Meet Lee Rodgers' Whoosh Fairy™

Picture of The Whoosh Fairy™? See how Lee Rodgers explains the whoosh phenomenon that leads so many of us to chug-a-lug so much water, a sound that is said to be dear to The Whoosh Fairy™'s heart:
Quote:
The term for this phenomenon was coined by Lee Rodgers circa 1995 after losing 12 pounds overnight.
Quote:
I had been following the diet diligently counting carbs and staying well within my CCL (critical carbohydrate level). After experiencing no losses in scale weight or inches for several weeks, I awakened and reluctantly got on the scales one Saturday morning and I was down a whopping 12 pounds. Talk about breaking a stall. Boy howdy! Of course I got on and off the scale several times to be sure it wasn't a fluke. It wasn't. From Whoosh - what is it

Local franchise owner for Home Helper will visit when I call. The process includes an in-home assessment of needs and then an introduction to a suitable match employed and bonded by HH - and all I have to do is call. But... fact is, there is no room in my 10x10ft room for anyone to walk about. No traffic pattern. I'd like to fix that before asking anyone to visit and to "help" me clean up in here. It's a process. Just calling to get a price is a start. Tough - telling a stranger what I weigh and describing my limited mobility (and I use that word in the widest possible interpretation of the word 'mobility', which I am stretching beyond belief!). I think it is do-able, in time and with a high tolerance on HH's part for my Aspie fear of encroachment. Can I tolerate 4hrs of companionship? Not in this room. It's fine for me, but it becomes intolerable with a 2d person in here. So my job is to create space.

Use of kitchen is tricky. Host has first dibs on 6burner stove and ovens and the whole kitchen. We work as best we can around host in sharing facilities. We? About 20 women from all over share this Residence, but only a few actually cook to any degree. The SriLankans are the most intense cooks, usually working late at night to avoid possible conflicts with our host. So inviting anyone to 'help' me cook means explaining that we may - or may not - have access to kitchen at any time.

This is the safest place I've ever lived and has been a real blessing to me for nearly two decades, since 1989 when I was led to call and ask to rent a room so that I could work a job that was 80miles from my home, my cats. Sigh. Too far for me to commute daily, so I rented a room to sleep in during the week - and I drove home to San Diego on wknds. Did that for 2yrs. Sigh.

Anyway, that's what I know about Home Helper's service. I can get a HH to drive me places, to shop for me, to do what needs to be done while I am not able. Just knowing that is a big relief to me. Light cleaning is possible, if I open up floorspace in this room for anyone to move about. Heavier cleaning can be arranged, as the owner of this HH franchise has resources. I like her. I believe this is the beginning of a durable relationship. I'm going slowly to accommodate my Aspie fear of getting in over my head, which I explained to a woman who will bring a degree of comfort into my life. Nice nice lady.

I was referred to this service by my HMO's social worker, a lovely lady who accommodates me by allowing telephone 'visits' (for free). I'm truly blessed.

Who ~IS~ this person I have become on LCFriends???

I still cannot believe my anticipation about collecting data from my talky scale!

I am staying away from the kitchen as much as possible, so I am not tempted by an array of carby temptations - even the milk is tempting to me, I swear! - but my attitude toward the scale is that it can give me ANY DATA to record as I work on developing a healthy LC rhythm of eating protein to fuel my cells.

I am indebted to the people on LCFriends who share their experience and wisdom as they trek this uphill path to let go of baggage and weight we have been carrying for longer than we had to. I'm learning to LET GO & LET GOD.

Oh, Deb, this one caught me by surprise! Too too funny!

What a funny image. Got to get it printed out and affix it to my talky scale!

TMI? Probably.

Thanks for the congrats. I'm trying to view my scales as a provider of DATA that I record (just as I record financial ups and downs) and consider as a guide for modifying my living pattern. I'm writing the weight (up or down) in big RED numbers in my datebook. Looks really cool. Inspires me. BIG RED NUMBERS!

About poop, I am not at all sure what psyllium does for me, so I do not use it daily. I think it gives bulk and I think it gives some slippery-ness too, helping stuff glide right on out of me. Every ounce helps me get closer to THREE-dom!

