Angie! I can hear you panting, you're typing so fast. I'm glad you stop by, and thank you for the kudos!

*I plan to go shopping this weekend for more foods that have less sodium and see if that helps.
Eating less sodium just HAS to help your body out, as it processes fuel to find the needed nutrients. Might also try more water, as the rule is 8x8oz plus 8oz for each 25# one hopes to lose; water is an essential part of digestion and all the waste removal that our organs do when they are adequately hydrated. Dehydration slows down metabolism and all the essential body processes. I think you will see better results with more water, less sodium in processed foods. You are SUPER on getting exercise. Yay, YOU!

LOL Angie-- I hope you know I was just razzing. I was cracking up! Sometimes I go back and read something and wondered how I didn't pass out right there. I'm glad that even though you're busy you still hang out with us!

Isn't it funny how tone really carries through, even in writing?

deb-- Have you been having a good birthday? What are your plans for today?

behind-the-mask-- I'm with Zer. Girl, for like 2 weeks I was retaining water something fierce due to sodium. I was so ticked! It sucks butter leavin's.

Where's Nedn?! She hasn't been around lately.

In fact, we're missing some folks!

I hope Laura is having a ball with all of her items home where they should be!

Zer~ Thanks for the words of wisdom and the encouragement! My new-ish mini goal is to drink at least 8 12oz. glasses of water a day (96 ounces), which is WAY more than I usually drink. If I can stick to this, which I have so far, then maybe I'll up it in a week or so.

While starting to pay attention to sodium, I'm realizing just how many of the foods I eat have TONS in them! Dang it. Soooo, time for more of the Atkins basics (grilled chicken, broccoli, cauliflower, salads, eggs, steak) and some of Cleo's Oopsies . Besides that, I'll be filling up on H2O!!!

Any suggestions for grab-and-go low sodium snacks or meals???

Even celery is rated high on sodium, so it is in everything. I think you will see your weight drop if you stop eating salty commercial stuff. ALGittleman (a LC dietician at annlouise.com) suggests lots of herbs and thermogenic spices as a way of avoiding salt as a seasoning. With practice, we can shift from salting to using mixtures that have no salt at all. Do you use Mrs.Dash's array of seasonings? Amazing flavors, sans salt/MSG! Or mix up your own selection of herbs/spices. But MrsD has a zillion mixes that might prove useful in anyone's kitchen. A zillion? Okay, maybe just 13.... see more at mrsdash.com where all the products are shown and recipes too. Yum!

Missing? Are we missing some of our regulars?

I figure many folks have spring break happening, with travel plans and family underfoot. Life happens. Hope we'll see some familiar folks traipsing back as things get back to normal (whatever THAT is) after Easter and spring break.

My host has left home, off on a retreat, so no meals are offered. A chance for me to serve up my own menu - mostly fish and egg, if I'm a smart cookie (LC cookie, of course). I'm trying to stay away from the kitchen, where sweet milk hums my name and sugary cereal whispers from the supply in the cabinet. Agh!

So I'm doing my hot slosh first thing, as a fast-breaker and a great protein start for me. Nibbling on freeze dried crans and pumpkin seeds (for the zinc) to keep my metabolism revving, a tablespoon or so at a time. I have tunafish and sardines stocked up, along with cans of wild red salmon. I'm trying to eat more often, but less food at each sitting. That's what THIN FOLKS do! And I'm pausing to drink water when I think I'm hungry, as THIN FOLKS do. It's a fact, that THIN FOLKS regard 'hunger' as a feeling that will pass, while I generally regard 'hunger' as a 4-alarm fire alert that I'm on the verge of starvation and need to gobble something - anything - fast. Aghhh!

It's 5pm and probably a good time for me to 'do' some protein so that I am nourished and so that my cells can function to process more fat OUT of me. Saturday morn is my date with my talking scales. I want to hear good news!

Salt - no longer considered a 'safe' food?

From MrsDash.com... Breaking News: the FDA is considering removing salt from the "generally recognized as safe" food list."

The FDA is considering removing salt (sodium chloride) from the "generally recognized as safe" (GRAS) food list. Hi-
Des-good for you on the exercise and I say eat real food!

Heather-hope you cna cut down on the sodium!

