Tough love...setting boundaries...surviving!!!

What a great list this is! Sounds as if there's some good advice from loving moms Gettin' and DIY to help loving mother Hot-T get through a demanding situation. Hope this helps. Guys, apparently, just do not 'get it' about relief time for stressed-out moms. So we have to support our friends best we can!

I recall wondering if my own sister would survive single-momming her two girls - who turned out to be her best friends and good parents as well. My older niece has two kids and her younger sib is training to be a special eds teacher, which is like having LOTS of kids for a few hours a day. Difficult kids CAN turn out well. Hard-pressed moms CAN survive, with a little help from their friends. I love how people reach out on this list, to offer support for all the issues that can drive a carbaholic to crave carbs.

Good people. Great thread. I'm so glad I found my way here. So GLAD!

PS - But it was yesterday where I was so upset...I'm not as stressed this AM... We'll see what the day brings!

Cris- Really thats just a mental thing cause you KNOW in your mind you can't SEND these kids home at the end of the day. That is what heightens the stressfulness. I hope today is better for you!

My scale says ERROR; I'll say! 418.6#...EEEK!!!

Glancing at my food diary, I can see some errors in my eating, some stuff that I thought would 'burn off' before Sat morn's weigh in. No such luck. Busted!

But it's nothing to beat myself up about. It's just data, right? Feedback on how my body is handling what I eat and how little I move to burn calories. Sigh.

Nothing mysterious, as I see carby digressions noted in my food diary. My fault that I'm showing 4# MORE than I weighed just a few days ago. Bounce? Maybe. All I can do is aim to eat more fish-eggs than carby contraband and to eat appropriate portions of LC food. I know that I've eaten too much of LC food several times in the past few days. Got to pace myself eating crunchy carrots that taste sweeter than sugar to me. Probably too high in carbs to have lots of them at any single meal. Just got to pace myself. I can DO this. I ~CAN~!!!

Initial plan on 4/1 was to lose 4# a week for four weeks, to see THREE-dom by dropping 16# in four weeks. Daydreaming about that, I ate unwisely and am facing facts (or maybe just a bounce? Ah, dreaming!) and planning to do a mindful correction - by boiling up some eggs and fueling up on LC food all day, in appropriate portions. It's not brain surgery. It's just common sense.

Oh, this is absolutely what I need to hear, as I face facts this morning, with a 4# gain in 4days. I know that I eat more than I need, that I feel too full as I leave the table, even after eating LC food. Still eating more food than I need to eat. I'm thinking maybe to start counting bites, to stop after 12bites. That is probably enough for a meal.

I can hardly wait until I am able to stop short of 'full' as I eat a meal. That will be a RED LETTER DAY for me, as awareness arrives - that I too can eat more in an hour or so. What a great epiphany/awakening that will be for me! Thanks!

I , too, remember those 20's and 30's and 40's etc. when my weight went up and down and I tried every diet imagineable. The only diet where I've ever lost any significant wieght was Atkins and didn't discover low carb until I was in my 50's. I waited so long and now it is a matter of health. Having a cardiac cath can be a real eye opener. I have so many reasons to do this. If I can just remember them when staring a bag of chips in the face. Glad to have you guys/gals.

I took them to the doctor today. DS4 was AWFUL - non-compliant and a little brat. He was not listening to anyone - left the room and I had to pick him up and carry him back to the office. Then he cried and screamed and was just a total mess. The doctor talked to me about "being stern" and "following through." Yeah. I know this stuff. I have been a teacher for forever and a mom for a while, too...

So, then, we did NOT go to chick-fil-a like DS4 wanted. He was mad. It was bad. DS has a developmental delay and doesn't quite grasp things like he should...

Fast forward, and over a bunch of crap... I'm super stressed. All they do is ask for stuff at stores - something small is hardly ever enough. They constantly need to be prodded to do even the smallest tasks... I have been very stressed over my national certification work - the very few private moments I get go to that. This week was spring break and all I've done is clean up after puking, pooping, whining, crying, complaining, take-me-for-granted kids.

I tried, just a few minutes ago, to sneak out and go to Walmart while DH watched them. Swear to Jesus if they can't hear the door click from a 1/2 mile away. They come running to the front window before I can even get to the van SCREAMING at the top of their lungs, tears running down their faces. I gave up. I came back in, threw my keys and purse and just went and sobbed in a chair. I can't even go to GD Walmart for an hour of silence - not even to buy stupid groceries.

So here I am. You can't imagine how much I'd love to pig out right now - or maybe some of you can, which is why I am here. I just can't, you know? I think I will go make a 1 minute muffin and whip up the last of my cream for it. I'm just at the end of my rope with them - and what will I do this summer when I am with them for TEN WEEKS!?!?!?!?!? I gotta do something - and I ain't calling no nanny 911... AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! !
aww hun I know others have already said it well so I will leave the advice alone, just know that moms everywhere feel your pain!! my girls are 19, 16 and 9 and I have spent many a day during those years feeling as if I would lose my mind ( think I have a little!!) it WILL get better, I promise you. Now I have to hunt them down to get a hug and spend more time talking to them by text and email than face to face. I know that doesnt help your frustration right now but hang in there and vent here to those who understand!!

amen! let dad take them for a bit! I know its so hard to walk away and let them scream but the time away will do all of you good, it will let you walk back to them refreshed and a little calmer and able to deal.

