Sigh...feeling wilted at 10pm in SoCal...

Did not eat nearly enough fish and eggs today, but I'm filling my water bottles for slurping all night and that's that. Tomorrow is another day. Maybe I'll lose and maybe not. I can't manage another bit of fish and eggs today. Not one!

Oddly, I toyed with the notion of having a bowl of cereal and milk as I put up the fish and eggs that I cannot manage another bite of - and I almost gave in.

How come I can always manage to find space for carbs? What's up with that? Protein never goes down that easy, for me. I've been wedging in bite after bite of fish and eggs all day - well, since I made up the food at noon or so. Take a bite and cap the container. Take another bite and cap the container. Not bad food, just so hard to wedge more protein into me when I feel so FULL.

But wave a carby temptation at me and - behold! - I've got space for THAT!

What a jerk, what a dismal carbaholic. Oh, I did not give in, except to the cayenne peanuts that I found when I was making up my fish and eggs today. But that was 2oz of peanuts and cayenne. Not likely to cause much problem.

Anyway, I'm off to dreamland, dreaming of waking up with an agile slim body that moves gracefully. Dreams are what sustain us, in the face of reality!

Sweet dream, folks. Sweet graceful dreams! I've been having a film fest of Audrey Hepburn and William Holden, in their slim graceful youth. What fun! "Paris When It Sizzles" is a delicious distraction from all sorts of stuff. Fun!

Hotter than hades here

The scale finally budged down again. First it budged 2 pounds around 5/26, then NOTHING until this morning. This morning was FINALLY another 1.5 lbs. I really need bigger whooshes or at least closer ones to keep this up. Really, all I wanted out of this was to feel stronger. I don’t care what I look like, and I’ve always been pretty healthy except for the weight; looking at things like blood pressure, cholesterol, and the ability to keep up w/ non overweight people.

I need to be better about posting here. I joined Cleo’s mid year resolution challenge and have been posting there. Then just Friday I found a thread about swimming laps and started posting there. But I’m still reading about all you guys! I’m keeping up!

As far as getting stronger goes, on Sunday I timed my laps and am really pleased! I did a mile in 32 min. I really need to start keeping track. I think progress will motivate me to keep at it, and work towards getting in flip turns at least half the time; which will cause a substantial drop in my time, which will be even more motivating. On Saturday I went swimming too. W/ the stolen car I had to take the bus, and DRASTICALLY underestimated how long it would take to get to the Y. By the time I got there I only had 10 min or so to swim to make my bus. I decided to do what I could as fast as I could. I did a half mile in 17 min, and skipped my shower to make the bus.

It’s always true – I am built for distance rather than speed!! In high school the 200 mark of my 500 (meter freestyle) was FASTER than my 200 time! Apparently it’s still true; my half mile time from Saturday was SLOWER than half my mile time Sunday! At any rate I am getting stronger, which is what I really want out of this. I need to focus on that. Oh, and as proof that I don’t care what I look like? I had to catch that bus on Saturday to make an appointment to cut off all my hair. It looks horrible, but w/ the heat and spending close to 15 min twice a day getting tangles out after a shower – I just couldn’t take it anymore! I chopped it all off. Now it is frizzing up into a curly mess. I look like a dirty blond little orphan annie. Progress w/ exercise, will mean progress w/ weight loss – or at least it did this weekend. That will motivate me to eat better too. I don't eat horribly, I just need to eat veggies more consistently (not necessarily more, just more often); and NOT cheat when it comes to social events. I can handle being on plan, mostly; until the weekend rolls around. Happy hours, dinner out, and Sunday dinner at home w/ my friends for "family dinner" kill me! I ate actual bread and had actual sugar in a mojito when we went out for Cuban food on Friday. The mojitos weren't even as good as they used to be at this place. If I hadn't gone straight from swimming I probably could have skipped the bread. I'm always STARVING after I swim - so is the guy I sometimes swim w/. We usually swim on Fridays then go to dinner w/ his girlfriend and whoever else we can round up.

