it lasts longer and it is quick to bake, but I sincerly hope Gettin' is getting something tastier than what the poor folks had to secret out of Egypt on the other hand that might be an insentive for me not to eat it...

this morning, I got up and did the right thing, by eating breakfast of eggs.

I am off to take my son for an Dr apt.

I am doing a Sparkpeople diet along with my intended regimine, however I think I will make different menu choices, because although the set menu was ok, it wasn't too healthy and I subbed, making it healthy as I could, but in the future when this is on the menu for breaky, I am so gonna sub for something with a lot less carbs.

Menu today:

B- 2 4" buckwheat pancakes (they called for regular), 1 tbsp butter, 1 tbsp syrup, 2 tbsp cream cheese
L- egg salad on multigrain, apple
D- vegetarian chili and brown rice
S- 2.5 c. popcorn and 1 c. watermelon

When I signed up, I went for the more veggies in my diet, so it does that, but it also includes a carb level I am not comfortable with when it includes pancakes and bread. So I will do this for today, but I will be tweaking the menus and maybe subbing for less carby items. Like flatout bread for regular and whatnot.

Hi-
Tanicka-KUTGW and tweak the eating so it makes you feel good and have a sustainable plan.

June, Heidi and Tanicka -you three have been doing great. WTG!!

I am getting ready to go back to Italy for court - I leave on Sunday. I am not handling the stress well. Eating bad things, gaining weight (the scale showed a gain this morning) and not sleeping well.

I am still job hunting too and scared silly because I have only a little bit of money left and it is going quickly. The job market is awful and nothing has come my way yet. I have had some interviews but no offers.

On a side note, I helped out with some children at church over the weekend and was totally charmed by a little 3 year old. He really took a shine to me and just melted my heart.

Hope everyone is doing well. I would appreciate thoughts and prayers as I go to Italy Sunday and take care of things there over the next few days. I will be in Court on Wednesday and be flying back on Thursday. It is hard to describe my thoughts and feelings but suffice to say this is a very difficult time.

Well, I figured out how to adjust the carb counts, so hopefully soon the menus will reflect that.

Laura. Maybe God is waiting until you come back from Italy to get you a job. Not many places will hire with something like that so soon. It is why I will have trouble getting a job. The amount of time Hannahs appointments take and I can only work 1st shift. I am at a loss because I really need a job too, but I don't know how to work it out.

Gettin' I get a wheat free frozen waffle for my son, I should check the carb count... it might work well for you- my dh uses them in place of bread sometimes. They are "Van's" and of course the Eziekl brand tortilla's are really good flat bread.

I did well for a while on a similar diet but I was too undisciplined with portions. but I am that way... I loved that 2 cups of brown rice was so low in calories, that made a great base for soooo many things.

there is a wonderful book called "laurel's kitchen", which has a zillion wonderful whole food recipes, nutrition as well as a chapter on "spirtual eating". it is an old book from the 70's that you might find interesting, and prolly available at the library.

our doc apt, went fast and well, and I let ds stay home for a mental health day with mom.

Morning. I am so bloated today. I feel like crap!!! Trying to get the chemicals right in pool so I can exercise there, its so much easier and relaxing than on the floor. I also think it keeps the body fluid down.

Laura, I will be thinking of you while you are gone. Don't worry about being off plan. You go and do what you have to do. Get thru this time as best you can. Know that we are waiting here to give you moral support when you return. What ever this ugly person says during your time in Italy, remember he does not define you as a person. Just the short time of conversing with you its easy to see you are a loving person and so worth all the good things life has to offer you. Say goodbye to all the bad things and close that chapter in your life. So much awaits you in the next chapter.

Gettin, I am anxious to see how your new way of eating is working. If I came close to a stack of pancakes I would wolf them down so fast.....One of my weaknesses

Heidi, I also have portion control issues. Even with low carb I over eat on the foods that I like. I really need to just eat simple and stay away frm the foods I enjoy. I have been over eating all week. Last nite the jeans I wore yesterday morning were so snug I could barely breath. Probably was the chicken broccoli casserole I pigged out on. Just within a few short hrs!!! I increased........... I am still upset that I have managed to return to size 22s. I so long to wear the 20s that before Christmas were getting a lil bit loose. This is just never ending

Arlene, Hot T , hope you ladies r having a nice day. Hope you have time to post and let us know how things r going for ya

Laura - How long will you be gone? Stay strong over there and come home QUICKLY!!
If you think a 3 year old can capture your heart I have TWO 4 year olds that are true charmers!! Come visit!! (I also have a 10 year old drama queen...it all evens out...)