Swiss u can do this I have found this site to be my biggest tool yet to be able to read and write and see it every day good or bad is a wonderfull tool , so i urge u to use it.
Zer when i first started this woe i used to eat alot of protein just to feel full and not deprived, but i always new in the back of my head id have to learn portion controll to finish losin and that is where i am now in my journey even on atkins i try and stick with only green veggies cuz i know the others will trigger a stall and cravings for me , but i had to learn that thru trial and error . I also love cantalloup and berries but again they will stall me so i have to stick to a very strict plan to be able to see the scale move then i have 2 days i can have them but sparingly and that is probably the hardest thing im learning. I got caught up in the carb candies and bars and shakes and was my biggest mistake they lie on them labels and they stall me every time even tho i liked em and was thinkin or should i say foolin myself that i was followin plan cuz i wasnt that stuff is more for maintenance and i am far from maintaining I even had my self believing that oh its better than me gettin off plan but a quick fix is still a quick fix .I eat better than most of my friends and i am satisfied with the food i eat but theres always them days when i say oh just have a bite , but i keep in mind it will stall me and i will have to work 10 times harder to get back to losin again and that helps me make better choices, and in the end im the one that will pay for my choices. You have done so well on ur journey so far , the more you learn by ur data will again arm u with yet another tool and we all need tools...... i know u will have them 4 pounds off in no time!!!!!!

Six minutes to cook fish fillets? Can it be that easy?

Just got this via email from a LC cook (Sunshine in Vegas) and am almost - almost - convinced that I too might cook up fish this easily. I wish it were so!
Quote:
I fixed one of my FAVORITE LC lunch/dinners today.... spray a glass dish with butter spray... lay 3 or 4 Tilapia fish fillets (straight out of the freezer) on it ... spray lightly with butter spray... sprinkle tiny bit of salt and lots of pepper ... paprika (for color)... and grated Parmesean cheese.... cover with wax paper .... NUKE in microwave for about 6 minutes.... they come out like "fried" fish. ... CRISPY, YUMMY and of course, quick!!... I ate the whole thing.
I'm sure it would be healthier than all the canned fish I eat. Probably lose weight a lot better, eating fish cooked up this way. She lost a LOT of weight and is now maintaining, which is not easy for a gal barely 5ft tall! Short folks struggle so!

Zer tilapia fillets are really easy to cook up...our Walmart has a box of individually wrapped ones for around 11 dollars my oldest DS loves it cause he can make his own easy and only open what he would eat at a time! when i read your post i thought "oh that would be good cooked in Coconut Oil!"

Someone suggested using coconut in anything being battered up, as the coconut gets crisp and lends flavor as well. Coconut oil is a great addition to my LC life - as I use it to melt in my hot slosh and carry some to the kitchen to cook up scrambles all soft and golden in barely warm VCO. No sizzle, just soft golden eggs with a faint flavor of coconut. OMG, does eating get any better?

Wal-Mart also has individual servings of frozen fish, already seasoned or plain, in microwavable packaging for under a $1 each. They have tilapia, salmon, sole, cod and baby scallops and are very tasty.

My favorite fish though, is mahi mahi. I sometimes get the frozen steaks at Costco. Love 'em on the bbq cuz they are so firm and really meaty. Very mild in flavor and do well in many types of dishes.

I wish I could love the fish! I just hate the fishy taste. Comes from being in stinky old Indiana. Grrrr. We don't get fresh caught and I have no idea how to properly fix fish.

I too, have some trouble fixing it at home. I like it out a lot. If you go with something really mild, like cod or walleye you may like it better.

My favorite currently is the Cajun Catfish fillets they serve at Cheddar's. Fantastic! (and I'm not really a huge catfish fan, either)

P.S. Sad day today, went to my greatniece's funeral. Only a month old. It was very rough.

As for Walleye, is that really mild? Cause it really smells like crapola when the fair is here and they have it.

Gettin - my sister also hates fishy fish, but she loves the bbq'd mahi mahi. I just baste it in a little olive oil and put it right on the grill.

If you ever see it anywhere, give it a try, you might like it.

Fish is the easiest thing to cook. It's done when it "flakes" and is no longer opaque.

Here's a picture of fresh mahi mahi steaks

and here they are on the grill along with some chicken and shrimp

I wasn't sure either, but when we went to Red Lobster last they told us the fresh fish menu went from strongest to mildest and Walleye was at the bottom--I personally haven't had it yet. I did have grouper when I was at Disneyworld and it was very mild.

well now im sick i doubt i'll be eating much or drinking much today as i can barely swallow...im sure its strep, i get it once a year or so and it goes away by the next day after a day of MISERY lol....my friends cant believe that it goes away without a trip to the dr but im tired of them telling me its strep and the antibiotics dont work anyhow so i just tough it out and then its gone ....

i was fine last night and woke up in the middle of the night and could barely swallow, soaked in sweat from a raging fever....i dont feel much better right now but i still have errands to run today and older son is going to a bday party...im begging out of it because if that friend gets strep, it will land her in the emergency room

i cant even swallow the pills to take the pain outta my hip so this could be an interesting day LOL...im sure i'll be back on here later
