I had a GREAT day I forgot to add!

I joined Curves' Avon Fitness Challenge so I got 30 days for $30! I went in today and they showed me around and I tried a few of the machines. The ladies were AWESOME...they must be a regular group of Saturday goers.

When I left several had walked about before me and as I walked by one of them said "hope to see you again"...I that was so SWEET!

AND The BIG thing was , I want to a store that I frequent and this really sweet older man, is always so nice and friendly to everyone said good morning. Then as I was looking at something I looked up and it was looking at me w/ his head kinda cocked to the side.

I am Like "OMG, what" in my head of course.

He has the cutest accent and says "you, you lost some weight" I said YES I did, TY for noticing.

He told me it was "up here" pointing to his head! When I checked out he said "Keep at it"....

I only lost like 13lbs so I never thought anyone would really notice.

Pretty COOL!!!!

Hi all,

Well after losing well, now I have not lost in about 4 days..not a bit..was even up 2 pounds one day...GRRRR...even when I upped calories, downed calories, lowered carbs, and avoided pork rinds...nada...so today has not been a good day for me...well not like others..I have eaten sf jello, cream cheese and pork rinds today..which I suspect are stallers for me...

so far today have had 1300 calories and 11 g of carbs...going to have some chicken salad for supper...but dont look for tomorrow to bring any pounds down...maybe if I can get energized can do some walk away the pounds tapes before bed.

4gotn1 I will be in the hospital 5-7 days. I probably wont be on low carb, the nature of the surgery is such that eating or drinking anything is not something I can do for most of my stay. I may have food the last day or 2 I am there. Thankfully the tube down the nose to keep my stomach pumped of anything is not done as much or as long.

I am sorry! I could not stand it. I hated it and about went nutz with my son being with his dad a week. Of course, that is when he was 18 months and previous experience of him not being fed regularly by his dad made me all week. It went ok though because I taught my son's first real word had to be "hungry" so his dad could take the hint.

Got on the scale today, fully expecting to see 60# since last week's weigh-in. Hot weather weighs me down, makes me feel like a beached whale. I'm still bOunCing just above 400# as if I am afraid to allow myself to slip into 3-dom. Hot weather adds to the burden of eating. All my tummy wants is easy cold stuff, like ice cream and sherbet and that sort of stuff. Clearly NOT on my LC plan. I'm hoping that a chilled HB egg will do. Might be the summer of chilled HB eggs as a substitute for all sorts of carby cold things. Icy eggs? Yuppers!
How about cantaloupe or strawberries? Lunch meat, etc. Those are all cool weather eats. I lose pretty well even with eating 1/2 cantaloupe a day. YMMV, but it is a nice cold substitute for ice cream or sherbet.

Congratulations! It must have been off a noticeable place. I slim down in my lower belly first, which believe me, makes me happy as a clam. Today I got in the car and had to move the seat back up because I was too far away, and I actually had room to do it! So it is those small victories that keep us going and make it worth it.

Oh goodness! We all have fluctuations! I was down 15 lbs last week and now I am up 4! I didn't do anything different... TOM is just here. When I saw the number up though, I figured it was either that or lack of sleep can and will make you gain weight. That and not eating regularly. I have all those problems.

So it can be any number of things, just stay with your chosen WOE and it will move again. It took me a long time to realize this. And I am better for it.

Hi Ladies. I used to go to Curves, too, 4gotten1... I made it around the curcuit twice - but I was happy when it was done... (I weighed about 360 when I started at Curves). True, they don't like to hear about going around more than twice - but if it isn't busy, what's the harm? I never did it - I hate exercise - why do more?!?!? I never did the one machine where it looks kinda like something I'd see in a GYN office... I only went 2-3 times a week when I went...between work and home life and the hours they were open that was all I could really manage. For me, it was a good starting-out workout and I would have been happy there well into my weight loss. Exercising helped me - I have to get back into it...

