I can relate to your story. I don't what it was when I was growing up but I alway felt overweight and I wasn't. I was always compared with my sisters.. I always heard: Ruth is a size 0, Sue is a size 4, Oh Maria is a size 8~ I was 15... EEEK at 5'7 that is small.. So there I was yo-yo dieting at 15 and on~ Until I found lo-carbing.. no more yo-yo...

Hi mkslulu! Yes, I reached Onederland in Jan 06. I spent all of 2006 floating between 185 (my lowest) and 203. Currently I am 210 (after slacking on my exercise in the last months of the year). I am get back to Onederland to hopefully stay there. I don't want to peddle around in the same numbers in 2007.
Thanks for your encouraging words. Congrats on getting started. KUTGW! Yes, we can do this! |

You know, recently my better half and I were going through old school photos from the early 70s. All the kids he said were piicked on for being *fat* were not fat at all compared to today. 5lb overweight and a kid was labeled fat. So many skinny minnies back then.
My poor son is larger than his older brother. They are 11 months apart and the youngest is built like his dad more like a football player and the older one is built like a stick. THIS ALONE makes him feel fat. It is horrible. He could maybe lose 5-10 lb if that and he thinks he is a whale. Meanwhile there are kids at his school that could easily lose 50 lb...very sad ![]() |

I have a similar childhood story... my nickname was "Boom Boom"... I look back on family photos and I was NOT fat or even heavy... just taller/bigger than the other kids & my sisters... I look at photos from college and I just *WISH* I was that "fat" now!
So much wasted time.......... |

Oh, yes! I had said that. If only I was that fat again. Any of those "fat" pics above.
Taller and bigger does not equal fat. That's why it's important for us not to compare. My dd has the complete opposite problem. She is ultra little and people accuse her of having a eating disorder. She eats like a horse and doesn't gain a pound. To have a metabolism like that. I've never known what that is like. ![]() |

Claritta,
I was in the same situation. I was constantly being compared to my older sister who was 5 inches shorter than I was. When I hit 13 I hit a chunky stage, but I was only about 10 lbs more than my friends. My mom whisked me to the Dr and he put me on amphetamines. I didn't lose weight but did start having anxety attacks. Funny thing was, my sister was chunky at the same age and mom did the same thing with her, yet they seemed to have forgotten she went thru that stage as well. I was 5'9 by the time I was 14 and I weighed 145 lbs. I know that isn't thin, but it's certainly not huge. My nickname was Mack, as in "Mack Truck". I was horribly shy, walked stooped over and carried my books against my well developed chest. I wore clothes to hide myself. Funny, today I see girls who are much chunkier than I was wearing clothes that show their belly, or skin tight jeans and wonder if they had parents that were different than mine, or growing up in the 70's was just a time that ultra thin was the ONLY acceptable body style. While I know thin is the still the ultimate goal for women of all ages, I think a more robust woman is beginning to emerge as not only acceptable but pleasing to the eye. Now if I can only get myself down from Jabba the Hut to robust....LOL |

Rosey - Wow! I thought heavy duty was a name. Mack Truck?!
What is wrong with people and family at that. I hated the fact that they put that on my bicycle. I had to see it every time I rode that thing. Oh yes! Robust, curvy is what I want. Not skinny t-bone for me. T-bone was my sister's nickname. I'm not sure what I weighed here, but I was 5'8" or 9" and I was just fine. ![]()
