Zer,
Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. I do believe have a scale will make my weight loss a reality to me. For so long, I have denied that I was fat. Can you imagine, someone over 400lbs deny that they are fat?? ![]() But so much of my life has been lived, "outside of my body", that I very rarely stop to look at myself. Well, time has come, to stop looking out and start looking in. I do not like this body and I want out! I have told my kids for years that there's a skinny woman inside me that is trying to get, so I have to keep her quiet and drugged with chocolate! ![]() Anway, I will be cheering you on to your goal and I will chasing close behind you to mine. Maybe will meet our goals at the same time! That would be fun!

Edna- I sure do. I deny frequently just how fat I really am. No one WANTS to see or acknowledge it the bigger they get. I used to bemoan my weight more before I was over 300, than I do now. Then again, that was before kids! I am ah... easily distracted from it now. lol.. NOT good.
I am taking it a day at a time now and trying to make lastable improvements. I managed to get myself out for a walk today. I feel bad though because I forgot about dds ear infection and took her out on this windy, windy day. NOT going to help that much.

Magikal!!!! Congrats on the great loss in April! Wow! That's awesome!
Dixi..I denied my weight for so many years until I just couldn't deny it any longer! It feels so good to finally be doing something for ourselves! You'll feel so much better! And this thread ROCKS! There are so many great people here who give such great motivation and inspiration! April was another 8 lb month. I swear I think that is all I'm going to lose each month. But I figure a loss is a loss! ![]() Good luck to all in May! Here's hoping it's a great lo carb month for us all! ![]() Has anyone seen Cleo?

3,500calories in a pound...just under 900calories in 4oz (1/4#)
There is one way to lose weight: Burn more calories than we eat.
Either cut back on calories eaten or rev up metabolism by exercise to burn, baby, burn. Each 3,500calories on the deficit side of the scale will show up as a pound gone! I know we massive folks are not to count calories as we do LC/Atkins. We are to eat fat+protein that will curb our appetite and fuel our cells and turn our metabolism into a fat-burning system as we aim to eat 75%fat, 20%protein and 5%carbs (mostly vividly colorful vegie carbs) and then cut back on fat as we add carbs to find our tolerance for eating carbs. But isn't it interesting to think that a food choice of just under 900calories MAY equal 1/4# loss/gain? I'm losing in ounces now, so I gather that I am eating fewer calories than I burn by breathing in and out and hefting myself in and out of bed to the loo. That's about all the exercise I get, with a hinky hip. Not much appetite now. As I consider what to eat, I am going to be more aware of the value of eating protein like sardines in place of drinking WPP for a protein boost, as sardines do not have a carb count or a calorie count like my WPP hot slosh has (500 calories, which I figure is about a third of my day's caloric allotment). Oh, numbers make my head swim. I'm glad that I do not have to count a lot. When I see 199# and start to mold myself into a body with a waistline again, I imagine counting calories and working out will be a big part of my life. Agh! |

This is me.
![]() Snow on May 1. I still skim when I can. I'm winding down a home schooling year and administering finals (both written and online) for my autistic son. It is hard, and some days it wears me literally out. As for weight loss, I'm losing again and am in the lower 280's now. I would love to hit 280 before I'm through with re-inducting, though! after the butt-long stall I've been dealing with, I'm happy just to be at 284. I hope all are well! I'm still around--just not boring you with my busy stuff!

Cleo,
I know how hard homeschooling is. I have my 16 yr old baby finishing this year. She is almost finished with Spainish 2 but has several subjects to complete over summer. I have stepped back though and she is doing her courses through a correspondence high school. She will get an accreditted diploma and will then be off to college. My, how time flys! Anyway, how old is your son? |

Hey all.
Cleo - didn't know you had a son with autism. My DS is most likely PDD-NOS... he's 4 and giving his teachers a run for their money. It has worn me our mentally and that's why (as if a reason somehow makes it okay...) I fell off the wagon this past time. However, its May now and I am still on track for over 12 hours now. If I can make it through the weekend I think I'll start to be okay. I just HAVE TO get to 275. I don't know why that number is so unattainable. I often seem to forget how fat I am. Even stranger, I see other, normal-sized women, and I'll think, "Hmmm, she's putting on some weight..." How can I even think that?!?!?!? Its an odd mind-set I seem to have. Like somehow I am really okay and still pretty, etc... when, in reality, I am still almost twice what I should weigh, with a huge stomach and awful thighs, etc... I am a piece of work, that's all I can say. That, and this growing old thing. The facial hair, the wrinkles, the yucky hair, the restless sleep...ah, I can go on and on. What's the point? Wish someone told me it was over about 4 years ago. Still, I have a goal of being 175...170 actually. 170 with a few pounds leeway for gains and losses. A size 14. A normal size. Want to get my whiskers zapped and my teeth whitened and my eyes fixed (can't wear contacts...long story...) and my roots dyed. I want to look good and have people be envious of me. Want to get hit on or cat called once in a while and not think its automatically someone bullying me. I want to care again...or care more, I guess. Sorry, didn't mean to start rambling.