Drinking saltwater? Scares me. It sounds really drastic and I'm not at all sure my body will react well. I may take a spoonful of psyllium, just to see if it has salutary effect. Bottle says I can take several times a day, but I'm not sure. I tend to have loose bowels that move faster than my feet move, so I have to be careful what I do to increase activity in that area. With all the water I drink, I am hitting the loo about every 4hrs, possibly because of the Vit.C in the stevita fruity flavoring that I use to make SoCal sludge palatable. Sludge? Yep, I drink tapwater. Talk about risky, eh? Scary stuff floats in it!

Atkins says 75% fat is optimal for LC weight loss

DIY, as I was adding VCO to my hot slosh this ayem, it dawned on me that you may be shortchanging yourself on fat. That could slow down evacuation, I'm thinking. Atkins says 75% fat, 20% protein, 5% carbs (colorful vegie carbs, unprocessed, for the best results) - and I drop my menu into FitDay.com to see if my fat is where it's supposed to be. Just love to see how the pie chart looks as I drop a day's worth of food into FitDay. Always reassuring to see that my fat is almost up to 75% and that my carbs are close to 5%. Maybe you can do a check and find out if you are in balance with these ratios. Might help. Or not. Just found myself thinking about that as I put two spoonsful of VCO into my hot slosh and stirred like crazy to melt it in the hot water. Yummers! What a great way to begin the day - with 40g of protein and those last bitter bits of raw cacao that always need to be scraped out with a spoon. Bitter but great!

I did an hour weight training class today. I need to do cardio still but don't have it in me to jog right now....and Im babysitting at 5 so we'll see what happens. I may have to actually try doing the winsor pilates arobic tape or sumthin. Hoping I can get some energy to do that.

I had grilled chicken, green beans and carrots at cracker barrel today for lunch. I finished it all!!

Yeah, their grilled chicken strips are pretty low carb and green beans/carrots are good veggie choices and I didn't touch the bread so not so bad.

Just wishing I had the energy to do some cardio but I know it wont happen.

BUT

I do have some....

GOOD NEWS

Guess which silly wit girl tried on size 12 levis yesterday? Yep. Was me!!! The jeans and the shorts BOTH FIT!

A bit snug but could get them on.

I bought the shorts

Interestingly enough the walmart size 12 pants were no where near buttoning. Dunno the deal on that one but hey. I know I still have a big belly pooch going. There is a lot of skin still there but there is still fat there too so right now I just worry about making the fat go. The skin...well it's a work in progress. Someday. I hope that someday is the beginning of next year though.

Size 12 Desdemona, sure sounds good to me!

We'll be seeing a pic of Des in those size 12 shorts? I'm trying to imagine what it must feel like to try on any normal size stuff off a rack. Can't imagine it.

Hi Girls!

I haven't checked in for 3 days now. DH has been off work and we've been hanging out together. We went to a park and walked on some of the nature trails. Tried to fly a kite we just bought but there was no wind. Bought a new Wii game that came out called Worms. Used to love the PC version that we played many years ago. That game sure is fun. Your team of worms has to blow up/shoot the other team of worms. It was raining and chilly and we did a lot of snuggling.

Rubyinparadise, welcome! How goes induction?

DIY, grats on the weightloss!

Sally, how goes your "alternative plan?"

Deb, gorgeous Glamourshot, and perfect for St Patty's Day. It looks like you are surrounded by shamrocks.

bwylde, sorry about the stress eating and the bad IBS consequences. Glad you were able to get back on plan. You're right is so not worth it.

Hot Tamale, no need to apologize for having RL get in the way of posting on an Internet board. I know how it goes! Next week when school starts again I don't think I'll have much time to post either. This coming quarter is supposed to be the hardest of the 4. Joy! How goes your Spring Cleaning? I had big plans to get my apt. into ship-shape over the spring break but I didn't get much done. Man I'm so lazy.

Cleo, woo hoo for reaching Twoterville! I want to take an essence of Cleo pill so I can be just like you.

Brenda, hop back on the wagon--you can do it. No need to do a drastic fast if you don't really feel into it, ya know?

Heather, I agree with the others you might want to tone down the highly processed meats and high sodium stuff. (I should take my own advice here ) Maybe even cut out the Atkins shakes if still not losing. Not sure what the ingredients are though, never had those shakes. Keep the faith!

Laura, I'm so sorry to hear that your things are turning up battered and broken. How frustrating! When is your birthday? Must be coming up real soon b/c you said you'd be 41 by this Monday?

Hi Angie! Hi Skittlesmom! Hi Gettinserious!