I ordered an iPod shuffle too I can't even tell you how excited I am! I already have a big iPod, but I ordered a waterproof case and waterproof headphones to use while I swim. I wasn’t about to drop my 30 gig underwater to see how water tight the case actually is. I figure a $50 shuffle won’t make me cry if it doesn’t work. I want to compile some fast playlists to see if that influences me to speed up a bit too.

W/ the heat, lack of car, and it being exercise NOT involving the pool I was giving myself permission to take today off exercise wise. It would be the first time to try the Mon/Wed spinning class. Which I have been putting off for MONTHS. But after sitting around waiting for the scale to move for 2 weeks I want to see if I can keep the momentum going. I hate this 2 week stall then lose a pound or two. I need constant losses for motivation, or at least bigger whooshes when they come!! I will at least be eating well in the coming week, we stocked up at the Amish market, which is basically a butcher.

good morning all,

well I have found if I do pork rinds I dont lose at all, how strange is that? Why is that? Even if I keep calories fairlly low..so I didnt make my goal by 1/2 pound..HOWEVER I am now in TwoTown and at 19.5 pounds lost.So not bad for the beginning.

I need to get some exercise now though I do get bored very easily and want to do SOMETHING..I may go visit the Y today and find out rates for low income/disabled incomes...though probably wont join till school is back in session and its not so crowded.

i am loving this CO..though I just eat it right from the jar..I love the taste and how it feels in my mouth..though I have to watch I could overdo it easily and..it makes me crave it..so thats not so good.

happy LC days

25 Ways To Add Movement To Your Day
from wgal.com
submitted by creepette

Here's a starter list of 25 life "activating" strategies:

* Don't use the nearest bathroom. Use one that requires you to walk a bit, preferably up or down some stairs.
* Balance on one foot while brushing your teeth. Balance on the other foot while combing your hair.
* Park in the furthest space.
* Move with your kids. Instead of just watching soccer practice, walk up and down the sidelines. Join in your child's karate class. At the playground, get off the bench and swing, climb, hang and slide.
* Hide your TV remote, so you have to get up and walk across the room to push the buttons.
* Never take an elevator fewer than three flights, take the stairs.
* Get rid of your electric can opener and use a manual one.
* Turn your coffee break into a walk break. Walk to a distant vending machine, cafeteria or coffee shop to get your snack.
* Stretch or walk while you're talking on the (cordless) phone, preferably with a headset.
* Set an "activity" timer or program your computer to remind you to take periodic walking and/or stretching breaks.
* Take a five-minute walk before you sit down to eat.
* Walk or bike to do errands instead of driving.
* Take a minute to stretch your arms, legs, back, shoulders and neck whenever you get up from sitting or lying down.
* Sweep your floors, patio and/or front walk every day.
* During TV commercials, get up and walk or get down and stretch.
* Socialize actively. Instead of sitting and talking, go for a walk with family and/or friends. Or go bowling, play Ping-Pong, basketball, bocce ball or line dancing.
* Put your favorite mug on a very low shelf, so you'll have to squat down to get it out and put it back.
* Take your dog for a walk every day. If you don't have a dog, borrow your neighbor's, or just walk your "inner dog."
* Practice "aerobic shopping" by taking a lap around the mall or grocery store before you go into a store or put an item in your cart.
* Avoid "drive-thrus." Park your car and walk in.
* Practice good posture when you're forced to wait in line. Stand firmly on both feet and try to raise the top of your head to touch an imaginary hand held a quarter-inch above you. Let your spine extend, stomach lift, shoulders relax and arms fall at your sides.
* Don't automatically drive. If the dry cleaner is across the parking lot from the bank, walk there. (Wear decent walking shoes or keep a good pair in your car.)
* Install a chin-up bar in a convenient doorway, then use it often to chin-up, pull-up or simply hang.
* Try musical housework. Put on dancing music and sweep, vacuum or wash windows to the beat.
* Every time you hear a bell ring (phone bell, doorbell, church bell, etc.) take a deep breath and smile. Think of it as "mouth yoga" that relaxes hundreds of muscles in your face. And it's contagious, so pass it on.

