Heather - Sorry you're feeling discouraged. Something to keep in mind is that being in ketosis doesn't always equal loss on the scale. Is TOM close? That could stop the scale in its tracks/cause a gain.
Try cutting out processed meats for a while - hot dogs, pepperoni, deli meats, chicken wings that you don't make yourself - as they tend to be high in sodium. Instead of jello & whipped cream for a snack, try some raw veggies with full-fat dip or hb eggs. Or make a big batch of tuna or chicken salad and have a spoonful when you need a snack. Eating as cleanly as possible is key. And remember that less is not always better on l/c. Make sure your fat, carbs & calories don't go too low. Cook in butter or olive oil. How Many Calories Should I Eat - How to Calculate Caloric Intake - Count Calories to Lose Weight - Losing Weight by Cutting Calories 2 this article has some good information about how much you should eat, calorie-wise. Use a program like fitday (it's free) to calculate what you're eating. You'll probably have to enter some foods manually & it can be a PITA, but it's been very helpful for me. Maybe it's time to start moving up the carb ladder? Drink your water, exercise & like I always say, measure! You're obviously firming up and losing inches - the bridesmaid dress is proof. And you're feeling good and not missing carbs, so this woe apparantly agrees with you. How long has it been without a loss on the scale or tape measure? A stall is 4 weeks with no loss in pounds or inches. |

drank a lot of water today, well over 80oz
salami for snack a cup of broth from vegi soup taco salad with ground chicken & cheddar I really, hate chicken, I hate the dark meat and I hate ground chicken when it has that sort of strongish dark meat taste. ugh. ![]() I am annoyed with Trader Joes, the lettuce mix I like has doubled in price, so I bought some cheap-o lettuce mix at a big box store and it had tons of CARROT grated in, which is nice for the kids, but not for me. ![]() Carol, I misssssss your posts nice to see you Jennifer. have a nice Wednesday night ladies! ![]() |

I got Hannahs biodads autopsy report today in the mail. It said he had cardiomyopathy.
That is genetic and can be fatal. Good news is that knowledge is power, so we can test and watch for it. Anticipate a transplant in time just in case. Stuff like that.Just future scenarios. I don't think I am going to get out of her childhood without some heart condition. There are too many problems on his side to be able to do so and this early start worries me. I almost caved to some chocolate today. I had 30 minutes to kill in the pharmacy and it was just THERE. I leaned toward the cacao dark chocolate, but read the back and realized there was just as many carbs and sugar as in regular chocolate and said to myself... "Self (thats what i call myself), I says Self... why bother? For the amount you will pay for this single bar, you can get a whole BAG of what you love." Then from there my thoughts were, "But I don't want to cave...." "Yes I do!" Desperate mind chimes in. In the end, I settled for a little bag of SF gummy bears that were all malitol carb count. lol. So I may end up regretting it later (*grins*) but I am still on plan and didn't eat the whole bag. And I managed to have a bit of comfort food. Yes gummy bears are a comfort food. I had that and pizza toppins nuked in the microwave. lol. I did good.

Tanika, knowledge is power and glad you now have a name for Hannah's condition. Keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers.
Heather, don't look at the scale!!!!! It lies!!! Just know you are doing all that you should be doing and just don't pay attention to the scale. The scale always wrecks my progress by discouraging me and I say what the heck. The one bite of icing would have not only stalled me it would have caused a gain. Might wanna look and see how many carbs were in that bite. |

Proof the scale lies #1,837,815:
This AM I got on the scale 4 times (didn't like the first number ), & got 4 different weights. All but 1 were higher than my sig weight. So I broke out a pair of shorts that I bought the week before Easter for a trip. They were so tight then I ended up not taking them & truthfully I could have used one size larger; I mean, I had to move my tummy out of the way to get them buttoned and zipped, not to mention the muffin top. This AM they went right on, and I didn't even have to suck in to get them done up. No muffin top & the waist even had room. Not much, but some.My scale loss since buying them? A grand total of 1/2 a pound Last edited by Jennifer : 04-10-2008 at 11:58 AM. |

Hello ladies! I'm trying something new...
For at least the next three days (possibly 5) I am going to do the Atkins Fat Fast. This is basically for those who are metobolically resistant. It consists of 5 small meals of 200 calories each (totalling 1,000 calories/day), 90% of which comes from fat. I FINALLY read the chapter in DANDR about metobolic resistance... and eh hem... I'm on 3 of the five meds that they say can really stall weight loss! Ugh! I thought back about it, and I started taking one of them the SAME time I stopped losing (three weeks into this woe)! DUH! So... I'm going off of those meds (they're diuretics for high blood pressure, but Atkins already helps lower blood pressure and I've started excercising very regularly, which also lowers blood pressure, so I should be just fine!). That, on top of the Fat Fast... we'll see how I do! The other two meds I can't just go off of (birth control and anti-dep/anx meds)... so I hope this works! But, it's nice to know that there's a REASON I haven't been losing! So far today I've just had 2 ounces of cream cheese (it's just about noon here, but I also slept in). I'm about to go cook up a bunch of bacon for today and tomorrow. So far I feel pretty good... not too hungry, but I'm just getting started really. Anyway, my menu today isn't very adventurous, but I might try some different things tomorrow... Today's Menu: 1- 2 ounces cream cheese 2- 5 bacon slices 3- 2 ounces cream cheese 4- 5 bacon slices 5- heavy cream in diet root beer (LOTS OF WATER!!!) Good luck on losing everyone!

