get us to a beach FOREVER! Things are still good here eating-wise. I made a few great inventions last night. First, I took some cheese, dipped it in egg that I had seasoned with salt, pepper, and garlic powder, then rolled it in ground flax and fried it. Yummy! Next, I decided I'd just like an omelette for dinner, so I used the remaining egg, added a few more, and then added the remaining flax I had (1 tsp...), feta cheese, and 2 slices of ham lunchmeat. WOW, was that good! What am I gonna do when I don't have time to make eggs every morning?!?!? Guess I'll be taking lots of hardboiled ones to work. Ladies, more later! I have a house to clean! |

I had a small sweet potato because I am not doing induction. But sweet potato is on the ladder, so it's something you can have in the future, and definately add the cinnamon butter!
For dinner last night I wound up eating the last two leftover jalepeno poppers. Those things are addictive... so glad they are on plan!! LOL I was up and down all night back and forth to the potty. I have no swelling issues with my feet and legs now! Yeay!!! I have my ankles back! I'm happy to say that Eat Fat Get Thin is WORKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm down overnight to 252 again......... what a great way to eat! Last edited by Silver Spice : 08-03-2008 at 09:30 AM. |

Frieda, you must be so proud of your daughter!
![]() Cris, be careful of frying flaxseed- it is very perishable under high heat, and can become toxic. |

HT that fried cheese sound so good!!!!!
~~~~~~~~~ Ahhhhhhh.. breakfast at 1:30 pm. I wasn't hungry so I didn't eat. But hubbie started frying some bacon and it got my appetite going. Breakfast: 3 eggs scrambled in 2 T butter 2 slices bacon 1/4 cup shredded potato fried in bacon fat 1/2 Hass avocado unsweet tea I feel so much better eating this way, I can barely describe it. I need to tell you all something very important. I have chronic pain from back injuries and severe fibromyalgia (with other complications) as well as type 2 diabetes, menopause, and clinical obese BMI. I can't tell you all how much I need the support and motivation to continue this battle. If I never lose another pound, at least I hope not to ever gain any either! I just want to FEEL BETTER!!!!! All the doctors can tell me is that I am generally very healthy and just need to lose weight. Well.... easy for them to say! I've tried diet drugs, anti depressants and all their crazy diets. Nothing was acceptable to me, and I hated feeling like a dope head or an air head. I am starting to really feel like myself again, in just a very short time. I had similar feelings when doing the Curves food plan and exercise program, so I know part of it was adjusting carbs in the right proportion to what my body needs. I'm sorry I can't follow Atkins Induction, and I hope I'm not discouraging anyone by posting my meals. Its only for my own benefit really, and if it's confusing anyone I will stop doing it. But with that said, if anyone else would like to join the EFGT way of eating, it's awesome! Last edited by Silver Spice : 08-03-2008 at 11:32 AM. |
Hi SS
I wish you the success and will be right here staying with the program I follow. I do the induction just once or twice a year for one month but in no way does anyone have to do induction. We don't require anyone here to follow induction or any other food plan We all do what works for us. After Induction this month I will be going on the "Nothing Special Way of Eating that i lost most of my 70 lbs with. I sympathize with you I am in a simular condition with lots of things that make losing such a challenge I did throw the towel in a couple of years ago only to gain and gain up to a deadly 452 I developed serious problems and it required my son to come live in and nurse me back up on mu feet it took a long tome and I will never throw the towel in again. The Drs tell me the same thing they say to you but when i lost the 70 lbs they were shocked since I am not walking much and am sedendary. KUTGW all of us and me we will at least not gain and not gaining is also a challenge! Now on a different subject here is my grandbaby with some of her first giggles at 3 mo... Here she is ...Her mom caught her trying to turn on her side ... ![]() ![]() This baby has brought so much joy!
Back home
The kitchen is stocked with l/c foods & I'm ready to get back to it. I've decided that August will be a no scale zone month for me. I can feel myself getting obsessed with the stupid number, so I have to step away. Frieda - That's wonderful about your DD. You must be so proud. HT - We were on the TX Gulf Coast in Freeport. Carol - Emme is a doll ![]() Last edited by Jennifer : 08-03-2008 at 03:40 PM. |
Hi, new here--some questions
Hi everyone, I am new here, and am kinda lost.
I can't seem to find how to post a reply to someone's post; can't see this in the FAQ section. Can someone help me? I uploaded a pic, and it is within the size parameters; yet it does not display here next to my post. What should I do next? Also, what are the three numbers divided by slashes that everyone has under their pic? Thanks so much! Last edited by funinphoenix : 08-03-2008 at 05:43 PM. |
Hi Fun....... when you are ready to respond to a certain post click the QUOTE button on the lower right hand corner of that person's post. Then it will take you to the reply screen and carry over their comments in quotations.
For your picture, even if it's the right size it has to be the right format. Try checking it again and make sure you click the "use avatar" option or it will leave the area blank. Usually those three numbers represent their weight when they started, their current weight and the weight they are reaching for as a goal. Welcome to LCF and our fabulous little group here! |
