What's so hard about living LC - salmon, asparagus, eggs?

If LC involves eating poached salmon and roasted asparagus with hollandaise sauce or bearnaise sauce, does eating get any better than that? I don't think so. My carby eating was never so tasty as a proper LC meal can be. Are you SURE that you find LC a distasteful way of life? It's not all eggs eggs eggs - not that I dislike eggs, but... I don't eat them every dang day. Salmon, I can eat day in and day out, especially a nice moist poached salmon with a dainty sauce and a few spears of asparagus on the side. What's your favorite LC menu?

Difference between Hollandaise & Béarnaise (Bearnaise) describes hollandaise and bearnaise sauces, for those who are interested in sauces.

To each his own I say...ITA that I would much rather have a nice protein and veggie with a really nice sauce of some sort and be able to eat when I'm hungry than to munch on rice cakes and air popped corn and never be truly full. But...everyone is different and I'm a firm believer that every person has to find what works for them FOREVER (which is the key word here).

My favorite foods are carb foods lol and fish makes me sick. even been trying to eat it lately any fish i eat has to be over processed and breaded so it doesnt taste like fish! LOL

I gave myself a weight and date and if i dont meet that, then im seriously considering going back on. I would love to have some turkey bacon. and pepperoni!

Agreed, that the healthiest weight-loss plan is one that fits a person's lifestyle, that can be maintained, so that weight loss holds. Yo-yo dieting is hazardous. Oddly, having been massive for more than half my life, I'm healthier than some who have gone up and down while I have...erm...'maintained' my massive size and let my organs cope as best they can without challenging diets to strip off weight that comes back. Even my diet efforts did not mess up my body's great Scots-Irish genetic heritage. Hopefully I shall benefit even more at a normal weight, as I hit my mid-60s and look forward to a more active dotage!

You ladies never fail to inspire. Two days back on track over here...
Almost looking forward to weighing in on Monday...well, as much as one can want to do that. Eating strawberries and cream as we speak - now how's that for a "diet!"
PS - Went to a baby shower this afternoon. Passed on Hawaiian punch AND Publix buttercream-frosted cake.... I am BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personal preference has to be accounted for in any lifelong plan.

Oh, I see what you mean. Fish in its natural state is somewhat new to me, as I grew up eating fish sticks so breaded that there was very little fish to each finger of breading. I do not know yet how to cook fresh fish properly - so that it pleases me as restaurant salmon pleases me. As I lose weight, I hope to develop stamina that will allow me to shop and cook LC fish well.

Opening cans of fish is a poor way to get LC fish, but it's what I can do now. My cupboard is stocked with tuna, salmon, sardines. I ate sardines long before I started LC, so all I had to do was learn to eat sardines without Triscuit to find myself a dependable LC protein source.

If you DO come back to LC, maybe you can enjoy those meats again. Maybe you can build on eggy protein, if fish is not an option. We are all seeking to find what works with our body, with our bloodtype, with our genetic origin - all ways of determining what our body seeks to nurture cells that have a genetic memory that predates our birth.

Confession of a canopener junkie...

I want to say here that I know that eating canned fish is not the best menu. It's what I can manage, at my weight and cumbersome size. I live with people who buy fresh fish and cook it up and who see me wielding my canopener as if it is a primary kitchen tool. Well, for me, canopeners are a basic kitchen tool. My mother opened more cans than I can now imagine. I ate canned spinach and all sorts of canned vegies. I wonder that she did not know better, but maybe she was no more a cook than I am. I'd be lost without my canopener!

So I tout canned fish. If you are cooking and eating fresh fish and shaking your head at my insistence that canned fish CAN work for a LC plan, I understand. I shall someday be stirring up great buttery sauces and simmering fresh fish to a moist perfection. That's my intention, at any rate. Someday...

I'm not going to judge you, Zer.

We all have to do what works for us in the time that it works for us.

For me, I ate a taco salad for breakfast this morning. Unconventional to be sure, but if it keeps me on plan, why not? I like to eat what I want to eat, so I'll darned well eat it.

Zer - I started out at 375...you are only about 40 pounds over that...I would imagine you are about to really start feeling better. At 375 and 5'9 things were starting to get tough for me, but they were still do-able. I'm really rooting for you - I think you are about to start seeing the fruits (low-carb ones, of course...) of your labors!