Des, nice to see you again! WooHoo on the size 12 jeans.

Zer, congrats on the visit from the Woosh Fairy. Yay! The home helper service sounds like something that could really benefit you. I hope that works out.

I have been tempted this past week to eat off plan food because I'm irritated and discouraged that I'm not losing anymore...but it's my own fault. All during my vacation I've been grazing all day, eating too many calories, carbs and sodium. Once my motivation of almost daily weight loss is gone temptation takes over. I know I will get back on track Monday because school starts up again and I will be back on my schedule.

I got a huge hankerin' a few days ago to do CAD. I spent a couple of hours reading the CAD boards. I did CAD years ago, before I went with Atkins. I got a little out of control with the reward meal and ended up gaining 7 pounds in one week. I guess I'm just fooling myself but I'm really starting to miss the stuff I can't have like potatoes, rice, etc. Cauliflower subs don't do it for me. I'm sure my cravings have a lot to do with the increased carb levels I've been eating--healthy food, but not good to be eating for weight loss. Been sneaking DH's grapes. I know they have 1 carb each but all day yesterday I kept popping a couple in my mouth every time I passed the kitchen. I probably ate 20 carbs just in grapes. Then there's the frozen blueberry-heavy cream concoction I've been making. I don't think I can handle fruit right now. I'm glad the blueberries are gone now.

I like to go grocery shopping before a major holiday because so much good stuff is on sale. I got a cheap ham. DH and I won't be able to have a sit-down Easter dinner with his work schedule so I might as well cook the ham today and enjoy it. I got some fresh green beans and salad fixins too. DH will have to heat up his plate when he gets home from work at 3am. heh.

Have a great weekend ladies!

Thanks Cleo but here's the deal.....I lost about 70 pounds or so last year (was neck and neck with Hot Tamale! ) but then I totally went off plan over the summer and fall, heck most of winter. I didn't gain everything back tho...started at 350. So I've lost 20 pounds since restarting this Feb. Still pretty good, but I'm just kinda disappointed I've done so poorly these past 2 weeks. I just can't be trusted with time off! sheesh.

Well, I hate to be the show-off, but I went from 325 to 211 in only 7 months and then gained it all back over 2007 (I took the whole year off), plus another 25. Nobody is worse at the 'time off' thing than me.

You go girl! I look forward to seeing you hit Onederland by December 31 of this year.

That's right. You heard me! With any luck, I'll be there with you.

I can never take time off again. Both times I've done it before have resulted in 100+ gains and a lot of heartache. Not worth it!

That picture was taken on my one year Atkinsversary holding the pants I was wearing in this picture:

Kim Jan 2007a.jpg

However, the pants are mysteriously missing in the picture because I forbade anyone from photographing me from the waist down!

Just wanted to document where I was at the one year mark. At the two year mark I'm hoping to fit in one leg of those pants--lol. Need all the reminders I can get to never go back there again. No amount of starch is worth it!

Hi-
*YAY!* To Zer and Des!! KUTGW!! and Des, how AWESOME -a SIZE 12!!!!! WOOHOO! and zer will be in the 3's so soon! Best wishes with the HH people-sounds like a great idea!

Been eating a planned deviation the last day or so and definitely tomorrow on my B-day. I was wondering if I had dialed my metabolism down so I decided to carb cycle this weekend and see if next week I can the weight loss going again. Been into some salty stuff too so we'll see. Come monday, back to induction, low salt and increase in exercise. In honor of cleo hitting twoterville,on friday at the gym, I walked for 50 minutes on the treadmill at an incline of 3 and a pace of 3.2...and then did the weight circuit..and this morning the scale read 302 *grumble snarl* SO, I decided to carb cycle (yes, sunday being my birthday also figured into the timing) and then get back on induction monday. Hope this works and doesn't blow up in my face/scale.

Hoping for not too much damage and a return to losing weight next week.

Happy Easter!

--Laura

Happy Birthday, Laura!

Enjoy your planned deviation! I know those don't hurt (save for possible sodium issues and who CARES) so long as plans and exercise are maintained otherwise. And with the way you scoot your booty around, I can see it being a total non-issue.

And WOOHOO on the treadmill incline and speed! I so can't walk at 3.2 MPH! You are so the butt-kicker! I can't go above 2.5 MPH or I get shin splints, so I have to keep increasing the incline instead.

It is so good to have you back with us regularly! I missed you.
