Pics of an Overweight Child & My 100 lb Story

I have posted my 100 pound story and a great part of it starts here. These are pictures of me growing up. Looking at them now, I can see I was a normal size child. Taller than most kids my age at the time, but I was not overweight. I grew up believing I was overweight and fat. My nickname was heavy duty. Around the 5th grade, I started to develop. My older sister was slim and about my height. We were a year and half apart in age and family always compared us. Besides heavy duty I was also called big little sis.

Itâ€™s important for us to have a good positive self image. Ignore those negative voices around us.

I appreciate what you said about childhood too. I guess that's why they say youth is wasted on the young. As kids, we don't have enough perspective on life to ignore nicknames and teasing and define our own roles.

Exactly Jill. I don't know how many times I have said to myself. If I knew then what I know now, but we live and learn.

You look awesome and from the pics above I see no reason you were given such a nick name. Those things stay with us into adulthood and make it harder to get our esteem back in check.

I realize now that I was not overweight, but as a child that's how my family made me feel. When you are being compared to someone that is much slimmer than you then of course you look bigger. That's what everyone did. I don't compare myself to anyone these days. I'm just me.

About Bozo - I've lived in Arkansas all my life. There used to be a Bozo show taped here locally I think for KATV.
