hey all

DES - you are truly inspiring, I will be coming back again and again to see your pictures to keep myself motivated!

Well I had a surgeons appointment today. I go for Preop on July 3rd, and EKG, then the surgery will be either July 15 or 18th. They will fix my surgical hernia with pigskin this time instead of the plastic mesh, less likely to get infected and will adhere better to the human body. They will do a horizontal cut over the hernia, cut out the intestines that are closing and then fix the hernia without having to go into my scar tissue from previous surgeries. Then I will have to have weekly treatments from now on with an IV at the hospital for an hour or more.

Thats about it for that. My daughter told me today my clothes are starting to look baggy on me..guess I can wear the smaller/tighter clothes more now.

Doing ok with staying on plan. Today I thought would be a problem but so far it hasnt..Hopefully will drop some more tomorrow...

Hugs
Vicki

If you take even a little extra and put them into CD's the interest back will help accrue that kind of money in the next 4 years. Especially if you take your original investment and just keep reinvesting at a higher amount. The more the CD, the more interest you earn. I know a lady that bought a new car by doing this over the course of a couple of years. Which just goes to show that people that aren't all there, aren't stupid.

People suck. I am sorry to hear about this. I would have figured them to steal gas more than skates. That is what they are doing around here.

Update

Congratulations Des! My roommate and an old roommate are both getting married this fall. One of those wedding promises to be an amazing time for everyone attending. I hope your day is great too!

I have a friend who’s been dating the same guy for like 4 years now, and is DYING to get engaged. Her theory is that if we all start dating the guy will feel like our group of friends is predominately couples now and go for it. I could really live w/o that pressure to date!! I don’t have parents pressuring me to get married and have kids, but it’s not like there isn’t any pressure!

Vicki, you said: “My daughter told me today my clothes are starting to look baggy on me. Guess I can wear the smaller/tighter clothes more now.”

That’s exactly how I feel about dropping sizes! It’s such a gradual thing, it’s not like you wake up one day and it’s obviously time for the next size down. First the old size is baggy, then it’s so baggy as to be noticeable; until finally then the new size is tight, but you still feel really self conscious wearing it until it fits normally. The last time I did this, by the time I bought new cloths they were 3 or 4 sizes smaller than what I had been wearing. That’s not as bad as it sounds, I already had a VARIETY of sizes in my closet, and everything fits a little differently. I’d wear something that used be tight or impossible, or something my sister handed up. She also lost a lot of weight, just a few months ahead of me.

I think I'm down again, but I can't tell for sure. Sometimes I dog/house sit, and this week I'm at someone else's house. The scale I’m using this week scale is at my friend's house, but it is ALWAYS off from the one at my house. I weighed in at home on Monday, and on Tuesday. Tuesday I had bounced up a half pound, but I wasn't worried about it. Wednesday I weighed on the other scale and it read 2 pounds above my (this time around) all time low from Monday. That didn't bother me since it was a different scale. I weighed again this morning, and it's down 2 and a half pounds down since Wednesday. This will probably mean that I'm down when I get back to my official scale in my own house, but by how much I have no idea! I think this scale reads higher, and today I'm about a pound below anything I've ever seen on my official scale. Math is NOT my strong point! I could be down that one pound, or that pound plus the difference between this scale and the one at my house. Adding to my confusion is that this scale does increments of .2 pounds, and the one at my house only does .5 increments. So the one at home could round up or down too. On Saturday I get back to my house, so it will be Sunday morning before I can weigh in on my own scale. That is DIFFICULT for a scale junky like me! I will let you guys know, and officially weigh in on Monday for Cleo’s Midyear challenge. Thanks for listening to my rambling. Being a scale junky I am obsession over what the loss might be!

