WOE: lowcarb foods
Start Date: argh
B- 1.5 eggs, 1.5 oz J/D sausage, 1/8 c. shredded cheddar, 1 tbsp sour cream, .5 oz smoked ham (I made double this and halved it for 1 serving)

L- 1/2 c. Buffalo chicken dip on salad greens

D- 1/2 c. Buffalo chicken dip w/ 1/2 green pepper

S- 1 or 2 hb eggs

Exercise- Shoveling snow.

I have had some thoughts about my woe thus far and have had some interesting insights that I am going to share with the main lobby as well as in my groups. So this is going to be copy and paste deal.

I am a plop and drop kind of person. And it has been getting in the way of my losing weight. Which causes me to stress out and eat. By plop and drop, I mean that I take a big old honking tablespoon of sour cream, cream cheese and whatnot and just plop and drop it in my food. A good two or three of them and count it as "one" tablespoon. When in fact there is actually TWICE that amount and sometimes three times as much.

I am a creamyaholic. Got to have cream cheese in my eggs, sour cream is good on anything and whatever food with cheese and hold the whatever please! It is little wonder that I stall out and have the nerve to wonder WHY! DERR! What a maroon I can be sometimes. lol.

So to correct this, I am weighing and measuring everything and really, much as it kills us, we got to. There is no way around it. Don't be a plop and dropper! It will first get in the way of weight loss, then cause you to gain. The book SAYS 2-3 tbsp of these foods a day, but it also really does not take into consideration that 1 c. of broccoli is 10 grams of carbs.... Add 2 cups of salad veggies, cheese and some dressing and you are at 20 grams already! Adding 2-3 tbsp of sour cream or a couple of ounces of cream cheese will likely put you over the top.

I was looking at my sour cream (GV brand) and it said that it has modified corn starch... Guess I know where the 2 carbs are coming from. Is this normal? And isn't corn starch not allowed at all? I'm just trying to figure this out so that I have accurate information to do this woe the right way. I want to enter my 30s much slimmer and WAY more healthy.

Anyways, these are just my thoughts.

Also for those that eat buffalo chicken dip... how do you portion that out so you don't get too much cream cheese/cheese? I'm aiming for 1/2 c. on some lettuce greens today, but still.... it makes me wonder....

Marking my spot!

I am ending December with a 10 pound loss... I'm thrilled! That makes 110 pounds lost in 2007... in 9 months! I was so worried that I would lose control in December and end up in a downward spiral until I had regained everything. I've always regained when I've lost weight in the past. Granted, I've never lost more than 35 pounds at a time. So, in order to make sure that I didn't lose control, I was stricter in December than I have been in a while... with my eating and with my exercise. Did I still enjoy the holidays? Of course I did! I also learned that it isn't the food that makes the holidays special. Fudge is delicious, but not as good as fitting into a size 24 jeans.

Here's to a great January for everyone!

Hi everyone-
I'm here too! Thought I'd share something with all of you that I told mycattaz about earlier..
I have something funny to share with you. On my way back to Italy saturday, my jar of peanut butter was confiscated by security (it was a paste and not allowed in carry-on luggage) and when the security guard took it I just started crying and explaining that my husband was divorcing me and I was trying to take the peanut butter with me because I didn't even know if I'd have money for food when I got here (and they don't have peanut butter in Italy). The security guard was really kind and said he still had to take the peanut butter but not to worry. Then he asked how much did I weigh and I was floored..I didn't know what to say other than "alot" with this big lump in my throat and with tears rolling down my cheeks; then he said and what does your husband weigh? and I said about 195 pounds. The security guard said well, just look at this as you are about to lose 195 pounds-don't let anyone put you down. I had to smile because I sure hadn't thought of it in those terms....

anyway, my overall goal is to lose 10 pounds a month in 2008 with a total of 100 (but I'd take 120..I'm just figuring that some months will be slower than others).
Congrats to AMM for her 110 loss and to Desdemona, Cris (hot tamale) and everyone else.
**hugs**

Laura - Do you need me to come over there and teach your husband some manners?
...and any country in which there is no peanut butter does not seem habitable to me. When are you coming home?

Hello everyone! Here's to a healthier and slimmer New Year for one and all!

I do read everyday, but I will make it my goal to post more. I often feel I have nothing to say, so please bear with me if I make no "sense"

I lost 10.1 pounds in December bringing my 2007 loss to 83.5 and my grand total to 105.5

This mornings weight - 382.5

Which is my lowest weight in over 12 years.

My next goal is 50 pounds by May 1st. I believe I can achieve it!

I follow a customized woe by my Nutritionist which is controlled carbs, high fiber, moderate protein and fat.

I love to travel through my tastebuds, so this mornings breakfast was my own version of this Scottish dish.