dixie-- Bless your heart for getting through the teens! I have one who wanted to stay home next year, but what he needs I can't provide (he's gifted ++) so I'm keeping in school in a program which allows him to work at his own pace.
I think it fantastic that your daughter has that opportunity for growth in a safe, calm, home environment! Tamale-- The diagnosis has been a blessing, save for the fact that now I know all 4 have varying degrees of autism. To some degree it's just amazing knowing the WHY of the behavior and difficulties. On the other hand, it's so hard dealing with so many different personalities and 'quirks' (for lack of a better word). It is said that all people have some degree of autism. Now I'm seeing tendencies in myself that have me wondering if my hubby isn't the only one with autism! It's a bit disconcerting and overwhelming. The blessing is that with a diagnosis of autism, the teachers and admin have laid off trying to push me to medicate kids. FINALLY. Also, with age, the kids have become more adept at being able to cope in situations without too many of the coping mechanisms when can sometimes be considered to be distracting in a classroom. Tonight I'm just trying to figure out how to get one of my kids to sleep at a decent time through use of a weighted blanket. It is constant, and sometimes the rules continue to change, but these guys are definitely worth the effort. Getting through handwriting has been a nightmare of epic proportions. I'm just thankful for the team of people working with us. OT and ST have been particularly wonderful. I'm back on Atkins after becoming disgruntled at almost a month-long stall. Reinducting after taking some time to re-evaluate has seemingly made a difference, so I'm going with it. It could simply be that the stall would have ended at that point anyway. I have no idea. It's just nice to see the scale moving again. For a change. |

i decided to count calories for a day and get a better idea of how to meet my calorie needs...an online weight loss calculator added up 1660 per day to lose weight...i would have been better except for brother in law AGAIN bringing home horrid junk food which i shoved down my throat on a very stressful day
![]() so here goes: 7 a.m. 140 cal 8 a.m. - 140 cal noon 190 cal coffee 100 cal (best estimate i could find online for nonfat small mocha) snack 55 cal cookies 440 cal (AAAHHHH SOB)dinner 394 cal TOTAL: 1459 as of 7 p.m. with 201 left to eat that seems like an AWFUL lot of calories but in all honestly i didnt barely eat ANYTHING today until i shoved all those wonderful horrible cookies down my throat but i was honest about exactly how many calories i was eating with them and i think that helped me not eat MORE lol what do you guys think? is 1660 a good number to stick with? i am 209 right now, size 14, fairly sedentary because of my ruptured spine and hip but i work fulltime, mother of 2 active ones etc.... the calculator said 2160 to maintain and 1660 to lose a pound a week...what do you guys think? nothing like a 10 year old adhd kid singing happy bday in my EAR while i write this LOLOL .....its not even anyone's bday ![]() |

Zer- I am sorry for neglecting your achievement earlier! You have been doing splendidly! I am going to get to doing the hot slosh thing as soon as I get to working. We are on the stamps right now, and I don't think it covers whey protein powder. Then again, I suppose I could just incorporate Fawns Shake into my day, that is a great thing too and its loaded with nutrients. It just doesn't taste like chocolate. lol. Spinach and aloe are not chocolate friendly.

LC'ers encouraged to select organic food, UNprocessed food.
One of the benefits of eating LC may be that we avoid the new disease - Morgellon's Disease - that is linked to eating GM (genetically modified) food. By seeking out UNprocessed food and organic food, LC'ers are likely to be among the folks who avoid horrific symptoms that are described in an article by Dr.Mercola at Dr.Mercola on Monsanto, GM food, Morgellon’s Disease

Good morning folks!
I am at the end of week 3 on induction. I found yesterday that I was eating something that dropped my level of ketosis and have got to try to figure out what it is. I honestly believe it was the packets of splenda I used on my oopsie crepes. I usually just use the pourable splenda and have never had a problem but I used 4 paks of Splenda on my crepes and I think I had a reaction to it. So, for now, I will only use pourable splenda to see if I go back to deep ketosis. I honestly think my critical carb leve IS 20! I still feel that I am losing though. I see and feel changes in my body almost daily. Hope my scale shows up soon.! ![]() Here is my day: B-sausage egg cheese scramble L- parmesan crusted chicken, small bed of lettuce w/ranch D- fire roasted hot dogs (boys campout) celery with pimento cheese S- sugar free jello, 2 carb cheesecake muffin I'm going camping/sleepover with my grandsons, ages 3 and 7 yrs. This should be a hoot!! ![]() Say a prayer for me! ![]() |

he doesnt have a room
he's just sleeping in our living room because he crashed with us, again, third year in a row, without asking and we have no place to put himi feel bad for him because of all his weight-induced problems...he is in his 40s, over 500 pounds and because of that, has no concept of how to eat right, has sleep apnea terribly bad, and the construction sites that he's supposed to be driving for wont hire him or he wont get a job, im not sure which my husband is very worried that he will have a heart attack and die but on the other hand, he is very upset that his older brother is using us, againi know darn well the reason i ate cookies last night is because brother in law left them right there and the tension between those two was so thick you could cut it....i think hubby is going to talk to him, again this spring, about leaving and giving us back our privacy, which we both value very highly |
