I love my support meeting... i didn't have that when I did the gastric stampling and I think it would have made a world of difference..... we meet on 2nd tuesday of the month and the last wednesday of the month...... I try to make both of them... its good to see where everyone is at... what they are doing before surgery and what they are doing after surgery.... plus you learn what works and what does not....

I just took my first B12 pill, the one you put under the tongue, its hard to keep it all under your tongue is that ok...lol

Thanks, Lisa...even if you guys don't have good news (like I'm going to wake up tomorrow normal) I still appreciate it. I need to know what's normal or expected. I guess mentally, I'm ready to begin my new life...but physically, I'm just not ready.

Hi everyone!

Kyla, I'm so excited for you! And for Mycattaz, too. I only had to do a 3-day liquid diet (all liquids), so I can't offer any advice on that, but after surgery I had to do two weeks of liquids and then two weeks of soft/mushie foods, and I was soooo excited to get to chew again. It was hard to stay on it, but I kept reminding myself that it was only for a a few weeks, and now I look back on it and have to laugh at myself for finding it such a challenge.

Mysti, you're doing great!

Okay, today's menu (which I know y'all could care less about, but I post anyway to keep myself accountable):

b: cottage cheese and fruit (this didn't agree with my band, so I wasn't able to finish it--100 cal)
l: 1/2 C tuna/egg salad (300 cal), veggies and dip (100 cal)
s: babybel cheese (70 cal)
d: Lean Cuisine (350 cal)

Have a great day, ladies!

Nutritional class went great, very imformative...... I found out today that I don't have to have another one till a few months down the road.... they gave us the huge book when we first went to our doctors appointment, its got all the information in it, if you know where to look.... they call this book our Bible for wls.....

dh went to see his cardiologist to get a clearance for wls.... he EKG came back looking great and his blood work look ok.... they are setting up a appointment for a stress test and also he went and gave more blood for another blood test.... he was not in the best of moods when we left there, long day.... but on top of all of this he is smoke free for two days now...... so he is not easy to live with anyway...... lol

he know he has to give up the smoking to get the surgery done, so he is doing that now.... I am calling today and setting up appointment with a regular doctor just to get him started on the 6 month diet thing just in case...... Insurance told me he didn't need it, but the WLS office says he does either way we are going to be covered.....

I also need to call and set up my cousling meeting I am suppose to go to one before surgery... and its only 2 weeks and 6 days till surgery....

I've never heard of that. But I will pick some up when I go out again.

Thanks for the tip!

I'm really struggling with my fluids today. I ate my salsa chicken too fast and my pouch began to hurt. I couldn't finish my lunch and I haven't been able to eat or drink since. Just little sips of water. Dinner's not looking too promising either. My pouch feels sore. I was eating lunch while watching tv...big mistake! I usually sit downstairs on the couch an really focus on chewing, eating slowly, etc. But I go into brain-dead mode when I'm watching tv.

Mysti its called G2 I just noticed on the back it has 10 gram of carbs and 10 grams of sugar hmmmm wasn't expecting that... everyone in group is talking about it.... well might not be a good idea.... how much sugar are you allow after surgery..... I thought is was 0

you mention something about it being better to get alone and eat.... our bariatric support group leader, said the same thing... she said in the begining she had to get off by her self and concentrate on what she was doing as far as eating.... taking a bite, chew, chew, chew and after swalling wait a few minutes before she took another bite...

I am trying my best to practice this now, cause I know I am going to have a problem with this.... if I don't work on it...

Things change I guess-a lc diet was never mentioned after my surgery in 2000 only a low sugar lowfat one. The Gatorade would make me dump even after 7 years-anything liquid and sweet like that you should stay away from. Dumping is not fun. Try the Syntrax Nectars protein powders-they sell them here at Netrition. I have the Fuzzy Navel and like it really well. Can mix with water for a fruity pp drink, make a slushie or a creamsicle type shake.