Zer~ I am NOT a cook (thank God my hubby loves to cook), so the funny thing is that I always think it's great that you make a point to eat lean fish so regularly... when I can barely get myself to eat tuna every once in a while! Ha! I guess we're all constantly comparing ourselves to what others are doing, which is probably part of the reason why this forum works so well!

hi heather and everyone:

Actually, I didn't post anything or say anything when I saw the scale hit twoterville because I'm afraid to claim it (those dratted bouncing pounds that keep coming and going!) but I've been under for 2 days now (however, I ate asparagus both days so I'm hoping it isn't just water weight that will come back) I figure if it stays under for my official weigh in on Monday, THEN I'll claim it and dance/celebrate and have good news to end the month with even if I don't lose as much as I had hoped to this month.

I'm so glad everyone is doing so well and back on track. Let's see...so far Ifeel like some others on here in that I'm not a person who likes to run but I'd like to be able to if I need to AND I'm not someone who likes fish-I force myself to eat tuna and am trying some other fish lately and learning how to make it. I just got bones in it too many times in the past and when I get a bone-THAT's IT! I'm DONE!! but I have to change that attitude because fish is healthier and should help with my weight loss, supposedly and it also is supposed to have all those beneficial oils. I have to say I don't like strong flavors of fish so I don't know if I will ever care for salmon but I think it is time I try it. One thing that still revolts me is thought of sushi or sashimi (like ahi tuna) that uncooked or partially cooked/partially raw stuff makes me want to vomit when I think of personally consuming it. Seeing others eat it is no problem but I don't want ANY. If that was what made ya gain weight oe be fat, I'd be able to turn sideways, stick my tongue out and immitate/be mistaken for a zipper! *L*

Zer, give it time, and you'll be cooking fresh stuff. I was 376.2 at my highest so I wasn't too far from where you are now. Like Cris says, things were getting difficult but they got easier as I shed the weight. Soon you'll be zipping around and maybe you'll be kinder to yourself when you describe yourself and not refer to yourself as massive and other negative self images-at least that's my hope for you because you're so wonderful and I want you to feel wonderful about yourself and what you weigh and what you've achieved and will continue to do!**hugs** Although, I have to admit, even with the weight I've lost, when I look in the mirror, I am horrified at how big I still am and how far I have to go. But, I tell myself I am doing something about it and I'll be weighing less with time and I won't always look this way-I'm going to do better and be better-no more living life on the sidelines for this woman!

I completed a 5K a couple of weeks ago. I had started the Couch to 5K program but never completed it, but went ahead and did the 5K anyway. What a thrill!!!

So I am back on the Couch to 5K program this week and aiming to complete another 5K in June and cut down on my time.

The next race I am aiming for after that is a 10K on Labor Day.

And then next year I hope to run the same 5K as my first one instead of walk it...and do it in under 30 minutes.

Running and training really are addicting for me. I remember using running as a way to deal with my emotions following a particularly bad breakup years ago. I was more than 100 pounds less back then, but the wonderful feeling that anything is possible that I get when running is the same.

Alas...scales show weight is up today...

Could not resist weighing at 2am Friday morn. So I climbed aboard. Twice. Scales flashed numbers, all higher than the 413.2 that I saw Wed. Sigh. I'm hopeful that I can manage my food well today and that Saturday I shall see a figure that is down - maybe even close to the 413.2 that I saw Wed.

I am sad to say that I can see some entries in my food dairy that are probably to blame for a rise in weight. I think I have eaten too much food that is not fish, as a way of avoiding the kitchen.

Snacking on LC chocy pudding, for instance, is a delusion - even if it offers 20g of protein per 6oz can. I suspect that is just too more-ish for me to have on hand. I've got six cans left. Going to ration them. Eating that daily has probably not done me any good. It's a treat, not a staple.

More fish today. My salmon will finish today, with 3 meals from a small can. Added chopt onions to the fishy-mayo mixture yesterday as I heaped a plate with shaved celery to mix in with the fishy-mayo. It's a filling salad for me.