Thanks for posting the article Sharon! I have had reactive hypoglcemia for about 25 years - before it really had a name. There is so much more information now about it than way back then. I have always been able to go for long periods of time without eating not your normal symptoms. But if I eat something starch or sugar laden and I would be horribly sick. I have controlled by weight and sympton using low carb. My weight is back up and I'm having to fight harden to get it off now. It seems when I turned 50 last year I instantly gained 15 pounds!

New battle plan...in my war against blubber...

Settling for kudos - like tatty medals given to those who survive a battle action or who succumb with distinction - for dodging carby temptations yesterday, as I failed to eat sufficient protein and surely missed my BMR by more than a few calories, I am working on a new battle plan for hitting my targets - BMR:2423cals, 182gProtein - while holding carbs to 5% of my caloric intake.

I can DO this. It's NOT brain surgery. It's just EATING (for gawd's sake). Fixing, chewing, swallowing. I.CAN.DO.THIS!

The new battle plan? Ah, as I snarfled my WPP's hot slosh this morning (which I skipped doing yesterday, probably my first mistake of a ditzy day), I wrote it into my food diary - 43gProtein (1/4 of my targeted 182gProtein) and 800cals (1/3 of my targeted BMR:2423cals) - and it dawned on me that rating each meal as some portion of a day's targeted goal is a way to stay abreast of my plan to arrive at sunset with good LC numbers. Doing this as I track my intake might help me achieve my day's goals. Yay for that!

I'm tired of losing battles daily - and still hoping to win a war against blubber.

just got home from a run to WalMart, had to restock some of my quickie foods. Still cant find my fav veggie..Kohrabi at the Walmart..have to go to the fancy HEB I guess. I did raise a few but have ate them already...such a nice crunch they have..anyway..sitting here now noshing on some grated raw cabbage, almost as good as my Kohlrabi.

I wanted to get those stretch bands I remember someone on here mentioned as a good sitting exercise so I got the entire set at WalMart..already did a few repetitions while I was reading the instructions. Should be good when I am watching tv or something easy..I have to have something I can do till my surgical hernia is fixed and my intestinal resections due to 3 blockages < a product of my chrons disease> are removed. The pain limits many exercises I would do. But I see the surgeon again on the 18th - hopefully she will be happy with my progress on weight loss...

I did get the WalMart CO while I was out ...will see how it compare to the Nutiva from the health food store. Price was cheaper. i just finished off some SF Jello and Cream Cheese, can anything get better tasting that that ??? I must be nuts but it was so much better than Ice cream ever was..

ok...as you can tell I have too much energy, dont want to cook or clean and the heat outside prohibits me running around outdoors to keep out of trouble...guess I will go see what Book I can put my nose into..

Interesting thread, about FAT as a high-energy food...

All of a sudden, I 'get it' about why fat has more calories - it has more energy!

If you are counting calories, then you would think about cutting the fat so you would be ingesting fewer calories. BUT if you are trying to keep your energy up while you are losing weight, then you NEED ENERGY-DENSE FOODS!

SOOOO, why tell people to cut the fat in their diet?? They would need to eat MORE to meet their energy needs! ESPECIALLY if they are working out too!!!

Hi Deb and the rest of you to.
BOy its hot here, is it hot to where you all are?
Our pool water was 90 deg. yesterday, felt like a hot bath when I got in it.

Am taking all my new medication the doctor gave me on Friday so i am praying it will help me better. He said it may take a week or so before I feel any difference so I am waiting. I did sleep better last night to, didn't hurt so bad as I usually do at night.

My cat brought me a lizard this morning. Since she has her new cat door she comes in and out . One day she brought in a moth. Does your cats bring you gifts like that?
I heard they do that because they love you.

My eating is going ok today. I goof up sometimes but not as often as I was doing.
Want so bad to get this weight off me. I have been getting in my pool everyday doing exercises and swimming some to so hopely the fat will begin coming off better than it has been. I go so inactive over the winter season.

