Amber...I found this on your blog today. I really appreciate your blogs throughout your journey. At least I know I'm not the only one that's been through this. LOL

This was at your one month mark...
From Amber...
"I am so tired today too. Insomnia kicked in high gear last night I was up til 2 a.m., then up again at 6 with the kids. Not fun. I had a mini break down this morning from sheer exhaustion and the state of things. I miss being independant and being able to just throw the kids in the car and go. I miss being able to take care of my baby without help. It's been 4 weeks and I am ready to be well!! LOL Besides the tiredness and drain I feel, I'm tired of feeling like I need a babysitter to go anywhere. I can change diapers, fix food, do laundry, etc... but I still can't pick him up on my own, or sweep the floors, or even go to Walmart alone. All that involves lifting. I know it is almost over, but after the sleepless night it all sort of crashed in on me."

Thank you! This is how I feel so often.

Ugh ugh ugh ugh....very touchy pouch tonight....blech.

I came home and fixed a hamburger for dinner. Had one last night and it went down just fine, but not tonight. Four bites in I got stuck. Went to the bathroom, PB'd the bit that was stuck, felt better, and gave it a few minutes to calm down before trying again. Took one more bite and got stuck again. Waited a few more minutes, PB'd again, felt better. That was it for the burger, so I tried a little bit of a yogurt smoothie. Five minutes later I ran to the bathroom again and up came everything that was in my pouch. I'm now sipping some chamomile tea and hoping it will calm down by tomorrow. Ouch!

I would stay away from milk for the pre-op diet, because of the surgars. I know when I did low-carb strict a few years ago, milk was a no-no. But, if you want to try it, there is a low-carb milk by Hood, called carb-countdown that you could use for pre-op which is low in carbs. The chocolate is pretty good. I think Amber drinks this stuff (white or chocolate? not sure) and does well with it post-op, too!

That stinks! That is one thing I'm worried about. I haven't vomitted since I was a kid and that thought of it, well, let's just say...

Have you gotten a fill recently? Also, was wondering how do you do with shrimp? My Nut told me alot of people have problems with it. I hope not, because I love shrimp!

The sugars are not sucrose but lactose-perfectly fine for the RNY gastric bypass patient.

I can have 8 oz of skim milk on the pre-opt diet a day

I have been making a protein shake with it...

I can have up to 16 oz. a day of skim milk post-op. I usually only drink it in smoothies though. Milk just doesn't sit well with me most of the time. Sometimes I'll make hot chocolate with milk and chocolate protein powder...yummm...

Jenny - sorry about last night. That's how I felt yesterday except I can't seem to throw-up for the life of me. My little pouch just won't give up what's in there! I hope you're feeling better this morning. Maybe try to eat yogurt or cottage cheese for breakfast...something that goes down easy.

Good Morning Kyla, Lisabinil and Lisa!

Good morning! I put pork steak in the crock pot overnight and that will be what I eat today. (I'm trying to really focus on protein)

When I did STRICT induction levels of carbs I did stay away from milk due to carbs, and yes the hood carb countdown/ calorie countdown is excellent...... but nowadays milk is one of my sources of protein and I love milk... so I try to drink it...

I guess because I'm TRYING to focus on protein and not being a carb tyrant (but trying to stay low) ... heck I don't know.. I'm not a perfect Bandster or WLS patient.... I eat crap.. I haven't been drinking enough water...... and I don't exercise.. I'm human...

Today is a new day.... pork steak and water.. (but not together)

Jenny: If I pb like you explained I would go to liquids and NOT try the burger for a while. You need to evaluate when you are no longer hungry as your restriction might of tightened up since a few days ago...... (period, stress, time of day, speed of eating)

Have a great great day everyone!

Good morning everyone!

As far as the milk thing goes, I love it and could make it my main source of liquids! I am supposed to drink it post op, as well, for protein. I know that RNYs and bandsters can have it and tolerate it, but if you're trying to lose weight pre-op on a low-carb diet, it might stall you. I lost 50 lbs a few years ago doing Atkins, and milk always stalled me. I did fine with other dairy, like cheese, but it was always the milk that got me. How much more do you have to lose, Lisa, before surgery?

Good news ladies! I am 3 days into my 2 week pre-op diet and I have already dropped 6 lbs! I had put on 4 lbs last week with the whole 'last-supper' thinking so I am now 2 lbs below my lowest pre-op weight. I hope to be solid in the 230's by surgery day!

Tracy- What do you put in the crock pot with your pork steak? Is the crock pot the only way you can get pork down, because it makes it softer?

Good morning, everyone,

Thanks for the well wishes, you guys. I'm fine today--I think it just needed a little while to calm down.

Thanks for the advice, Tracy. The only reason I tried the burger again was because my PBs are usually due to having swallowed too big a bite (still working on chew chew chew!) and I don't usually have trouble getting stuff down afterwards. Last night was definitely an exception, and I'm figuring that the first time it got stuck my pouch got a little irritated and swelled a little, causing the second stuck, which got more irritated, and by that time even the liquid wouldn't go down. I drank some hot chamomile tea to soothe it and then had a pudding cup later in the evening and it was fine. This morning I had a yogurt drink and some thin oatmeal and I'm okay, though I'll be very aware of each bite I take today.

I'm still working on paying attention to when I'm full (though last night that wasn't the issue--I was definitely still hungry after the first stuck episode). I actually feel guilty when I have to throw away half of whatever I'm eating. Last night after the burger episode I couldn't bring myself to throw away the 3/4 of a burger that was left, thinking I'd just eat it later. It wasn't until a couple of hours later that I forced myself to be reasonable and recognize that I wasn't going to eat the damn thing and might as well get rid of it.