I was under the impression that Mycattaz is going to be banded, in which case she shouldn't have to worry about dumping, but even so it's still generally a good idea to steer clear of things with a lot of sugar. After all, it's just empty calories with no nutritional value and can trigger cravings in those of us sensitive to sugar. Ten carbs per serving may or may not be within the range of what you want.

You may find it difficult to track down a low-sugar drink that has the protein or nutrients you're looking for, or at least to track down one that tastes like anything you want to drink. I made do with Isopure drinks, though I never actually enjoyed them. I haven't had one in quite a while, as I try to get all of my protein in through solid foods. I think you'll find yourself tweaking things as you go along--absolutely follow your surgeon's guidelines to the letter at first, but as time goes on you'll be able to figure out what you can adapt to better suit your individual needs.

Lisa Jenny I really didn't think about how long these people have been post -op.... we have some in our support group that are as old as 5 years post- op... I will make sure that is brought to there attention in the next support meeting...

the other night one of the guys that just celebrated his 1 year anniversary, held one up and said how wonderful they were, he is not the first.... but I don't think he takes into consideration that alot of these people in class are pre- op or just recently out of surgery and they don't need to be taking in all the sugar... I will make sure the bariatric leader knows of this, to stop it in its track...

I don't guess I brought the wrong one, I am sure they said G2 but 10 grams of sugar is way to much for me....

I am getting the gastric bypass done.... not the band

Actually, they say no more than 15 grams per meal, but I try to stay under that. It's weird because my NUT said my eating should be more like South Beach. She doesn't want me to ever be in "diet" mentality because that defeats the purpose of having to surgery, so to speak. I'm not sure if that came out right, but I understood what she was saying. I had the surgery so I wouldn't have to constantly "diet". I'm to develop good eating habits now while my pouch is small so that when I have a bigger pouch I'll still made healthy decisions. I have no cravings for sugar stuff, but I'm sure that will change eventually.

I can't tolerate ANY sugar alcohols..they go right through me. And msg makes me dump...and it's bad. I haven't found anything else that makes me sick yet, but I stay away from anything that has more than 10 grams of sugar. Actually, what I eat has way less than that. Sugar is my demon, and right now, I'm finally back to enjoying the way s/f things taste.

Really the only place I get sugar is from fruit, and I'm sticking with berries and a little banana a few times a week. It's so interesting to me that things that my best friend can eat make me deathly ill, but so many things she eats are making her throw up...but I haven't thrown up once since surgery. I'm sure eventually I will...I think it's inevitable, but I almost never threw up before surgery, it's very difficult for me.

Such a weird roller-coaster ride.

But, the one thing we all have in common is our need for support. If I hadn't had you guys...I would probably be very depressed right now. But support makes all the difference in the world. A lot of people in the world aren't supportive of what we've done. They sometimes are almost appalled. But here there in no judgement. Only acceptance and understanding. That's priceless to me.

I thought you were getting the band done, too. I was looking back through some old posts yesterday and couldn't find it.

I drink the G2 once in a great while. I haven't had one for a few weeks. It's a nice alternative if that's all the convenience store has. The orange tastes just like orange jello.

My NUT recommended Special K Protein water. What do you guys think of this? Anyone drink it? I haven't had any yet.

I noticed that Propel has some sugar in it too. But again, my NUT said that was fine. I can barely gag them down though. I'm trying to come up with a good s/f lemonade. I tried crushing some ice yesterday (sno-cone machine) and adding 1/2 lemon and then some s/f davinici's no-flavor syrup. Not good. I may try it with just plain powder splenda today. I love lemonade and could probably drink it all summer.

You know, I wish we could just sample all the s/f drinks out there! LOL I'm tired of wasting money on things I don't like. I know Sam's sometimes has free samples of some of these drinks. Maybe I'll start showing up around noon each day and scoping them out.

did you know you can add protein mix to your coffee... the only catch is you can't add it when it is really hot you have to let it cool a bit before adding it....
because it doesn't mix well at hot temp

These are fabulous especially with summer and hot weather coming. I have tried a lot of protein drinks over the years and most of them made me gag these are really good.
