Anyone want a buddy or to help a newbie?

Hi I have been trying to change to a low carb WOL since last week. I love the messages that I have been reading, such support and great ideas. Thank you all for sharing, but I was wondering if anyone minded buddying up so to speak, I always feel like I am intruding in other peoples conversations.

you can always chat with me melissa i too feel like im intruding on a lot of conversations where ppl have already known each other for years....i like the 300+ support thread the best because it's less ppl and u really get a feel for each other on there....i've been rambling along in there even though i only have about 50-60 pounds to lose

i have my own thread going farther down the list, titled first foray for a newbie, more like a blog than a thread but u can always talk to just me there also

i did a month of LC and had major trouble with my calories and portions...now im trying to balance mainly calorie counting and partly LC choices...its been way more successful

i think u can send pm's on here but i mostly chat on yahoo, with teh same tag, alaskanlaughter hope to hear from ya...im online a LOT

Thank you so much, I have a long way to go...I could kick myself in the butt I was down to 290 last July, I have been as much as 430, you would think that if you had been that big and got that far that you wouldn't do it again. Sometimes I wonder how I could do that to myself because I consider myself a smart person. But I have six kids and a man that adores me and its even less fair to them than myself, I HAVE to do this all the way and for good.
Again thank you so much for reaching out it is greatly appreciated, I hope I don't bug you too much...LOL

Wow! 6 kids - absolutely amazing! Melissa, you can do this - having people on this board to chat with really helps to keep you going. It sounds like you are ready to make a commitment to stick to it this time. I'll be more than glad to help you along the way, I love being able to chat with people!

Myself and another member have a daily thread in the Challenge Board titled Travelingmama - Another day in paradise - basically its just the 2 of us checking in daily - you are always welcome to join there - the more the merrier! There used to be several people but now its just us, but either way its what has really kept us going and kept us accountable.

Can I join in here too. Welcome Melissa. You sound ALOT like me, I have 10 kids, and a husband who loves me dearly and he loves me big, but I got to a point that I was no longer happy with me, and he supports me in trying to lose. I cant tell you how this board has helped me, I know I spend alot of time here, but I need to because it helps keep me focused on where I need to be headed.I know my family doesnt want to hear about me "talking low carb" all the time, and here its a 24/7 low carb topic so everyone can pretty much relate.
My highest was probably around 350 when I had my last baby girl Jan 2, 2008, and I started this a few months after that. Its a struggle everyday but one I feel I MUST fight. Im here if you need as well, the folks here are really great so WELCOME ABOARD!!!!!!
sorry if I rambled ..

Hi Melissa,

Don't worry about interrupting in on any conversations. Post where you like and soon you will feel included. I would definitely sign up to be your buddy. We both weigh about the same and have both lost (I lost 170lbs on Atkins a few yrs ago) and regained it in spite of intelligence! Obesity is a disease so we must challenge ourselves to overcome it ...even if it means 100 times!!!

I will be looking forward to getting to know you better. You are welcome to pm me anytime!

(I have 4 kids but they are all grown)

hey Melissa!! and other ladies!!

Melissa, I will keep an eye out for you on the boards!! You know, I think every single person here who has lost a significant amount of weight has been through relapse(s) some time in their life. I once lost 60 pounds and gained it all back +20 .. and all those times helped me to know what works for me and what does not. I was obese my whole life and dieted my whole life - and only now in my early 40s have I been able to get it all off and keep it off for a few years .. and set an example for my girls - a big bonus!!!!

There is no point looking back at what might have been!! You are here and working to go forward and there is nothing more you can do than that!!!!!! Congratulations on this new start!!!! You will be amazed at what you can do with all the support you'll get here!!!

Hi alaskan laughter, on Elmendorf outside of anchorage, loved it. I am past the cravings for the most part....feeling smaller around my face and neck. But you remember that guilty feeling when you eat more fat than you are allowed on a high carb diet (am I really going to lose eating this) kinda feeling, but I guess I am. I need to let go of the feeling that I am doing something wrong. I am loving the recipes I see though some really smart people on here let me tell you....lol