Rumbledethumps
3 oz O'Brien Hashbrowns (diced potatoes, onions, red & green bell peppers)
2 oz Bacon, diced
2 cups Green Cabbage, shredded
salt and pepper to taste

Brown the bacon in a small frying pan. Add the potatoes and cook until browned. Add the cabbage, salt and pepper. Stir fry until the cabbage is nicely wilted. Enjoy with a cup of tea.

Cals 230
Fat 13
Carbs 25
Fiber 4
Protein 6
Net Carbs 21

It was VERY tasty

Be Stress-Free: Five Principles

Adapted from The Stress-Free Habit, by John M. Perkins (Inner Traditions, 1989).
Stress is the root cause of many illnesses. In fact, how we deal with stress can make the difference between health and illness, life and death. It may alter the way we look at the world around us. It affects our feelings about ourselves. Coping with stress can increase our productivity. It can make us healthier. And it can result in fuller, happier, more relaxed lives.
SIMPLE SOLUTION: Here are the five simple principles that can help you to a stress-free existence in the New Year:

1. Be who you wish to be. Whenever you find yourself contemplating the idea of becoming, stop and repeat the phrase, "I do not need to become, I will be this person beginning right now."

2. Solve the problem. It is folly to lament the fact that you have a problem. What you must do is decide on a solution and try it.(well this is easier said than done, isn't it??)

3. Concentrate. Whatever you do, put everything into it. If you decide to be lazy, be lazy, concentrate on your laziness! When you relax, really relax.

4. Have faith. Believe in yourself, believe in the religion of your choice (if you choose one at all), believe in an idea or goal. Believe that you can conquer stress through the stress-free habit.

5. Meditate. Meditation is a vehicle for bringing the other four principles into perspective on a regular and orderly basis. Meditation is at the heart of the routine practice of the stress-free habit. It is also one of the best tools available for helping us learn to concentrate.

Hey guys. I can't post much, so busy with work and such, but it's nice to know you all are still here! Since the wedding in October, I've failed to properly get back on track, so this weekend I'm starting induction again, and have found a workout buddy. We're starting the gym again at 3x a week to begin with at 5:30am I figure it will be easier to feel committed if she is kicking me in the rear as well, and I'm so dang competitive, it should be good for me (she's my SIL).
Best wishes for a happy and healthy 2008! I'll check in occasionally

Good post, Gettin. I am guilty of not weighing or measuring very often. I eyeball everything... the thing that I'm the worst with is peanut butter and salad dressing. I know that what I call 2 tablespoons is definitely NOT 2 tablespoons.

As for sour cream, I use Breakstone's Reduced Fat... it doesn't list corn starch in the ingredients and has 2 carbs per serving. It's the best tasting reduced fat sour cream I've had.

Vitamins and supplements

Hey everyone,
I meant to ask-who on here is taking vitamins and supplements? If you're taking vitamins and supplements, exactly which ones and how much of each are you taking?
I sometimes get awful leg cramps and bananas are not really something I should have on atkins now-any ideas on a substitute?
Thanks!

Hi everyone and Happy New Year! I am back from my vacation in Florida, had a great time although the crowds were horrendous and the food wasn't always the most low carb friendly. I made the best choices I could, some of the sauces tasted a little sweet and coleslaw always had some sweetness, but for the most part I did good. Avoided bread always. I did have 2 chicken strips and 2 breaded onion rings. I imagine I'm out of Ketosis but no cravings really and am doing induction starting today. It looks like most of you have a new and improved resolve for 2008 and Pesacat, here's for you and hopes for a much better year to come. I agree, the trust issues are tough and I hope you value yourself enough to know when enough is enough.

Love to you all,
Kim

Morning girls

Eating yesterday:
Protein shake
Cottage Cheese, peaches and soy crisps for lunch along with a slice of cheese
dinner: tomatillo salsa and sauteed veggies (zucchini/onions/mushrooms/garlic)

I jogged yesterday afternoon for 30 minutes (probably 2.25 miles) and went to this morning's toning class. My posture and form suck I found I did good ab work though.

OK,
I am back on strict induction since yesterday and am starving even though I have not been long eaten a good sized piece of sirloin steak. Why oh why do we sabotage ourselves over and over? I have not been this hungry since I started low carbing last March. A week of being a carb aholic has sure not been worth it.
Oh well..onward and hopefully downward!

I'm down 4.5 pounds since yesterday. So more than half way to my months goal of 8 1/3 lbs. If only they would all fall off this easily huh? lol. Dang fat cells.

Laura- take sups, but thats cause I'm still nursing at least a little bit and I figure I need the extra even if I wasn't. lol. I feel quite depleted of my stores.