hi friends,
heather that sounds like a good short term solution... I think I am at a point where I may consider seeing a therapist, when I strip away the food that I have been self-medicating with for so long, there is a big space that I need to figure out how to fill, and why I have needed the food, and the fat insulation. it is a bleak day for me today, and my gut response it to eat. I haven't gone there yet, but it bugs me that I always mentally go back to that place. I have also noted that I have not been getting any sun lately, and maybe that has something to do with my mood. I have always poo-pooed people with SAD syndrom, being a native Oregonian, but as I get older I find myself more affected by my enviroment. blah, blah, just need a place to get some feelings out. ![]() |

Heidi - I have similar feelings a lot of the time. As a matter of fact, in the middle of really stressful moments, I literally start thinking, "What can I eat...what's in the fridge/cupboard/drawer?" I still think that way - just rarely really do it anymore - and 95% of the time when I do do it, it is low carb... Sun might help you - and therapists aren't so bad... I'd do it if I could find the time and the $$...just isn't there right now. I hope you feel better soon.

I worked for an eye surgeon for five years, and one part of my job was to do the eye drops for dilation- the 40 year old men were always bigger babies than the children, but every once in a while I would get a child I couldn't get drops into

Im the 61 year old baby that ya can't get drops into eyes...in fact I am also a baby about injections. Hope Tiff recovers swiftly, she is a lil doll and yes, she looks like she is a very strong lil girl. Bless her heart, pink eye is the pits. The book sounds interesting, let us know what u think about it.
Heidi, I think going to someone that will help us understand this demon that lies within is a great idea. You go and find out for us all. I have wondered as we all have, what is the reason I over eat. I have tried to pin point my feelings and its not because I am sad, blue, depressed. I know that if I don't like something there is not a time, day, week or month that I would eat it. The food I binge on is definitely going to be something I like. I would never binge on liver, so what gives here? If liver were the only food I had access to, I would be skinny. My husband was chewing something last nite, I asked what he was eating and he teasingly said peanut m&ms.....ya know, just something that simple can and does bring me to a binge. Sometimes I think I am just spoiled and when the notion strikes I throw caution to the wind and I just eat. I don't know, sorry about the endless chatter, but Heidi, you have given food for thought here. Hope everyone posting has a wonderful day. Its stormy here, I need the sun. I just can't imagine not having sun most of the days. I have lightened every room in my home because I hate dark.. It maybe an age thing because I use to love darkened rooms. Dark woods, dark colors........now its yellows, light blues, white, white and more white....If I had the money I would buy a glass house........Let the sunshine in ![]()

Hi-
Heidi hang in there. When I went to the atkins center years and years ago, one of the docs there told me his theory was that when we are babies, we cry and have a need and the first thing that our parents do (and that also usually makes us feel good and full and happy) is stick a bottle in our mouth or food of some kind so we get trained early on before we realize it to associate eating with solving a problem or need. That full, happy feeling is an early association and I see where he got that idea. Food is a comfort that is easy to find and use and usually cheap. Also, we can't just stop eating-you have to eat each day-not like you can just stop and never eat again. I firmly believe I have SAD and need sunlight. One reason I love Georgia is the abundant sunshine. I know I feel down and emotional (blue, sad, like crying) when it is cloudy and/or rainy. Arlene hope your child gets well soon. The scale was up for me this morning so I need to get more strict and exercise more. Take care everyone! --Laura |

Hello ladies! Just checking in really quickly and will try to get back online later to catch up on this thread!
I'm going to have to see how this goes and whether I can really stay off of the diuretics or not... last night I was UP to 348.5 (which had to be water weight because I only ate 1,000 calories yesterday), so that worried me a bit, not just for weight reasons, but because of blood pressure. Anyway, I'm giving it at least one more day without meds and see how it goes. Anyhoo... other than that, the Fat Fast seems to be going pretty well. I was at a friend's house last night for a game night and stayed on it, depite tons of pizza and beer and feeling pretty hungry later in the evening... and it paid off this morning! Today's Weight: 344.0 (!) Today's Menu: 1- cream cheese 2- bacon 3- cream cheese 4- bacon 5- diet root beer with cream (LOTS of water again!) |

I ate toooooo much this morning.
my son and I had fastfood breakfast and I ate the insides of two egg & sausage sandwiches. I knowingly did it, but it was foolish. I hope everyone has a nice friday! june, I am glad you are honoring yourself with light & sun, good for you, knowing what you need. |