Melissa, OK our dh's need to talk really, lol, my dh is a muscular 170 pounds and is currently on induction , he thinks he is helping me somehow, BUT deeply its driving me crazy.... I cant quite explain it but I was doing this for me ya know, and its like I cant even have this, because in his quest to be "suportive" I have to make him micro cheese snacks and keep tons of nuts on hand and things that I may have done without are always around because he is a big snacker, and of course I end up eating things that I really didnt want to eat, or using up carbs in ways I didnt b4 am I making any sense, I mean the first few weeks when it was just me Atkins was alot more simple... Ok sorry I didnt mean to go on a rant there, maybe its TOM speaking here , I just wanted this to be "MY thing" Dont get me wrong we have a wonderful relationship and we talk about everything but on the outside he is a rock , inside he is a teddy bear so I dont dare tell him cause I dont want to hurt his feelings, I know he really thinks he is helping so I just come here and vent, lol
ok rant over .....
I love oopsies with an extra few packs of splenda ( only eat one a day when I do that) and heavy cream whipped up on top, ummm,
I love the cauliflower pizza but it caused me 3 days worth of "plumbing issues"
The one minute muffin and mock danish are awesome
favorite dinner meal, grilled chicken, steak, or shrimp, with steamed brocolii and butter, I am trying out all diff. kinds on marinades.

Alaska sounds like a really nice place to live, but is it always cold? Or is that just an Alaska stereotype,lol...

it depends where in ak you are and what time of year....up in the Interior it gets 60 below zero in the winter, we have to plug our cars in to keep the engine blocks from freezing and cracking...however summers can get up to 90 degrees, sunny and beautiful...up north the sun hardly sets during the summer, i watched it set at midnight on the tundra a few times...then in the winter it stays dark from 3 p.m. til 10 a.m. the next day

i now live farther south in ak, on the coast in a rainforest, where 220 days of the year we get rain...sometimes it snows in the winter, two winters back we set a record with 300 inches of snow then...mostly it just rains...winter temps are in the 30s, summer temps 60s to 80s if its sunny

juneau has 40,000 ppl, the capital, but no roads in or out...we either fly or take a ferry...it takes a day and a half on the ferry to reach the northern areas where there are roads to the main cities...i fly up once a year, sometimes less...sometime i will post pics of the beautiful rainforest we live in here....bears come through our yard all summer, especially after dark....always gotta watch out, once a bear stuck its head in our open door and was watching hubby....

i wonder if i'm busy enuf to have it count as exercise....today i got up at 6 a.m., washed my hair n got dressed, made coffee, made lunches, and got to work by 645 a.m....did projects and ran my program til 930...got coffee, picked up my friend, took her to her ultrasound for the baby, took her home...came home, cleaned kitchen, counters, tables and highchair, tried to rake yard but its too hard on my back....made lunch, sat at the computer for a bit, changed clothes, back to work by 1 p.m......work shift from HELL this afternoon, violent kids, kids geting hurt, we sent a kid home but he refused to leave, i ended up driving him home just to get him out of the school, picked up a 3 year old,.....came home, supervised kids, made dinner, fed kids, took four kids shopping with me, took one home, came back and did bedtimes by 845 p.m. and here i sit....does ANY of that count as exercise? LOL

yes I think you burned ummmmm 3000000000 calories, lol.
Alaska sounds so nice, I would love to see pictures, but the having to fly in and out or take the ferry sort of scares me, lol. But bears in the yard, oh my kids would think thats soooo cool.

Hi everyone is it me or now that the carbs are out of my system I dont
get hungry and munch very often. I enjoy the richness of the cheese and the fact that my salad dressing isn't yucky fat free and that my meat isn't turkey every meal that it has dawned on me that I am not craving to snack all the time. Tomorrow I weigh I'm kinda scared (monthly visitor) but I am feeling a big difference around my face and neck.

I don't know how to thank you guys for all the ideas and motivation you have no idea how much this is helping.....

allamo welcome!!!!!!!!

Alaskanlaughter, Ummrashid, Tada, Kougra,Tulips, GGwilson yall have made this first week easier than I thought it would be.

I am going to make my second batch of oopsies tonight...wish me luck...lol
also bought the stuff to make the Cream Cheese muffins
I hope this works for the long haul, I love these recipes, so rich and satisfying....

Way to go!!!! Isnt it a great feeling, and you have all the signs of being in ketosis, your apetite just goes, its amazing. Dont feel bad about the weigh in , tommorow is my weigh in day and its TOM Im, sure I wont be pleased but it will just make me want to work that much harder once TOM is gone...

The wonderful benefits of ketosis. I rarely snack at all any more and have to remind myself to eat, especially on weekends when we are so busy!