I am doing horribly with my eating. I've given in to the stress of my life right now and have made a week's worth of awful decisions. That said, tomorrow I am getting my roots done and some other maintenance...and I hope to find a quiet place to start re-reading my Atkins book and the carb counter book I bought a few weeks back. I want to start out strong and STAY strong. I also want to get some info on water aerobics and maybe buy some equipment that will make my workouts effective.

DD10 - who is now a little more than chunky - finally confided to me how she is picked on and how terrible she feels. She hung in with a modified lower carb eating plan for a few days, but started crying about that yesterday, too... I have to look into maintenence eating cause I bet that's what will work well for her. Sadly, she LOVES sugar and pasta - she's just having a hard time. Good news is when she first weighed she told me it said 110. Now - about 6 days later it said 105. I think its likely she weighed at the end of a day the first time and earlier in the day the 2nd time. We will weigh again this weekend and see where she stands. She had agreed that she'd like to try to get down to 95 by the start of school (mid-August) - and 10 pounds in about 12 weeks seems pretty healthy to me. She is 5 feet tall. Any suggestions anyone?

Maintenance, emphasize real food versus junk and that sort of thing. I think with kids, it has more to do with activity level. Take a close look there and see what all she does to keep the calories burned.

I know for me, when I was a kid, I used to be outside all the time from sun up to sun down and I wasn't fat. Not until Nintendo moved in and I stopped moving. And I ate the same things I always did.

Well, I am on the fence about this Sparkdiet. I am going to give it a try for a week or so, but I am up 3 lbs this morning. I am going to give it a few more days to see if it regulates out and I drop any this week.

My concern is that the menu, although veggie based like I want, also has a lot of refined carbs. I have no idea what they are thinking, but they don't have lowcarb as an option. Which is really too bad because I really like the site. It helps track foods and exercise like fitday doesn't.

One week, if I haven't dropped anything by next Thursday, I am coming back to my meat.

Thinking, I also started strength training yesterday. I am in a 100 challenge and had to do 100 shoulder presses yesterday! Holy cow did that hurt! I got through them, but some of it could be fluid retention, although my shoulders don't seem swollen..... As I said, time will tell.

I have a page at SparkPeople as well but I'm not going to follow their plan. I'm just using it now to keep track of my fats/carbs. I would like to find out how many grams of fat I'm supposed to have with my height/weight... and how many calories too. Then I'd like to readjust my "goals" there to match that. I joined there when I was doing the low fat/low cal thing. And starving to death! haha

100 shoulder presses, WOW!!!!!! I am impressed. You go girl!!!!! How much you pressing?? I think anytime you work with weights you can expect a rise in weight. That is temporary tho.....Muscle begins bldg and muscle will weigh more than fat but muscle will burn fat quicker....Keep it up. I need to do this......but I don't think I'd be able to get out of bed next day

Welcome Yankee B

She is perhaps 15 pounds overweight...I guess I'll have to check a calculator for that... She is also starting puberty and she's just hungry! I was already heavier than her when I was her age - and just dont want her to go through all that - but also don't want her to get obsessed with food/eating/dieting. I'm being very careful with what I say to her and how we approach making healthier choices. We've also discussed burning calories and we're trying to "play" an hour a day outside. Lately, that has been swimming in the pool. She is also trying to drink more water and is avoiding juices. I feel for her - and will be talking with her doc about it, too - although I'm failry certain I already know what needs to be done.

sounds like you are on a great path, for her. I am sort of terrified that my kids will go through the hell of being fat. I have suffered sooo much, I just don't want that for them.

I feel for you both. Its a fear of mine for the kids. I am lucky that I have learned so much NOW that I can at least spare Hannah the grief. I am trying to start her on healthier foods. More veggies and whatnot. Dylan was a trial and error baby and I wish like crazy I had stuck to my guns and not let the fear from others of him starving get the better and undermine my efforts and getting him on a balanced healthful diet.

It is a main reason I fear taking them to babysitters and whatnot. Babysitters feed kids crap, I don't care what they advertise... chicken nuggets and applesauce are not healthy!