Good evening all,
I have felt yuck today I think I may be getting a bladder infection.
I ate on track at Mom's yesterday. I gave all my yummy crunchy fried chicken skin to DH. He was in heaven. I also ate 3-4 tbs of pulled pork bbq.
I ate 2oz of cheddar for breakfast and 2 grilled hamburgers with cheese and dill slices and mustard.
Today I ate 1 burger for breakfast and 1 for lunch. I don't feel like eating and nothing sounds good. I am seriously contemplating getting in my bed and it is only 6:00 pm. Thank goodness Gavin was a good boy today.
Hoping for a better day tomorrow,
Jean

There was a time (a week ago, before I started Atkins) that I would have bought a bucket of chicken skin from kfc if they sold it...

Hey Ms Trudy,

I am using the CO and losing..but I have to watch what I eat just like always, certain things still stall me/stop me from losing..but at least the scale is always the same or less <if I stay away from Pork Rinds>.

Personally though I just love the taste of the stuff and if it does all the added things I have read online it does...just more pluses.

It might have been water

I did the stationary bike indoors last night, but it is hot as the styx valley here! Seriously a 3 day heat advisory at like 96 everyday PLUS humidity. I love where I live, my job, my friends, adn my neighbors, but I HATE DC's weather!! I sweat my butt off - apparently literally!

I lost another 2 pounds!!

That's plus a pound and a half yesterday. I was soooooo frustrated, I don't think I had lost anything since May 22nd or so before that!

It's a sad fact since I hate every minute of it, but I think I might need to do cardio everyday. I didn't finally get myself to the Monday Spin class I've been wanting to try; but I did go to the crappy, stinky, little gym in my apartment complex to do the stationary bike last night. Another 2 pounds down and I will totally keep the momentum going!

I don't know how that translates into the real world (with hills and traffic) for speed. But it has hand sensors for your heart rate, and I just kept my heart rate in the cardio range. I did 45 min (w/ a little added for cool down) and that came out to 17 miles.

W/o the car it will be REAL convienent to get in a couple of days a week there. I still FAR prefer swimming, so the Y won't be out all together. After all if them hiring me really works out it will be free!!

I think I ate better too. I've been trying the egg cream for breakfast. It's hard to get down, but certainly more calories and more like real food than my usual cup of coffee! And I had some fage yogurt before the bike, regular dinner and even desert to try to up the calories and fat for the BMR theroy. Who's to say what actually did it? At this point, I don't care - I'm not changing a thing and just hope it keeps working!!

I do not envy your heat and humidity. Our daughter and I were in DC for a class trip years ago. We got there on 6/10 and it was the kind of weather you are having now. I don't know how I survived, but was probably many pounds less than I am now. We walked, walked, and walked some more. 'bout died from the humidity.

When we flew back to Mpls/St. Paul, we circled and circled. Then had to fly back and land in Chicago due to tornadoes and storms. Pilot wouldn't land here. We all slept on the airport floor. ahh, memories.

Your city is awesome, though. Is it hot and humid all summer long?

All summer

pretty much - it's the yucky kind of heat that you feel how thick the air is around you, and you want a shower every couple of hours. Nevermind twice a day. I usually take 2, one before work int he morning, and after the gym. But you get to wanting one as soon as you get home and can settle into air conditioning for the night.

DC was a swamp before they drained it to build the city. And it's just yucky like that everywhere. It even smells gross and damp in Rock Creek Park or anywhere that stuff gorwns and holds all the moisture in.

I don't know how peple play in the firm or hill softball leagues on the mall all summer. I have a freind who runs her firm's team, and I'll usually volunteer to be a an extra girl (you need a minimum to play or else you forfeit) later in September at the end of the season when the worst of it had passed.

My friends and I always do 4th of July at the Jefferson for 2 reasons. 1) real bathrooms, and 2) AC inside the memorial if you ever really can't take the heat

Skeopple - I forgot to mention that I LOVE your signature quote about Cleo's mid year resolution! Making up 20 lbs per week to "catch up" that is SUCH my mentality sometimes!!