Okay, uh, anyone eating breakfast right now might want to skip this paragraph. Kyla, I understand what you're saying because I don't remember the last time I threw up from being sick. PBs aren't exactly like throwing up. There isn't the nausea (at least for me) that I get when I'm actually sick and vomiting. It's uncomfortable, but not awful (last night's excepted, 'cause it really sucked).

To answer your other questions, Kyla, I haven't had a fill in about a month and I'm really happy with my level of restriction (and I haven't noticed that mine has changed much with stress or TOM or anything else). Just goes to show that we need to pay attention all the time and not assume that what went down yesterday will go down today or tomorrow. As for shrimp, I've had them a couple of times (most recently this past weekend) and didn't have any problems, though I can see how some people would because shrimp can be pretty tough. You'll need to make sure to chew them really, really, really well.

Have a great day, ladies!

Ok, my story goes like this..... I'm 39 (40 in July) and married for 3 yrs to the most wonderful man in the world. Together DH and I have 4 children and 7 grandbabies. I KNOW, I'M WAY TO YOUNG TO HAVE 7 GRANDBABIES!!
I'm a born again Christian and love the Lord with all my heart. I Have PCOS and have been over weight my entire life. I have eaten lower carb for over 25 yrs, and have even lost 80+ lbs 4 times in my adult life. It always comes back and brings some friends with it. I prayed and researched for about a year, and finally decided WLS (RNY) is my best option now. I am waiting for insurance approval and my new life to begin.
I'm eating at induction levels now, not drinking with meals or 30 minutes after, I drink 96oz of crystal light daily (can't stand just water). Like I said in a past post, I have given up smoking, caffeine, and Diet Coke. I just want a healthier life, for me and my family.

he wanted me to lose as much as I could before surgery...

I am only taking in 1 cup of milk a day.... at the most...
I mixing it in with my protein drinks a 1/2 cup at a time....
I just looked over my pre-opt diet and it says I can have 8 oz... it shows 1 cup at two different meals a day.....

and I am keeping my carbs and fats down.... the nurtritionist say that she didn't want us to do extreme low carb like introdution atkins....

my carbs are running anywhere from 30 up to 70 a day....and my fats are running about 25 a day.... calories are around a 1,000

I hadn't thought of how shrimp can be kind of tough. I had 2 pieces a week or so ago and then 30 minutes later tried to eat something else. I felt so full and hurt so bad I couldn't eat anything else. But now it makes a little more sense.

Geez, what a learning experience! I tried to drink a protein shake again this morning and could only get 3 or 4 sips down. Then I started feeling pukey again. I guess I just can't tolerate milk right now. I'm drinking skim Lactaid so I shouldn't be having trouble. Oh well...

I need some good ideas for getting protein in my diet.

I guess I could try to mix my protein powder with water.

Can't eat boiled eggs. The texture of the whites makes me gag for some reason.
Scrambled eggs are okay. But I can only eat 1/2 and egg so there's not a whole lot of protein there.
I can eat 1 tbs. of peanut butter, but the fat out weighs the protein by a lot.
I tried fish yesterday and gagged for 2 hours.
I can eat tuna...but only 1-2 tbs.
I can eat refried beans...not sure how much protein I can get in 1-2 Tbs.
Cottage cheese goes down well. I'm can eat up to 1/2 a cup sometimes.

I can't remember if it was here or on another board that someone was talking about a tasteless protein powder that you add to your foods/drinks. Has anyone tried anything like that?

Thanks everyone!

Isopure is a plain powder but seriously check out the Syntrax Brand-lots of fruit flavors you could add to water. I'm going to try the cappucino one-I have the fuzzy navel flavor-orange-peach.

I'm up there with ya Lisa-I'm 45.

WELCOME NANCY!!!!!!!!

Kyla: WAY TO GO GIRL!!!!!

Jenn: Glad you are feeling better!

Mysti: Thanks! (I am nothing if not brutally honest) I posted a HORRIFIC belly flap picture yesterday.. my sis has been seriously depressed about gaining weight (she is 162) but normally in the 140 range..... so I went to the bathroom, dropped trou and took a pic with my phone and then sent it to her with ... "HEY ATLeast you don't have THIS hiding in your underwear!!!!" She laughed her butt off and it lifted her spirits (which is what I was going for!)

Everyone: I want you to know that I read this thread daily and no matter the WLS you've had or are going to have I really appreciate your imput on this thread..... weight loss is goal.. but as we all know Maintenance is the hard part. I think as we all get closer to giving up our membership in the FAT GIRLS FOREVER club... we will always be that person on the inside..... its hard for me to realize that people are looking at me like I was NEVER that 272 pound person.... and its weird to think that people are becoming jealous and resentful of my success.. I mean it has happened before, but I always ended up gaining it back ...... but NOT this time and I think that freaks them out.... plus I'm in 10's now........... before my "skinny jeans" were 12's........ whooo haaaaa... I don't post my pics very much on the main boards here because of the multitud of people who think that we are "cheating" ... so I save that for my blog, myspace, and Lbt.... but dang it... WE SHOULD BE DANG PROUD! and I am..........

OK.. sorry for the ramble.... but I'm feeling all mushy today.. (and no its not just my mushy belly!)

OH and my crock pot pork steak is one of my ALLTIME LC favs...........

Pork Steak, 1 jar of Ragu Roasted Garlic Alfredo (about 4 carbs per 1/2 cup) 1 jar of water and a small can of mushrooms......... cooked on low either over night or all day while I'm at work......... in my STRICT low carb days I would eat very little of the "broth" but now I indulge in it being that I'm the only one who will eat it.. it could last me 6 meals. DH can not stand pork or mushrooms.. and since he won't eat it, I don't fix it for the family.

For me and my level of restriction meat has to be super tender for me to be able to eat it.. ala crock pot........ (plus.. I still eat to dang fast)