Zer - Girl, don't make me fly myself out there!!! Buy some sf drink mix (crystal light or similar) and make your own ice pops/slushies/etc... Make your hot sloshes cold slushes, and for goodness sakes, drink ice water! Eat salads and cold meats and mentally prepare yourself to go under 400. You are worth it and you can do it!

Tonight I made a LC "egg custard" type "pie." Cream cheese, butter, cream, splenda, and vanilla - the pan sat in a water bath while cooking. I was supposed to wait until it was cold but didn't - so far its pretty tasty! Can't wait until the AM when it is cold...

You ladies have a great night!

it was a very hard day....there were times when i gave in to ice cream and times when i made good LC choices...i think i went over my allotted calories simply by nibbling...i didnt eat a single thing until after noon and sort of nibbled my way through the rest of the day....i kept myself busy so i wouldnt be too sad i dont like to talk much about it because it just makes me sadder

highest point on the scale today was 200, lowest was 180 and im reading it by standing the exact same way every time...someone said to take the highest number though, which was 200....im exhausted, its' 11 p.m. and i've been up since 5 a.m.

Alaska, if I were you, I'd make a note SOMEWHERE of the 20# span your scale gives you on a single day. Over time, maybe a pattern will show up. I put a time next to my weight, on days when I wait to weigh, just in case a late-day weight is skewed. I'm not always able to tote a scale to the bathroom floor the first thing in the morning, which I believe is best time for ME to weigh.

Can I offer you a salute for being a brave mommy and sending your child off to spend time with dad? As hard as it is for you to let go, I hope you know that it is good for both of them to have this time at this age. What is your set-up for keeping in touch? My sister says her older daughter (now in a 2d marriage with a 2yr-old) has daily phone contact with her firstborn, who lives with dad and dad's new wife/babies. Firstborn is now 15 and has lived with her dad since the couple split up.

Distance has given the mother-daughter twosome a set daily update that many moms never have with a child living at home. I hope you will discover a depth of communication with your son as you do email or phone on a regular basis. Might be the beginning of a different sort of relationship than you'd have with a boy living at home. Try to see the ways in which this distance CAN strengthen the bonds you and your son have.

That said, I want to share my own news: I just cooked myself some HB eggs at 3am, which I consider an unusual behavior and a good sign for my LC life. Yesterday I wanted a HB egg but did not have what it took to get to the kitchen to do the food fixing that I'd like to do. As I thought about how often I delay starting to do a task, I realized that I pile too many things on at once. Today I begin to simplify - so that I can do one thing at a time. I left all the stuff that I'd like to haul to the kitchen with me - all the laundry and the makings for a fishy salad that I often do at the same time, to save a trip. All I did was to cook up a pan full of eggs, most of which went into the fridge for eating during the day today. Two HB eggs came back with me to the room, for a protein-fat fix during my wakeful predawn time.

What I think is that I can maybe go out of the house to do a single task, but that planning to do several tasks makes me dread the effort. So, I'll try to stay calm about doing a single task at a time, instead of piling tasks high and then delaying doing anything because I cannot face a full list of tasks at once.

I know. Saving gas by doing several tasks on an outing is a Good Thing.

But I dread the number of times I must get in and out of the car when I go out, as each time I leave the car is full of anxiety for me. I'll tote trash to the car, but maybe won't stop at the dumpster each time I tote trash out. It's all paper, so no harm in letting my trunk carry it until I can make an effort to empty the trunk.

Anyway, I think this will help me manage to do more stuff daily than I have been managing. If I can do one housekeeping task daily, I am ahead of the game. Might not hurt me to leave home more often anyway - in spite of using more gas - as a way of catching some sunshine. As it is, I feel the sun's rays about one day a month. That's about how often I get up and OUT. Better to get more rays, even if it seems less economical to start up the car once a week instead of once a month. Well, that's the epiphany for today.

Meanwhile, I'm enjoying a nice LC snack of a HB egg. Aren't eggs amazing?