I was/am a scale junkie, too, but I'm honestly still too afraid of the damage I've done to actually get on and see it! This is my 4th day back and I am feeling good! For breakfast I had 3 eggs with 6 pieces of turkey bacon and water. There is coffee in my future this morning, however... For the first time in perhaps 4 years I slept until 10:16AM! Of course, the kids were up and bugging me from about 8:30 on, but I was so out of it that I didn't really wake up until someone small came and plunked a gallon of milk down on me and told me they wanted a drink, please! True, they had made several messes, but maybe that sleep was worth it! My intention today is to get the laundry caught up, clean up those messes I just mentioned, and then work more on clutter in my room. Have a great low-carb day, Ladies! I'll BBL...

i think i need to go back to some kind of basic because i'm getting all confused daily on what i'm doing LOL...i've made it so complicated trying to count calories and low carb and only eat when im hungry and i've got way too many things in my head when i mess around with food, i feel like i'm playing mind games with myself...."am i really hungry?" "or am i hungry because im thinking about being hungry?" "lowcalorie stuff isnt necessarily low carb so which do i eat?" and it goes on and on....

so round and round i go....i feel like i'm not losing any more weight and i might be gaining weight, but maybe its all in my head....i havent been on a scale in a week because its at my other school and i dont work there this summer, i dont want to go to the dr's scale beacuse im afraid its gonna say i've gained 60 pounds...lol

maybe i'm just overwhelmed with work and having a new kid and having my older son leaving this weekend...im not sure...maybe i just need a nap

Were we all born with functional metabolisms? I think so!

I suspect we were born with metabolisms that worked well - and we screwed up by using food as a drug, a mood-altering, life-saving drug. I know I did. What I did with food helped me survive a bleak life as a toddler and youngster and as a young adult with no coping skills. My addiction to food kept me safe from a lot of other addictions that disrupt a person's life.

Now, at 64, I am ready to develop better coping skills.

Thanks to the LCFriend who led me to write up the above admission that what I lament today as a ghastly flaw in my character or personality turns out to be nothing more than an early coping skill that once saved my life but is no longer necessary. I've outgrown it. Time to let go.

...I still feel hungry after I reach my BMR... with the HB equation, [a higher calorie count is] still good, but mentally I'm thinking it's way too high. So hard to break that old habit huh? I find it so strange how I cycle with doing SO well on this woe and then just one day, BAM, i'm craving everything, having little cheats... and questioning everything. Ugh...why wasn't I born with a fab metabolism?!?!
What I truly suspect is that we are all born with a metabolism that functions well. I think we are struggling to get back to the original functional metabolism that I (for one) messed up in my confusion as I flailed around for a life preserver in a chaotic world. Food was handy.

Thanks to those who share their struggles and their victories here. It all helps those of us who are trudging the same path, making the same journey.

Good Morning everyone,
I have not been online in 2 days cause I have had my nose stuck in a Stepen King book "Duma Key". I still have a few pages left but won't let myself read any until I get my chores completed.
I have been super hungry for the last 2 days. I have stayed on plan and pretty much meat and egg both days. I found I was craving no no's also but managed to stay clean.
Have a Great Day!
Jean

Me too! So many people post a before, maybe 1 during and then after but to see the change makes it so much better because I for one have the mindset that there is no journey between Here and then. I have to get out of that because this journey isn't going to be a short one and thinking that makes it seem so impossible.

Those pictures show the journey! They are AWESOME....Thanks again for sharing them with us!

Awwww vicki, I am sorry to hear you have to have surgery. How long will you be in the hospital? Will you be able to do low carb while there? If you even want to eat their food....ewwww! lol will you have to do that forever???

Thats about it for that. My daughter told me today my clothes are starting to look baggy on me..guess I can wear the smaller/tighter clothes more now. That is AWESOME!

ITA... I have only been here a little over 3-4 weeks and I know what you mean. First it was Atkins vs Atkins 72, then I read where people are counting calories and then the BMR thing! Not to mention other things like eggcreams, oil pulling and face cleaning w/ oil! I think I have just got too much going on at once!

I think for me it is going to be Atkins 72 induction, like starting over until I have gotten some more weight off and more comfortable w/ food choices. Then I wil delve into other things like BMR and calorie counting!