Cleo-well..I have boxes stacked to the ceiling and a tiny path through the house. Now it will be to get things unpacked and sorted and put together. Sadly, the moving company didn't do such a great job packing and I ahve lots of damage, scratched, scuffs an broken things-and this is just the big pieces of furnitutre-I haven't even gotten into the boxes yet-heaven only knows how many little pieces those things are in! *eek!* I guess I'll find out as the week progresses and I get more boxes open and unpacked. Right now I'm just trying to get stuff put back together/reassembled and put in a place in the house so I can start arranging stuff and get some boxes empty. So far: I have emptied a total of ONE box *yay!* only 167 more to go! SURELY all this rearranging and unpacking effort over the next weeks will result in my getting into twoterville.. *crossing fingers*

Zer-I love mrs.dash seasonings! Hope your scale tells you wonderful news tomorrow!

Laura, so good to hear you sounding like your old self, now that you have your stuff around you (stacked ceiling high?) and are at home with your kitties. I'm hopeful that your boxed stuff will not be as damaged as the big stuff seems to be. Just keep on burning calories unpacking and breaking down boxes. It's all counting toward TWOterVille, each calorie burned stashing and trashing. YAY!

Just talked to someone at HomeHelper about hiring an able-bodied person to come in and help with - or DO - stuff that is too hard for me to do or that takes me forEVER to do badly. I'd like to have a clean space around me, as summer comes and I'll want more air in this densely packed room that is my home. I'm going to meet with the owner next week and see what she can find for me in the way of a shopper/helper who can do some cleaning and maybe cooking too. Errands that take me so long to do? Someone can do for me, sounds like.

I feel as if this will improve the quality of my life. Well worth the cost.

And I am pushing to find my way to THREE-dom, ounce by ounce! I'm sure I'll have more energy and be more able to manage as I reduce the 'baggage' I'm toting everywhere I go! What will that feel like, I wonder, to move at 199#? First I've got to get to 399# - and it's a goal that I'm almost tasting. So close!!!

how to fight the temptations (a new thread)

how to fight the temptations? is a new thread I just found and plan on visiting often to hear how others are coping with temptation, with missing the mark ('sin' means 'miss the mark') and with the disappointment in myself that I feel as some carby food gets into my mouth and I just KNOW that I'm playing an awful game, betraying myself, cheating myself of the good weight loss that I know is possible with LC/Atkins.

Make a wish? I wish I thought like a THIN PERSON thinks.

I wish I thought like a THIN PERSON thinks. That's the wish that came to mind as I took an online test at Memoriter - and I wrote it down, realizing that it is my most heartfelt wish, to think as a THIN PERSON thinks. Strange? Yeah.

What is your own most heartfelt wish? Does it surprise you? Mine does.

Too excited to sleep. Weighed at 0430. This is SO crazy!

418.2 is what my talking scale said, but I saw 417.0 skid by more than once as I teetered unsteadily on that scale!

There are whole threads devoted to what prompts a body to poop. Some say taking a magnesium (citrate?) pill at night helps them evacuate in the morn. When I am concerned about an absence of action, I start chugging hot HOT water until the stoppage is flushed out. I mean a 32oz tumbler with a trace of lemon or chicken broth crystals, then another one, then another one, until my plumbing gives way. We are, after all, a pretty simple tube. What goes in MUST come out. I hate the idea of waste material in my digestive tract being re-absorbed. Yucky! I've tried psyllum husks, but water never fails. Prunes are useful. Try eating 3 or 4 a day. Might work!

If you are not moving your bowels daily, I'd call it constipation. Why not? Waste material needs to be evacuated. Peristaltic activity moves food and fiber along from one end (mouth at top) to t'other end (bottom) and water helps to keep things mo-o-oving right along. Plant roughage helps, so I aim to use celery as the base for my fishy-mayo midday salads. A couple of cups of shaved celery is quite a bit of fiber. Maltitol is such an accelerator for me that I dare not eat anything with maltitol in it - WHOOOSH!

My guess is that you need to educate your gut, if you have a lifelong habit of not evacuating. Check out some threads to see about using magnesium as a helpful aid to regularity. Just think of the POUNDS that may be flushed out if you can get your digestive tract to working. I mean, LOTS of stuff is waiting, if you are eating any fiber at all. Just have a lazy colon (or some such thing) and might benefit from stimulating it with yoga or chakra work. Maybe?