Zer I do alot of one task things... I might go and make bed and go and sit a while.. then next time I get up I might run the vacuum in one room and go and sit for a while... I take alot of breaks and it might take me a while to get things done, but they do get done...

when I first get up in the morning, I start my coffee and off I go to the computer to sit down... I have a wheel chair I sit in at the computer... it helps me get my back straighted out so I can get up and do something... I can't do anything until it quits hurting from laying in bed, cause I can't straighten out or stand up straight without pain....

remember each time you move you burn a few calories and strengthen musles

have you ever consider going to a pool and working out.... I don't wear a swim suit, instead I have a pair of shorts that go down past my knees and a big tshirt I wear..... it amazed me the first time I went, yes at first I was sore alittle from doing the excercises... but as time went on, i got stronger.. i could tell my legs felt stronger, I had alittle more energy..... and plus it got me out of the house....

at the pool I go to I take a arthritis class, its just alot of stretching and you feel weighless in the pool.... and all the women are older then me ... some even come in with walkers and one with a scooter to get there..... I think it would do you a world of good... build stamina

most insurances or maybe I should say alot of them will help pay for a membership..... maybe you could get your doctor to write a prescription for a few days so you could learn some exercises to do to strenthen you...

Happy Sunday Folks,
I have had a nice weekend and have eaten on track the whole time. I have been restarted for a month now but don't see much change except I am not swelling nearly as bad. I have not had much energy this weekend and have slept a good bit more than usual. My daughter wanted to know if I was feeling ok cause she has called twice and I was asleep both times. I am a believer in listening to your body and mine just needed some extra sleep.
Good job on the eggs Zer.
Stay strong Alaskan, it is a good thing for your son to have a good relationship with both parents.
I am thinking of all my friends, hope each one of you has a good successful day.
Jean

I felt it in my waist... and seen it a little in my face/chin... I NEED it in my stomach...It is the biggest part of me too! It is so big I couldn't even measure with a normal measuring tape I had to go to the Joann's and get a larger one. I think my stomach ( don't have my measurements in front of me ) was 60 something!

It is funny you are the 2nd person to mention the steering wheel! Funny how we all think a like. I love it when I get in and my belly isn't rubbing. I PRAY for that again! I have a truck and the seat is back as far as it will go and I am still rubbing during that TOM!

Hot Tamale I DID that machine! My calves are so big they didn't totally fit in the machine! She said some people bring the legs together first and then sit back. Well I fell back, got on leg in and then couldn't get the other leg wide enough to get it in and my belly was to big to lean up and grab so she grabbed it for me. Of course I was nervous and wanting to try and NOT look like I was having problems....and it never fails the harder you try to look cool and confident the more that goes wrong. Once I don't have someone standing right there with me I will feel like experimenting a bit.

The only thing that gave me trouble was the stepper, I really started getting breathless doing that one. I will ask tomorrow if I can just skip it or do what I can.

I am determined to go TWICE! Even if I have to ask them to take a break in between!

I didn't see anyone carrying water bottles, it is so fast moving they probably can't. That is problem because I get such dry mouth. I couldn't spit to put a fire out on my own foot!

Any suggestions!

That pies sounds AWESOME!

Alaskan: TAKE THAT SCALE BACK! Life is too short...don't put yourself through that emotional abuse every day! NO way that thing should be that off! You paid good money for it. It is one thing for it not be 100% accurate but to be that off....NO WAY! Girl get what you paid for!

Zer Did you see my post about collage video dot com? They have sitting exercises you can do! You might want to check them out. It might help you with getting some movement in at your own pace, at home! It is an AWESOME discovery of yours and I pray you can stick with it. I too put too much in one day ( after putting several things off at one time) I set myself up for failure. The reason I didn't do them in the first place was because they were too taxing. So what in the world makes me think I can do them ALL in one day! It is really crazy thinking!

I also agree w/ more trips OUT even if it costs more gas. I wasn't going to go to curves because of that and I didn't want to the put the miles on my granddad's truck ( he loved his truck and passed away a little over a year ago. He was more of a dad to me than my dad) but I realized that getting out and moving, taking time to focus on ME was the best thing I could do for myself and MY granddad would want me to fight for my health!