Then, I'll try to do a 2d meal of fish - either tunafish or sardines - later on, with possibly some hard boiled eggs as snacks or as part of a fishy meal.

All of this is food that I enjoy. Eating it is satisfying to me. Not a problem. All in all, I am seeing healthier choices in my life. I am even talking a bit to others about my scales, my weighing challenge (to get on the scale before it cuts off after 8seconds and to stand steady so the numbers stop changing) and to confess my fear of falling, of struggling to rise from a chair as I push hard with my arms to compensate for my lack of lift from leaden legs. It's all scary for me. Probably scary for those who see me struggle to rise, to move, to stand or walk. I am hopeful that I shall soon show improvement in ability to manage movement in a slightly more graceful way. So hard to be so clumsy, so afraid of falling, of looking absurd. All of it so humbling. Agh!

That said, I'm glad to have scales, to know what I weigh. It's all data, just data. It's part of my...(pause)...life, to take care of me, to be aware of just what is going on with my body (such as it is), to nourish my body, to adjust my LC plan as needed to fuel without gaining weight from too much food for a body that is not burning calories as fast as I'd like it to burn off fat/weight.

Muscle weighs more than fat? Is it remotely possible that I am getting a bit stronger? Could be. I feel stronger sometimes, as I heave myself in bed, using my arms to lift me, to move my body. Some of that just HAS to be a strength-building activity, don't you think? I'm lifting, moving, all my weight, as I haul myself up so my feet don't hit the footboard. It's a struggle, but I imagine it's like working with weights, as I use my arms to lift and pull me up an inch or so, then an inch more. When my batwing itches me, I like to think it is changing in response to the lifting my arms do. Could be. Itching is a sign of change. I've been using a hairbrush lately, to quell the itching I feel from the flabby flesh under my left batwing. Clawing will tear the flesh, so I use a hairbrush to soothe and stimulate itching skin that demands attention, itching me like mad and leading me to think that just MAYBE that flabby flesh is changing, a bit. Pendulous swinging batwings. Gad, so much flesh!

Oh, one can hope there are changes happening in my body as I am getting better about making LC choices! Anyway, that's my morning babble, as I feel the energy from my hot slosh charging my cells and giving me hope for a good LC day.

May your Friday be a fruitful and productive LC day. Here's to burning fat!

Peanut flour? Anyone using this?

Saw some threads about peanut flour. Got curious. Went to ByrdMill to see what the heck peanut flour is (peanuts with oil pressed out, then ground into flour), then to DailyPlate for this breakdown:

DIY, so glad you are working on boosting your water consumption. Your body WILL adapt as you increase hydration. It takes time. A body that is used to not having enough water CAN become a better-functioning body, in time. I'm almost sure you will enjoy a BIG drop in weight as your colon lets go of what has been clinging to its walls for lack of moisture. I've never gone for a colonic cleansing but have heard stories of amazing stuff produced by this process of flushing out, lavage, that some folks do to make sure their colon is cleaned out.

For me, drinking plenty of water is just an easier way to keep my colon happy.

Good morning!

I am so much more relaxed today! I am going to play all day! Hit Wal-Mart, buy some ingredients and make my final stab at a cheesecake for induction that is so good, you'd think it was only for maintenance!

Oh, and I have some other recipes I'm going to make. Here is a sneak peak at one I had yesterday:

<---taco bowl

<---taco salad

<-- So crisp, you can hold it in your hand (sorry for the thumbnails. The regular pictures are so big.

I'm up in weight, but it's totally water weight, so I'm cool with it. It'll be gone in a week or so.

Y'all probably read this as "food diary", right? But it bugs me that it's a typo in a post of mine (grrr-r-r):

...sad to say that I can see some entries in my food dairy...
Got to start proofreading my posts in time to catch such errors, fingerfaults, typos. Really bugs me to see how IMperfect I am!

Maybe you've created muscle, which weighs more than fat and burns calories faster than fat. What you are doing will pay off in the long run, even if you see more pounds than when you started at Curves. KUTGW!!!

I've got a thread going where I can talk about my relationship to my scales.

Yes, it is a relationship, a funny one. I am liking my talking scales a lot, even if the data delivered is not always a lower number than previously shown. Check it out at http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/lo...l#post10115136
