You hide it well! I'm just hoping for my clothes to look good. Only a good plastic surgeon is ever going to give me flat abs!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm in Heath/Newark area (just east of Columbus) and Dr. Marcus Miller will be doing my surgery at Mt. Carmel West in Columbus. I have prayed about this for a VERY long time and I know this is what I need to do for myself. I have followed the progress of several of you over the last year and am in awe of the success I see here. I can't wait to get to know you all better.

Hi all,

Wow, so many new faces--welcome everyone! Gracey, good luck with your surgery tomorrow--it will probably suck for a few days, but it will get progressively easier after that. Kyla and Mycattaz, I know y'all are so excited to be almost there. Mysti, you're doing so well, and I love the new avatar.

I've been home in Tennessee for the last week and had such a good time. It was hard to get on the plane last night and even harder to drag myself into work this morning. Sigh.

Food-wise, I made mostly very good choices last week, and I'm down almost two pounds. Woohoo! I went shopping with my mom while I was home, and I'm in some 14/16 tops from Lane Bryant and 16W bottoms. Woohoo again!

Today's menu:

b: 1 oz babybel cheese (70 cal)
l: 4 oz barbecued chicken (200 cal), cottage cheese w/ fruit (130 cal)
s: veggies and dip (150 cal)
d: Lean Cuisine (300 cal)

So glad to see everyone is doing well. Keep it up!

Good morning everyone! I made a decision to start drinking plain water last night. I am sick to death of flavored water. So far, it's going great. I just have to have it REALLY cold.

I made my breakfast protein smoothie this morning but I added a teaspoon of instant coffee to it. I feel awake...finally! I know caffeine is a no-no after surgery, but I just can't seem to wake up. So, hopefully having a little in the morning will help me out.

My food was good yesterday. I don't feel like I snacked all after noon like the day before.

Right now I'm working on breaking the habit of not grabbing something to eat when I'm going to watch tv or a movie. It's such an automatic thing for me. But last night when I had the thought to go grab something (even if it was a few nuts) I stopped and asked myself if I was hungry. The answer, no, I'm full. Baby steps...

My son's 8th birthday is on Sunday. I'm trying to figure out what to do about the cake. I don't want to bake one because I'd have to smell it and I just don't trust myself enough yet. I LOVE Wal-Mart cakes but the house wouldn't smell like cake. I'm thinking about buying a small WM cake. We don't need leftovers around here anyway. My daughter can't eat it either since she has celiac disease, so a little cake should be enough for Caleb, Ty and my husband.

I'm really having trouble with keeping up with my house. Laundry, dishes, floors, bills, yada-yada-yada. So much to do, so little energy. I really hope I can start doing more soon. I'm wiped out after about 5 or 10 minutes.

Have a great day, y'all!!!

Hi everyone. Just a quick update. I saw my surgeon this am for the first time! All of my other appointments have been with his nurse practitioner. I met with him this am to go over pre-op stuff and set my dates in stone. If you remember, way back in March, I was a little leary of going to him because my primary doc basically said his bedside manner was terrible, but beyond that he was a good surgeon. Let me just say that today he was one of the nicest doctors I have ever been to! He was friendly, very informative with statistics about the band, and very open to answering all of my questions. I was very happy with the visit and glad that I made the choice to go with him. So...here's the rundown!

My upper GI is next Monday, June 16th I'm worried about this! Has
anyone else had this? If so, tell me the good and bad!

My liquid diet starts June 16th, also. I'll start if after the upper GI. Everyone complains about this, but I'm actually looking forward to it and hopefully dropping another 10 pounds on it before surgery. I can do anything for 2 weeks, right?

My surgery is set for June 30th at 1pm.

I'm starting to get nervous now that everything seems so real!

so glad you like your doctor... I would take great surgeon over bed side manner anytime...

As far as the upper GI, I just went thur mine back in April... do you know if its the baron test... if it is, just remember to drink it when they tell you too.. .take big gulps... don't sip it... and if they give it to thur to you thur a straw, drink it as fast as you can... as soon as you get enough in you they can finish the test and then it will be over with.... and remember to drink plenty of liquids after the test.....

Is your liquid diet full liquids... cream soups stuff like that...

Its funny how surgeons are different... I can stay on my pre-op diet till the day before surgery, and then I do a flush with some stuff and all day before full liquids until 12 midnight... I have to be at the hospital at 6:30 and surgery will be at 8:30

I have my pre admission testing done on June 23...

Are you starting on the 16 too?

that is a good idea, you will be so proud of yourself when this day is over with and you were able to control your urge to eat the cake... KUTGW!

Kyla - that's awesome that you have a date! I thought for sure the liquid diet was going to kill me but, I actually did pretty good on it and I wasn't as hungry as I thought I would be. I lost 6 lbs. that week so that was good.

I had a great idea about my son's birthday! Instead of a cake, I'm going to have cups of s/f jello with whipped topping. Then I'm going to put little Kung-Fu Panda guys on the top! That way me and my daughter can eat too. He won't mind. He's getting a cake at my Mom's house.

I'm not sure about my daily protein amounts. Maybe I'll write down everything I'm eating today and figure it up.

Oops, my bad. I didn't mean upper GI. I was in a hurry with wishful thinking that's all it was! I have an EGD that I have to do under sedation.

My liquid diet is 2 protein shakes during the day, one 4oz piece of meat for dinner with veggies on the side.

Yup, I start my liquid diet on the 16th, after the EGD. Sounds like we're on the same page!

Thanks! I hope I'm not too hungry. It would be so much easier if I wasn't! The s/f jello is a great idea! You could also do s/f pudding cups? I think they only have 60 calories in a cup. I know I would have a problem with cake! My Dad's b-day was Sunday and I had a piece of cake at the party. It was just too good to resist!

I love edamame!!! I got hooked on it after McDonald's started putting it in their salads. For the longest time I couldn't find it at the store in the veggie section. I have been able to find it in frozen foods once or twice. Now (at Wal-Mart) they're putting it in the organic/tofu food section. I think it's a soy bean, that's why.

I am so sick of being tired! I keep having to lay down around 2 or 3 everyday. I took an hour nap today and then laid in the bed another hour to just wake up.

I'm 3 weeks post-op...seems like I wouldn't have this problem. Anyone know if this is "normal"?

Thanks!

Oh the EGD is a breeze... i was so nervous for mine.. well really scared to death... they made me very comfortable when I got in there, I told them I was scared to death... expecially looking at all the equipement around and not knowing what was going to happen...lol

they got me ready for the IV before I went in... she started the medicine to put me to sleep without me even knowing it.. or at least I don't remember her saying anything... I vagly remember them tell me to swallow.... and felt nothing... As soon as I heard that it seemed I was waking up in the recovery room, no memory of anything.... I really got myself worked up for nothing.... Shortly after waking they had me up in a chair and soon I went home... they did tell you that you needed someone with you to take you home right.... I was so tired the first day...

the meds they give you to put you to sleep, might make you tired the first few days, maybe even up to a week.... and maybe not....

you will do fine..... and it will be over in a flash....

have you ever use fitday.... you can put in every thing you are eating and find out where your protein is.... also this could be the norm with the anestetic they gave you for surgery.... and because this is a major surgery.... You could call the doctors office and talk to the nurse and ask her opion