Okay

1st - Do you really think it is enough for as much weight as i have to lose and toning I should/need to do? Sure combined with walking on your off days! sometimes Curves workouts can burn up to 500 calories a session!(depending on your weight and how hard you workout)

2nd - Did you make it through the whole circuit the first time? They mentioned, they might only take me once. I guess cuz I am so big! i did just 2 rounds the first day(we only had 8 machines at the time so that was 2/3 of the circuit) i could have done a lot more(i thought) but it was only the adrenaline of being new and nervous!

3rd - How often do you go? I would like to do 6 days a week but w/ gas I might only get in the 3 I have to for the study. lately i have been skipping but i put it down to school being out and gas being so high(my club is almost 30 miles away) mostly it's lazy! YUP 3x a week normally...when we are trying to reach a landmark(100 workouts etc.) some of us go more up to 6 days! start out with your 3 at your hardest and walk or other cardio in between

4th - I asked about doing it for more than 2 times and they said that wasn't allowed. lol Have you ever done it? (no-no)*wags finger* it's a total of 24 machines so it sounds like you guys have 11 or 12 machines so 2 x around! 24machines+24 recovery stations=24 minutes + 6 minutes of stretching=30 minutes workout! as they say if you think you can DO more than 24 machines you ain't working those machines hard enough!

I tried the push away type machine, the one w/ your legs apart and you bring them together and then apart, the stepper and the glut machine. The only thing that bothered me was the stepper. This month's theme was a carnival or something! Not sure what was happening. So what will happen during the "camp"

also does yours do a monthly shirt? What size do they come in?

They had an order form for the Camp shirt for July but I saw someone's bingo card and it said "wore shirt of the month" lol!

It was probably like 11 or 12 machines...I was surprised, I had went to another curves a few years ago just to inquiry about prices and they only had like 6 or 8.

Thank you for CollageVideo, and I've bookmarked it for future study. I do not do any exercise on a regular basis and I know that it is important to work all our muscles, even if just for range of motion, as we age. Thanks for helping!

Yes, I believe I shall gain emotional strength by doing - even if I do one task at a time and call it a day. Just waking up at 9am and recalling that I got up at 3am and did something useful (boiling up a pan of eggs) gives me a glow! This feels good, especially after days of planning how to manage that small task while running a wash (nearby room) and preparing salmon salad (at a table in the nearby dining area). Planning wore me out, so I did nothing at all. Went days without accomplishing much.

Oh, I went online and paid bills and thrashed out a conflict from 2002 that came up in a discovery of mine that some blogger was alluding to me as a problematical person. I asked her - a stranger - for particulars pertaining to a comment or series of comments in her blog a year or more ago - a site that came to my attention when I googled my name - and the blogger (who apparently remembers me better than I recall her) pointed me to a site I wrote on between 2001 and 2003. So I rejoined that site and asked anyone who knew how I had become notorious to help me track back to find out how a relative stranger to me might still be annoyed at me, years after I gave up the site. That was an interesting journey back to a circle of online folks who act as if they all remember me - not nicely. Imagine that! We are halfway through 2008, and I am remembered (not nicely) as being different from them in ways that they STILL find worth discussing. What an odd thing notoriety is.

So I took care of that - a visit to yesteryear and a clique of bizarre folk - while handling UPS's failure to deliver a pkg on 6/9 - and all the calls and emails that THAT missing pkg has necessitated. Monday (6/23 is the day that Netrition's excellent CSRep will initiate a tracer to discover where my $100 of VCO has gone to. The school office will be open again on Monday, and UPS will explore why my pkg was dumped there in spite of an address that says clearly "NOT SCHOOL OFFICE" as a guide for the delivery of pkgs to me.

After an investigation, Netrition will send a new pkg - possibly by a carrier other than UPS - and I shall replenish my VCO. I love Netrition. Nice folks!

So even as I do "no tasks", there are things that get done, somehow.