Sounds like a nice work out Gettin. I do 50 cycles each morning before getting out of bed, and at nite. This is done while lying in bed. I do not hold hips up like I did long ago I think I am going to copy the rest of your work out down and just be a copy cat period I should start a weight baring program also. No reason not to do this other than I am soooooooo lazy when it comes to exercising. I have a weight machine plus 4 other workout things but I just hate doing it. Think I am going to challenge myself , yep, I am!!!! I will post each evening and let you know.

Childhood is so hard for most but going thru it heavy would be even worse. I wish you all success in guiding your children in the right direction. My children were thin like I was as a child and teen. But like me 2 of the 3 have gained a considerable amount since they have married.
I think back at my childhood and only thing I can think of that kept me thin was the exercising. I ate as any other child my age but I was always outside and playing sports. My weight became a problem when I became less active. Same with my children. They were outside players and played sports........ You know, typing this is just a clear answer to me. I should , we all should be exercising. Not only will it help us, it will give our kids a great example. I am sadden by the thought that I didn't give my kids a good example on choices of foods. They are following in my footsteps. Except for the youngest child. He married a health nut and bless his heart he really doesn't stand a chance. lol, I mentioned not long ago that he looks as if he has gained a couple lbs......his wife had him on diet the next day......but he is healthy!!!
Now, how do we get there?????

I am a very active person, in the sense that I run around all the time (one of those that will wash your coffee cup while the last swig is still in there), but I have never been good at leasure exercise, or discipline. when I walk I do well, only if my friend walks with me. It has to be my harsh friend, the one that pushes me, otherwise I wimp out. true confession time.

Gettin' I was preparing my daycare's menu for the next week and I thought of you-- we will have dosas one morning, with a bean & sprout filling. Dosas are a thin whole grain pancake, from India, and can be made with soy & brownrice flour, and even whole cracked wheat.

Hi all! I missed you guys!

As you know, I've been on vacation in Branson this week and did well. I love that you can eat nearly anywhere on this WOE and be good! The only straying I did was to have a sugar free turtle one day and 2 bites of a sugar free cheesecake yesterday. I'm not in Ketosis today, so I'm sure the sugar alcohol has done that. But no cravings and I'm not really worried about gaining weight--I'll find out Monday!

We have been working today to get our pool lined out. We opened it before we left and shocked it and treated it with algaecide, but our cover had a hole in it and it did a number on the water! No algae, but it was very cloudy when we got home today. Spent $150 after having the water tested to get the chemicals needed to straighten it out. Hopefully the water will be clear tomorrow. It's already up to 80 degrees, so that is nice...

I'd like to send Laura a virtual hug . I know she may not be online until she gets back but I'm thinking of her every day!!!!

June, Gettin, heidi, Cris--I missed you guys! Keep on tweaking until it works for you--It's all about finding what works and sticking to it! At least it has been for me...

Welcome Yankee.belle! The more the merrier around here!

Carol, if you are around Hello hun!

See ya'll soon,
Kim

Sorry I've been MIA. I've been going through some crap, and turned to my old ways of "dealing" - bingeing and purging. I had allowed myself to believe that that phase of my life was over, but in reality it wasn't. Deep down I knew, but was scared to admit it because then I'd had to face it and I wasn't ready to. I was in control you see. Riiiiiight

I had to take a step back and admit I was making all things weight related the focus of my life. It's good to a certain point, but not to the obsessive extreme I took it. It was so hard to admit that to myself, because my weight has literally been an almost lifelong obsession for me; it was like losing my purpose in life. I'm sure I'll still obsess but like I said, working on not taking it to the extreme I've been taking it. My mantra around here when someone slips is "we're all human, we all slip, move on". I truly believe that & always will. The hard part is giving myself a break about it. I won't fix it overnight, but I'm going to give it my all.

So, enough about me.

Carol - How is that sweet grandbaby? Any new pics to share?

June - Your garden sounds so nice.

Tannie - OMG Hannah is your Mini Me! What a cutie

Kim - Glad you had a fun vacation!!! And you're in Onederland!!!!!! I'm soooo excited for you!!!! I'm sure you walked tons in Branson, and will still be in Onderland Monday.

HT - Bless you for helping your DD with her weight issues. All my parents did was berate me about my weight. She'll probably have a growth spurt soon and hopefully it will all even out. You're a great mom

heidi - How's your back?

Laura -