What a wonderful way to look at it. Instead of seeing ourselves ( as I do) loser for thinking food is so important. To really see how it was coping skills. I have often thought, at least I am not on drugs or drinking. YES, what i am doing is bad for my health but I would hate to think MY addiction, My coping skills could KILL someone else!

in another post, ive been growling because i bought two scales yesterday - for the first time EVER in my life to own a scale - and i get these weird random numbers popping up....the second scale seems more reasonable, i only get a 15-pound difference at the most...if i rock forward and put my weight to the front of the scale, i magically lose 10 pounds LOLOL if i put the weight back on my heels, poof! there's 10 pounds back.....so what i decided to do - rather than exchange this one too and drive myself insane - is to wiggle around to get the lowest and highest on the same standing and just average it out

my lowest both today and yesterday read 190, my highest read 205, i honestly feel like i'm still around 205 or 202 but if you average it out, it comes to about 197 which is right at the latest goal i set....i dont feel right claiming that goal though

but i figure its' accurate ENUF, ya know? like if it was constantly floating around 260 i'd know i was in that area, or if it was hovering over the 150s i'd know i'm somewhere in there...so at least it shows im still on track after having SUCH a hard time in june with schedule changes and eating habits gone amuck

Personally if it was me I would stand w/ your feet flat on the scale and count that weight as your weight. Afterall when you go the doctor they usually tell you to step up on the scale, they dont' say step on your toes or your heels. I think the difference that you are seeing is based on the where the weight is distrubed on the scale since it is not evenly...kwim?

That would save you a lot of time! Lord knows we dont' like the scales that much! LOL!

oh there was more than just the balancing around on it LOL it's off in another thread on here somewhere....the first scale i got last night read close to 200 in the store, a few pounds higher with shoes on...took it home, set it on the SAME kind of surface and it read 260...i made sure it was all set according to directions and it read 245....i stepped on and off a bunch of times before i finally gave up and exchanged it for a slightly better dial scale....this morning read between 190 and 205, settling at about 205 after a few tries, then this afternoon stepping on it flatfooted read 190....aargh!

I use to have that problem w/ scales too! I read reviews on a weight watcher scale that went to 360 ( I almost outgrew THIS scale) since then I dont' have that problem.

I might be 3-5 less/more than my doctor or DD's doctor but it is pretty accurate. I step on and off 3 times. Generally they are the same but if they are different, I take the highest amount.

I think that by doing the two different stance you are probably farther off though then just stepping one and off.

I got my ww scale at Target I think. I have had it for like 2-3 years and only recently replaced the battery! It is glass....I was scared to death to step on glass! LOL!

Sounds like both yours was whack...might want to check it out.

Food for today :2 tbs peanut butter, 2 hamburger patties, 2 grilled chicken thighs,3oz lunch meat with mayo, and 2 coffees with 1 tbs cocoa powder, cream and sweet n low in each. Dinner is going to be rib eye steak. Sounds like alot again today. I sure wish loss of appetite would kick in again.
WOW Jean, I never would have thought to add cocoa powder to coffee! Might have to try that , it sounds GOOD!

I have loss of appetite but not loss of WANTING to eat....if that makes sense!

What kind of peanut butter does everyone use...I really hate trying to mix the natural kind. ARe you allowed that on induction? I know you not on 72'.

Have a GREAT weekend and HAPPY SUMMER everyone!

4gotn1 I add cocoa powder to my chocolate protein drink.... just a teaspoon goes along way......

I made a chocolate protein drink the other night, added 1 tbsp of cruncy peanut butter to it and mixed in in the blender with alittle ice and 1/2 cup of skim milk... it was so good... reminded me of a butterfinger.....

I weighed this morning and was down another 1..... I was happy with that... I know i will never made it to a 30 lb loss before surgery, so I will just take what I can get....

Yesterday I added some sf nestle quik to some coffee with cream and ice cubes and made some sort of iced coffee drink... Not sure about the carbs on that - but it was good!