Sometimes I get down on myself, listing only my shortcomings. Bad of me!

Oh, thank you for showing me that I am not alone in discovering that a single task leaves me puffing. Just pulling my bed apart and putting it back again is a MAJOR task. Fresh sheets are so nice.

have you ever consider going to a pool and working out....
Last year I looked into finding a pool that allows zero climbing to get in and out. There's a proper name for it, for folks who cannot do steps. I'v got no lift in my legs. In talking with numerous therapy pools, I did not find a single one that has a ramp. One has a lift, but the weight limit is below my weight. Our pool is available year round, but I cannot manage the steps or the ladders. When I can do steps, I shall have access 24/7 to a lovely pool, right at home. Until then, I am afraid that I'd have to call 911 to be hauled out as deadweight on handsome young men. Not a nice prospect.

I do recall the pleasure of being relatively weightless in the water. Nice!!! Not as nice was the awareness of coming back to earth gravity as I lift my body up out of the water and sit poolside to give my thunking heart a chance to adapt to the change in weight. Bad feeling, listening to my heart work so hard to pump. When my heart was adapted, I'd struggle to get to my knees and then to rise. That was years ago, when my left leg was still strong and my hip was not yet a painful pinched joint. Today I could not rise like that, on my left leg along, as I did so often years ago. What I shall need to get out of our pool here might be a portable step device that offers handholds for both arms. I think that's a possible idea for a smaller me. Someday. Maybe.

Alaskan - Have you had a chance to get some rest today after yesterday's exhaustion? No doubt missing your son is contributing to that. I like Zer's idea of calling with an appointed time every day, and while those calls might feel a little forced or overdone at first, it could well lead you both into a terrific relationship.

4gotn1 - Anytime on the Curves circuit it's ok to step off and go take a sip from your water bottle. Just keep your legs moving (march in place if you can to keep in the groove ). You really can't carry a water bottle around the circuit with you because you need your hands every other machine and it would get in your way and slow you down. Yes, I used to go to Curves - it's how I went from 308-288, but somehow I fell away.

Zer - I've been pushing myself to do my bigger errands - grocery, wallyworld, sams, etc. - on my day off. But by the time I get home and unload the car, I'm too exhausted to do anything with the stuff I bought! I guess we need to forget the gas prices and just get 1 thing done at a time.

to everybody!

thank you yes i do feel better than yesterday but it's still a hard adjustment...its' something that both his dad and i have to handle though, him letting him go to come here, and me vice versa...his dad and i get along really well and much better than when we were married LOL

daniel has always come here for the summers and spent school years with his dad farther north, which is how we wanted it to be, because daniel has ADHD and the school there was smaller and more willing to go out of their way to work with him....as he's grown older, we've taken him off the ADHD meds and seemed to grow up or out of it more so this just-past school year he stayed here with me to try a larger school, the one that i work at...he did just fine, As and Bs and never once in trouble

every time i send him back i try to talk up the positives of what he gets to do up there...his dad is wonderful at raising him and i have no concerns there...daniel can sometimes get really sensitive and locked into an emotional meltdown so we work alot on him breathing and calming down and i try not to make a big deal over his leaving so it wont send him into a tailspin....we COULD have had a big sleepover with friends or a pizza party or something but i chose not to because it will just reinforce to him that he has to leave and he will be an utter emotional WRECK for days...

he always takes his "stuffies" as he calls his stuffed animals and they travel back and forth on the plane with him and that helps him....he called me as soon as he got off the plane up north yesterday and then i didnt call him last night

if i call him every day, it just makes it really hard for him to adapt to being with his dad and his other friends/family up there and all he does is miss mom so i'm going to call him tonight...and then maybe in two days...etc...i try to call a few times a week and i always send him boxes of stuff....holidays, etc and also just fun stuff for him....this is the first year he has an email too so i will email him but he doesnt have much of a way to get online though

so thats how we handle that, and we've been doing it this way for years now and it seems to work out fine....he will be there for the summer and maybe for the school year
